The hotel is in a good location and close to the train station. The lobby is nice, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was good. The room however was starting to show its age. This hotel is very good for the price. Rooms are comfortable, clean, and the building is secure. It is also very easy to find. About a 30 minute walk in one direction will get you to most places that a tourist is likely to want to be. Plenty of shopping, eating, and people watching is also available within a block of the facility.

This seems pretty nice for a hotel in the Ukraine. Free internet, centrally located, fairly comfortable bed, great view of the city. I didn't look for them but I didn't notice any hookers hanging out in the bar, mostly just young men. Very friendly desk staff and bell hops.

If you stay here - request a room not facing the front street - extremely noisy until very late (2 AM or after) and early in the morning. The room was fine, front desk spoke English, I would stay there again if I was in that same area.

The hotel room was just as I had imagined, the room was small, but i wasn't in Kyiv for the hotel. I wanted and got a clean comfortable room at a great price. The breakfast is a good variety of Ukrainian food as welll as basic breakfast items. The hotel staff was helpful and most spoke English fairly well. I would stay there again.

Overall, I had a very good experience at Hotel Lybid. The Hotel was clean and I thought was fairly priced. They also had a wonderful restaurant and I ate at the breakfast buffet every morning. The staff there was quite friendly and gave good service. Lybid looks and feels like a typical soviet era building. We had a suite, so there was plenty of room, and the maid service kept the room clean and well supplied. Included breakfast buffet is sizable, and just about anyone can find something they can eat there. Restaurant was decent. That about sums up the good news. Front desk staff is "soviet friendly", […] which means not very. People in the on-site currency exchange were flat out nasty, but fortunately they were almost always on a break, or out of local currency, so interaction was limited. We had a queen size bed, but with the exception of the fitted sheet, all other bedding is for a single, so we both had our own covers. Shower is raised up, and could be dangerous for older guests or people with limited mobility or the less agile. Room safe did not work, nor would they fix it. Hotel sports bar is also the entrance to a "gentleman's club", and the "talent" hangs out in the bar trying to drum up business. Overall, you get what you pay for here. Rooms are ok, think of a clean Motel 6 or similar hotel with an uncomfortable bed. Don't expect much, but rooms were clean, and location was suitable for our needs. If you aren't looking for luxury, and can live with the other items listed above, you could do a lot worse. Read more

Standard Eastern European/former Soviet Union hotel. Nothing special to write home about (not even the so-so strip club in the lobby). Decent service, friendly staff. One word of caution, you will be approached by hookers in the hotel bar, but that is not all that uncommon for this part of Europe.

Decent experience. Standard Room was modest but adequate for one night's stay. Very convenient to the Train Station. Decent Sushi restaurant nearby as well as several cafes and coffee shops. Overall was not disappointed and would stay again.

The hotel is fine for a quick trip. The decor is clean if a little tired. As it seems with all hotels in ex-Soviet countries it was far too hot. The reception staff spoke perfect English, but the room service staff did not. I can't fault the hotel for this as I should speak better Russian or Ukrainian! Plenty of attractive working girls from the club […] next door in the hotel bar, but I wasn't hassled. The breakfast food was plentiful and included in the pretty good rate I managed to get. The fare from the hotel to Boryspil airport was 150h (£15) using Skytaxis booked through reception. I will be returning later in the year and I will be using Hotel Lybid again. Read more

Air conditioning didn't work properly - when on, in January, the room was like and oven, whatever the temperature setting. The duvet was smaller than the bed, so barely adequate for one person. The breakfast was dreadful, with very little for Western European tastes. Reception was very off-hand - when asked for a razor as my US electric wouldn't work […] (no 110 V sockets), they suggested buying one in the nearby shopping mall: in fact, the souvenir shop opposite reception sold razors. The laundry was unbelievably expensive. The lobby bar is a front for resident prostitutes who accost anyone going into the bar - very unpleasant, as was the very bad red wine produced from a bottle that must have been opened for several months. Overall I would recommend this hotel. The room was large and spotless, reception smart, and location was fine...near to the main train station, and the underground. Breakfast not great but I suspect this is the same in most Ukranian hotels.

Clean, good service, great breakfast, surprisingly fast and free wireless in room (seems to ramp down for around 30 min about 8 pm). Location is very convenient with many shops and restaurants around the hotel. 20 minute walk or 5 min taxi ride to downtown tourist area.

Checking in was smooth and quick. Same checking out. Room was ok, nothing special but clean. Best thing - hotel is located in heart of Kyiv. There is only one bad thing I can say - the shower water was cold all the time.

An average hotel for a short stay. Not really suitable for families. Hotel needs to be upgraded especially the rooms - has the feeling of a 1970s UK motel, but perfectly good for a short business or leisure trip.
