This was my 2nd stay at HJI&S, and I was again very pleased. It remains a simple, yet nice, place when you need a clean and inexpensive place to sleep for a couple of nights. HJI&S is also very convenient as it's located on the main highway to both the Marina and Boardwalk districts. This was great for me as I had commitments in both areas during my stay. The surrounding area has many restaurants/stores, with my favorite, WAWA, right across the street. This time I stayed in the Jacuzzi suite, and was quite satisfied. Both the room and tub were a nice size, and as usual very clean. I reserved an additional "standard" room for friends, and they were very happy as well. The HJI&S is a very simple hotel. It may not have all the frills that some may be looking for, but for a 1 1/2 star hotel, it delivers!

The phone didn't work, half the outlets didn't work, the refrigeratorworked on and off, and the bathroom door didn't close right and had a space between the wall and doorjam. the ice machine on my floor also didn't work. Location was good to get a cheaper room than boardwalk, but only Denny's and a Shell station to walk too right along the highway. Not very convenient with kids. And driving is a problem due to the road it one way and you have to drive a mile to get to u-turn road to come back to another to get to Denny's a block before hotel. Other than that, stay was good. Very friendly. While there, a person staying on our floor was smoking and all fire alarms went off. Desk person was prompt and forceful ( in a good way) to enter the room and make sure of issues before clearing the alarm. Was very happy of that with children in room and everyone in hotel notified by alarm of potential fire hazard. Covered parking also a plus. Also rooms were cleaned well in advance which allowed us to check in early. Very rare these days. Again, Staff very friendly and courteous and helpful.

The staff was friendly and extremely accommodating; problem was overall quality of the room. The carpet seemed grungy and moldy, the bathroom small and the light made a very loud noise. The worst was the condition and quality of the beds -- springy, bony old mattresses and less than clean sheets. Location is fairly far from casinos, but that's what you get for a Friday night cheap price I guess. For the reviews on this hotel I expected better.

I recently stayed at this hotel with my husband and I was very pleased with the outcome. The staff was super friendly, the hotel lobby was very well kept. When we arrived to our Jacuzzi suite we were impressed to find that the room was not only quite large but that it was extremely clean and above all very QUIET!!! We were looking for something romantic and relaxing and that is exactly what we got in our stay at this hotel. Only downside is that its a good 15 minute drive to Atlantic City but its well worth it, when you return to your room to relax after a long day of walking down the boardwalk! The price was phenomenal for what we got and we will definetly return very soon!

This hotel was more than i expected for the price i paid...I looked online at a few other hotels and all of them were $10-$15 more a night than this one. I decided to take a chance and stay here...I was completely satified! Each room has either a balcony or patio that you can go outside and get fresh air without have to actually leave your room, which i thought was very convenient especially for smokers in a non smoking room. There was a weird smell when i first entered the building but suprisingly when we got to our room there was no smell. The only thing that i wished was in the room and later found out that you could request was a refrigerator & microwave. I plan on staying there again in a few weeks...

If you want a place to lay your head, some free internet and a clean room, courteous staff, this is your place to stay. I didn't have a chance to use my hottub (king suite non-smoking) but the room itsself had a nice aesthetic. I've actually paid less for a similar size room without the hottub, but hey, it's the shore and you get what you pay for. The only major negative is soundproofing and i'm big on finding quiet places. I planned my stay to get away from the workweek and relax and get some quiet sleep. It's fairly decent unless you have someone obnoxiously hollering or fussing in the hallway. If you're looking for a spontaneous romantic getaway booking, this may not be your ticket. Family vacation, yes.

I go to Atlantic City twice a year for extended weekend stays. I usually stay in the Absecon area to avoid the expensive casino hotels. What I look most for in hotel is cleanliness, and the Howard Johnson's Inn & Suites is sure clean! The room are neat and tidy, the rug is clean, and the rooms are serviced each day by housekeeping. Amenities I look for are refridgerators and microwaves, and I have a personal preference for interior corridors. The HJ Inn & Suites has all these things as well. The bed blankets were a little on the thin side, but the room's heater worked fine and kept me comfortable. My one complaint about my stay was the front desk didn't seem to communicate from shift to shift. Unfortunately, this lead to me not recieving an important message, which resulted in a lot of confusion and frustration on my part. However, when it comes to being a clean, comfortable place to stay, at a reasonable price, The HJ In & Suites fits the bill. PS: For those not familiar with the area, Absecon is a 10-15 minute drive from AC and the casinos. This is no big deal if you are driving, as it's it a very direct trip. If you are going to be drinking or leaving the car at home, you may be better off staying closer to the boardwalk.

Dresser had three visable broken draws. No coffee condiments left in room. Lamp shades dusty and no cover plate on one wall outlet / fax line did not work. I had a king bed and the sheet did not fit they placed a queen flat sheet over top of matress, when I checked in did not notice, until I was asleep and it crumpled underneath me and had to keep getting up to tuck the little bit of sheet that was hanging over the side of the bed under the materess-- I did not sleep all night. I'm used to staying at the casinos when I go to Atlantic City, but this visit I wanted to stay longer than my comp rooms covered. I did a search for "inexpensive hotels" online and came across this Howard Johnson. It rated fairly well amongst it's competitors, so I figured, "for the price, why not?". Once I arrived I was pleasantly surprised. It was in a great location, right off the Parkway, The hotel was in nice shape, and the staff greeted me and was very friendly. The room, in my opinion, was better than most in the "highly rated" casinos. Very clean with a jacuzzi, microwave, refrigerator and an all-around "modern" style. The room pictures were not "doctored" in any way - what you saw was EXACTLY what I got, and I was IMPRESSED!
