The staff at the hotel were great, helpful and there if you had a question. The room was clean but had a chemical smell as the hallway did also. My complaint with the room is that there were no bedside lamps. You could not sit in bed and read or if you needed to turn on a small light during the night you had to get up and cross the room. Also I had […] an iron in the room, but no ironing board. There is a Mexican restaurant and bar attached to the hotel which was not half bad, also out the back of the hotel there is a walkway to another restaurant that seemed to be very busy. It served its' purpose. The hotel was a bit old/shabby but the room was clean & it had a fridge. To use the treadmill in the small gym I had to go to the front desk to get a magnet which needed to be placed on the control panel for the treadmill to work. The neighborhood was not nice. So, it was especially convenient that there was a serviceable restaurant/bar […] on-site. Food there was commensurate in quality with the price: reasonable. The pool area was well used by many guests. I didn't see anyone in the water but folks seemed to enjoy it more as a lounge/gathering place to chat & read the paper. Had a nice kind of neighborhood feel which was in contrast with the surrounding area the hotel was in: light industrial, not especially safe-seeming. The front desk staff were courteous & attentive. It looked like there were new A/C units being installed in another hotel building which I think is promising. The complimentary breakfast was on par with most mid-range hotels that offer it. Parking was easy and, although not directly outside the main entrance to the building I was in, it was close enough. I did fear that, given the neighborhood and ready access to the lot by anybody, my car might not be 100% safe. However, nothing happened to it. If I happened to be passing through Bakersfield again (which, honestly, I hope I don't, but that's not the hotels' fault) I'd stay here again for the same rate. Read more

I mistakenly left my Iphone charger behin d so i called and asked to see if they found it. They did but refused to mail it for $0.44 ppostage as could not get reimbursed. I advised to put in envelope with my name on and i would have someone come by. No one there ever heard of this and there was nothing there. Location of hotel is in the downtown area. Restaurants are near and if you like Mexican food, there is a Mexican Restaurant next door. The rooms are spacious but we did have a problem with a clogged drain in the bathtub. Complimentary breakfast was very good. I would return on my next trip.

The location of this hotel is perfect. The entire downtown area around the Amtrack station has been redone and it is actually pretty nice. I was very surprised. Hill House was clean and the breakfast was very good. Perfect place to stay as a half way point if you are looking for a decent place to stop for the night. Great for the price!

Great place to stay in Bakersfield. Nice rooms, good people and excellent service. Food was awsome if you like Mexican food. Very nice breakfast. I will be back again next year for the Hot Rod Reunion

This hotel is older but well kept both outside and inside and you can see the pride in ownership as soon as you pull into the parking lot. The rooms are larger and you can see that they have updated their bathrooms with granite in the tub areas. The breakfast was not A+ but being free I would say it was at least a solid "B" . The location is in walking […] distance of the downtown and the civic center and main attractions. I forgot the best thing--There is a bar attached with a Mexican dining facility and Happy hour Tues-Thurs, Who could ask for more!!! The place was OK. Nothing exceptional. Room was clean, Free breakfast was better than average for motel buffets. There is a pretty good Mexican restaurant in back across the river on a lighted walkway that is an easy 5 min walk. Good enough for a one night, passing through traveler.

As a member of Best Western and often a guest I was very disappointed with our room and this particular hotel. The bedding did not look or smell fresh. The bed was made backwards with a soiled blanket under the top sheet. Leaving us to remake our beds. Our towels were small and rough with only 3 provided. Stayed the night with my boyfriend who was working at the fairgrounds. 2 miles away from fairgrounds and easy to find. Also a couple food places around there. I wouldn't wonder too far away from the hotel because of all the "crack heads" that you could see the farther you got away from the hotel. I booked this hotel that morning of my stay. Called […] an hour later to let them know I was going to have my dog with me. They said it shouldn't be a problem. When I got there, they have reserved a room for me that would be easier to take my dog out. I was on the bottom corner room. It was right next to the grass and had a sliding glass door out of the back of the room. Very easy to take my dog out. The price was very reasonable for the room. The staff was great and made my life very easy! I was only there for one night. Slept great other than the footsteps from above. Recommend this hotel!!! Read more
