Staff and service were excellent, and they were always ready to assist. Rooms are clean and fridge is restocked every other day. The buffet had plenty of choices and something for everyone. We were served by the same guys everyday during our stay, and even remembered it was one of our friends' birthdays! The a la carte restaurants were a nice change […] from the buffet - there is an Italian (formal, men must wear long pants) and a Mexican (casual) one. You can make one reservation for every 4 nights stay but we were able to try both since it was not very busy. I wouldn't really recommend this for honeymooners because it is a family-friendly resort and chances are, you'll hear babies crying, and kids throwing tantrums and running around. We noticed this only on our last day as the weekend approached. Otherwise, majority of the guests were older and retired, so our stay was pretty quiet. I had a wonderful time but would look elsewhere for a relaxing honeymoon. The only major negative I can think of are the timeshare salespeople in the lobby. We just arrived and wanted to settle in our rooms, but got talked into a salespitch. It really annoyed us because it wasn't how we wanted to be welcomed to the resort. My husband and I just spent our honeymoon at the Occidental Grand Nuevo.. After reading the reviews and seeing the 3.5 stars for this hotel we thought well at least we'll enjoy the beach. We weren't really sure what to expect or how the hotel would actually be. Recently the hotel has done renovations and when we arrived we were in awe of the place. […] The reviews we read must have been before this took place. It seemed to us that the hotel used to be a 3 star hotel but is now attempting to move in the ranks of a 4-5 star. The food was good at the buffet, the service was very good, and the activities at the hotel were enjoyable. The restaurants are what really please us. The food was great and service was better than most of the restaurants we normally go to in the USA! Plus they were included in our all-inclusive.. Gorgeous sunsets! Beautiful scenery!! Out of the other surrounding hotels Occidental looked to have the biggest beach with a more room so it didn't feel as packed and busy.. The only thing that bothered us was some of the hotel lobby staff is trying to sell time-shares. They would come up to us any time we were in the lobby to see if we had heard about them! We quickly learned to not to accept making an appointment with them to hear about the hotels "activities" which was only a sales presentation for a time-share. Our room smelled moldy. We had to beg to get our very warm refrig filled with water and soda. I had explained to the staff that my husband has health issues that he needs to drink plenty of water. My son was also having some stomach issues and it took almost an hour to get some 7up. I had to go to the dining room and ask one of the waiters myself. Decent for the money; but it could be better. Hotel has only two a la carte restaurants and guests only can get one reservation for every three night stays. Buffet is good for the most part. The chairs at the buffet restaurant are not confortable. You can not sit back straight to eat your meal. it feels like you have to be leaning at all times it feels like sitting on a stool. Juices are not natural they feel like sunny delight type. The bracelet closure is very rough. My wife and I scrached our faces several times while sleeping. I stayed at other places where you are not even aware you are wearing one. Service is alright. The waiters do the best they can to attend you but when the place is full they would need some more help to serve you the way they would like. Just returned last night from our one week stay at this fantastic resort and cannot stop raving about it! From checking to checking out, the service was outstanding. Although this is a smaller hotel than what we are used to staying at in Mexico, it has all the personality and services of a four star resort! Although there are no balconies in the majority of the rooms, the ocean view large bay windows are breathtaking to wake up to in the morning. There are three main dining areas in the resort. The first is the buffet which has a gorgeous outdoor seating area. There is a variety of foods offered here sure to satisfy anyone. The staff is very attentive and friendly. There is also Al a Carte restaurant dining options depending on how many nights you stay at the resort. The beach was massive; the sand was powder soft and golden. The waters were a dark green but so gentle and luke warm. In fact the waves are so gentle that many people let their small children play in and near the ocean! Everything was great: room, food, staff. Just one problem: no self service laundry, no place to dry the swim suite, the laundry service only. We had 3 full days:Saturday to Monday, leaving Tuesday. Sunday laundry service is not working, Monday was already late to use it because leaving Tuesday.

Our (4 adults, 3 children-16, 13, 11) last stay was in 2008. The property has been and continues to be renovated and improved. It remains family friendly. We like it because it is a compact resort with everything close at hand. Everything has been upgraded significantly: the beds are more comfortable, the food is much better with many vegetarian choices […] at all meals; the staff are excellent (and well trained for their jobs); the pool is clean as are all public areas; and activities are well led and popular with many guests. The beach is difficult to beat--wide, good sand, good for body surfing, and good for giant turtles that lay their eggs regularly during the 6-month season that runs til the beginning of December. We booked our room in the Royal Club. Day 2 of stay, the hotel pool was closed down for renovation. We had use of the pool of the hotel next door. No notification was given prior to the pool being closed. Many of the guests complained and were treated to the amenities of the Royal Club for their inconvenience. Check-in as usual in Mexico, was a nightmare. Even arriving at 3pm, the room was not ready and the person working behind the desk was rude and inattentive The atmosphere changed when the other person behind the desk realized my family were Expedia VIP members. There are a lot of "local" people using the hotel on day passes so be prepared for that. The buffets and such are full of them. I don't have anything against the locals, just when I spend money to get some recursion, I don't expect to be surrounded by the day-visitors. Thankfully, they were not allowed in the Royal Club which made it even nicer. They even had beds on the beach just for the Royal club with curtains. I have stayed at much nicer hotels in Mexico. So I recently traveled to this hotel with my boyfriend for a beach get away however there were several encounters here that left a really bad impression. PLEASE read and consider your options for available hotels. Upon arrival the front desk staff needed additional paperwork beyond our reservation number (?) for which I had to walk halfway across the […] resort to print out for them from Expedia. We then finally got to our room and our key card did not work...twice. The room was recently renovated and nicely appointed (good size, modern styling). The air conditioner was completely off and then when turned on really only barely breathed cool(ish) air. We left the curtains closed and it took the room 2 days to become tolerable. The room fridge is stocked with 1 Pepsi, 1 Sprite, 2 Modelos, and 4 waters restocked every other day. Stationed right outside of the elevator is the time share desk...I cannot tell you how completely annoying this was. We were "required" to meet with someone from the time share under the guise of being told of the resort activities. The nicest way to phrase it is that they are persistant but every single time you use the elevator you will have to run the gauntlet. Head down and no eye contact. The saving grace is the wait staff. They work very hard to make people happy and are very attentive. Especially if you take a stack of $1s. Tip well and things will be great. THE POOL CLOSES AT 8PM and this is strictly enforced. You can tell this hotel is still trying to find it's "groove." I think it just reopened in December. When we first arrived in the middle of the week of March 2012, the staff was attentive and our cups were always full. The best food we ate was at Los Olivos and Lahacienda, but unfortunately we were only able to make reservations for two nights out of our 6 night stay. A lot of the food at the buffet was overcooked, especially the sea food. It would be nice to also have some sort of game room/rec room for people to hang out at, because after they nightly show, thats it. If you don't drink, you just go to bed. Other than that, the rooms were clean and staff was friendly. I'd probably recommend this hotel to a friend next year, when they figure out what they need to fix. el servicio por parte de todo el personal fue muy amable, tuve un altercado con servicio de concergie, tardaron en ubicar mi reservacion un concergie nos comento que le apenaba mucho la espera y para compensar nos harian un regalo... un bono a la habitacion, al checar el supuesto canje con la persona nos solicito que realizaramos mi esposo y yo un desayuno […] y una visita a su area vip del Royal, accedi pues me habia agradado el hotel nunca me dijo que en realidad siempre ofrecen eso y que segun si asistes te daran un bono, el supuesto bono por la "espera" todo lo manejo con mentiras, la persona que nos atendio en el desayuno fue amable pero hacia expresiones y bromas que no fueron mucho de nuestro agrado sobre todo si no conoces a la persona, en fin le agradecimos el servicio y se presento un disque gerente a tratar de cerrar la negociacion sobre una adquisicion del paquete Royal, nos empezo a hostigar estuvo portandose muy grosero con mi esposo le cuestionaba el no aceptar la oferta que era un lloron incluso le dibujo una carita triste con lagrimas en la cara sobre una libreta en ese momento yo me enfureci y obviamente pedi nos dejara en paz, me apenaba que mi esposo tuviese que dar explicaciones y mucho menos por algo que nosotros no deseabamos, al contestarme el disque gerente Jesus que si queria el "regalo" debia dejarlo "trabajar", mi esposo entonces si opto por subir la voz solo pedimos salir de ahi, ya no estabamos disfrutando las vacaciones.
