Never gonna stay their again. "Wonderful facility with something for everyone!"
We had a great time here but the only thing I would caution anyone about is the dreaded Time Share push. From the moment we checked in, we were bombarded with staff wanting to "talk to us over breakfast" about purchasing a Time Share. Anyone who pays their hard-earned money for a vacation should not have to sit and listen to a sales pitch. The other […] "reality check" I would share is with regards to the Wild Tiger Buggy's Excursion. This was billed to us as a "5 hour excursion" where you drive the buggy's to a private beach, then to a coffee and cigar plantation, and then for a dip in the underground cave. HOWEVER, what they didn't bother to share is that it was an hour commute each way with less than two hours of actual driving. The "stops" are actually opportunities for the locals to sell their goods. The first one was ok, but then we they were at every stop it became annoying. "Quick trip to paradise"
When we arrived to the room, we were disappointed as it did not look like the pictures we have seen on this website. We spent the first night there and so then I complained on the need of internet access in the room and I was given an upgrade to a room with an extra $20.00/night as to be provided with internet. The room came along with a better looking […] and a Jacuzzi, plus a HD TV. The internet connection and the TV did not work for the first night and the hotel then did not charge me for the upgrade for the 2 nights we had over there. On top of it I also got a credit for a phone call I have made and the fee for the use of the safe for the duration of the four days and three nights we stayed there. "Royal service needs new receptionists!"
I have been here 3 times and I will never return! It is easy to say that it doesn't matter how great the hotel rooms and facilities are, when you have multiple bad experiences with receptionists which seem to get worse with every trip! In many occasions I call royal service reception for any of many reasons and have to dial 3 or 4 times because nobody […] picks up, and when they do I am given an attitude as if I'm bothering! I have walked in to the reception area and they are in their own little world either on their cell phone or playing games on the computer! As I'm having a meal at the gaby I have overheard in many occasions other guests wondering just like I am why are these receptionist still here if from what we see on blogs all over that they are a problem! I stayed here for the 1st time 2 yrs ago and fell in love, that changed when I revisited last yr! everything is so great but these receptionist just ruin your vibe no matter what! I love the food at all restaurants, the overall staff of the resort except for these receptionists are amazing. I call for transportation which is included with royal service and it never arrives, I ask a wandering driver to take me and make conversation and he says the call for pickup for anyone was not made in the last hr, which means the receptionist never made the call to the drivers which work off these calls for tips!!! And the cultural milieu is wonderfully represented in the spontaneous smiles of the staff and the history of the country. They know that tourism is their livelihood and they care for you. The staff was accommodating and the food was excellent!! Our room was pretty standard but the bathroom itself was a bit dated. The resort is very big and if you want to have easy access to the pool and beach you should be in buildings 1-6 and 15 and 16. There is a train that takes you around the resort to the restaurants but it comes every 10-15 minutes. Beautiful resort , great beach and pools. Huge property with lots of flowers, trees and exotic birds. Flamingos , peacocks, etc. Beach and ocean is wonderful. Great for families with kids. The next day had to argue with 2 more managers and only after threatening to never go back and tell Expedia about them did they fix the problem. We upgraded to the royal service suites, which were nice but I wouldn't do it again. I was disappointed on how other people who were in the regular rooms were able to be in our private pool. It seems as though no one really checked or cared. I paid an extra $1900.00 for the royal service which in my opinion was not worth it. Alex is number 1 , he is just a very nice guy who always checked in with us to make sure we were doing ok. He found out my 19 yr.,old daughters birthday was coming up and took it upon himself to decorate her room with balloons and rose pedals @ his own expense. "Not worth the price - others better"
Terrible hotel. The a/c unit in the first room assigned to me did not properly cool the room. I set the temperature at the equivalent of 60 degrees farenheit. It failed to cool properly. It was warm. Yet, I was told it was normal (unbelievable). I asked for another room. After insisting, 3 hours later, I finally got another room. Same problem. Then […] I realized that it appears all rooms may have the problem, as rooms of other family members there had the same issue. Age appears to be the problem. Also, the food is plenty, but without the great taste that you would expect - at best, bland. Overall, go somewhere else - for around the same price, we were at a better resort last year. This hotel is beautiful when you drive up and see the landscaping, fountains, palm trees and outstanding lobby. Once you check in, however, you will see a different side of the resort. Pros--drinks at check-in, beautiful lobby and surrounding lounging areas, nice staff, beach, free drinks/food. Cons-confusing layout, without a map you will get lost, […] you have to wander around the main lobbies in order to locate bathrooms, small business center with no printing capability (for boarding passes), roads and walking paths are crowded with various motorized vehicles that emit strong fuel smells, sales people are constantly trying to get you to buy/rent water sports equipment, upgrade to Royal Service etc., no washcloths in rooms, mattress was old--We could feel the springs poking us, very limited wifi unless you pay extra, rooms could use a makeover, old tvs in rooms, rooms lack any tv programming guide and hotel information, there is one place to get beach towels and you have to sign them out, but only for 24 hours or you may be fined $25/towel, beach and pool chairs fill up fast--people save them by placing their towel on them early in the day only to show up 3-4 hours later. My experience was not quite what I expected. Getting off the plane, I had to walk to the customs area in hot, humid weather. Some passengers arriving on other airlines were picked up by a shuttle. I was herded, yes I do mean herded into a small area with hundreds of other passengers, no air conditioning for about an hour on so to pay a $10.00 entry […] fee into the country.(It was hot No, one advised me of this fee beforehand, my fellow travelers did not know about it either. My hotel was nice, but my inability to speak Spanish and the employees at the hotel inability to speak English hindered my ability to take full advantage of the resort. I had to request wash clothes and it took them from 10:00 am -6:00 pm to bring them. The air conditioning was never quite cool enough. It only rained for about […] 20 minutes late one afternoon. Otherwise, blue skies and warm weather. Special recognition to our concierges, Eddie and Abel, they were fantastic!!!! Very nice men, they shuttled us to dinner every night in a golf cart, helped with dinner reservations, and had a taxi ready for us after check-out. Bladimir in Gabi is also great! There is also a lady that works the Gabi pool drink service, I can't remember her name to save my life. She has beautiful light green eyes. Very friendly and always attentive. Also the lady that works the VIP lounge drink service at night. Super nice, and makes a great dirty vodka martini. Some of the food was great, some ok, but we expected that with an all inclusive resort. The Thai, Gabi, French, and Italian were all great. It's true what people said about the drink service at the buffet on the beach. Terrible. We asked 3 different guys for Sprite and it never came. "Great Hotel !"
Absoutley great resort. Hotel staff was very kinda and attentive to our needs. All inclusive was great very good restaurants , alcohol was a little week but I drank beer and was fine with that. Beautiful resort very well kept, staff constantly cleaning. Beach and pool area where great we asked for a room close to the pool , beach and the hotel staff […] accommodated us. "Some training is needed for staff"
I was taken aback about the UNfriendliness of the staff. I understand completely about the lack of English spoken. I could deal with that, although we didn't have any problem with currency. They always seemed to have American currency. But back to the unfriendly staff. I have never been to a place when the staff didn't greet you with a smile. We got […] exactly 2 smiles the whole time we were there!! It was like their guests were burdens to them. Seems to me that if you're in the resort business, your FIRST order of business is the greet everyone with a smile. The staff that did speak English were not exactly helpful either. I was very surprised at this. and disappointed. I was there to relax and have fun. The demeanor of the staff did not make for a relaxing time because you didn't know if you were going to be scowled at for asking a question. Oh and the room we stayed was so outdated. "Not a good hotel"
Good location but beach was not. Lear as oppose to beach by Hard Rock. Customer service was HORRIBLE. Restaurants fully staffed however one had to get up to serve themselves or had to get up to look for a waiter. Rooms were not comfortable and were not the nicest.
