Hotel Splendide Royal - Rome

The hotel location is really great. Very close to the famous Via Veneto and Villa Borghese garden, 1 block away from the Piazza di Spagna metro station. Staff is very friendly. Breakfast is excellent, on the 6th floor, with an amazing view of Villa Borghese and the Vatican.

Cute little boutique hotel right by the Spanish Steps and close to everything in Rome! The rooms are quaint, the staff is super helpful and friendly. And don't forget to go to Mirabelle, great food, great wait staff and amazing views! Harry's bar is also nearby, walking distance.

The hotel was charming. It is an older hotel but we thought it was very well maintained. We stayed in room 105 which is considered a superior double if I remember correctly. We just left Hotel Splendide Royal after spending eight nights there. The hotel is located on a hill by the Borghese gardens not far from the Spanish Steps. The hotel is a small luxury hotel that is decorated in a Florentine style with gold accents and large mirrors but it is not dark - light greens and golds. On a positive note, our rooms were spacious, clean and nicely decorated, the staff were extremely nice and helpful and the location was very good. We have a family of 5 so had to get two rooms, we selected a junior suite. The rooms were very large with good views too. The bathrooms were also quite nice, the bath was nice, the shower was on the small […] side and had a bit of a leak. One really big disappointment that lead me to knock off a star is the wifi service was not only not part of the room package but was outrageously expensive. The cost of service was approximately $25/day!! We had stayed at a similarly nice hotel in florence and it was included in the price. We used the internet frequently to check on train schedules, restaurants and directions and it was very frustrating to have to pay so much for a service that we could walk into almost any coffee bar and get free access. I won't stay at hotels in the future that do not provide wifi access. One other downside is the breakfast options were also quite unreasonable, a continental breakfast was over $25 per person. We greatly enjoyed our stay, again staff were exteremly nice, rooms, decor and views were outstanding, wifi should be included and better options for breakfast. Read more

There were little problems with the maintenance of the room, such as a loose toilet seat that was not fixed despite the fact that we reported it. Also, at these prices, internet should be free. The front desk staff was terrible, making incorrect reservations and giving out inaccurate information in terms of when major things were open or closed. They didn't know anything about what was going on in and around Rome and had to rely on the Internet for everything, something guests could do on their own. Close to Piazza di Spagna and Via Veneto, but far enough that you avoid the crowds. We enjoyed the small size of the hotel and the very friendly service. Our room was very comfortable and tastefully decorated, overlooking the Borghese park. This park turned out to be one of our favorite places to go on the weekend, just to stroll and watch Italian families […] enjoy their weekend. The restaurants recommended by staff were ok, but we found a real gem a block away from the Pantheon called Enoteca Spiriti on via di S. Eustachio. Surprisingly we also really enjoyed Harry's Bar Roma, which is just a couple blocks away from hotel. Met some very interesting locals there and of course Americans having a good time. The neighborhood by hotel has many small eateries serving fantastic, simple food for breakfast and lunch so you can avoid paying $35 euros per person at the hotel. Also, the wi-fi was a challenge on my iPad, but the 24hr support was outstanding. If you stay here and have a few days, take an afternoon off your tired feet and check out the spa at related hotel, just a short stroll away through the park. Do take your toiletries, none are provided. If in Rome again, we'll definitely stay at this hotel because of the neighborhood, the size, quality and service. Enjoy! Read more

It is in a good neighborhood, but it is not on Via Veneto, it is on a side street, which is fine. Very quiet at night. The only thing that would be better is if it is closer to the metro station. I realize that beds in Europe are not as comfortable as the ones in the US but this was one of the worst beds I have ever slept on. My main complaint with this hotel was that the service was awful.
