It was a great value and location is every thing. The only complaint was no working A/C.and no fridge or micro in the room but I would stay there again.

The rate for vintage rooms is excellent. But you must get a room on the 3rd floor, not the 2nd floor where the noise and excessively loud music comes through the floor and is annoying. It is worth it to climb 1 more flight of stairs (no elevator) for the extra quiet. Vintage rooms are very large, but well kept up.

Employees cordial. A/C outstanding in room! My section had no elevators, very inconvenient to carry personal items to room. Felt insecure in this section of town most of the time, especially standing, waiting for lights to change. May return, 50% chance.

Downtown is a very different from the Strip. I happen to like it partly due to nostalgia but mainly I enjoy being away from the gawking crowds and the slick 20 somethings who believe they own the world. Unfriendly staff, rude security, clogged bathtub drain, broken door lock, the maid kept bothring me while i was trying to packup, at one point she actually opened the door and came into my room.

Always better to stay Downtown than the zoo that is the Strip. Comfortable, clean, cheap and reasonably quiet. Food is good in the Cortez Cafe and their prime rib dinner is a steal! Hotel is Old Vegas, we liked it. It's right at the beginning of Freemont St. Bell Hop was Nice & Fun. Very Helpful lots of info about the history of the place. The room was in the Tower, Big, Very Clean. The Slots were AWFUL! We played a lot! It was like throwing money away! We forgot our Player Cards & my husband said "Doesn't matter we won't be playing […] here anymore", but we did & still nothing at all. Not even a little win. NOTHING!! Food in the Cafe was GREAT! Now the noise from the music that everyone talks about just isn't back ground music when you try to sleep. It was MUSIC! Sounded like it was right out the window. Did not sleep. Went down at 5:30 am to change rooms & was told it would be like that wherever we were put. LOUD THUMPING MUSIC from a near by club that goes on until 2:30-3:30 in the morning. Never slept! The next night same thing! Never slept! Packed up at 6:00 am, left a day early and was told at check out they would change our room to a QUIET room & when I told them I should have been told that the day before the girl was so nice & really wanted to make it right but we were already at the Valet waiting for our car. In all I'm very mixed. Nice People, Clean, Great Food, Awful Machines & when people say the music was loud but "Hey it's Vegas", no the MUSIC IS LOUD! Ask for the rooms that you won't have that noise. They offered to fix this stay if we go back so all in all GOOD place but pay attention to my warning about the noise!! Read more

We booked our hotel room for a great price considering how expensive we've paid to stay on the strip. We like old Vegas anyway. After walking through their casino we scouted out a gift shop and a cafe. We went to our room where we found a COCKROACH and Called for a new room. It took over and hour for someone to come up to take our bags to another room. […] We were told we get a cabana the following day and could speak with the manager in the morning. We called in the morning to see when we could meet with her before we went out to do everything, it was my wedding weekend. They told us she had meetings until about 8am. Around 830 went down stairs to te front desk and were told she wasn't working that day..... Right ok. So another manager comes out asks u all kinds of questions asks if we've been comp and of course nothing has happened exept moving to the exact same room five floors up. She swipes some things and says here's $50 you can use on food. Go we go to the gift shop, have to put our breakfast back, head to the corner diner (cafe) for something simple. We order four waters, oatmeal, and bagels. It took about 20 minutes, and cost $9. For the rest of the trip we were too busy to come back and eat and never got to use this credit. We've called and they have said we can put the credit towards our next stay... Yeah like that's going to happen. Read more

Great location just one block away from Fremont Experience. Near many dining choices and bus line to strip. Only downside is noise from club and Fremont music carries really well, they don't stop until around 3 am. But who sleeps in Vegas??

Walls are a little thin. The sounds were at a low level but I could hear the TV, portable stereo, and activity of the guests in the next room. El Cortez is pretty dirty and stinky and not the safest place to stay as there quite a few squeezy and shady people around. Definetly use the safe in your room if you have things you don't want stolen as the door locks are pretty useless and hotel security is lacking. That being said it is cheap at $20 a night. I was put in a room that was right above a new night club across the street that kept RAP music going until 2:30 in the morning. My bed was vibrating so bad I couldn't sleep at night. It was not worth having a room. The maid finally got to my room at 4:30 and 5:00 each day.
