Nouvel - Barcelona

Great Location if you are looking to be where the action is. Near Placa Catalunya and Las Ramblas. The rooms were very spacious but the beds were hard as a rock. I stayed one night after the cruise and it was tolerable based on the location proximity to great shopping. Would definitely stay again in my next trip.

My husband and I stayed at the Nouvel in Barcelona a few years ago and recommended it to several others who stayed there as well. We were so disappointed this time. The men at the front desk were unfriendly; although they showed us where to store our luggage until the room was ready, they offered no help with it; same when we left, my husband had to […] move other heavy luggage to get ours. The hotel is a great location; but the beds are the hardest I have ever slept and the noise in the hotel is more than from the street. Barcelona is a late night city; but the walls are paper thin and the floors are so hard that you can hear everything. And, I mean everything. For business, I would never stay in this hotel again. I would recommend that you bring towels and pillows with you, as theirs are somewhat undersized and not too comfy. We absolutely LOVED the Nouvel hotel in Barcelona. It is so centrally located near the plaza Catalunya (metro station, bus stops, airport bus stop are all there) as well as the Ramblas and other main streets filled with great shops, restaurants, bakeries etc. We could walk to the beach, the city park, some of the Gaudi buildings as well as the Picaso […] museum and cathedral from the hotel. The staff was super helpful and the rooms were very large compared with other european rooms we have stayed in. We almost didn't book this hotel due to poor reviews we had read about the hard mattresses / uncomfortable beds but they have been replacing the mattresses and we had very comfortable beds. Hotel is very close to Plaza de Catalunya and Las Ramblas. Perfect location to explore all the sites. Took the Aerobus from the airport to Plaza de Catalunya the last stop and walked to the hotel (5 min) very convenient. Roberto was wonderful! very helpful and friendly. There was a charge to use the safe in the room and needed a 20 Euro deposit for the TV remote control. Our overall stay was good. The location was great. The staff and cleanliness was superb. The bed and pillows were not very comfortable, however, and forget sleeping in. Room is very quiet and close to LaRambla. They call Taxi to pick us to airport in the eral morning (3:30Am). If my flight is not so early, I can take the Bus which run from Catalaya (2 block away) to airport. So the location is great.

The hotel charging for use of safe & WiFi made me feel as if I was "nickel & dimed" for services always included in this category hotel. Hotel Nouvel is a great deal if your willing to put up with all of the problems associated with a low end hotel. Hotels in Barcelona run a bit more than the rest of spain. This means that if you wish to get a nice hotel you will have to pay a bit more. It's not that Nouvel is a bad place to stay. It's probably best suited to the younger traveler on […] a budget. The entry is a bit awkward. The front desk staff is kurt and I found them to me only slightly helpful which is not good compared to the outstanding service we received in the rest of spain. The rooms are dated and smallish. The bathrooms are newly renovated which is nice but the shower gets hot everytime someone flushed the toilet. The TV remotes cost money to rent because they do not trust you with them so it's not provided in your room. THERE IS NO FREE WIFI etc. The beds were hard but we still managed to sleep somewhat well. The hotel itself is a bit off the beaten path which means it's tough to find but it is in a good location. All in all it was good but I feel like next time i'm going to spring for a nicer place. I found the Nouvel to be a good value for the money. The room was small, but well equipped and clean, and I was alone. It's very close to the Catalunya metro station, which I used every day to get around the city (both business and touring). The desk staff was responsive to all my requests, but not overly friendly either (except one woman who was very […] kind when I desperately needed coffee before any of the cafes were open). The hotel is located just off la Rambla, which is great, but also means there are some seedy aspects. I had to walk back to the hotel well past midnight a couple of times and was astounded at the aggression of some "working girls" along the Rambla. We were looking for a mid-range hotel, to stay at while visiting Barcelona after a cruise. This is a gem: perfectly restored marble floors, sconces, hand-carved ceiling work, everything. The Nouvel is a very short distance off of La Rambla, near Catalunya Plaza, close to the Gothic area with many attractions. The Metro is very close by. Very comfortable and the staff are very accomodating. We initially booked one night but ended up staying four more nights with our family of five.
