"Disappointed and treated badly"
Reviewed by Kate of Swedesboro, NJ on Jan 11, 2010
We were away alone for the 1st time in years without our children celebrating our anniversary. When we arrived they could not provide us with a Kings size bed. We got a room with 2 beds. This is what we get when we travel with out kids. I explained politely to the woman that we wanted a king size bed and she said, "Good Luck - you can talk to the supervisor". I was sent down to the end where I spoke to the supervisor and she basically shrugged her shoulders. I was polite, never raised my voice and didn't curse at her. She offered us a free breakfast and I told her that was really nice, but what I wanted was a King size bed and she responded very ignorantly - if this isn't going to change your attitude then I won't give you the free breakast and you will still not have a kings size bed. She was SO RUDE - I couldn't believe it. We went to our room with 2 beds and called down to ask for additional pillows. It took 2 hours of phone calls to get 2 extra pillows. The room wasn't cleaned well - there was poop smeared on the back of the toilet.

You get what you pay for. The location was perfect since the concert we went to was at the House of Blues, but some of the lamps in the room did not work. And for a king size bed, one would expect more pillows.

I reserved a non-smoking room, but when I arrived I was told they had a smoking room for me. After I explained that was unacceptable and that I reserved a non-smoking room, I was given, or so I was told, a non-smoking room. When I arrived at the room, it was, in fact, a smoking room. Luckily, the room did not reek; only a little odor in the bathroom. The most disturbing thing about the whole situation was being lied to. Before I proceeded upstairs to what I believed to be a non-smoking room, I asked point blank: "Is this a non-smoking room?" I was told that is was

This was a nice hotel for the price I paid. I had no difficulty with check-in and no delays. The staff was pleasant and efficient. I had to leave for a meeting during the day and the valet service was prompt. I had breakfast at the cafeteria and the food was good compared to the price. It is clearly an older hotel, but seems to be well maintained.

At a convention in a nearby hotel I saw the price of the rooms at the convention site, not having alot of money I sayed next door for almost half the price. I saw the condition of their rooms and then mine. I would stay at the Showboat anytime verses the neighboing hotel. The heat/air was great, the shower was great and the size was perfect. My friends were so jealous, the will be staying at Showboat next year with me.

My bathroom- They had a clogged drain in the sink-- still gave me the room though- I felt like there was a man there just before me who shaved-- hair and shaving cream in sink-- then when I went to take a shower- hair in tub.... I was not happy. Also friends stayed in hotel also-- their room, flat screen tv... come on-- as cheap as flat screens are-- don't you think that would be a great improvement instead of that goudy big box of a tv in the console??????? I never stayed there before, wasn't impressed.

I'm hoping that this review reaches the hotel managers! The Showboat's room I'll rate it as -3. I reserved 2 rooms @ the Showboat for my son & his fiancee' his room was fine until they pulled back the sheets & found blood & someone burnt cigarette butts all over them. When we contacted the hotel supervisor he came right up w/an attitude to follow! The supervisor told us that he'll knock of 30 dollars off of the bill, to our surprise when it was time to check out nothing was done, it wasn't mentioned @ all. So I don't recommend the showboat for a comfortable or clean room to stay in for a little bit extra, stay @ Trump!

The Showboat has all the great things a Casino/Hotel can have and they do it very well. First of all, it is clean and feels up to date, the hotel has convenient self parking, super buffet and other varied places to eat right on site, it is on the extreme north end of the boardwalk so it is not as crazy and honky tonk as parts of the boardwalk can be, the casino is large and it seems to me, the slots give good payouts so that you still lose, but at a slower pace than others. Though we did not use the beach, it is closer to the water than those hotels that are in midtown. We will definitely go back.

Valet took forever gettring our car. I would spend the extra 25 or 30 dollars next time and stay at one of the newer casinos.

We play poker. The poker room is great, right on the boardwalk. The rooms are nice and inexpensive. The only complaint I have is with the food selections. There is no where to get a quick GOOD snack or fast food type meal. Canal St is horrible and takes too long to get your food. Plus it is way out of the way. The buffet was Ok at best.
