We loved the convenience of the location and the cozy setting of this inn. Service was very considerate. The room was clean and well equipped. This is an aged place with retro charm. We noticed a minor maintenance issue and slight musky odor.

Main drawback is one must pick up minimal breakfast items at desk under owner's supervision and take items to poolside or room. Since this was a last minute trip and we did not want to spend a lot, we went with the cheapest option available in Chincoteague. The room was not in the greatest shape plus there was a serious mildew smell. The outdoor pool was nice and refreshing. The room was terribly cramped, the A/C didn't cool properly and it was located 3 feet from the bed (noise), the bathroom didn't get cleaned before we came, so we didn't shower there. Will not ever stay again. Overall it was a disappointment.

We were able to check in not only 2 nights early, but at 12:30 AM. The manager was also nice enough to give us driving directions that our GPS wasn't showing. The room was very clean. For those who think the office is in someone's house, that is where the suites are located, which kind of offered a homey feel. Me and my fiance wanted to get away for a single night and decided to head to head to Chincoteague for a short relaxing get away. We chose this place based on the other reviews and the photos. So 2 things: 1) I don't know WHO those other reviewers are and 2) The photographer must be a magician. Let me first say that the man in the office was VERY […] nice, and helpful. Now that's out of the way - This motel is a small strip motel off the street on the way to Assateugue. It doesn't look like a place I would have stayed at if I could have seen the outside beforehand. Our room was attached to the back of the office which looks like it used to (may still be) someone's house. The room was small and appeared to have some water damage that occurred above a lamp. They didn't even bother to change the water damaged lampshade. There was a 1/4" of dust on the furniture. We paid for a jacuzzi. There was a shower with a tub. No jets. Apparently no one had stayed in the room in months as none of the clocks even reflected time change. The fridge was unplugged and defrosted rendering it pretty much useless. The motel is central to business on the road, but many looked not only closed but shut down. Out of business and boarded up. This may have been because we visited in the off season, but honestly the place was a ghost town. If we ever go back...which I'm not sure will happen...We will stay at ANY other hotel, as we scoped them all out the night we checked in to see what COULD have been. All of them were nicer. Our waitress at Bill's Seafood (where we had a pretty good dinner) made a sour face when she heard where we were staying. From our viewpoint any hotel looked nicer but we'd recommend The Refuge Inn. It looked like from the outside what we were looking for, but were fooled out of. Let our experience be your gain. BTW Assateugue is really nice. Even though there is a $8 entrance fee. The room was clean, comfortable, and warm. On top of that, it was the least expensive hotel on the island! ... It had a comfortable bed, a clean bathroom, and plenty warm for a cold rainy spring weekend. The hotel is seconds from main street (half a block, maybe?) and sits on the access road to Assateague.

The hotel was very clean and quiet. It had a very nice pool and picnic area. When we checked, in the owner gave us a map of the area along with information on local places to eat. We had a great stay and plan to return again. Would recommend this hotel highly.

This hotel was very cute and very convienient to the main shopping area. It had a nice outdoor grilling area by the pool, and everything was very clean. The reviews online were not that great, and we were worried, but enjoyed our stay and were very happy with the hotel!

Obwohl wir bei der Buchung 2 Erwachsene und ein 14-jähriges Kind angegeben hatten, war das Zimmer nur mit einem Queensize-Bett ausgerüstet. Nach kurzer Diskussion wurde uns zusätzlich eine schmale Bodenmatratze mit Bettzeug zur Verfügung gestellt. - Als sehr unangenehm erwies es sich, […] dass die Matratze des Doppelbetts unter dem dünnen Leintuch mit einer festen Plastikfolie überzogen war. Auf dieser Matzratze zu schlafen, war eine Tortur, zumal wir (bei hochsommerlichen Temperaturen Ende Juli) die sehr laute Klimaanlage nachts abstellen mussten. Wir würden deshalb auf keinen Fall ein zweites Mal in diesem Hotel übernachten wollen. Read more
