"Fine And Hunky Dory"
A warm welcome with very helpful staff. Room compact but very clean and provided everything we needed. The restaurant was closed on the night we were there but the menu looked decent enough. Would have no hesitation in recommending to others.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Always use this hotel when visiting War Graves in the Somme area. A very good location to Amiens. Lovely staff very friendly and aways attentive. Nice clean rooms and good facilities throughout. Highly recommended.Genuine Expedia guest review
Good food Breakfast expensive and avoided. Dreadful WIfi with awful adverts. Never managed to send an email.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Excellent hotel with free Wi-Fi. Don't stay in the heat of the summer as no air con. Rooms - all that you want, but a little dated. Good bar with plenty of seating. Restaurant good, but starters microwaved - this didn't really detract from them. Main courses good. Breakfast very good. Staff extremely pleasant and very accommodating - flask of coffee […] provided for our daily trips to the graves. An absolutely wonderful base for "The Somme". Use Major and Mrs Holt's book for your trips. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This was a one night stopover. We received a warm welcome and were given all the information we needed. The rooms were very comfortable and the hotel showed signs of recent refurbishment. The lounge and bar were very comfortable and service was good. Dinner was very good though the staff were stretched in terms of numbers. Breakfast was also very good. […] It is not walking distance of the town centre. I would certainly use it again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A very pleasant three night stay"
Found it to be a excellent Hotel for our short stay to visit local WW1, Memorials, Museums and other local interests. All the staff were very helpful and courteous many spoke English which was helpful as our French is limited.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overpiced for a reasonably comfortable room."
Stayed here in June 2013. Ok if you are just passing through. Staff were helpful and efficient. Hotel is clean and tidy. Room was small but clean. Large car park. Didn't eat at the restaurant - town is a pleasant 1km stroll where there are a few places to eat. Breakfast was expensive at 12 Euros a head. Overall I felt the hotel was overpriced (£80 per […] night) for what was on offer and I wouldn't stay there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"A lovely find, perfect base for WW1 history"
A really pleasant surprise. The hotel is in a great location, out of town but in easy walking distance (approx 0.5 miles) of the centre. We just had the basic room which was immaculately clean and had everything we needed for our two night stay. On the first night we ate in restaurant. We had two very good main courses and fortunately chose to share […] a starter (a proscuitto salad) which was massive and then a cheese board which was equally large. Before dinner we had a couple of drinks, as the sun was out we took these outside. We were shortly followed by the ever attentive staff who brought us out a small table and some olives and tapanade. Would definately recommend this hotel, in fact we are going back later this year Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great staff and good for a one night stay"
Very friendly and helpful staff, seemed willing to please at all times. A bit quiet and only a few guests when we visited, but the hotel was good for a one night stay.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Excellent Hotel in Albert."
Excellent Hotel just on the outer edge of Albert.Always use this Hotel for visits to WW1 sites and tours of Amien and Arras. Would use this facility again with confidence and with pleasure.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Ok for short stay"
Room was OK , clean and comfortable, suitable for short stay. Had tea and coffee making facilities which was great. Not busy at all during our stay and restaurant was closed even though it was a Friday night. About a 15 minute walk to town, no places to eat close by.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"weird outside but a pleasant place to stay"
We stayed here on the way back from the alps. Albert is a good place to stop as it is only 2 hours from calais. The hotel was reasonably well signposted in Albert although a map would have helped. It is located on the outskirts of the town opposite some houses and next to some industrial buildings so not picturesque. There is a big car park but it […] is not secured. The outside of the hotel is weird. It looks like a low rise castle built by an incompetent Disney employee. Dont let that put you off! Inside it is comfortable and pleasant. Rooms were clean and nicely decorated although towels were a bit mean. Dull view of a big flat roof with trees beyond. Good tea making equipment in room. Nice enough bar and restsurant. Limited menu when we visited but food was well cooked and enjoyable. Breakfast at euro12 pp was expensive but worth it - the best continental breakfast i have ever had with lovely breads brioches cakes etc. Got a good discount (25%) on the rack rate booking through hotels com come although I had to pay when booking. "Excellent Hotel in Picardie"
Have used this hotel several times and always leave pleased with our visit. Would recommend the Best Western Royal Picardie for the position in the Town and easy access to Amiens and Arras. Would visit again without any doubts.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel for all."
Have used this hotel before. Always impressed by the standards which are very high. Friendly staff make the stay enjoyable and as we were visiting a family war grave the town of Albert is central to the Somme area. The breakfast provided is very good with a large selection of excellent quality food available without restriction. We will visit again […] and recommend this hotel highly. "Great stay in Albert"
Excellent hotel, the staff are very very friendly & did everything to make the stay that much better. Nice walk into town (about 15mins).Rooms were very clean and well presented.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Bit tired and dated."
The staff were great and the rooms comfortable and very clean, but the hotel is in need of a major refurb and the restaurant area is not appealing due to its large size and lack of atmosphere.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Easy location to get to a good overnight stop."
The staff very helpful with and information, room clean, and service ws good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice place, Great people."
The room was small but very clean and comfortable. Unfortunately our room did not have a mini-fridge but we managed without one for three nights. Upon our arrival we were greeted by Deborah the new owner. She was an absolute sweetheart and couldn't do enough to help. We didn't eat in the restaurant only because we are not into the french cuisine much. […] The location was great as it served as a great base to visit many of the battlefields in the area including a day trip to Belgium. The staff were great, the hotel was very quiet and I would stay again if I ever travel there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A hotel near, but not in, Albert"
The hotel is nice enough, but it's about a kilometre away from the centre of Albert. It's barely in Albert at all (it's the last building: after that it's fields).Genuine Expedia guest review
"OK for visiting Somme battlefields"
Paid for a superior room which appeared to be fairly basic, though adequate. We arrived on a Sunday and hotel restaurant does not open on Sunday evenings. Hotel is right on the edge of Albert town making walking into the Centre a bit of a slog! Albert has very few restaurants. "The Pub on the Corner" is basic but friendly and appeared the only venue […] open on a Sunday evening! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
the general experience was about average, the evening meal was well prepared and value for money, the breakfast on the other hand was excessively overpriced ( at 12 euros per person) for what was on offer including the boiling of your own egg. Generally speaking the hotel could use a facelift. The staff were extremely efficient, friendly and tried hard […] to make you feel at home. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Felt really sorry for the single person trying to do everything - answer the phone, do reception, serve in the bar and serve in the restaurant - he did his best. They need more staff. Thought the food was overpriced for the quality but the hotel is a bit of a walk from anywhere else so I guess they have a captive audience.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Small rooms, big heart"

What makes a good hotel better? The staff! This was not our first choice for a stay in the area, but it had availability. First impressions were not encouraging, as the building has been modelled on someone's idea of a castle and its position next to a road and adjacent to an Industrial estate does not enhance its visual appeal. However, we received a warm welcome, including being given details of the free wi-fi and the option of booking dinner. It was a little worrying to be advised that dinner was served only between 730 and 830pm! The rooms are quite small but perfectly adequate. The decor is looking a bit dated, but having had a sneek peek at some other rooms, I suspect that a slow refurbishment is happening. Considering the fact that the Hotel seemed quite busy during our stay, there were only a few staff in sight. They all seem to work exceptionally hard, keeping the bar patrons happy, sorting out the restaurant and handling all the check-ins and outs. And, despite our concerns about the short "window" for dinner, the two staff handling the restaurant worked perfectly together to serve everyone, in order, and always with a smile and advice over the food, which was of excellent quality, although from a limited menu. So, the rooms may be small, but with their attitude, the staff more than make up for that fact!

We were travelling back from the south of France and had chosen the Royal Picardie as a convenient stopover before Calais and the long drive north. Now, of the 22 rooms in the hotel 17 were occupied, and all seventeen were English, and of this seventeen all but one were on a WW1 battlefield tour. Yep, we felt like Geman infiltrators in a British invading party such was the curiosity that we were in the area and not doing the battlefields!.. In fairness, if we had more time we most certainly would have toured, but not to be on this occassion. The hotel is as described in previous reports, the staff were helpful, it is a peculiar looking building and the rooms are a little smaller than expected at a BW, however it was bland, bland, bland in that suburban hotel kind of way and you could easily substitute Albert for Andover, or Accrington, or Aldershot etc particularly given the overwhelming English clientele (on this night anyway). If you're there to do the tours though, the hotel is in about as good as location as is possible and would be fine for a couple of nights.
"Great location, friendly staff, awesome breakfast!!"

We were VERY happy staying at this hotel - the staff were extra friendly and helpful, the location was very handy for exploring the WWI cemeteries and museums (car needed as they are far apart), and the hotel was quiet, clean, roomy and comfortable. We ate dinner one night at the hotel restaurant - a very good value meal - but the restaurant was closed Sat night. We also had tea/coffee making facilities in our room (no fridge) and free wifi. Breakfast at 12.50 Euro/head was extraordinary - home baked vanilla egg custards, crepes, cereals, boiled eggs, meats, cheeses, bread, cakes, croissants, fresh fruit, yoghurt - all fresh, prepared with care and absolutely delicious! I would stay here again if in the area, a very pleasant place to visit.
"Great base for a tour of the Somme."

Picked this hotel for its location. My wife and I had planned to tour the Somme battlefield sites and the Hotel Picardie is perfectly located to do that. You can tour all the battlefield sites very easily from here. The staff are very friendly, the food is excellent, the rooms while not very big are adequate for short stays. There is a large selection of local activities advertised via brochures etc and WiFI is free.
"Quirky but comfortable and good breakfast"
08/20/14 MPB_UK Cheltenham, England
The hotel appears to be o. The edge of an industrial estate but don't let that put you off. The rooms are very clean and comfortable - especially the beds. Excellent selection for breakfast (extra €12) and very friendly staff all of whom speak good English if that is something you worry about. Ten minute walk into the town of Albert where there is an excellent Museum commemorating the Somme. Well worth the walk for that alone.
"Well sited hotel, good meals and excellent staff"
08/11/14 373RESQ Sydney, Australia
We stayed at this Hotel in Albert for two days to visit the Australian WW1 battlefields and graves. The hotel from the outside looks like a cheap Russian Castle however looks are deceiving. The rooms are small with separate toilet and bathroom (both separate rooms) however they are clean and seem to do though you would not want large suitcases. The staff are superb and go out of their way to assist with anything that you need. We had dinner in the restaurant on the second night of our stay and it was excellent. The veal and orange glazed duck along with salads were large meals however were expensive BUT beats any of the other meals that we have had in Albert and Amiens. WiFi is free and excellent upload and download speeds. We would stay here again as it is certainly central to all of the WW1 sites in the local area.

A good place to stop over en route from Cote d'Azur to Britain or as a base camp for exploring the Somme battlefields. Nothing luxurious, rooms are smallish but clean, comfortable and functional, with coffee making facilities, restaurant is ok, and breakfast ample. Staff are charming and very helpful. All round very decent and pleasant place to stay and good value for money

Thoroughly enjoyed staying here, nice sizeable rooms, clean and tastefully decorated. Breakfast and dinner at the hotel were tasty and had plenty of choice. Staff were friendly and helpful and we appreciated their ability to speak English. Would recommend anyone to stay here, found the area very peaceful and relaxing.
"A Gem of a hotel"
07/31/14 TonyMooreUK Middlesbrough, United Kingdom
I don't understand a couple of negative descriptions of the exterior of this hotel, I thought the same as my grandson Connor, it was like a little castle in the middle of the somme. Anyway to my review, this hotel is 100% the perfect spot for touring this part of the Somme. From check in to check out the experience was first class. The staff all speak perfect English (more than making up for my very, very basic French) The breakfast, the bar, the restaurant and all the staff cannot be faulted in my opinion. Like I said in a previous chapter this is a perfect spot for visiting this part of the Somme. The Lochnagar Crater, Pozieres Cemetery, Thiepval Memorial, the village of Albert and even Le Tommy Cafe are all within a small drive away. I am already looking forward to my return in March 2015.

Booked this hotel for a 4 night stay to visit WW1 sites and 2 steam railways. Good location on the very edge of Albert a pleasant small town, which has a very good WW1 Museum.Hotel was quiet very clean with friendly English speaking staff.Slept very well ,rooms had a quiet but efficient Toshiba aircon unit..Good but slightly expensive breakfast, evening meals also good ,but again a bit on the expensive side, with no reasonably priced wine, however there is a good and less expensive Chinese restaurant in town.No problem parking, plenty of space, but not secured.Decent hotel worthy of its 3 star rating.
