Wish I had known about the $12.00 daily parking fee and some of the additional charges, this brought the room total to more than we had planned for. Overall this was a very nice hotel with exceptional staff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This was a very convenient hotel. Staff was great. The beds were comfortable. The breakfast was above average. The breakfast staff were wonderful about keeping the area well stocked and clean. The only downside was the rooms are small, but normal for an urban hotel. I would definitely return to this hotel again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Had a pleasant stay. Standard Hampton rooms and amenities. Very friendly staff. Typical Hampton free breakfast, but exceptionally well managed. Only downside to this hotel is its proximity to the main passenger railroad lines into San Diego. There are 3-4 trains which arrive/depart past the hotel between 10PM and 5 AM. Some of the hotel rooms are directly […] adjacent to the tracks. All that being said, we stay here during most visits to San Diego due to its central location, near the water front, airport, Gaslight. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

I thoroughly enjoyed staying at this Hampton Inn and as a added bonus the view of the marine museum was greatGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Not only was the room nice it was in a perfect location. Personnel at the front desk were very helpful in providing places to visit, restaurants to visit, and of course, directions of how to get there. We had a great time. The only problem was the train noise; however, they furnished earplugs and that worked. I would highly recommend this hotel and […] will go back again next time I'm in San Diego. "Convenient but very noisy."
The accommodations was sufficient for our short stay and the breakfast was sufficient. Location was close to freeway and directly across from park and museum which was nice. Main complaint, which had nothing to do with the hotel itself, was the noise. The trolley and Amtrak tracks were directly behind the hotel and the sound of the gates were pretty […] much thru the night. In the morning, the jet engines revving for up for take-off were noisy. The paid parking was ridiculous. They were the tightest spaces we've seen!! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice hotel - super scary elevators!"
The hotel was nice and clean in a great location. It was just a bummer to have to take the stairs to the 6th floor because the elevators were freaky shaky and slow.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"They were good about addressing the terribleness"
It was ok. We started off very bad Nd ended ok. They took care of our issues.Genuine Expedia guest review

Response by Hampton Inn San Diego Downtown Dear family man, thank you first and foremost for you patronage of our hotel! Thank you also for your comments here post-stay. A forum such as this allows guests to be better informed before they stay here and perhaps initiate a dialogue with the hotel before they come so as to make their stays more pleasurable. I hope that we have earned your future business! Respectfully, Miguel Rojas
It was perfect for what we needed. The parking was a bit scarce but the hotel was in a great position we went on vacation to live In the hotel we wanted to visit san diego and the room was perfect for sleeping and basic activities. Its close to the marina and the fairy as well as the tram. And walking distance to beautiful sightsGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Room was a little small, but the jacuzzi tub certainly made up for tightness. The room was clean and the beds comfortable. Was there on the 4th of July and it was right across from the biggest fireworks display. We didn't even have to leave the hotel! High definition t.v. ensured that we stayed in to watch a couple of World Cup games, a definite plus […] for the men in the family. Close to all the downtown attractions. Breakfast was wonderful and rotated daily. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We did get stuck in one of the elevators, but someone did come and rescue us in about 15 minutes. Response by Hampton Inn San Diego Downtown Dear Marcet, thank you for staying at the Hampton Inn San Diego Downtown, we appreciate your business. Also, thanks for the great review despite one of the issues you encountered with our parking lot size. "Love the new park across the street!!"
Love that you can self park in downtown, and of course the complimentary breakfast. Hotel staff was very helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
Best part of hotel is location. Right in the heart of everything. There is a tram behind hotel that will take you everywhere you need to go, so once you park you don't need your car anymore. As always, staff is friendly and the breakfast in the morning was good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Even though I had read a number of reviews that stated that the noise of the trains was unbearable, we found that the ear-plugs left for us on the night stand were not necessary at all! We slept very well and all was quiet! Very nice hotel!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was closed to trolley stop and walking distance to Little Italy. It was clean and complimentary breakfast was good. If you are sensitive to noise, this is not your place because it is really close to train station. But for me, it was ok. The family had a good sleep. Parking is limited. If you find a slot, better not move your car and just […] commute. The elevator needs a little maintenance. Over all, I liked it. I may want to stay there again if we go back to San Diego. "Nice hotel but bad parking situation"
This hotel was very clean. I love how comfy the bed and blanket was. The staff was really nice and helpful. Location was close to a lot of restaurants, bars, and other attractions that are walkable. However, the hotel parking condition was bad. I arrived at the hotel around 10pm and learned that you have to pay twelve dollars to park. I can over look […] that since location was close to food and attraction but what made me upset was that there was no space to park. I see other cars having to made up a spot just to have a place to leave their car. I wasn't going to risk having my car scrape by other cars that are trying to turn so instead i result to parking on the streets. Fortunately it was free to park on the streets during the weekends. "fine stay & lively neighborhood"
Pro: Our stay was short, just a couple days, but the hotel was fine,15 min from Sea World and central to many restaurants. Short walk to the water. Breakfast offered a good variety of hot and cold items: waffles, eggs, sausage, cereals, etc... Glad to see mini fridge in room. Con: Parking was difficult. Their garage is really tight with narrow spaces. […] The Expedition we rented wouldn't fit anywhere and we had to back down a level to find room to turn around to leave. Luckily, the front desk said we could park along the ramps or in a handicap spot and not worry about getting towed or a ticket. Also, the trains pass right next to the hotel but they provide earplugs! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

wish i would have known how close the train tracks are to this hotel. train bells kept me up all night and the parking is horrible, way too narrow not enough space to park your car with so many cement poles and for $12 a day it should be FREE.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We came for a religious convention and we usually stay in really nice hotels with our group discount, there were none left so i searched on hotels.com, the operator helped me find the hampton downtown at a reasonable price, we were welcomed with a smile, very friendly staff! I have ocd and i felt this hotel's linen n towels n carpet were the cleanest […] i've ever seen! Housekeeping is awesome. I work at a resort and this hotel was a 10:) when we left for dinner and came back the front desk noticed and re-wecomed us back n wished us a good night. The breakfast was really really good too, i even saw the manager greeting n conversating with the kids n my 3 kids in the lobby. The only thing i could say that i was dissatisfied with is they dont have a Jacuzzi :( it would have helped my muscle pain, but im not much of a swimmer anyway. I hope next year they get added to our jw convention list. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great place to enjoy San Diego"
I had no idea how centrally located the Hampton Inn was. We were a short walk to the harbor and a short drive to Balboa Park and the Gaslight District. Not difficult to find with GPS. We finished check-in within 5 minutes. Staff are friendly and helpful. "Train Crossing Noise"
The hotel offers a great location and a professional and friendly staff. We were in SD for a bicycle event and the staff was easy to deal with, when we requested a late check out. One major negative, however, is the constant loud bells of the SD Trolley and railroad crossing, located at the northeast corner of the hotel. While the hotel provides soft […] earplugs, sleep was problematic at times. That said, we did well riding the bicycle event. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Yikes, keep looking!!"
First, I wasn't allowed to get my points because I didn't book directly w/hotel. The girl at the desk made no attempt to help with this. Second, our view was that of a Mexican fast food drive thru. Didn't even bother opening the curtains. Maybe because of how I booked? Third, the room was in need of a serious facelift! The restroom, there was nowhere […] to put your toiletries no counter just sink, toilet shower. The room overall, very small. I must say it was the worse Hampton I've ever stayed in. The only plus, location. A few minutes to Gaslamp, Petco park and many other attractions. But, I will not be staying here again! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Hampton Inn San Diego Downtown Dear Nubia, I am really sorry about the negatives you encountered while staying with us. We strive to provide the best accommodations possible i am sorry that you felt like we did not make any attempt to help you with your points. Not knowing the details on your reservation, I can only surmise that we were already sold out in which case changing a reservation to points is not possible, even if we call the Hhonors desk on your behalf. One thing I want to assure you is that we do not block rooms based on how or where people book. We do give preference to HHonors guests whom we know are arriving if their membership number is in the system, but aside from this we do not. As far as the vanity space, this was because your reservation sounds like it was booked for an accessible room. Hopefully after we renovate our rooms in 2015 you will opt to give us another chance. Respectfully, Miguel Rojas

"Oh the train"
When I checked in to the room I saw 2 pairs of sealed earplugs in the bedside table. I thought it was peculiar since I've never seen those as amenities in a room but I was in a hurry to get to dinner so I didn't think twice. After I got back to the room later that evening I could hear the "ding ding ding" of the train crossing a few blocks away. Thinking […] to myself there must be some city ordinance and it stops by 11pm or midnight at the latest. Nope it goes on all night. It's not the loudest thing in the world but loud enough to notice. I wish this was something I knew in advance. Overall the hotel was fine, just the train sound all night left me with just a few hours of sleep. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Excellent location near lots of restaurants."
We had some trouble with our bathroom when we first arrived. Contacted the front desk and they took care of it. About an hour later had more trouble with the bathroom, called the front desk 9 times, no one answered. Went down to the lobby in my PJ's to talk to someone. The Manager on duty could not answer my question regarding why the phone wasn't answered […] and was frustrated with me. Really, if I didn't want a working bathroom, I would have slept in my car. She finally said she would send someone to my room. After 1/2 hour I called back down to the lobby asking when I could expect someone to come to my room, because I still couldn't use the bathroom. She asked if I would like to check out of her hotel? Obviously to much to ask for a working bathroom. I will be contacting the Manager's supervisor also to let them know about my stay. I am so glad I chose this hotel for my overnight stay in San Diego. Hotel is in a great location! Wonderful view of the harbor from our room. Exceptionally clean hotel with outstanding, friendly staff. James at the front desk in particular helped us out with renting a wheelchair and suggestions for dinner. SO very helpful and friendly. Will definitely go back!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We realized the hotel was in an excellent location; however, we didn't think about the Amtrak train rolling by our room at night. The hotel staff provided us with earplugs which definitely came in handy. The only problem we experienced during our stay is we had to use our car at night to drop off a family member after the ballgame and we were told we […] might not have a parking spot when we returned and we were paying a daily fee to park our car at this location. It would have been nice to be made aware of the parking fee and the fact we were not guaranteed a parking space if we had to use our car for any reason. Thankfully, upon our return we were able to park our car on a ramp within the parking garage. The hotel staff was very responsive and courteous to all of our needs, the room was very clean and comfortable and the breakfast was terrific. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good hotel but noisy"
Hotel is good for what you pay in terms of location, service and room. Just beware of the noise. Train tracks are right behind the hotel so you will hear all night the train passing by and the warning sounds. If you are sound sensitive, you will have a bad night. If not, then this is a nice choice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
