"Great hotel - don't forget about the dress code"
Great place, very friendly staff. Fantastic scotch selection at the bar (84!) Don't forget about the dress code. No denim if you stay in the lobby/lounge for tea or the bar or the billiard room. No t-shirts, no sneakers, no jackets with a name on them and...no cell phones!! Yeah! a victory for silence! Fine for me but some might find it stuffy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

The staff and rooms were terrific, but the real treat was the FOOD! The breakfast is unlike any hotel breakfast you have ever had! Try to stay for dinner too. The Beef Bourguignonne and Beef Tenderloin was wonderful! Next time in Victoria, count on us being your happy guests.Genuine Expedia guest review

"in the centre"
The club ambience, service, and food is outstanding. The room smallish, but comfortable and quiet. Bathroom needed work, but lots of room and heated separately, unlike most hotels. Excellent toiletries and plenty of plush towels. Note there is a no jeans dress code past the reception area. However, knowing that, it ought not to be a problem for most […] traveller's. The included breakfast is terrific, with wonderful and varied menu. Excellent coffee and tea are always available near reception. Having a coffee while reading the morning paper in the reading room is an experience not to be missed. Off site, secure parking is available nearby at a very reasonable rate and is not inconvenient. Overall, great value with a terrific staff in a great location Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Exclusive feel and great location"
The Union Club is a private members' club, not a traditional hotel, so it felt different than any place I have stayed. While it comes with some trade-offs (dress code in the lounge and restaurant, for example), the service is friendly, the rooms are unique in an antique sort of way, and the included breakfast, prepared by the club's restaurant, is the […] best I've ever had included with a room. "Historical and classical but very convenient"
This was my very first time to stay a hotel with over 100 years history. Bathroom was a bit small but the bed and resting area were very comfy. The staffs were super friendly and helpful. The most I like is the elevator and the complimentary breakfast. They just gave me a good and memorable experience.Genuine Expedia guest review

"The next best thing to being a member..."

One of the oldest, still beautiful buildings in lovely downtown Victoria, I had had occasion to dine there once a few years ago, as a guest of the Lieutenant Governor Stephen Pointe (ok, there were about 30 other guests, too, but still, it was an honour). I was delighted to discover that this private club has a few hotel rooms that it rents to, well, anyone--even me! I stay in Victoria a few times a year-- usually at The Chateau (see my reviews), but I fancied a change, and the chance to see inside the beautiful building again. I was not disappointed. From the kind and friendly counter staff to the efficient and calm breakfast server, the cordial nods of the members, to the solicitous and polite chamber staff, this may be my new "go to" hotel....in fact I've already reserved a room for my trip next week. I guess there is nothing there you can't find in other elegant hotels, but to me it was absolutely magical being steeped in all that history-- I felt a bit like I'd snuck into Hogwarts or something. I would recommend the Union Club for anyone who wanted a quiet get-away. Definitely secure for a woman traveling alone, and terrific value, even before you consider the complimentary coffee and tea (real tea pots!) and breakfast (eggs benedict, available on grilled tomato instead of english muffin, with spinach and chevre-- fantastic). I suppose the one drawback is the parking--prepare to walk a couple of blocks, but there is an easy to get to courtesy spot right out front to unload/load up). There is probably a level entry for disabled guests, I imagine, but there is a gorgeous stone stairway leading up to the main entrance. The location is unbeatable, however, and I can't wait to be back.... Although I am staying for business, even when I travel for pleasure, I don't tend to grub around in jeans and a T-Shirt. If that is your standard attire, you might want to be sure you review the dress code. If you are the sort of person who is offended by tradition and standards, and who thinks private clubs are snobby, this is not the destination for you. If you are open to wonderful, unexpected surprises and think dressing up is a treat, perhaps I'll see you on the elevator (oh... the elevator alone is worth the stay.....)

What a great venue for our annual MahJongg Retreat!! We all agree there isn't a better choice than our own private club: a luxurious suite to set up our tiles for hours of uninterrupted play; excellent food and drink choices from the McGregor Room lunch and dinner menus and the club wine list; such comfortable bedrooms to eventually retire to; and delicious breakfasts. Such a wonderful experience...perhaps we should do this spring AND fall!?!
"Old time style with Moderen amnities- Geat Location"

We came to Victoria to celebrate our annual Company New Year Christmas Party. We were lucky to get the last Room at the Union Club. The location is amazing. The room has been cozy and beautiful - set in an old-fashioned style, but with all the modern amenities.. and very clean! The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful - like Sophie who helped us to book the room at the last moment. Breakfast was served in a beautiful dining room, giving you the feeling of the most posh environment. Breakfast was very good, nice variety to choose from and the service was great. No doubt- we will come again! .p.s. the party we attended in the Union Club, first floor hall, was amazing and the food served was superb.
"Great location, old rooms, good service"
11/17/13 Adrian S Winnipeg
Overall, we enjoyed out stay. The facility is very grand, but the actual rooms are outdated and could use a freshening up. The service was good and the included breakfast was terrific. Would likely stay here again, given the reasonable price compared to the Fairmont next door.

I enjoyed the history of your hotel, although the building was built way more than a century ago - but managed to keep up and have maintained in such an excellent state. Front desk people are friendly, place is very clean.
"Prime Victoria location"

We were very pleased with our newly rennovated queen suite. As with all of our Canadian affiliate private clubs, the food and service was outstanding. Breakfast was included with a full menu choice. I loved having a fitness center on my floor. We also used the complimentry laundry.A perfect location in downtown Victoria on the harbour!!!
"Elegant, historical, great location"
10/14/13 Patrick B Charlotte, North Carolina, United States
Wonderful property with history. Excellent location, comfort very reasonable for a traditional property. We had an excellent breakfast and felt our room rate was very competitive for the room size and location. Would always return and recommend to adult travelers.
"Location, location, location"

A true 'gentleman's club' atmosphere in a superb location. A few steps up to the entrance of the but worth the effort. Don't expect a porter to come to your aid - there appear to be none. Spacious, a little quaint and with a dress code that may not suit very casual travellers, but which was not too demanding in the breakfast room at least. Welcoming and helpful staff, and an excellent breakfast. Very well located, a stone's throw from the harbour with its many activities/attractions.
"Competitive prices, vintage building"
09/15/13 FirstOnes Tucson AZ
We enjoyed the vintage building, elevator and room fixtures. I can't comment on the complementary breakfast because we had to get an early start up the coast. However, it looked like it would have been excellent. The September price of this room was very competitive if you want to stay downtown. I would recommend this establishment to anyone who appreciates classical architecture and antiques. We had a hard time finding this establishment. It was not marked well and calling the hotel did not yield useful information. We deliberately selected the least expensive room price and the view was predictably bad. Note that you will be paying a hefty parking fee for any of these downtown hotels. This hotel used public parking that is about two blocks away.
"This hotel will absolutely make you feel like royalty"
09/06/13 TravelHeath Calgary, Canada
The Union Club of BC offers classic, comfortable, refined luxury at it's finest. The common areas of the hotel such as the reading room, dining room, lobby and bar are so beautiful, and the rooms themselves are extremely comfortable. Oh and the old elevator -- too cool! The staff were exceptionally courteous, and the free coffee and tea bar came in handy after long days of exploring Victoria. I'm not certain this perk is always offered, but we received vouchers for free breakfast on each day during our stay. This convenience was so wonderful, as the breakfast was so delicious! Truly a wonderful stay. I can't wait to return. p.s. I rated sleep quality a little lower, not due to the Union Club itself, but to the flocks of seagulls everywhere in downtown Victoria that are so insanely loud! Being so close to the water, I guess it's to be expected.
