"Maids STOLE our umbrella!"
I am very unhappy with our stay. We had left a valuable umbrella, a family heirloom, in the room and it was STOLEN by someone while we were away. The maids were the only ones who entered the room while we were away, and hotel staff did nothing to remedy this issue. BEWARE of leaving anything in these rooms.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Downtown Las Vegas"
Our business conference location was on the strip, and if we used regular (or even express) bus to get there, it took more than an hour. So, if you intent to go to the strip every morning, better stay on the strip. Otherwise, this hotel is just fine, not fancy-shmancy, good value for your money.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Price for a Great Room in a Noisy Neighborho"
The room was surprisingly spacious and offered a decent view up from the tower. I had to pay $10 resort fee per night and there was not much amenity to speak of except the Wi-Fi, but Wi-Fi did work very well with fast speed. At night there was loud rock music from the street level (even though I was on the 11th floor) continuing way past 1AM (I never […] did find out where that music was coming from). I was always able to find a parking space in the adjacent parking structure even when I came back late (during weekdays). The weekday rate was great (the weekend rate was much steeper) and due to the street noises, I would always prefer the tower rooms over the others (which are only 2 stories tall I think). This location don't have heavy traffic as the Strip and it has easy access to 15 and 215 freeways. If you are not particularly interested in the attractions on the Strip, this is a good location to stay (buses are the only public transit though as the monorail doesn't come up this far north). The El Cortez is a great place to stay!! Just a couple blocks from the Fremont Experience so it's close enough to walk but far enough away to relax.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My room was the nicest room I have ever stayed in. The way it was decorated and laid out really surprised me. Very enjoyable stay. Thank youGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"for the price it was alright"
if you stay there try to stay in the new tower not the o r it smells like old sucksGenuine Hotels.com guest review
It was... ok. I usually am not too high maintenance. Customer service is big to me & in this case, the customer service was bad. Front desk was horrible. Slow check in & bad attitudes. Yup! Thats pretty much it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
El Cortez was not what I expected! It was so much more. Definitely will stay there again. Only thing I didn't like was the resort fee when I wouldn't consider the area much of a resort. Hotel room and casino were great!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
They put me in a vintage room, which smelled musty/moldy. Refused to put me in a different room. Shortly after being in the room, I got all conjested, nose got stuffed with a horrible cough, told the front desk. They need nothing about it. I feel I should be refunded my money for the stayGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"El Cortez stay"
My brother and I had a great time at the El Cortez. It was so comfortable there we ended up spending most of our three days in Vegas at the hotel itself. The people who work there are great, very friendly and accommodating. My brother loves the slots and the machines were kind to him. We look forward to returning there in the future.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great value. But nobody tells you that in addition to resort fee you also have to leave a room deposit of $150.00 per room. My $240. 00 is still on hold.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"close to Fremont Street"
It would have been benificial to have known that we needed to make arrangements ourself for the shuttle. We also didn't know up front that our charge card was going to be debited an extra $50.00 deposit. Over all our room was retro and a fun surprise. We would probably stay there again. The rate was fabulous and we received excellent service at the front desk. This made all the difference in the stay. The Tower room had a great view and was spacious, updated, and clean. The coupon book was excellent and we were close to the Freemont experience. "Close to Fremont Street experience"
The rooms were clean and quite comfortable, and parking is close. However, I was surprised when checking in that my credit/debit card would be charged an additional amount as a cleaning deposit. This amount would be refunded if the room is left clean. I never had my money tied-up for cleaning costs.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent and authentic ambience."
My only complaint is that beers are too expensive ($5 across the board), but a cheaper alternative was always literally down the street. The atmosphere of the gaming floor and its amenities was chill, for lack of a better word. Eye contact and smiles - nothing like the strip. The room itself was neat; kind of like a humble apartment. It had a fridge […] and no bugs, which is not what my friend who stayed at The Luxor could say about his room. Highly advised. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"The Cabana Suites are the best!!!"
Definitely the high end rooms of downtown. The staff are very friendly and laid back, the amazing DECO rooms are comfy and cozy, and the bathroom is high class. With the update of the Fremont Street area, this hotel has updated and is very nice especially for the price. While the casino floor is still old, the rooms are nice clean and comfortable. Well worth the price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not the best but do-able"
It looked way better on the photos. A lot smaller in person. We stayed in the pavilion ans it might as well have been a motel. Oh and it doesn't have a pool.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Stayed here on 7/30/14. Got what I thought was a steal on the room rate. Room was dated but not run down. Clean and comfortable. The bed was a little firm but not unbearable and the bedding was luxurious. Had a coffee pot in the room. Free Wi=Fi. Didn't know about the extra fee the hotel charges over what Hotels.com charges once you get there but still […] a good deal. Also, 50% discount for seniors in the restaurant which no one told me until I was leaving. Doesn't matter. I had a wonderful stay and would definitely come back again. Very close to Freemont street, two queens room was huge. Dining options are limited, there is subway which is open 24 hours. "First of all, what do you mean about review title?"
This time we were very disappointed, on where they located the non-smoking rooms. The room seemed to have it's walls embedded with smoke. No amount of air freshner would take the stink out. Disgusting. The room was non-smoking but wreaked of cigarette smoke. The shower was not clean. The furniture and carpets were old and dirty/stained/damaged. The fridge froze everything I put in it. This was our first stay at the El Cortez. I booked a Cabana Suite. Checking in was a breeze, parking is free in the garage if you are staying there. "Right in the Heart of Downtown"
This is an older iconic hotel. You are litterally steps away from The Freemont Street Experience and a step away from Container Park. So much to do in downtown and the neighboorhood. "Checked out early"
The El Cortez Cabana Suites are definitely an upgrade from the main hotel and casino. I had stayed there before and thought they were fine. A lot can change in two years I guess. This stay, nothing truly felt clean. We ended up checking out early because we started seeing bug bites on our bodies. It wasn't a pleasant experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Got room at bargain price. Staff was great on check in and through stay. Everyone seemed happy to be there. Unlike checking into big fancy hotels on the strip. They are so impersonal like banks. Hotel really well done up in funky retro design from 50s. I loved it. Did not expect much and had one of best stays in Vegas.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cute boutique style room in decent location"
We stayed in the cabana suites which is in a separate tower across the street from the casino. The furniture had a contemporary yet vintage boutique feel. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was luxe. The shower had great pressure and stayed hot. Overall location is not bad. We could walk to container park right across the street and it's not in […] the seedy part of downtown. Although the room wasn't very big, it was comfortable. "THEY WILL SEND YOU TO JAIL!!! NEVER STAY HERE!!!"
After a long trip they made me and my husband wait 5 hours to check in, then after that they gave me a hard time because they wantrd a $40 deposit from my bank card, and instead I had to put a $150 cash deposit because my card was acting up. After they said I would have a tower room with great view, they gave me a cheap, cheesy room with a horrible […] view of buildings right in front of my window. When I took a shower, the tub flooded to right below my knees and did not drain. When me and my husband had a small argument, they came to us and made him leave me there. I went outside to find him and while we sat and talked, police came from no where and took us to jail for 24hours, just to dismiss fraud charges.and screwed up out entire trip. So we just wasted money for nothing. luckily I got my things back after we got out of jail. As soon as we went to jail, they packed the room up and checked us out. So this is what happens when you stay at the el cortez after a long trip to vegas. The cheap price is not worth it. Stay anywhere but there! there wasnt even anything in the room worth a $150 deposit. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"DO NOT stay here"
I have never had such a horrible stay at a hotel in Las Vegas. towels smelled like smoke. We got new ones and they did as well we had to spray them with lysol. 2. The sheets/pillow cases had holes. 3. light fixtures dusty/dirty. 4. no elevator to room so we had to walk up with all our bags upon check in/out. 5. Temp setting on ac did NOT work well. […] If air was on it was freezing, turned down too hot. 6. ate at El Cortez cafe.they charged me to take my own leftovers. 7. cashier on 8/6 was rude (it was senior night and 50% off) and she wanted both of our id's although I was the only one claiming to be a senior (which I am). 8. We received several calls at front desk because our cell phones didn't work well in room and were told by our callers that they were nice the first couple times and after were very rude. 9. The room was nothing like the website. We spent over $200 on the room plus the resort fee and deposit plus what we spent in the hotel itself on food/drinks/gambling.
