"great hotel"Reviewed by thomas of "montpellier" on Feb 5, 2012
We were at Roma for 4 days, then 3 nights.
First good things : all the staff speak english :)
For the first night we were in the Room numbered 1. Great but a little noisy as It is located just beside the entrance. We ask another room then
"Amber Palace, was only 15 min walk to Colosseum"Reviewed by Vince of "Cork" on Feb 5, 2012
We found the Amber Palace hotel was very convenient to walk into the city only 15 mins walk to the Colosseum, 5 mins from train station and Metro. the Hotel staff were very very pleasent and very helpful, the room was very comfortable and the Breakfast had an excellent choice
"Friendly staff & nice location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 3, 2012
The staff of Hotel Rex was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The location is good, very close to the Termini train station and for us (young couple) all the main sights of Rome were within walking distance. The room was spacious and clean. We were sleeping in a street-side room, but it was very quite. However, the room looked a bit worn and old. The furniture, floor, etc looked like it could use an update. The only thing that bothered us was the bed. The matrasses were really to old and had taken the shape of all the guests before us (deep hole in the middle). Overall we had a very nice stay at Hotel Rex and would recommend it.

"Good hotel , friendly staff, little far from city"
Very good hotel, staff very friendly. Hotel little far from city but provides a free shuttle service.

"Excellent in allaspects."
For a city like Rome, with all it's noises during day and night, the location of the hotel is very good. A place to relax during your resting hours. You should manage your times carefully, in order to travel to the historical city and return to the hotel with the shuttle bus provided free of charge by the hotel. It runs very punctual. All the features […] of the hotel reflects it's 4 Stars category outstandingly. Not a common thing in Rome. I will definitely return to this hotel while in Rome, and I fully recommend it. Read more
"Nice"
Great place with very good service. I hope the owners keep up with renovations years down the road. Don't forget to up date back of house.
"Convenient to airport. Great pool."
This is the second time we've stayed here. It's convenient to the airport and has a great pool. The prices were reasonable a nd the room was fine.
"Be prepared to put your hand in your pocket"
As the title suggests you are going to have to pay for lots of extras most hotels include as standard. Parking for a start 14 Euro a day! Wifi, most hotels allow you to use the Wifi in the lobby for free, not here 4 Euro for half an hour. Breakfast (I must admit that I was aware that this wasnt include in our room rate) but 16 Euro per person per day!! […] If you want a beer take your credit card 9 Euro for one beer. The location isnt very good either, they do run a courtesy bus but it only runs once every 90 mins so if you miss it you either have to pay for a taxi or find somewere to wait. The room was clean and tidy though and it was made up every day so that was nice and most of the staff were friendly (receptionist when checking in had an attitude problem). So all in all if you have the spare money to pay for all these things you would be better off booking a hotel closer to town and paying the extra there. This hotel appears to be mainly for tour groups. Read more
"Good hotel far outside the centre"
It's shuttle services are good, however, there's one thing to consider: The last shutte back to the hotel leaves at 10pm from the Vatican wall. This means that the dinner usually has to end around 9pm for the connections to work out and that may be a little too early.

"Very Nice Hotel"
Very clean and well maintained. Check-in was very slow considering they had 3 people at the desk. The room was clean and spacious. Internet was available in the room however you had to connect your computer to a Ethernet cord for a price. The only wi-fi in the hotel was in the lobby downstairs, not very convenient especially because you still had to […] pay for that as well. And last, check out was also very very slow. Read more
"Hotel Melia Aurelia Antica - yes, but ..."
The Hotel Melia Aurelia Antica is about 8km from the Vatican, so is reasonably close to centre of Rome, with a free courtesy bus. However, the hotel's web site indicated that courtesy bus would pick up travellers from Via Della Giulio Cesare, near Ottaviano Station, but the courtesy bus actually sets down about 500 metres away, at Piazza Risorgimento. […] We were stuck for an hour waiting for a bus which didn't come. We eventually took a taxi to the hotel. Hotel rooms were spacious and comfortable, but do not have electric jugs for making tea or coffee. As the hotel is located about 2 km from shops, this is a real inconvenience. Additionally, there was no information about the local ATAC bus route (892) which passes the front door regularly, and connects to the nearest shops, cafes and restaurants, and to the Rome Metro. You should research this on the ATAC web site before going to the hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful, and rooms were spotlessly clean. Read more
"Watch out for the fees"
I was caught off gurard to find out that parking was 16 Euro (over $20.00 at time of our travel). However, you may park your car outside that hotels fenced off area (not recommended). We found that breakfast was fairly expensive as well. The beds in this hotel were the best of our three week vacation, which is much needed for all the sightseeing that […] can be done. Read more

"Outstanding Hotel for the Money"
Great Hotel, exceeded my expectations for an Italian hotel. Its a little out of the way, but a lot closer to the airport than the hotels that are centrally located in Roma. Friendly staff, plush rooms, a couple of nice shops on the first floor, swimming pool and a free shuttle service that drops you off right up the block from the Vatican was everything […] I needed in a hotel when I was passing through Roma. I would not suggest eating or having drinks at the hotel as it is very expensive, so I brought food back to room from city. Other than that, I AM definitely staying at this hotel when I return next year, it was a great hidden gem I came across on this site. Read more
"Bus transport"
Bus transport provided by the hotel from/to the hotel was oke. But I think the capacity was still too small. Because of the distance, many of the hotel guest take the bus transport, but many couldn't transported. So they have to wait a long time for the next bus or take an expensive paid taxi.

"Great Hotel Great Price"
Plus: Great Hotel Wonderful Rooms (Air Conditioned)nice Outdoor Pool and Fantastic Breakfast included in our package but check--breakfast is expensive if not included)Very nice hotel -Free Parking out back of Hotel Negative :Far from city--you will need a car Hotel Bus is full on last two evenings runs and may strand you....
"Need detailed directions to find this outstanding hotel."
The personnel were extremely helpful and caring. We received an upgraded room and were very happy with the comfortable, quiet accommodations. An employee helped clear up an Autostrada toll ticket problem we had by phoning them and describing our problem of an unread ticket to them in Italian. Only trouble we had was finding the hotel, since we didn't […] have a GPS in our car. Luckily, we accidentally fell onto the right street during the daylight hours. If you don't have GPS, you must have a detailed description of how to get there. Read more
"Amazing Room - Terrible Location/Shuttle"
We were extremely impressed with our spacious room and the friendly hotel staff were amazingly helpful. The major problems we had with our stay was the hotel location. Make sure you call the hotel to get specific instructions on how to get to the hotel - it is not accessible from the Metro directly. Additionally, the hotel has a free shuttle to get […] into the city of Rome since the hotel is outside the perimeter. This sounds wonderful but our experience with the shuttle was not. It was easy to take the shuttle into the city, but we were not able to ride the shuttle back to the hotel because it was too full and other hotel guests pushed and shoved to get onto the shuttle. If you take the shuttle into the city do not expect to catch it coming back! We had to take the Metro to the last station, walk about 2 miles to get to a taxi stand, and then pay another 12 euro to get back to the hotel - not a fun experience. Luckily, our room had a full bath so it was a good way to blow off the steam of that portion of the stay. Read more

"Lovely Hotel"
This is a lovely hotel. The shuttle bus was very convenient for getting into the city, but did get very busy and early arrival to the bus stop is advisable. For leaving the city a car is needed really, although public transort is very cheap. The pool was ideal and the hotel was clean and pleasant.

"A little too far away..."
Great hotel, but a little too far from the city center. The shuttle only runs every 75 minutes. If we weren't standing in line about 20-30 minutes before the departure time, we were unlikely to get a spot on the bus. Great deal for the quality of the hotel, but if we did it again, we'd probably stay closer to the center of Rome.
"Excellent hotel for the price"
The hotel was absolutely wonderful. The beds were comfortable. The bathrooms were clean. The hotel staff was always courteous and spoke several languages. They had no problem organizing cabs for us to travel into the city at night. The shuttle was extremely convenient. The only downside was the location, do not bother trying to find it yourself... take […] a cab. Read more
"Great Hotel"
Hotel was great. We didn't find it too cumbersome to take the hourly shuttle into downtown Rome. Shuttle drops right near the Vatican and next to the Metro station. Very convenient.
"Good Quality Hotel"
Not quite what would be expected of a hotel in the USA, but superior to what you would expect in Europe.
"Great, not perfect."
The Good: Free shuttle service to the heart of Rome (and back). Nice looking as you enter. Professional staff. AC was working well. The Bad: Pool was under repair. You can't just buy a coffee, you have to get the whole breakfast. No shuttle service to the Airport.
"shuttle base makes this feasible"
Nice hotel, clean, very helpful staff, particularly Federica! Rock hard beds (pretty common in Europe). Better breakfast than 95% of Europe. Shuttle bus travels every hour or so between the hotel and a metro stop, on a printed schedule, reliably. Have to be in line at least half hour early every early and late to compete for a seat...or no ride. About […] a 20 minute, 15 Euro cab ride to/from that station, if you can find one. Took us 20 minutes 1 night to hail one when we couldn't get a seat. The last bus is 10pm which means you need to be there by 9:30, which means you need to leave where you're at by 9pm for the metro...not at all convenient, and limiting to your vacation. Stay in Rome and pay a little more...how often do you get to go there??? The hotel is itself a good value otherwise. Read more
"Lovely hotel, but inconveniently far from downtown"
The hotel was very comfortable and clean. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful and most spoke good English. The restaurant was expensive and limited in selection. What we ordered was good. The breakfast buffet (included in the rate) was superb! The bus into town was convenient but ran only 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours; it deposited you within walking distance […] of the Vatican and St. Peter's Square. Be aware that U.S. (120 volt) appliances will not work with their 220 volt current, the hotel did not have converters to borrow, and I did not find converters to buy in Rome. Internet cost 10 Euros for 40 minutes, and there was no free connection for printing airport boarding passes. My wife was sick while we were there, and we very much appreciated having a pleasant room and hotel for our stay. Read more
"Free Transport to City a great value"
The value you get with the free transport to Rome (3 blocks from Vatican) makes the stay here well worth any price you might pay.(Taxi would cost about $30-40 Euros) They use a luxury bus that is always on time and drops you at a most convenient location. Not only close to the Vatican, but right by the rail system. The front staff was very nice. Rooms […] very clean. If you are older be careful of the showers as the tub is very slippery. Beds are on the extra firm side, but linens, etc, very nice. Building & grounds quiet, clean and comfortable. Compared to downtown Rome's mostly antiquated and cramped hotel rooms this hotel is far superior. Read more
"Out of the way but OK."
This hotel is classy, yes, but miles from the beaten track of things to see in Roma. All is saved by their shuttle though. If you get there early enough to get a seat. Some guests had to find alternate means of getting to the subway station. Plan on a 30 Euro ride from the main train station and 40 Euros to the airport by taxi.
"Thank God for the Shuttle"
We got a great deal on the room rate by booking for multiple days on line. The hotel is not centrally located to the city of Rome however they have a luxury bus that picks people up at the hotel at roughly ten different times every day and takes you to the Octaviano subway station which is within walking distance from the Vatican and St. Peter's Basilica. […] From the drop off location you can either walk or take the subway to visit different spots. An all day subway pass is only 4 euros per day. Just make sure that you arrive about 15 or so minutes early when you are catching the hotel bus because at times, it can fill up quickly. The bus will also pick people up from the drop off spot and take them back to the hotel. I believe that the last pickup time to return to the hotel is 11:00PM. Make sure to get a map from the front desk. It will show the approximate location of different sites and whether or not they are close to specific subway stops. Without the shuttle bus Melia would be a tough sell due to its location but with it, this hotel was a bargain for the price we paid. The rooms were nice and the staff was very friendly for the most part. It is also relatively close to the airport Read more
"Great Hotel"
Beautiful hotel. Beds were very hard, so if you are used to a softer bead, you will not rest well. Only complaint was the attitude of the shuttles drivers. They will not wait if you are one minute late even if the shuttle is empty. Drinks at the bar are very expensive. The breakfast was awesome.
"Needs Improvement"
Our water kept switching from hot to cold in the shower, the air conditioning didn't work well, and the bed was hard.
"Great Hotel for the Money"
Hotel was very clean and room was very nice. Hotel staff was very helpful and accomodating. The only negative to our stay was that the location is far from all attractions. The hotel offers a free shuttle to the train station but its schedule is once every hr. or hour and a half. The bus could not accomodate all the people waiting and therefore was […] annoying. We had to get on line 40 minutes before the schedule to get a seat and we had to wait excessively long to get back at night. Read more
"excellent hotel"
we booked two rooms for the family. The service and cleanliness were outstanding.Staff were very polite and helpful. Breakfast buffet was excellent for the price we paid. It is a little out of the city center but they provide a very comfortable shuttle to the train station octaviano. Everything closes in the city by 7 pm. So it was not a problem. One […] review stated the mattress was hard but they were the most comfortable after a full day of walking. No back pain.we will stay there again if we go back to Rome. Read more
"Good value"
Hotel has courteous, helpful staff and an above average full breakfast offering so the breakfast inclusive rate is well worth the money. Dinner is the dining room should be tried as it is definitely above the average fare you get in a hotel and includes a good wine list. Shuttle bus was always on time but we did have one occassion when it was full and […] we had to wait over an hour for the next bus. Cab from bus drop off back to the hotel averages 12 -15 euros. Guest rooms need a little updating (carpet and furniture) but were clean and the bathroom was spot on. Overall a good experience. Read more
"Great Hotel"
Great Hotel, But Hard Beds.
"Excellent"
Outside the city but the hotel provide shuttle service from 8:00AM through 11:00 PM every day from the hotel to attravanno metro station. the Metro station is 5 minutes walk to the Vatican. If you're playing to Rome take the shuttle bus to Rome Termini station then the metro to attravanno metro station and take the hotel shuttle bus or take the metro […] all the way to cornelia station and then take the taxi to the hotel. It will save you a bundle on Taxi cab. The taxi driver will try to rip you off if you're not smart. Read more

Read more
