Excellent value for the money. Not a huge hotel, but rooms were clean, updated, and had nice high end items. Good breakfast included, friendly staff, good location, decent restaurant. Reminded me of a smaller Sofitel (and I have stayed in many of them around Europe). And a good fitness center, best I have been to in a European hotel.

The Marques de Pombal is located in an ideal part of the city. A Metro stop is literally a few feet out the front door, and the main stop of the open-air buses is just a short 10 minute walk away. Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, and the quietest room I found In Portugal. Some other hotels had thin walls and also offered little defense against the noise of street parties, which in some Portuguese cities go on until 2 a.m. . When you're traveling, watching local TV shows can be interesting (and I happen to love the sound of Portuguese), […] but mostly you want to watch programming you can understand. This hotel had 40 cable channels, and I was able to find English-language programming on as many as 16 of them. Always on NatGeo, CNN, Bio, two BBC channels and MTV, of course, but also on some European channels I was unfamiliar with as well as occasional American programming, captioned in Portuguese, on a couple of local stations -- it was a piquant experience to watch "Ice Road Truckers" with Portuguese subtitles. My mom and I stayed at this hotel for seven nights while we were visiting Lisbon for the first time. She and I greatly enjoyed the hotel. It is a great stay for many reasons. First of all, it is in easy walking distance (about 15 minutes) of the historic part of the city. For those who would prefer taking the metro, the nearest stop is just a few minutes […] by foot up the street so it is also within easy metro access. The hotel is sparkling clean---one of the cleanest hotels I've ever stayed at (and I've been to a lot of hotels all over the world!). Breakfast each morning is hands down the best breakfast you can imagine: beyond just cereals, fruit, yogurt, coffee, and pastry rolls, there are cheeses, deli meats, freshly baked wheat rolls, sausages, eggs, bacon, potatoes, etc. Too many foods to list here. The rooms are on the smallish side but are very clean. The alarm clocks have an I-Pod dock so that was a cool thing to see. The reception desk staff is a little less friendly than the housekeepers and kitchen staff, but perhaps it is merely them trying to be extra formal. My mom insisted on leaving a few euros each day for the housekeepers even though tipping is not customary. I don't know if it was the extra euros or what, but each day we returned to the hotel from our daily jaunts we found our room not just clean but practically sparkling. We were even given new soap and shampoo DAILY along with the fresh towels and bathroom rug. Very impressive. Read more

The hotel is conveniently located that includes a metro station in front. The staff was very friendly and helpful with by providing us a map and pointing the tourist attractions. It is well kept and clean. Continental breakfast was provided. Highly recommend this hotel. Service level was outstanding.

Pombal hotel is more than 4 stars in friendliness and its holding quality. The hotle price is fair while its location is superb. We do recommend to stay there and would repeat that experience.

After 30 hours of travel, it was auspicious to have chosen such a nice and not too expensive hotel to stay for our 1st night in Portugal. TripAdvisor guided me to it. Stayed 5 nights. Room was decent size by European standards, well-appointed, as was bathroom. Bed was quite comfortable. Hotel is exceptionally clean and quiet. Staff is unfailingly polite and helpful. Breakfast spread was extensive--eggs, meats, cheese, breads, cereal, juice, coffee, tea, more. The location is excellent, just off Marques de Pombal […] circle, a major transportation hub. The airport bus stops there as do several city bus lines, the hop-on tourist buses, and the metro. It is a maximum 15-minute walk downhill to Restauradoes Square and the downtown beyond that. There are several restaurants on the side streets behind the hotel as well as along Avenida Liberdade between the hotel and Restauradores. The return walk from downtown is uphill, but it is a fairly gentle grade (certainly among the gentlest by Lisbon standards!). Read more

Nice good quality hotel with extremely friendly staff, recommended. Reasonably well located on one of the main streets, 15 minutes walk from the center and near a subway station, maybe five minutes walk from the bus stops. We stayed with a baby - a baby cot is provided free if required, and upon request we also got a water boiler for warming the baby […] food and formula. The hotel has a nice gym, with free weights and a good selection of equipment. There is a sauna but it requires a separate reservation and extra charge. The hotel restaurant is very nice, reasonably priced and open late - we went for a late night snack and drinks and were happy, and it seemed quite popular and the menu seemed to have a good selection of warm meals. Breakfast was good standard hotel buffet with scrambled eggs, sausages, fruit, yoghurt etc. Only minor issues - one of the two elevators was broken for two days, and since there were no stairs except a maze of emergency exits, it would be often full and we once we had to wait 10 minutes just to get two floors down for breakfast. The air conditioning unit in the room had no instructions and seemed to have a logic of its own, but luckily the window could be opened. Overall a very good hotel, nothing special but surely recommended. Read more

The Marques De Pombal Hotel is in walking distance to major sights and is across the street from a metro stop. The hotel room was modern, clean and comfortable. Even though the hotel is on a major street, the room was quiet. Breakfast was included and was a nice buffet of hot and cold foods. The staff was friendly and helpful.
