It was a nice hotel room and everything you need for an overnight stay. The only problem I really had was that the room did not get completely dark at night and that made it hard for me to sleep. The light from the hall shined under the door and made it not-so dark. Not to mention all of the flashing and annoying lights, like the one on the hair dryer […] and the TV and microwave. I had to hang a towel over the microwave to block it out. I think I am more sensitive to things like this than most people, so it wasn't a huge problem or complaint. Overall it was a great hotel. Pretty clean except for some candy stuck on the towel holder - eww. The bed was nice and the complimentary items were great - they even had small bottles of mouthwash and Q-tips and cotton balls provided! I would recommned it. Read more

Stayed at HIE while visiting my Daughter. I have stayed at other hotels in Shelby and I can honestly tell you that you won't find a better hotel in town. The room was immaculate with a very comfortable bed. The free wi-fi was fast and the personnel very friendly. Highly recommend!

I was given a handicap room which I did not need. I requested to change so that someone that may need it could have that room. They said I could on a different floor and higher price that already paid for. Get to the room and the keys do not work. Get back to the room to find a smelly room. The room had a funny smell of chlorine either from cleaners used or from the air conditioning unit. Staff was courteous and pleasant. Liked the apples available next to entrance and enjoyed the pancake maker at breakfast.

I stayed at this hotel during the Christmas holiday with other family members. The breakfast was good...cinnamon buns were great! Perfect for a family of 4 on a budget during the holidays! The hotel is within a shopping center/mall area - beware it sits beside a McDonalds, a mall and the movie theatre - if you have kids/teens, they thought they were […] living in paradise. No issues with the elevator (only 2 floors) or no outside noices could be heard. I did have one health concern within our bathroom, there were 2 half open bottles of shampoo and conditioner left on the top base inside the shower from the previous guest that housekeeping obviously missed which gave me the six sense that the rest of the room wasn't cleaned properly. I did brought my concern to the front desk which they ensured me that the bathroom was fully cleaned, but I also noticed dirt from the drain that was floating in the bath I had drawn up...truly disgusting. I should have taken a picture to upload as well, but I was through with it since I knew I was only going to stay for one night. I probably wouldn't stay at that location again due to the lack of actions to remove the bottles or clean the bath again because they ensure it was properly clean by housekeeping the first time. We stayed in this hotel for my college graduation. I was quite impressed with the staff. The room was very clean and comfortable. However, the pool was not so clean. It could have been the storms, but I did not feel comfortable getting in it. When we arrived there we were told the elevators were down, and we needed to walk up the stairs with all our luggage. Also the air conditioning was not very good in the room. The room was clean but smelled a little musty. There is no window or vent in the bathroom, so it really steams up after a shower. The room had a slight odor to it, found candy next to the bed on the floor, People at the front desk were marvelous, very kind and attentive. The "neighborhood' is the mall parking lot, not much that can be done about that.

The only liability is the location BEHIND the MacDonald's on HWY 74--makes it hard to find. Otherwise, I was very happy with all aspects of my stay at the Holiday Inn Express Shelby. The employees were all very friendly and helpful. Highest recommendation.
