We had a charming hotel experience. The hotel located in a good location for visitng York with access to the Minister within a 15 minute walk. We arrived by train and walked to the hotel without much trouble, but elected to take a cab back to the train station the next day to avoid wheeling suitcases over cobbled streets (we are a senior couple). The […] taxi cost 4 pounds. We ate at the restaurant on site and had one of our best meals on the trip, incluidng a locally brewed beer for my husband and pork medallions for me. The beds were comfy, the bathtub was great, and the staff was very helpful and polite. We will definitely recommend this hotel to friends traveling to York. Read more

Lady Anne's is in a beautiful setting, but the building is dated on the inside. The continental breakfast was minimal compared to others we had in England. Our room was adequate for our needs. I did not understand why we had to leave the building, cross a footbridge, use a coded keypad, and finally enter a password just to use the free wi-fi. The location is convenient to downtown (but then, everything is walking distance in York!), yet far enough away from the center to be peaceful and quiet even the night after England lost in the World Cup... This is a tidy and well kept hotel. It's not luxury by any stretch but it offers free parking and a reasonable bedroom for a modest (if discounted) price. Dissapointed with the leisure facilities at this hotel, the pool is about the size of a hot tub and you have to book a time to use it as it only takes one person at a time with the use of a swim trainer, whoever photographed the pool is an expert as it looks much bigger in the photo's, sauna is next to the gents shower room and was good though.

Had a lovely two night stay while visiting Barbica theatre which is about 10 mins walk away. York centre is about 5 mins walk away. The evening meal and breakfast were lovely and plentiyful. The room was cosy and clean and nicely furnished. It was very cold weather but we were really warm in the hotel and the bedroom. For the rate we paid this is probably the best value stay we have had in York and we have been many times. The staff were friendly and helpful and it was obvious that the hotel had just been re painted throughout. The breakfast and service in the restaurant was excellant. We had a standard twin room which was more than adequate. It was plenty large […] enough and had a flat screen tv and plenty of wardrobe space. The free parking is an added bonus in York and the Hotel could not be better placed to see the sights. Another nice thing for us what that it gave us the chance, in this most historic of cities, to stay in a period property with plenty of history of its own. Will definitely stay here again. We came by train, so had no parking problems. The taxi is under a fiver. Two goldfish ponds by the hotel reception are a nice touch. We were made to feel very welcome, & were personally shown to our room - though we weren't warned in time about the low ceiling on the staircase. A stroll of just over five minutes took us over the Ouse into the old city, where everything we wanted to see was easy to reach. The Reception staff were very helpful throughout our stay. Nice that it isn't a chain hotel. Quite quirky and modern which was a surprise having seen pictures on the web site. Good size rooms, very comfortable beds and good breakfast. In a very handy location for the station and the localbattractions.

Warm and friendly welcome on arrival, we arrived in a taxi right to the door in the dark, may have struggled to find if we'd walked from station, hotel is situated between two streets, car park is very tight. We were in a triple, room 61 which is one half of a cottage situated in the hotel grounds, lovely. Fantastic size room 1 double bed two singles […] ideal for 3 adults or a family, huge bathroom with bath and wet room style shower. Hotel bar/lounge area decent size plenty of comfortable chairs, hotel bar good selection of drinks. Breakfast in restaurant was self service, plenty of choice, cereals/fruit/yogurts/toast/pastries/full English only downside plates were a little on the small side. Mostly very friendly and helpful staff. Our deluxe room was excellent, but when moved to a standard room (due to floods) it was very small, old-fashioned and noisy with a very cold bathroom. Breakfast was always good and tasty.

Only stayed one night and that was enough! No such thing as a "Northern Welcome" we were just told, at 1315, "Check In is at 1400!" We had driven 200 miles and only wanted to tell them we had arrived. The room was very small and very tired. Because it was so shabby it was also dirty. This hotel is for people who like quiet charm. The historic buildings are arranged around a courtyard, and has a glorious garden. it really is an oasis of Olde Englishness. The rooms we had were newley refurbished and had a new bathroom bigger than most hotel rooms. the food was very good and well served. However this July the main 'people watching' area was set out in groups of basic dinning charis and tables. The location and condition of the hotel were very good. The staff were extremely helpful. Being so close to the city centre was a real advantage as was the parking although finding the way to the hotel car park without a sat-nav was a challenge. The address was given as Skeldergate but the entrance to the car park is from a different road altogether. […] Our only other complaint was the fact that as we were in as disabled room although being able bodied the wash basin in the bath room was too low and it was only possible to fill the kettle by pouring in water via a cupful at a time.
