This hotel is nearly perfect. Close to the beach, good restaurants, friendly staff, amazing pool area. The only problem we had was with WIFI from time to time, but after you put away your laptop and enjoy the amazing weather and view everything is great.

Overall, a great hotel. A truly 5 star Western style hotel in Kerala. The breakfast buffet which is included in the room rate was excellent. It had Kerala breakfast along with Western Breakfast which was great for the kids. If you want to save a few $$, eat a generous amount at the breakfast buffet and then you can get a decent meal outside the hotel […] and save you $$. The facilities are top-notch. The pool is great and the views are spectacular. The only thing that was an annoyance was that they charge wi-fi for each device you own rather than one charge. This hotel is AMAZING! I felt like I was actually in the pictures posted on the hotel's website or in a beautiful adventure game like Myst. The hotel & grounds are truly gorgeous & the service is impeccable. But even if you don't take advantage of the various hotel services, I highly recommend touring all of the hotel & grounds. Every nook & cranny […] is like walking into a new dreamscape. But I will warn you that it makes coming home & going back to work very difficult. We stayed in a club room which I like for the modern decor, but you can't go wrong with any room at this hotel. The club rooms are adjacent to the main building & overlook the ocean. From inside it looks like you're on a cruise ship but if you step out on the balcony, you'll see local fishermen in the the rocky surf below & a view of the Cafe terrace & infinity pool. The non-club rooms are are larger & are in the main building with a view of the ocean & beach. There is a mosque on the far side of the beach & I don't know if you can hear the call to prayer broadcast from these rooms, but we didn't hear it from our club room. The car service was the best. This being my first time to India, I was grateful to have such an accommodating & helpful guide with us at all times (especially with the chaotic road conditions). Still, with free traditional dance & martial art shows at the hotel as well as the free breakfast buffet (included with the club room) you may be tempted to never leave the hotel. Read more

hotel was on the right spot but beach was a bit dirty due to fisherman boats just next to hotel wihich was let down to the hotel. note to the hotel 5***** breakfast buffet must be inproved to a 5***** standard was very dissapointed with the breakfast 90% of the buffet was geared for local and very little for international customers

The Leela is an excellent hotel to stay in. The check-in process was smooth and they offered us tender coconut juice while we waited. I am not sure why, but they offered us the Presidential Suite for my mother and three of my sisters. All five of us had gone for a family women get-together. One of my sisters is from Singapore, one lives in California […] and I live in Atlanta. So you can imagine how rarely we enjoy each other's company. The rooms were humougous and richly decorated and we had everything we could ever hope for in that suite. The view was amazing and we took more than a thousand photos on the first day! Nothing was too much trouble for staff members. They were friendly, welcoming and did everything possible to make our stay comfortable and meet our needs. Fabulous hotel and great location but food and drink expensive, no free wi-fi, beds on the hard side (comfy pillows though!) and not an awful lot to do in the immediate local area.

Should you go 'Club' with this hotel then what you will get will be flawless. It's an incredible experience - Indian hospitality at its best. (And in my view it doesn't get any better). However should you go for a superior beach view room, a couple of words of warning. The beach is not an entire 'private beach' . It is a part of a public beach that […] has been designated for the exclusive use of hotel patrons. At the far end of the public beach is a mosque which has a loudspeaker just at the beginning of the 'private beach.' During our stay the mosque transmitted at an incredibly loud volume all day for at least 4 days. Some guests simply left the beach. When I say all day, that's what I mean. It started around 6:30am and finished at midnight and it blared into your beach view rooms and on your private balcony. The ground (garden level) beach view rooms can not be considered to have private balconies. As you sit there enjoying your 'privacy', staff come wandering by carrying all manners of stuff, other guests take shortcuts past your balcony and every day someone will water the grass in front of your private balcony with foul smelling water, all the while (with natural curiosity) staring at you on your balcony. One final point - in the main dining area, food is served ONLY on a buffet basis. No a la carte. If getting your own food and making your own toast at breakfast appeals to you, then you'll love this place. Read more

My wife and I recently spent our 50th wedding anniversary at this hotel. It has the most beautiful settings and views. We stayed in the Club and the view from our room was breathtaking of the sea.. The grounds of the hotel were beautifully maintained and all of the staff were amazing. will definitely return.

Following observations - 1. The staff were not aware of the complementary air port pick up and had to haggle a lot for the same. 2. The rooms were not ready at the time we were supposed to check in. 3. We got wet while visiting the room (no umbrellas ) 4. The room key of 103 did not work. The hotel staff overall were friendly and helpful, location right on ocean with stormy sea, stayed in club section in suite, hotel very busy with mainly visiting indian families from overseas. Disappointments were no pick up from hotel as detailed in booking, first room offered had view of sea blocked by large palm tree and gazebo structure and it took […] some time to get this sorted out but in process guest relations staff and manager of club were very helpful and we were allowed early check in after night time flight and stay in first room for day till acceptable room offered late afternoon. Given the tiredness this was appreciated. It seemed strange that with all the apparent care and attention being offered that some of the little things seemed to go unnoticed. e.g. that trays were left outside our room for 2 days and had to phone to have them taken away and wine glasses on shelf outside next room to us stayed 3 days yet butler and housekeeping staff passing all day. The hotel is effectively in 2 parts. One half is a proper 5 star while the other half isn't. The club rooms are what you'd expect from a 5 star hotel but the beach and garden rooms aren't. they're 4 star at best. We had a wedding there with close to 40 guests staying at the hotel. We, as the bride and groom got a poor beach room. To say we were disappointed […] would be an understatement. Other members of our party told the staff that we should be upgraded but they told us no club rooms were available. However when we complained that my elderly mother's garden room was way too far for her to get to (they provide gold buggies to get you to and from your room but she had to wait 45 mins for one while locked out of her room!!) so when we asked for her to be moved closer to the main part of the hotel we were told there were no regular rooms left but she could pay for a club suite. Yes, the same club rooms I was told weren't available to us as an upgrade as bride and groom! Anyway I was told no regular rooms were available for my mum to move to but I ended up arguing for 1/2 an hour after which a room miraculously appeared out of nowhere for here! why did I need to argue to get her a room that she could get to?!?!? The worst part of this hotel is the service. It's about as bad as I've ever had. The staff are generally nice (except for the duty managers who told us no rooms were available when clearly there were!) They would either get the order wrong or we'd have to ask about our order 3 times before we got it and when it did come it was still wrong. This was happening on a daily basis to the majority of our guests. After 4 days of this we had had enough and asked to speak to the general manager. To his credit is apologised for the shortcomings especially for the fact we had a not very nice room and nothing done to make my wife feel even remotely special about being there. I recently stayed at The Leela Kempinksi in Kovalam at end of a seven week tour of Sri Lanka and India. Driving up the roadway into the hotel, I was immediately impressed as it is situated in beautiful surroundings. Upon arrival at the hotel, baggage was scanned and we were welcomed with a gorgeous shell lei and a coconut water. Registration was very […] efficient. The hotel was way beyond my expectations - amazing infinity pools and restaurants, and the beds in the room were so comfortable - soft comfy pillows (and a pillow menu if you were not satisfied) and and an extremely comfy mattress. There is also a spa treatment centre in the hotel complex which has a wide range of wonderful ayurvedic treatments - for true self-indulgence I would strongly recommend having some of those treatments. The only negative was the local beach near the hotel - the water is very dirty and there is a lot of rubbish floating in it due to the number of fishing boats in the area. I would suggest swimming in Lighthouse Beach, which is 3 km away, as it is a much cleaner alternative. For a night or two or more of total relaxation and self-indulgence, stay at The Leela in Kovalam. Read more
