I really wanted to have some spa treatments whilst at hotel, but I tried calling before going and only got an answer machine, which said they would call back, they didn't, I then rang again on the day before setting off, same thing again, called from the room on arrival still voice mail and even went to the spa, no one on reception, someone finally […] called me at about 1730 offering me times for the next day and the day after! I was only there one night and wanted treatments in the afternoon of arrival. The hotel itself was good, though nothing extra special, the room was OK, though the floor was a little weird, felt as though it was moving when you walked on it and was a little noisy. Bathroom was great with a proper walk in shower and bathrobes. Bar was OK though overpriced, staff cheerful and friendly. Did not use restaurant so can not comment. Read more

Great for business..... Gym functional although a little dated and the pool was a bit tropey looking but evening meal was ok I ate it in the bar it was like a walk through not much atmosphere. I will stay here on business but I will not be rushing back there for a leisure break.

We didn't get chance to use the spa or pool, but the hotel itself was lovely. The bar was very cosy with an open log fire, maybe a little pricey though. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and breakfast was really nice with a wide selection of hot and cold food. I loved the location of the hotel.. I stay in many hotels in this area and had considered Hellidon Lakes before. It is in the middle of beautiful countryside and although the hotel stay was reasonable the food cost is high. The hotel doesn't have many neighbours except cows and geese, lovely views and the rooms are clean and spacious. Staff are friendly, breakfast has a good variety and I have no complaints about the food. Very happy and would love to stay here again.

Lets start with the Spa. For a week they didn't bother to return calls, but from talking to others we had a "lucky escape AVOID! The "Superior Room" is not quite up to Travel lodge standards (rubbish), the 4 Star rating by AA for B&B not a hotel. The Hotel is having a revamp - needs it - shabby in places. The restaurant was a disaster, we waited 2 hours […] for the main course (as did others) some just walked out. Steak from Duke of Buccleuch, more like one his shoes cast out in 1800's. My husband and I spent a few days at the hotel, just to get away. It is tucked in the country side so was perfect just to relax. The golf grounds are beautiful and the hotel on the exterior is modern. The rooms are fine, but do look a bit tired and dated. The bathroom was fine, but could have done with re-grouting. My only real complaint was the cost […] of the food and wine. The restaurant had just changed their menu and of course there were some teething problems, but the food on the whole was great. The breakfast buffet is well worth it! I did unfortunately feel that the restaurant was overpriced, especially the wine (£5 - £8 a glass!). Checked in to be given a room overlooking the lakes and golf courses - beautiful. Realised then that the receptionist had not told us anything about the hotel, restaurant times, spa times etc. Had a round of golf on a very friendly fun course then came back in for evening meal. Service was OK but food was nothing special. The bar was busy because of […] a coach party staying in the hotel. Breakfast was a bit of a shambles really. The staff seemed unable to cope with the large numbers of guests. It seemed we were forgotten about and had to seek out a waiter to get some coffee. Plates/bowls were not available and some food items took a long time to be re-stocked. If we stayed again we'd probably make sure we arrived for breakfast earlier. Hotel is nicely situated, well set out and clean. Only thing that spoilt it was poor service by bar staff even though they were not busy - took half an hour to get a liqueur coffee and hot chocolate which were poorly made and luke warm when they arrived.
