We arrived in the middle of a snow storm. The counter clerk wasn't very cordial nor offered any information about the hotel or surrounding area as most do. We had to ask about DVD rental after seeing a sign. There was a smell in the lobby. When asked he said "some kind of leak". It smelled like gas. The smell lingered in our room but went away. Very nice stay. Great bed and pillows, quiet. Has a kitchenette with popcorn in the microwave. Maybe it was so quiet (no kids running around) because no breakfast was included and that was ok, it's all the same anymore. And, for about $30 cheaper than the hotels around it, I'll go out to breakfast and still save money.

Everything was fine, except........ while our room was ok, when we got off the elevator on the 3rd floor, it REEKED of smoke. Yuck! When you request non smoking, you shouldnt have to put up with that

Other than some minor maintenance issues the stay was pleasant. The room was clean, and staff were friendly and helpful. There was a fair amount of highway noise coming from the interstate. It doesn't bother me but if that's something that might bother you then request a room facing away from the interstate.

I stayed at this hotel on my way from Denver to the east coast. Hotel.com booked it for me because it was pet friendly. Did not inform me there would be a $25 pet fee in addition to the cost of the room. I asked for a non-smoking room, which I got, but there were 8 smoking rooms at the end of the hallway. There was so much smoke you could see it in […] the hallway and smell it everywhere. I complained to the front desk both at night and in the morning and all they could say is "Sorry about that" They did offer to move me to the 4th floor, but it also reeked of cigarette smoke and was not an improvement. I left at 7:00 in the morning during a winter weather advisory because I couldn't stand the smell, drove to Kansas City and stopped for the day. The hotel was OK, the room OK, but be sure you are not on a smoking floor if you don't want to smell like an ashtray when you leave. Sorry Candlewood Suites. I expected better. Read more

This unit, just off I-70 in Topeka and very convenient, had adequate stove and cooking equipment, so I didn't even have to use the stuff I travel with. When booked thought we were getting two room suite not one room. Room apparently was/used to be smoking room. Still could smell odor from cigars. House cleaning only is one time a week. This should be noted in expedia write-up. One of the worst rooms I have ever stayed in.

Arrived early but early checkin was not allowed. Parking was adequate. Elevator wait time was reasonable. No good restuarants close, but there was a Burger King and a convenience store within a block of the hotel.

We had a different reservation at a competitors hotel and they were overbooked. We got a room at Candlewood on very short notice. The room was very nice, the staff very friendly and the rates were very reasonable. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone....

Absolutely the only negative was the long time it took to check in. This was due to an oversold weekend, and the two customers in front of us had issues due to their booking a reservation with confirming with a credit card (rates changed, too). Good location near the Interstate, downside being you hear the traffic all the time, but it's not bad. One of the main commercial strips is right nearby, with malls & restaurants etc. Easy enough to drive into downtown Topeka, and very easy to get on the Interstate heading west.

We were just blowing through Topeka and needed a place for the evening. This hotel would be quite comfortable for a longer stay; the rooms is well-furnished and relatively spacious, near everything you would need.

We were very surprised to find this was an extended stay hotel and did not have the usual daily cleaning service. It worked out ok, tho, because we could take care of the bed making ourselves. We liked having the kitchen facilities available and the small store in the hotel.

When we checked in our hotel room smelled like someone had a smoking party. We had to open the windows to let fresh air in. Then we had to leave the window open all night just for the fresh air to drown out the cigarette smoke. The noise of the traffic on the interstate kept us up all night and we got very little sleep. When we went to the races the […] next day, we came back around 5:00pm our room had not been cleaned and we were told that our room would only be cleaned once every 4 days or check out which ever came first. We were then told that if we wanted clean towels we would have to bring the dirty ones downstairs and exchange them for clean ones. I will never again stay at this hotel. Read more

We were appaled at the treatment of hotel guests checking in ahead of us. So much so, that had we not already booked through hotels.com, we would have left and found another hotel. The person working was on an obvious power trip and if she is an example of how this corporation trains their employees in customer relations, they are headed down a business […] path of destruction. Finally, I've never been asked to give my driver's license as an ID. I did, but then later after thinking about it and not feeling very comfortable about the request, I asked to have the copy returned to me. The kid working the night shift refused and told me it was company policy for security reasons. When asked what had happened if I hadn't had a driver's license, he told me I would not have been allowed to check in. He told me I could have it when I checked out. I immediately went to the hotel computer and sent a message to the corporation regarding our stay and this ridiculous policy. And then upon check out another employee upon asking for the copy of my license initially said that she couldn't give it to me but upon my insistence, reluctantly let me have it saying that she hoped she wouldn't get in trouble. When I asked why they did this in the first place she said it was to prove that guests were over 21 upon checking in....apparently just looking at it to confirm the guests age isn't good enough! And to top it all off, the Housekeeping people woke us up at 9:00 knocking on doors...We'll never stay at a Candlewood Suites again! Read more

In an area with a lot of other hotels, it was a bit difficult to find this one tucked away behind the others but the service was sterling, the room wonderful (loved having a kitchenette) and was very enjoyable. They even have a dvd and book library you can borrow from if you need some entertainment. I thought at first the hotel was a bit pricey when I did comparing of surrounding hotels but in the end I think it was worth the extra money. My son was having surgery early in the morning, so we stayed over night so we could be close to doctors office where it would take place. We also had to bring my four year old daughter it was nice that they had […] a video library where we could get a video for her and they had popcorn already in the room so she was occupied . When we returned from the surgery my son had gotten sick and it was nice that they had the free laundry facility so we could clean up, I couldn't have done that in another hotel. My wife was taking a two day workshop and I worked on business for a couple of days without interruptions. The room was quiet during the day and I was able to get a lot done. It was very comfortable and we enjoyed our stay very much. The only drawback for us was that Interstate 70 was right next to the hotel and the noise at night was kind of loud.
