"long wait to check-in"
The confusion at the check-in ruined the stay; we had reservations, we arrived early (30 min); we were told it would be 20 min. until a smoking room was cleaned. Then we had five 20-minute waits after being told that they were getting the requested room ready. Finally, they said we couldn't get our requested room; we were ready to cancel our stay, and […] someone miraculously found the appropriate room within 5 minutes after the 90-120 minute wait. This place was horrible, terrible, not worthy of any business.I would not recommend it even if it was free. There were charges for everything. The entire staff with the exception of the phone operator on day shift and the hotel manager were insanely rude. We had a four day stay and had to ask to have our room clean. The waitresses refused to give us water […] when we weren't gambling, they charged us a room security fee, a resort fee, they far from being any type of resort, they do even have a pool. The sun beamed through our room the greater part of the day. I believe the staff really need a set of courses on customer service and support. I felt more like I was from the outside trying to fit in my entire stay. There is definitely room for improvement atcthe El Cortez. By the way their wi fi is not free and it invades your privacy. My room #was 5508 from June 8,2014 through June 10,2014. Absolute horrible no Thank you! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Room was Motel type: Bath tub is a little small, but no problem. Air conditioning was initially set to heater, so it was kind of hot in the room. I had one of the junior cabana suites.. I thought it was just adorable. Perfect for the price especially! Totally remodeled and super sleek. Overall great experience... I can sit here and pick and every little flaws the hotel/room had but why do that. I got a Cabana Suite and I have to say I got more for my money. "Quiet hotel - great casino"
Casino personnel were all fantastic and eager to talk about anything you might want to share. Made the place feel very welcoming, as opposed to on the strip. The hotel was very well secure, while just off the freemont experience enough to be able to sleep when we wanted. We all booked a room together but were spread out. The pavilions we ok but would have rather stayed in the cabanas or towers. But love that there was security access to rooms and i can still breath when the elevator does opened to the casino. We all ate at the cafe, which our hostess was the best. The hotel is old and pretty dirty. The smell of smoke permeates everything even if you have a "non smoking" room. It is situated by Freemont Street and the noise can be heard in some rooms. I had to request a room in a quieter area. It may be good for a low budget room to use for a crash pad between gambling or partying. Nothing plush here.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
very unpleasant from the front desk to the room to the diner....I won't bee back....and because of the service I wouldn't even come back to gamble. the lobby looks nice and shiny, but as they say .....everything that glitters isn't gold.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Upon check in at the midnight hour we walk to our assigned room and to my devastation it was horrible. Everything about the room was poor, especially the bathroom! It looked like I was in the poorest part of the getto. Definitely not what I was offered upon reserving and booking on line. It was false advertising, I will never book again at this location. Thanks for getting me in a week before .Parking was good. The hotel is very old and smells like old Las Vegas. There is no pool. The bed was not comfortable. There was no in room safe My computer didn't fit in their tiny front desk safe deposit boxes. I would never stay here again. On the bright side. It is a great location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Decent - - but will never stay here again."
I stayed at the El Cortez during memorial weekend for Punk Rock Bowling 2014. With that being said, let me start off with the good. When it comes to location for PRB, they get an A+. It's literally half a block away from the entrance/exit. I'm talking staggering distance from the festival. I stayed in a vintage room. It was small, but clean and charming. […] The view sucked, but I didn't care. Also, they have an additional amenities fee, which pays for your towels and soaps, etc. I didn't know this until check-in, which at that point we had thought everything had been paid for already. What garbage. Now, the wristbands. The stupid, stupid wristbands. The things completely ruined the experience all on their own. You HAD to have them on at all times, even to just walk around the casino. Lost the wristband? Pay another $25 to replace it just to get to your room THAT YOU ALREADY PAID FOR. This just made us worry about the bands and kept us constantly checking each other (my husband and I) to make sure they were still on our wrists. Want to hang out with friends in your room? Sure, but it's going to cost an extra $25 A PERSON for them to make it passed security guards. This will only send us to gamble our money at other casinos that allow friends to hang out! I go to Vegas 2-3 times a year. The wristbands + amenities fees are the only reason I will not be staying at the El Cortez ever again, especially not during Punk Rock Bowling. It was a rude move. The El Cortez was the seedy place to stay for years, but after upgrading the hotel and adding the Cabana suites, this place has sure upped it's game. The rooms are retro-cool as far as decor, but the small size and the uncomfortable beds are lacking the swagger that the paint job and tile floors elude to. I would stay here again as the downtown area […] of LV is much more fun than the strip. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Punk rockers unite!"
It was Memorial Day weekend so we knew it would be busy. We did not know it was punk rock fest weekend. People watching was cool but the hotel made us wear these wristbands the entire weekend so security would know we were guests. They said it was due to the punk rock fest. We were also told that if we took off the wrist bands it was a $20 charge. My […] wife was not happy because the band did not go with her diamond bracelet. Cleaning service was less than good but not too big of a deal because we did not spend a lot of time in the hotel room. It was close enough to Fremont street for partying so location was good. I don't think I would stay here again because of the lack of room cleaning and making us wear those stupid wrist bands. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
18$ room and a 17$ resort fee. Next time I'll just spend the extra cash for a room at the nugget or the D. My room smelled like the walking dead filmed a zombie love seen in it and of coarse they had no other rooms for us to switch into. Plus there's no 24hour food here unless you want to spend 8$ on a cold gas station sandwich.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A very restful stay"
The staff was extremely helpful. One security individual, going off shift took several extra minutes to direct us in the hotel. I turned the wrong way coming out of the elevator and got lost among the slots. And even with the celebration outside we were able to sleep well and awakened refreshed to start the new day.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Best hotel value in Vegas."
El Cortez is exactly what it claims to be: the original Vegas. If you want the other Vegas, try down the street, it's all there. El Cortez is a good room at an excellent price: best value. Something I wasn't expecting was the full time uniformed guard two doors from my room. It took a little looking for a parking spot I liked, but once I figured out […] which elevator was close to my room there was always a reasonable spot available for the car. The cafe was a very nice surprise: cafe atmosphere 24/7 with food properly prepared at modest cost. Good steak, great shrimp, a good service. If you want to be pampered, go elsewhere. If you are looking for good service, reasonable location, and a good room all at rational cost this is the place for you. AND if you want a casino this place has that: without the bikinis, strippers, etc. Just a casino in the original Vegas style: machines and tables and plenty of each. BTW the staff is friendly and helpful. The rest of Fremont Street is right outside the door as well. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"good value except for resort fee"
I complained about the excessive noise from the Container venue across the street from the Pavillion rooms. So they upgraded me to a tower room (much nicer) for no charge. The $8.95 resort fee gets you wi-fi, which was very slow, and a free bottle of water! not worth it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
While the hotel was nice over all, there were too many hidden fee's! I ordered a room with two beds for four adults and when I get there, they tell me I have to pay an additional $28.00 per person. You also had to wear a wrist band to get on the elevators to your rooms! Not really a pleasant atmosphere at all!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel staff was really nice and the casino was nice and small. Rooms where nice but a bit dated. The bathrooms need some TLC. Overall it was nice. If your tall (over 6'5 like I am) you will not be able to stand upright in the shower.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place for the price"
I stayed for three nights, was visiting my elderly Father and didn't want to stay in the assisted living home :). The price is great. The room had clean sheets, and bathroom. It had hair dryer, iron, all the soaps and shampoos and lotions, coffee maker, complimentary bottled water (don't drink the big bottle. It cost $5). It is the oldest casino in […] Las Vegas, so it smells a little like all the smoke from the olden days. I stayed in the Vintage section. No elevator there, had to use the stairs, but I like the nostalgia. The shower didn't work, and I called and it was fixed quickly. Also had trouble with connecting on the internet (might have been my error) and they sent a technician to my room within minutes of my call. The neighborhood is very lively. There was a street party going on one night and it is half a block from the Fremont Street Experience, so you don't need to drive anywhere to go get a huge taste of Las Vegas. The parking is free and convenient. I'd stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"The perfecy stay"
My wife and I stayed in the cabana jr. suites for our second time in the last 4 months, awesome! They have fixed the slow elevator and fixed the safes in the rooms also. As with our first stay there, the checkin was fast and freindly and the room was clean and comfortable. For what you pay to stay anywhere in Vegas you can't beat the cabana suites, […] a real bargain. The hotel casino is old school and that's what we love about it. "not so good"
I have stayed at better hotels for the same price. The hotel workers didn't have a clue on what was going on around them, had to walk to The D to get back to the airport, because the airlines shuttle didn't pick up at the El Cortez. "Surprisingly good, excellent price"
I booked three Cabana Junior Suites in the Cabana Suites section of the Hotel. I was genuinely surprised at these rooms, as they were above my expectations for the very low price I paid. The beds were comfortable and clean, plenty of space in the room, the shower was spacious and clean. Housekeeping was great. The hotel amenities fee was one of the […] lowest I've seen when shopping around for hotels to book, although the only amenities offered were Wi-Fi, a small fitness center and the usual bottles of water and coffee. The location was far away enough from the Fremont Experience to get a restful nights sleep, but close enough that the walk was not inconvenient. Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay at the El Cortez. My advice would be to pay the little bit extra to get a room in the Cabana Suites, they are definitely worth it. I will be staying with them again on future visits to Las Vegas. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Cabana suites were modern & lovely, great service"
I was upgraded to the cabana suites. My room was brand new, modern, very clean and chic looking and I loved it. Good wifi and tv service. Every person I dealt with at the hotel was beyond friendly. I don't think I would have liked it that much if I were in the vintage or tower rooms. Problems .. cabana rooms should have more light since you cant open […] the window shutters as the street is right there. The fridge did not get very cold, then I put something in the freezer section and it froze solid and made water. I had a handicapped room, the shower temp was hard to control and very hot. I didn't mind that much but what would a handicapped person do? The casino itself is not something I wanted to spend time in, very smokey! I was disappointed that there is an extra $2.50 charge to take out food from the cafe, and I got the steak dinner and take out doesnt let you have the soup or salad. The woman who worked in that section was the least polite and actually made a rather insulting comment about why I didn't want to eat in the restaurant.. Why should I pay $2.50 extra and not get soup and salad? Because I don't enjoy eating in a smoke filled tomb, not because I'm alone. Change that policy or at least don't mention the items you aren't getting. That was the only thing that bugged me. Location was nice if you want to walk around Fremont though far from rest of strip. Great value for the money though. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
