"OK, but bring earplugs"
Hotel itself is not bad, good location, staff is nice and friendly, but some rooms are next to the railway tracks and there are trains passing every few minutes, blowing their horns. The street barriers are also next to the hotel so you'll hear those too. So, for those who are light sleepers, bring earplugs or a good doze of sleeping pills, otherwise […] you'll be up all night. Response by Hampton Inn San Diego Downtown Dear Erik, I am sorry that you found our hotel to still be noisy despite the quiet zone. I am not sure if there were emergency situations that compelled the train engineers to blow their horns, but they are nos supposed to. Unfortunately we still do have to contend with the crossing guard barrier bells which can be an annoyance. I am glad that you found our staff to be friendly. Hopefully we will see you again in the future! Respectfully, Miguel Rojas
"Nice downtown hotel."
Hotel looked freshly remodeled, nice modern decor. Beds were comfortable and were advertised that the duvets were freshly cleaned for each guest. The only downside to this place is the noisy train that passes throughout the night.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Hampton Inn San Diego Downtown Dear guest, thank you for your business and your review of the Hampton Inn San Diego Downtown. I am glad that you enjoyed most aspect of your stay despite the train noise. I hope that we have done enough to earn your repeat business. Respectfully, Miguel Rojas
"Great Petco Park Location"
My family went to San Diego to see the Dodgers play the Padres. This hotel is right on the Trolley green line, with a train stop right behind the hotel. It was very easy to get to the stadium on the train. The bad thing was that our room was right above the train tracks, and the hotel was completely booked. At times, the trains were a bit loud. However, […] the room itself was quite comfortable, the staff was lovely and the free breakfast was substantial. We will definitely stay here again, just in a different room. Response by Hampton Inn San Diego Downtown Dear Stephanie, I am glad that you stayed with us when you came to see the baseball game. I am glad that you found our hotel convenient and am sorry that the same part that made it convenient for you also makes the hotel loud. Thanks for your willingness to stay with us again and we will make sure to give you a room further away from the train tracks. Respectfully, Miguel Rojas
"Love this hotel"
Great location, very good breakfast, clean, nice, comfortable beds, big room, very helpful staff.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Hampton Inn San Diego Downtown Dear Guest, thanks for your business and the kind comments. We hope to serve you again in the future! Miguel Rojas
If you want sleep, this is not the hotel to get. I should have known once i saw two pairs of ear plugs on the nightstand that i wouldn't get any sleep. The train or trolly goes by often so its hard to sleep. The walls are paper thin so you can hear everything your neighbors are talking about even if they are talking in a normal tone.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Hampton Inn San Diego Downtown Dear Mike, I am sorry that we we were not able to meet you expectations. Thank you for the comments on this site. I know that if you visited us again I could get you a better location in terms of location to the train line, unfortunately I would not be able to get you in a better location for neighborly noise. I hope that you will considers staying at other Hilton properties in the future. Respectfully, Miguel Rojas

"Close to Airport, Little Italy AND San Diego Troll"
This is an average example of this hotel chain. There is nothing distinguishable about the physical facilities or staff - all what one would expect. The positives of the location are possibly altered by the proximity of the San Diego Trolly crossing alarms. When the trolly (modern above ground electric rail system) is right behind the property, the […] noise of the warning of a passing trolly, may be disturbing to some, thus the property provides ear plug on the nightstand. I've stayed here before for one night and would do it again but it may have been annoying to some. That said, I have also stayed in a luxury high rise in San Diego also close to the trolly line and could likewise here the chiming alarm on a very high floor on the opposite side from the trolly tracks. This review is not to discourage, only so when booking, one is aware of the item not promoted or warned about. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Very nice hotel in a great location. Breakfast was very nice. Even though this hotel is right on the train tracks, I didn't notice any train noise. Parking is a little tight in the underground spaces, but convenient. Would be a great addition to have a fridge in the room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Hampton Inn San Diego Downtown Dear HAK, I am glad that you got an opportunity to review the Hampton Inn San Diego Downtowns. Thanks for the comment regarding the breakfast and for the business. I want to let you know that we have refrigerators available upon request, hopefully next time you stay with us you will request one. I am sorry about the parking being so tight. Respectfully, Miguel Rojas
Great location near the water and near Little Italy (yummy food), very clean room, free hot breakfast, free wi-fi and easy to use free computer to print our boarding passes. We were there during a busy holiday. There were some parking issues but the staff tried very hard to make things workable. One of our nights, they moved a car to make a place. It […] was as if they saved us a parking space. I booked a handicapped room and they ran out so we were given a regular room. When the front desk realized the situation, a room fitting our needs was released just for us. I assume it was originally unavailable because it was scheduled for renovation. My only real complaint is the slow, small and jerky elevators. The staff was really helpful and friendly! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice hotel in good location"
Good location - within walking distance to harbor, Seaport Village and Gaslight area. Good breakfast. Staff was pleasant. Room was clean. Train tracks run behind hotel, so rooms in back could be noisy. Parking is extra.Genuine Expedia guest review

The thermostat in the room would not remain at its set temperature and I had to constantly readjust the dial but still had a pleasant stay. Staff was very friendly and accomodating. Ideal location for commuting via trolley, bus, etc.Genuine Expedia guest review

lobby was being painted while we were there so it was not as nice as usual. breakfast served scrambled eggs one day but mixed with ham and cheese on day 2. what about those of us who don't eat meat. "Nice location but...."
Although I loved where the hotel was located, and the staff was courteous...there was a lot of things that could have been improved. The lobby was a mess during a renovation project, our air conditioning unit decided to not work at night (when needed the most), and their complimentary breakfast set up was chaotic at best (not to mention pretty bad). Response by Hampton Inn San Diego Downtown Dear John, I am sorry that your stay was not optimal in part due to the renovation, a necessary part of any hotel operation. I had a wonderful stay at Hampton Inn, San Diego. I was initially impressed with the personal care given to me as I checked in, warning me that my room overlooked the trolley stop, which meant ringing bells. This was followed up with an invitation to change rooms after my first night, which I took advantage of. Secondly, my room was clean! "Crowded place to stay"
I didn't like how my room was right on the railroad tracks and specifically asked to be moved, which they did and that was a lot better. Otherwise, you have trains and horns running all night. The desk chair in my first room was really shabby-- I was stunned that they would have that in a room. No refrigerators. The breakfast room was packed-- I didn't […] even bother. The food in their breakfast is all over processed, packaged, non-gluten free, sugary with disposable everything. Really sends the wrong message about nutrition and sustainability. "Decent hotel for the price"
Pros: Staff were all friendly, helpful and professional. Free Shuttle to/from airport and zoo. If they are available they can take you to other area attractions within a certain distance. Free Breakfast & wifi Parking $12 (not that bad) Little Italy, Waterfront and Seaport Village are walkable. The trolley is behind the hotel. Most attractions and beaches […] are about 5-15 mins. Cons: Shuttle is free but what we found out is they take a break between 12:30-ish to 2pm. When we landed at 1pm, I called the front desk and they said they were on break ? I know I saw more than 1 driver when we were there. so they all take break the same time? that makes no sense and kinda sucked so we had to take a cab (cost us about $15 which we didn't account for spending) The trolley is literally behind the hotel. If you can't sleep with that kind of noise then be prepared. They do give you earplugs. It starts around 7am (I think) and ends around 10pm. Walking from the Gaslamp district back to the hotel, just be careful. There are pockets of homeless people on the streets. The hotel recommended the path we took but didn't mention that to us. The hotel overall was decent, not high end but not low either. It's right in the middle with comfortable beds, towels that are not see-through. they also clean everything for each new guest (as they advertise). Breakfast is continental with some hot breakfast choices which is a nice start. also had cookies later in the afternoon. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

was in a room facing the city side, train tracks right behind the hotel, train passing every 2 minutes all night long and the railroad crossing signal went off every couple minutes all night long when train was passing. on a positive not, I got free ear-plugs!!!!!! Overall, I was pleased with my stay. The hallways to get to the room were stale and warm, however my room was clean and comfortable, and the a/c worked well.
