I had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at the Temple Gate. Great location. A former convent with great design features located just down an alleyway from the main shopping street (and potential noise). Great for the elderly and families due to short walking distances. There was ample secured parking. The rooms are clean, comfortable and well appointed with […] hallway access for hotel guests only. My room was one of few yet to be remodeled and I found it perfectly suitable. Based on the lovely decor of the newly refurbished common areas, I imagine the newly redone rooms are luxurious. The staff were all very pleasant and I was often greeted by name. I found the restaurant food excellent. The menu was based on Irish specialties and judging by the excellent chowder, local fresh ingredients were used. The set menu offers incredible value for the quality received. The breakfasts were perfect with local butchers used for the bacon and black and white puddings as they were far better than standard supermarket offerings. Faults? Really none, but I should note that staff and dining areas can get very busy prior to the very early tour bus departures. If you can, have breakfast a bit later. With my July stay, I noticed that most guests were Americans with tour groups or Irish wedding guests. I obtained a great online value rate even though I booked 3 weeks prior for a peak July stay. Stayed on our way to the Cliffs of Moher only a 45 min drive. Excellent location in the city centre with ample free parking. Would definately plan to stay at this hotel if we travel this way again.

Overall a fantastic hotel at a great price as long as you don't buy the breakfast included. Self-service breakfast buffet is just cold cereal and juice. Get the great rate on the hotel but eat elsewhere.

The room did not live up to the promise of the rest of the hotel, which was grand and posh and lovely. It was sad and dowdy and more reminiscent of a washed-out old motel. Very disappointed, especially as this was something of a splurge for us.

The Temple Gate is well located, easy to find, and very clean. The staff were friendly, professional and helpful. We enjoyed dinner in Legends, the restaurant in the hotel, and spent a little time in their pub, Preachers. Everything was nicer than we expected.

The good: Room was spacious by European standards. If you get a king suite it's downright palatial sized. The hotel pub is quite good with good quality food. The front desk staff is very accomodating and very helpful. The location in Ennis is perfect. Right in the middle of town with ample parking. Great access to pubs, shops, and sights of Ennis. The […] bad: The beds are quite stiff. If you want a soft bed, this ain't the place for you. Maid service was good except for one night when they failed to replace all the towels. Water service for the shower inexplicably went dead for about 15 minutes one morning. The ugly: The WiFi network is terrible. Signal strength stunk and I continually had to reconnect. It got so bad that I stopped checking my emails. Overall I'd say it was good, but uneven. I also stayed at the nearby Old Ground hotel for one night and would rate it slightly higher. The pub there is even better and the WiFi network more reliable. It was a little pricier most nights. However, some nights it was cheaper. It's worth comparing the two on a night-to-night basis. They're both so close, it's no big deal to go from one to the other. Read more

Overall the hotel was excellent for our needs however the food was inconsistent and a little disappointing especially the full irish breakfast, bacon undercooked, egg overcooked and sausage of poor quality - common throughout Ireland!!

Staff very friendly and helpful. The rooms are a bit outdated and could do with some modernisation. There was no body moisturiser in the room and only one body gel left for 2 sharing the room for 2 nights. Carpet on the stairs was worn in places. We had a very enjoyable meal in the restaurant and choice at breakfast was great.

The hotel is also close to main roads that lead to Galway, West Clare and the immediate countryside. The hotel was well signposted from the Dublin/Limerick road. The food is excellent in the hotel dining room as it is the Preachers Bar where you can eat, drink and relax in a friendly atmosphere in a typical Irish bar. This was a very comfortable, reasonably priced hotel that has one right down in the centre of Ennis, with lots of local sights and places to eat and drink. There's a grocery/department store just around the corner that's open late, and during the day lots of little Irish specialty shops.
