This hotel has character and I love that they have a bit of history on their walls. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. My only complaint about this place is that I could never get hot water in the shower. It was luke warm at best. Could have been a one-off situation though.

We loved staying at the School house in Dublin! The location was great. It was a 15 minute walk to the downtown area, and the price was pretty good for what we got. The hallway had a bit of an old odor to it, but the room smelled great. We were on American time when we got there, so we ended up getting hungry and ordering sandwiches from room service […] at around 2 am two nights in a row. The Schoolhouse was a wonderful experience except..................................both mornings we had virtually no hot water for our showers, just barely warm. We stayed at the Schoolhouse in the souther part of Dublin for 4 nights. We were treated with great hospitality and the staff did everything for us at the highest level of customer satisfaction. Their Expedia rating should be a 5.0 if it were up to me. Great location for the Air Coach bus, the Dublin City bus, and relatively close to the Grand Canal […] DART rail station. Within walking distance to Aviva stadium. The Breakfast is a full Irish breakfast and was excellent. We ate dinner once in the restaraunt and twice in the Pub. Really great decor thruout the hotel. The stay was fine. The issue I had with the hotel is when we went to the dining room at 7:00 for dinner when it was supposed to be open, not a single individual was there. We looked around and found no one. Went to the front desk and they said they'd contact someone and 10 minutes later, someone (the chef) showed up. The entire meal took over 2 hours […] and was at best so-so. We just spent a wonderful eight days at the Schoolhouse. The people at the front desk were alway very willing to help and went out of their way to provide helpfull suggestions. The location is really great. A bit away from the city center in a very nice, safe area. You can walk to Trinity College area in about 10 minutes and the city cent in about 15 […] minutes. There are several very nice restaurants within about a five minute walk. There are only 31 rooms, so it is quite manageable. The attached pub is a great place to go in the evening for a drink or a light meal. We would highly recommend the Schoolhouse. Read more

The staff were very friendly, and the setting is lovely. The School House exudes charm, character and warmth. This is a small 'boutique style' hotel. We had a deluxe room and while it was not overly large it was ample and nicely decorated. The shower was very powerful, some people might find it overwhelming! We had dinner in the bar one evening which was very pleasant - lovely oysters (the restaurant is not open on Sunday and Monday nights). What a lovely place to stay. Close to the city but not smack in the middle of it. The rooms were lovely and have details like you don't see at chain hotels in the states. The location of this hotel is far enough away from downtown that the location is quiet, but close enough to walk to the major Dublin sites. The furnishings were beautiful and the staff very friendly and helpful. The attached restaurant, Oliviers, was wonderful. Dinner was very leisurely.

The hotel is very beautiful and charming. The services are not great, really depending on the person that is on the front desk. The room was very clean when we arrived but we remained for five nights and during or stay they just made beds and change towels, at the end it was a little dirty.

The Schoolhouse is quite attractive from the exterior and offers an expensive but quality meal at its adjoining pub, but the hotel itself was a disappointment (except for free wifi). The front desk clerk do not offer assistance with our bags. The lobby/sitting room had no ambience. Tea/coffee service was at an additional fee as was the use of the computer […] in the lobby. Our room (216) was rather shabby, dark, dreary and unclean. There were tissues and crumbs left from previous guests that never were cleaned up during our 8 night stay - which was not a bargain, incidentally. Excellent place to stay and Ballsbridge is one of the nicer parts of Duplin. The hotel is very easy to find, we took the Dublin city bus from the airport and had no trouble finding the hotel. Within walking distance of Trinity College, Temple Bar and Grafton Street. The staff is very helpful and friendly.

Very quiet and nice hotel. Very convenient to local bus transportation from the airport and to the Dublin Bus system. The hotel restaurant is a bit pricey and there is a very narrow doorway and alcove to access the hotel reception but these were our only complaints. The doorway made it difficult to enter and exit with baggage. My husband and I went to Ireland for our honeymoon and we had an enjoyable experience at The School House Hotel. It was so charming and quaint! We loved the history behind it and the Ballsbridge neighborhood where the hotel was located was very beautiful. The School House Bar is quite popular with the locals from what I've heard and we definitely recommend it! A couple of cons: We did have an issue with the hotel staff forgetting to do a wake-up call causing us to almost miss our tour, but thankfully I woke up just in time and they apologized (they did remember every other time we requested one so I can't be too hard on them!). Also, on Saturday night, we could hear a band playing loudly at the bar while we were trying to sleep, so we weren't too happy with that.
