Allegro Playacar All Inclusive - Playa del Carmen

I was pleasantly surprised with the hotel. Yes, rooms are on the older side, and yes, the beds are hard. but given we spent all of 5 minutes other than when we were sleeping, it didn't really matter. Rooms were very clean - the housekeeping staff obviously does whatever they can with a dated product. We were on the second floor, and dispite the reviews […] that mentioned leaking, we didn't have any problems when it rained. The grounds are immaculately kept, and have plenty of amenities and activities for families to enjoy. Beach is great, and the pools were not too busy. I didn't have the experience of some other travellers - the activities staff would come by to get us to samba or stretch, and when we said no thank you they left us alone. I was not approached ONCE by a time share seller, which also seemed to be a common comment. Food was very good. I am definitely a food snob, so maybe my expectations were low coming into it, but the breakfast buffet is enormous, with phenomenal selection and refreshed frequently. The lunch restaurant was fine - and the hamburger stand was defineitly popular with kids. We were there over Christmas, and the hotel worked very hard to make the evening meal services extra special. If it had been my husband and I travelling, I probably would not return to this hotel as a couple, but given we were travelling in a group with children - it worked out well. defintieyl recommend it for families. We love this place because it is small. If you are high maintenance and looking for perfection, don't go. If you like friendly people and are looking for pools AND the beach AND a beautiful, safe location, this place is perfect. If you don't care about luxury and you only need a room to sleep and shower, this is your place. The all-inclusive is food, soft drinks, some alcohol, and non-motorized water activities. All the food is delicious, great variety. They only serve Corona Extra, the local beer, and some other liquors. And... BE AWARE FOR THE SELLERS INSIDE THE HOTEL!! If you go to the all-inclusive water activities booth from the hotel, first they will try to sell a whole day tour. About the transportation, taxis are good but they would charge a lot. From the hotel to Cancun airport (40mins) they'll charge $60 for 2p; but take an ADO bus in 5th Ave Terminal at Playa del Carmen, it'll be $7 p/p and the bus is very comfy, A/C, and good movie. We had a long search for the hotel because there was no ka pointers in the hotel zone. We waited a very long time for check-in, despite the fact that the check-in at 3:00, we were settled in 4:00. Even the orange juice to drink was impossible, because it is diluted with water and added a lot of citric acid. The only decent drink was a cola from the machine, but he does not always work. My husband and I love Playa and try to make it down twice a year so we are always looking for a bargain. The Allegro is an older resort that could use some updating, but it is very clean, lovely grounds, wonderful beach and the staff friendly. We like the small hacienda style buildings rather than the massive hotel setting. Our only major complaint […] was our air conditioning. We asked to have it checked and although we think they came to the room we didn't notice much difference. We didn't press he issue since we could sleep. The buffet food was adequate, somedays better than others, the Mexican was the best sit down dinner, they didn't seem to have a limit on your visits as the hotel was not full. There was an outdoor Mexican night and dinner show at the theatre. We enjoyed learning some of the Mayan culture thru the show. The bar service was good, sometimes they would run out of the top shelf tequila, but always a cold beer on tap. Self serve sodas anytime by the pools. We didn't have a problem getting a seat at the beach or a palapa. And were not bothered by the timeshare people after our initial "no thank you" unlike some resorts. Our room safe locked up and after asking at the desk there was someone in less that 5 minutes to unlock it for us and fix the problem. The Allegro is in the Playacar loop, very safe and close to all the action on 5th. A short/inexpensive cab ride or a nice walk to shopping, dining and nightlife. We were, frankly, a bit concerned about the Allegro Playacar because of some reviews we read online. However, we got a killer deal so we decided to take the chance. Well, we're glad we did! The hotel rooms (actually 8-room villas) are a bit tired inside. Ours definitely could have benefitted from a fresh coat of paint and some tile work. But it was […] clean, the closet area is large, and the air conditioning worked great! The hardness of the bed became unnoticable withing two days. We had a fabulous view of the beach and the pool; every morning we sat on the balcony and had our coffee watching people hunt for shells. It was glorious! The service at that Allegro was wonderful at every level. Front desk people were polite and helpful, the housekeeper was adorable, and the wait staff was funny, considerate, and efficient. We absolutely LOVED it! The food at the buffet was good and plentiful, although it did start to look awfully familiar after awhile. But the Mexican Fiesta and the two specialty restaurants were just amazing!! This is not a real luxurious hotel. But it is clean, comfortable, fun, and in a great location on the beach. If you would like to participate in game times, it was there. If not, they didn't pressure you. If you did want something else to drink (i.e. soda, water, etc) there was a place you could serve yourself, but I had to wait for them to wash a glass for me, and several others waiting, before I could do that. Lunch was very good. The pizza and hamburgers were excellent. Dinner was okay. Definitely more of a middle of the road dinner. Overall it was a great experience. We will be back! Oh and those little brown rodent looking animals that roam the property are called Tapirs. They are funny little creatures. Read more

First off this “resort” is over 40 years old and shows signs of its age. The grounds are very nice, but the condition of the buildings and their infrastructure is dreadful. We had to change rooms 3 times before we got one that had a properly functioning air conditioner. After 2 days of nothing but excuses we told the front desk staff to either find […] us a room that had a working a/c or send us to a hotel that did. Amazingly, they immediately came up with two keys and had two rooms to show us that actually had working air conditioning. After speaking with other guests, it seems that the hotel plays musical chairs with the rooms that have working air conditioning. The people that complain the most get the rooms that are cool. This isn’t my idea of a relaxing vacation. The staff is great (especially considering what they have to work with) but the food is below average and repetitious. The ala carte restaurants have a very limited menu and they use the same one everyday. The house wine is hideous. Hey… but guess what… they’ll sell you some drinkable wine for an extra charge. Go to the Mega or Chadraui stores and bring in your own. The alcohol is watered down. The beer being served is Corona on tap and it’s weaker than the 3.2 beer I drank when I lived in Kansas. The food and drinks are mediocre at best. Unless you get a screaming, incredible, I can’t believe how cheap it was deal to stay at the Allegro Playacar, your money will be best spent elsewhere. It was great, the food was very good, except for the white wine . The wi-fi is too expensive 10.00$ a day but works very well .Most places in Mexico wi-fi is free. Bokar ni på Allegro så se till att inte hamna i 16 huset då detta var ganska slitet och låg precis intill ett väsnande fläktrum. En general el hotel estuvo aceptable, PERO es muy ruidoso. Primero nos dieron una habitación junto a unas máquinas, el ruido era horrible inclusive dentro de la habitación, ya no se diga en el balcón. Después nos cambiaron a otra habitación y bajo el nivel de ruido, pero aún presente. Se encuentra ubicado en el complejo Playacar, que a su vez se encuentra a unos pasos de la 5a. avenida en Playa del Carmen. Lo mismo pueden gozar todo el dia y por la noche pasear los alrededores, el personal del lugar hace que la estancia sea placentera. El hotel en si no es muy grande por lo que es comodo caminar hacia la playa.
