We had an upgraded room (jr. suite) so it was very comfortable; but the bathroom was very tiny. After we asked for a second blanket we got it (one only covered one person). In general, hotel was good. And a very good location. I don't think they should charge for the internet now-a-days -especially in an upgraded room. Excellent buffet breakfast.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very Soviet including required bribes/ corruption"
I decided to stay here because I wanted a real Ukranian / Soviet experience, and this hotel is from that era. It doesn't have the western influence as obviously the American hotels do based on historical context and the foundation of the hotel when this was still the Soviet Union. I liked that my breakfast was Soviet. I liked that the rooms were Soviet. However, […] what I didn't like was having to pay ransom fees almost every day. I traveled to Kiev with my girlfriend. Anyway we both would come back after 11pm, the Security guy by the elevator wouldn't let us go up. "No girl after 11pm." This is obviously to prevent the wrong crowd... I understand that. But when she shows her own security card, and her ID, I feel like that shouldn't have been issue (actually, I don't think it should have been an issue in the first place... she was greatly insulted every day.) While we discussed this the first time, he stopped another two. The two were Russian-speaking, and the guy just handed him some money, and the Security guy let them up to their room. Right in front of us. I kid you not. I had to get in his face, push him away, and take the elevator up. Another time, another employee said that someone had dropped a small travel bag with hundreds of Euros just in front of me, and accused me of taking it. There never was any person who dropped cash. He demanded to see everything in my jacket, or he would call the police. It was a total scam... because they know travelers sometimes travel with lots of cash. I only had pounds, so wrong country for this little game of his. You lose. I know the city center location is tempting. And if you want a true Soviet experience, including having to bribe people and constant corruption, then be my guest. But if you want to enjoy your time in Kiev, stay at another hotel. Considering their other corruption, this "4 star" rating was probably gamed. There is NO WAY this is a 4 star hotel... they'd have to clean the place up to get a 2 anywhere els Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Typical Soviet style hotel"
If you have stayed in a Soviet style hotel before - then you will be totally fine with this hotel. If not - then you will be very dissapointed. Old, run down, uncomfortable bed. BUT - great location - and for the price - a deal. But be warned - this is the real thing - Soviet style hotel! Not a four star as they try to be - more like a 2 star. Rooms […] are clean - just very old and in need of a major overhaul. Nice breakfast which is included in the cost. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel Dnipro Kiev"
I had one of the renovated rooms and it was satisfactory, only thing was that the heating did not work at all even after I changed rooms. Also in the first room I did not get any hot water, and both issues were a problem since it was early April and cold outside. The staff was helpful enough and I got a heater in the room plus hot water was working […] properly once I had made the switch. Internet is $10 (USD) for two hours and I found that extremely expensive, as well as using the gym for $20 per visit unless one goes there before noon. The gym itself needs a renovation, but at least you can get cardio done on the treadmill. You can't beat the location, although I was bothered by street noise all through the night, even if I was in the 8th floor where one would think that it would be quiet enough. Hotel restaurant is good and it's located on the 12th floor with a nice view, but the lobby bar is very overpriced. Everything you'd want to see is within convenient walking distance. Overall I think the hotel was a good value for the price, but I did not enjoy the extra charges (internet, gym) which should be complimentary and included in the room rates. Staff was good and spoke English, and the hotel is very clean and safe. I might mention that I am an airline captain by profession and I travel for a living. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Location - Great hotel"
The hotel is right on the corner of the main street in Kiev, The room was very clean and spacious. The hotel had no problem sorting travel arrangements back to the airport. Would 100% try and stay here next time I come to Kiev. Very highly recommended.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Acceptable but with many issues."
Certainly not a four star as claimed and more like three. Breakfast was reasonable but I wouldn't have eaten other meals there. Wireless internet was often unreliable and slow. A/C worked OK in most rooms but the corridors were very hot. Beds were hard and I had issues sleeping. Hotel fittings were OK but sometimes shabby and worn with exposed wireing […] and the like. Hotel staff varied between helpful and rude (ignoring guests at reception). Often with a limited grasp of English they seemed unable or unwilling to do simple things like order a taxi when I checked out. There are probably better hotels in Kiev. "Maybe bettter after renovation finished"
We booked the the best room that was showed on the 12th floor, and to say the least it was in need of renovation. It looks like it was last renovated in the 70s. Location was great though.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Right in the heart of the city"
We were very apprehensive when we booked this hotel but as soon as we arrived we knew we had made a good choice. Apart from the reception staff everyone was very friendly and helpful. Our Junior Suite was clean and well presented as was the entire hotel. We used room service on 3 occassions and each time the service was speedy and efficient. The hotel […] has 3 restaurants and we tried them all. The menu is varied, the wine list is comprehensive and the service was excellent. Oh! and the food was good also. The hotel offers everything you would expect for 4 stars, swimming pool, gym and beauty treatments, 24hr room service etc. Whilst the food & drinks prices were higher than the local bars and restaurants they were not excessive and at no time did we feel we were being ripped off. The hotel is close to most of the main shopping streets and tourist attractions in fact we never felt the need to call a taxi. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel and would not think twice about rebooking. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, food fine, windows draughty"
OK - food good, location and neighbourhood excellent. Windows in room a little draughty. General condition of hotel okGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is in a great location very close to the centre square. It is a soviet era construction so it has a nice kitsch about the rooms.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not bad, but over-rated at 4 stars!"
Great location, but that's about it. How Dnipro rates a 4 out of 5 is beyond me. Before booking I read that most rooms were recently renovated, and some have an excellent view. The hotel was not full, but at reception (330pm) they told me neither an updated room nor one with a view were available. I received a room with a view to a courtyard full of […] trash, surrounded by run-down buildings with broken windows. My room was modest. I give this hotel two stars. The hotel does have amenities, though, like a restaurant, wifi, a pool that I did not see, and a pianist who plays at breakfast. I suppose this is why it's considered 4 stars. Not a good value in Kiev, however. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good central location"
the hotel is in a good central location, with lots of local attractions within easy walking distance. I had a single room, reasonably well fitted, and kept clean. Breakfast was buffet style, in rather lavish room, complete with resident pianist, with plenty of choice, and as much as you wanted. Food in the Panorama restaurant was good, with western […] European style cuisine, and the view from the 12th floor was excellent. The ground floor cafe bar could do with some soft furnishings to make it more welcoming and relaxing, but other than this great location, and would certainly stay there again. "Great location, poor room"
If you just want a place to rest your head, Hotel Dnipro is fine. The location is great, right next to Independence Square. However, don't be fooled by the grandeur of the reception, the rooms are very poor and basic with old furniture. Not a place for a romantic weekend!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
All ok just the guy playing the piano at breakfast is a bit much. I had a headache two mornings in a row and that is the last thing you want to hear !!AndyGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Basic but comfortable"
Hotel is basic but comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. Good value for money and within walking distance of most of the main sights in Kiev. Some of the old soviet fittings remain (e.g.the dysfunctional radio built into the room) but this added to the experience!Genuine Expedia guest review
"take note of taxi scam"
Good location. Excellent buffet breakfasts with old world charm of piano player while you eat. The normal rate for a taxi to the airport should be about 23 dollars US according to friends who live there, but if you ask the hotel to call you a cab (because none are usually out front), they ask you to pay them directly the equivalent of approximately […] 48 dollars. When the driver comes, he goes to the counter and the clerk disappears with him to give the driver his "take." A bit of a turnoff. Hopefully, they'll get it right in 10 years. "Definitely NOT a four star hotel..."
I really hate to give negative reviews of hotels, but unfortunately there really is little to recommend at the Dnipro. The decor is crumbling, the bed was one of the most uncomfortable I've ever slept in, even the curtains were a metre narrower than the window, allowing light to flood into the room from the giant illuminated billboard outside. Trash […] collection took place at 2am each morning creating so much noise that I though construction work was taking place. TV channels were all local, and the pay-per-view movies were expensive and out of date, but that's about all you can expect for entertainment as you'll give up on the wifi after about 5 minutes. If you're travelling with a laptop make sure you take a few dvds with you! On the plus side, the room was clean, and I can recommend the sausage and chips from the London Pub next door (turn right, not left, or you'll find yourself in the strip club!). Also, if you're travelling for football, Dynamo Kiev's stadium is right across the road (this is NOT a venue for Euro 2012 though). I believe the hotel is undergoing refurbishment but currently this only seems to apply to the expensive rooms (which are the ones pictured here). If you're staying in the budget rooms, it's not a particularly great experience, I'm afraid. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Location is very good for all main attractions Door staff aren't particularly friendly and the hotel is defininitely not a four star hotel. The hotel, is what you would expect, for a normal European class hotel. The location is excellent. The safe in the room, and ATM machine in the lobby were something that many hotels in Europe lack. "Good Overnight Stay"
Hotel Dnipro's central location is its ace card. For an overnight stay in Kiev it put me right on the main street, within walking distance of a park, the river, St. Andrew's cathedral. "Very bad hotel, don't be fooled by the location"
This was a bad experience for me - I understand that the hotel was built in 1968 - the room looked like there was no improvement since then. "Hotel Dnipro (Kiev): Okay but not outstanding"
The best thing about the hotel was the buffet breakfast: lots of selections (I'm vegetarian, my husband is not): 4 salads, array of cut vegetables, choice of yogurts & cereals, assortment of teas, wide range of hot foods. The pastries, though, were dry and tasteless (to be fair, we found this throughout Ukraine and Russia: perhaps they don't use butter […] or salt in their baking? Perhaps they are buying day-old from an outside bakery?). The first night, our room was so hot we could not sleep; could not find controls for air conditioning. When I asked the front desk (less than friendly folk) about it the following morning, I was told that "that room does not have air conditioning". I replied that the internet had advertised a/c and I had paid for a room that I assumed had a/c. After a brief pause, the clerk offered to move us to another room with a/c, which he did. So I cannot fault them for being unresponsive. As other "posters" on this site have mentioned, the rooms are a bit dated (old wallpaper, cracked hardwood floors). But they were clean, which is more important to me. We just use the room to sleep and don't spend much time there, so it was fine with us. Hint: Just around the corner and not to be missed is the Museum of Ukrainian Art: the best collection of religious icons we've seen anywhere in the world---outstanding. Highly recommended, even if you think you don't like religious art. Hint: The Kiev Ballet is exceptional---precise dancing, glorious costumes and sets, a true "must" if you are in the city. Closing thought: Always agree on a price with the cab driver first; we were ripped off time and time again: when travelling with Ukrainian-speaking friends, we paid 38H; the return trip (alone), we paid 100H. 100H seemed to be the standard rate regardless of the length of our brief journeys. (One day, we hired a driver to take us to a number of various locations. His price, including gas, driving, and wait times: 100H per hour!!!) Terceira vez no hotel.
