"perfect location to walk to all sights"
The location was perfect, but the street behind the hotel was very busy on Sat. night and noisy. The staff was very friendly and they had you sit for check-in. They also had our room ready for us when we got there at around 9:00 am in the morning .The building was really nice, but unusual.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Location, and quality of staff!"
The facilities were exceptionally beautiful, combining the old world elegance with the contemporary quality of service. We enjoyed several meals in the dining room and were pleased with the variety and staff there as well as the front desk and the concierge service. A genuine plealsure.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ideally Located Hotel in Old Town Edinburgh"
This 5 star hotel was in the best location possible. We took a bus from the airport to the city center not knowing where the hotel was. How pleased we were to see it from the bus stop, a short walking distance! It is a few yards away from the main road in the Old City- The Royal Mile. If you looked in one direction, you could see the wonderful Edinburgh […] Castle and the other direction lead to the Queen's castle. The Royal Mile was loaded with pubs, restaurants and shops. The location made it so easy to go back to our room whenever we wanted. From our window, we had quite a view of the city. Our room was lovely with all the expected amenities and services. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and told us all about the city, what we could do... The concierge even spent time with us recommending things to do after we left Edinburgh and headed for Inverness and the Isle of Sky. He marked many spots on the map that we would not have known about on our own. The Scotsman Hotel was excellent in every way! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Exceptionally nice hotel"
We spent three nights sightseeing around Edinburgh and picked this hotel by the ratings, price and location near the train station. We were delighted to find it was a beautiful old building with large lovely rooms, bathrooms and very helpful and pleasant staff. We spent a lot of time in the bar and restaurant area which was reasonable and tasty - GREATdrink […] selection. Besides being across the street from the train station, we were also just a city block from the King's Mile leading to the Edinburgh castle. I give it a perfect rating. "Old world hotel, very comfortable"
As a tourist, I loved this hotel. The room was huge for a standard room, with big wooden doors and felt private from the nearest room. I loved being able to open the windows at night for some fresh air and the sound of sea gulls. When I came in from the chilly rain, I felt cozy in the Scotsman bathrobe and I used the pants press and the iron to dry […] my damp clothes. I even asked if they could turn the towel warmer on, which they did right away. It was an easy walk from the train station, and an even easier walk up the Royal Mile. The place is very welcoming. I did not have time to use the spa facilities during my 2 nights here. I would definitely stay here again if another deal was offered. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We absolutely loved this beautiful hotel. The staff was first rate, the room was very nice, and the location was perfect.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff, especially Ivor, was amazing. They made us feel very welcome and assisted with getting luggage to our room & making recommendations for dinner, etc. We had three rooms booked. One was extremely spacious, and looked out over the city. Large bathroom, too. The other two were more standard, but also comfortable. The only downside was the elevator. […] There are two separate ones, and sometimes you would have to walk through the lobby and toward the restaurant to the other one to get where you were going. With the limited number of lifts, it would sometimes also take awhile to be able to use it. Other than that, it was a wonderful stay! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"The Scotsman Hotel - good in cool weather"
Scotland was experiencing a heat wave when I stayed at The Scotman Hotel. Even with the fan we were given and the window open, it was almost too hot to sleep. As others mentioned, noise from the pubs near the hotel also made it difficult to relax. However, the staff went out of their way to make us comfortable, and the location couldn't be better. The […] next time I go to Edinburgh (in cooler weather), I would stay there again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
A great place to stay. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. One only has to ask and the staff will go out of their way to help. The hotel appears to have been newly remodeled. Our room was beautiful. The location was excellent being just a very short walk from the train station. In fact, they had a special entrance at the lower ground level so you didn't have to walk up to the top of North Bridge where their main entrance was. Great place to stay and in an excellent location. Overall 4 1/2 stars. The only reason that it would not be a five star is that it is very close to the railroad station and you can hear the noise from below. "Quirky and Historic, and Oh, the View!"
What a nice break from chain hotels! The Scotsman is a historic building, with all the charm and character you might expect. Some little steps here, some odd angles there, no two rooms alike--we love that kind of thing. The service was terrific, from the desk clerk to the bellman. No air-conditioning, but our big, beautiful windows opened with ease, […] and the views of Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth were positively breathtaking from the 7th floor. The location is right in the heart of Edinburgh, with easy walking access from Waverly Station. I would definitely go back to The Scotsman. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great Location and Truly Scottish"
This hotel is in a gorgeous old building you admire as you cross North Bridge. It is the former and longtime home of The Scotsman newspaper. The Scottish staff was very helpful, our room was spacious and clean. "Charming hotel with superb service"
I only had a day to spend sightseeing in Edinburgh after a business trip . The Scotsman Hotel was a perfect home base. It is close to everything, and the staff go out of their way to be helpful. "Lovely hotel with superb service"
They really did think of everything with this hotel; coffee and tea in the room, a clothes line for drying clothes, bathrobes, a large bottle of drinking water delivered each day to the room, a newspaper left at the door; everything you'd possibly need. There's even a special door through which room service meals can be delivered to the room in perfect […] privacy. The room felt luxurious and meticulously maintained, the service was excellent and the staff were genuinely friendly and eager to help. The location is ideal, right at the edge of the old town but a convenient walk to other parts of town, and there's a lift that takes you right down into Waverly station, where you can easily grab a train, bus, or taxi. Staying in this hotel felt like a vacation, and it was a pleasure just to relax and read, or soak in the bath after a long day. Absolutely lovely; I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. "Drapes for giants but beds for dwarves"
We loved the room and location, were very satisfied with the overall cleanliness of the room and building, and impressed with the very helpful hotel staff... but as a 5'2" woman, I could not pull the tall, heavy wool drapes closed by myself, and my 6" tall husband's feet hung off the end of the bed. Very strange! But we'd probably stay there again anyway. […] Really appreciated, too, the new double pane windows over the old sash windows. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Amazing Hotel! 9th Floor if you can get it!"
Amazing stay in wonderful hotel. If you can stay on the 9th floor or any with a view of the city it's amazing! Only one lift so slow to get to your floor or down, but worth it. Tough to get to if you're driving. If you can go ahead and look on their website about where to park and then bring your luggage up rather than try to stop outside the hotel […] and unload. "GREAT HOTEL AND LOCATION"
Incredible location at Market Street and North Bridge,One block from the Royal Mile and across the street from the Waverley Train Station and a block and a half from the # 100 Airport bus terminal(bus leaves every 10 minutes). You can easily walk to many of the Edinburgh sites. It is in an old but cool building next to a very steep hill so the layout […] is confusing. The lobby is on the 4th floor off North Bridge Street. If you are coming from the airport bus or train station there is a buzzer on Market Street on the 0 floor. They will let you in so you can take the lift up to the 4th floor. While I am the type to be a little uncomfortable with doors being opened for me, the use of my last name when being addressed, and having towels only used once, this level of service was performed with style and grace such that you felt they were genuine and sincere. "Classy hotel but needs renovation."
This is a top hotel in the historic building with its charm both from exterior and interior but it needs to have some cosmetics already. Carpets in the halls and in thew rooms are dirty. Old TVs and telephones. Also right above the hotel is a night club so leaving and entering the hotel during friday and saturday night can be not dun. Wonderful, historically quaint hotel, very centrally located to the Royal Mile and Castle, the rail station, and shops/restaurants of Edinburgh. Can walk to everything! "Heroic level of service"
This is a beautiful hotel and in the best possible location for seeing Edinburgh. All of this, however, is obvious from a glance at the hotel's website. What the pictures can't show you, however, is the quality of the service. On our first morning a fixture in the bath tub failed, requiring an extensive plumbing repair and rendering the room unusable. […] Unfortunately we couldn't move to another room as the hotel was fully booked. Instead, the resourceful staff moved us to a beautiful room at the Caledonia, with full breakfast, and provided a taxi service for us. When we returned to the Scotsman the next night, they upgraded us to the Penthouse suite (an astonishing set of rooms with a near-panoramic view of the city), with a complimentary bottle of scotch. We were greeted warmly by staff whenever we went out or returned. Everyone was fully briefed about the arrangements that were made (at both Scotsman and Caldeonia) and thihgs could not have been made easier for us. I wouldn't even think about staying anywhere else. "Perfect Location and AMAZING staff service"
Stayed seven nights on our Honeymoon trip. Hotel was central to everything, and the Concierges 'The Boys' answered our every request with speed and enthusiasm. As one might expect in a Historical building the plumbing was a bit erratic, but the room was lovely and the bed and linens were super luxurious and cozy. Free snacks and Hot beverages in the […] room as well as a full honor bar and luxurious toiletries. GINORMOUS snuggly towels as well. Front-facing room was a bit noisy from Waverly Station and New-Town weekend Partiers, but the view was well worth it. Would recommend Highly. P.S. "Sleek & Sophisticated"
Beautiful hotel & rooms. Great location. But...lighting very poor in room & bathroom. No lighted make-up mirror. No towel racks. TP holder in awkward place. Tiny closet - had to take out hangars to fit the few things we were able to hang up but the bar was big and bountiful. Staff very nice & helpful. The city is definitely worth visiting.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"A bonnie visit to the Scotsman in Edinburgh"
The attentiveness of the staff is one thing that they might work on. We asked for ice which was never delivered, we requested a wake up call - it never happened. They weren't quite as focused as we had hoped. Everyone greeted us warmly, we liked the turn down service. They upgraded our room and it was lovely with a great view. The work out facilities […] and pool lived up to their billing - unbelievable. The location really could not be better - North Bridge is in the middle of the Royal Mile. "Family Friendly Hotel"
Very family friendly. Can't compare with hotels in Paris that did not allow a baby for a room for two! The Scotsman staffs really welcomed our two year old very active daughter. We stayed five nights and it was very comfortable throughout. Highly recommendable for families with young kids.Genuine Expedia guest review
Lovely hotel with lovely furnishings! The couch had a cashmere tartan draping over it and the cupboards looked antique but incorporated modern elements which made the whole room feel very warm and comfortable. The hotel is just 5 minutes away from the Waverly Station and a few minutes away from the Royal Mile and tour agencies. My only minor complaint […] is that there are only 2 slow moving lifts so I can take some time to get in and out of the hotel but hey, I didn't mind waiting as the ambience was lovely and the staff were delightlfully friendly!
