Wonderful location with helpful staff. We had one day with incredible high tide flooding and the staff gave us garbage bags to wear on our legs, taped them tightly so we could walk the streets. What might have been a day spent in the hotel room turned into an adventurous, fun day!

Our room was good sized for a European hotel. And the location of the hotel was convenient to many Venice attractions. However, the mattress was uncomfortable and hard to sleep on. I had stayed at La Fenice years ago when the mattresses were lumpy and it felt more like a pensione than a hotel. I'm happy to say the mattresses have improved! The furniture is still quaint and sparse, but the rooms do have air conditioning, which is a necessity in the hot months. The breakfast was adequate - yogurt is now there - but hard boiled eggs […] would be welcome as an alternative to rolls, two cereal choices, sliced ham and cheese. But nothing beats the location, which is close to San Marco, close to the Accademia, close to everything. And proximity to good shopping and dining is also there. The attached restaurant did not have any fish on the menu, but my lamb was delicious and the service was attentive and well managed. I recently stayed here with my family and for a 4 star hotel, We had a 0 star experience. Firstly, we spent hours looking for the hotel in the scorching Venice heat with all our luggage because the hotel doesnt have any signs directing us to it's location. Second, When we final arrived the entrance to our suite was distasteful and depressing. The guy […] at the desk was also very rude and refused to give us directions to the nearest ferry. Also, theres no wifi in the rooms, only in the lobby which is in a completely different building and it is only free for 15 minutes, so don't believe them When they say free wifi. Lastly, what completely ruined our experience was that my daughter found pubic hair all over one of the towels which we were really repulsed by. All in all, I DO NOT recommend this hotel AT ALL. We were surprised and delighted with our stay. We'd expected the hotel to be just fine; in fact, it turned out to be magical. Our room had a lovely little balcony above a small canal; we awoke to the sounds of gondolas passing beneath our windows. Although an old, well-established hotel, La Finece is very well maintained, very clean, and air conditioned-a must in the heat of the summer. The bathroom was small (shower only), but spotless. The room was larger than most we've had in Europe, particularly the British Isles. The vaporetto from Marco Polo Airport stopped about 100 yards from Piazza San Marco and it was an easy 10-12 minute walk to the hotel. It's around the corner from the Gran Teatro La Fanice, and many opera stars (including Pavarotti) have stayed at the hotel while performing at the Teatro (we saw "Carmen" our second night there). It's no more than a ten minute walk to the Rialto and Accademia bridges across the Grand Canal and to the Piazzo San Marco and its nearby museums, the Doge's Palace, and St. Mark's Basilica. Breakfast was typically continental, with items cooked to order for an extra charge. We can't recommend the hotel highly enough. Read more

I can't say enough about the staff. We had an issue with an airport transfer and the hotel staff took it upon themselves to successfully resolve the situation. They were also very willing to provide suggestions for must see sights, unusual night time activities and directions for getting there. The hotel is in a good but not great location. The staff is helpful, courteous and multilingual.The rooms are large but somewhat dingy with a slight odor. The Hotel La Fenice et des Artistes is a very cute, quaint hotel. Our room was a great size. We had the actual bdroom plus a small sitting area with a sofa and TV. very comfortable and clean. The front desk staff was very nice and polite and the complimentary brkfst buffet was quite decent consisting of coffee, tea, milk, juices, pastries, and cold […] cuts. To me the best part of this hotel was the location. About a 5 minute walk from Piazza San Marco and the Alilaguna and ACTV stops and lots of shops and restaurants, but yet the hotel itself is on a quite street so you can actually sleep and not be bothered by noise. This place also had the largest shower of our entire trip. We had the opportunity to choose between a double or 2 singles. The singles were small but serviceable, and the bathrooms were reasonable. My only complaint for the room probably applies to most any place in Venice or Italy. Since the heating/cooling isn't on in April, we had to open the windows to get some air movement. Unfortunately there were not screens (as is a theme throughtout Italy / Europe), but there were mosquitos. Any part outside of the blankets was attacked by mosquitoes. My arms looked like I has chicken pox! Not much can be done about it, but plan your PJ's accordingly for April! Read more

Adorable place! Needed room for 3 and were given 2 separate bedrooms-very pleased. Staff was wonderfully helpful and genuinely pleasant. Breakfast buffet was good. The vaporetto stop that will take you from Piazza Roma to the hotel drops you off 5 minutes walk from the hotel too (easy enough with larger bags) so you don't have to pay the extra euro to take a water taxi! We stayed in Venice at this hotel for eight wonderful days. The staff at the front desk, maids, breakfast area were very helpful and friendly. The hotel's location is ideal, close to nearly everything that you want to visit but tucked away in a quiet little square without tourist crowds. The room are of adequate size but unfortunately not well maintained. […] The mattresses are old and hard, lightbulbs are burned out, decorative trim is falling off the walls and the room furniture has seen better days. That said, the bathrooms in each of our two rooms were relatively new, clean without issues except for limited hot water during the morning rush. Breakfast was very nice with a great cappuccino maker, filled croissants, fruit juices, cold cuts, etc. Front desk staff went well out of their way to help with problems, questions and were consistently friendly and available. The prices for the rooms were very reasonable given the location. It's a bit of a shame because the maintenance needed is really light weight stuff to make this hotel an absolute gem. I would not hesitate to stay here again and would recommend it, especially to value conscious travelers. Read more
