Trip in Strasbourg. "Good hotel- great location"
10/16/14 Caroline P Montreal, Canada
I stayed at Mercure Gare Strasbourg on October 9 to 13. The hotel is just in front of the train station so it was great for me because i took the train about 2 to 4 times a day. you will find restaurants and cafes all around the hotel. It's walking distance from the Cathedrale and the petite France. The staff was really helful. My room was big with a great view. The rooms would need a bit of renovations but i wasnt much in my room so i didnt mind. My only complain would be the food at the bar because there were missing half of the items on the menu. I had a great time in Strasbourg and i would recomand this hotel if you will travel by train.
"Great location - helpful staff"

The hotel's central location was an asset as we were travelling by train and public transport. The room was large and clean. We could hear the noisy air-conditioning at night time. Breakfast was fresh and had a great variety.
"Better than the Last One!"
10/01/14 Trevor A Ponteland, United Kingdom
Nice modern hotel very close to station. Friendly staff and good clean standard type rooms with free wifi which worked well. Breakfast was OK with several choices and the hotel is within easy walking distance of some very good restaurants in centre. Vastly better than the last Mecure I stayed in.
"Dirty, smelly dump."
I walked in expecting a 4 star experience, walked out feeling dirty and disgusted. First of all, I walked in and discovered the most atrocious smell. The lobby smells of a musty pensioners home. The decor is putrid. We went up to our rooms to discover we had been landed with disabled rooms (unable to use the toilet because it was too tight to the wall, to high as feet couldn't touch the floor and had to sit sideways) We were utterly disgusted with the cleanliness. The tiles, shower, floors was absolutely filthy. Could not have a decent night sleep as air condition was not usable. Overall the rooms were not user friendly. Back stairwells were filthy. Service was very poor. Bar staff couldn't even count and we were left to feel stupid when it was stupid on their behalf. Every other hotel we have used before (e.g mecure gare de lyon) cleaners were seen in the mornings - which we did not see here. All the other hotels we have been in have deserved their 4 stars. THIS HOTEL DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE RATED. BE WARNED
"Ideal for train station"

Lovely room at front of hotel on third floor, bathroom had a cracked sink, no fridge, very quiet compared to Paris, lots of restaurants and cashpoints nearby, breakfast good with lots of choice. Don't miss son et luminere at rivers edge at 22:00 hrs.
"Good place in Strasbourg"

I come a lot to Strasbourg and know a number of hotels in town. I am surprised this one is not further up in the list of tripadvisor. The location is great, the beds are very good, bathrooms in good shape. Staff is professionell and friendly. The hotel is clean and I find the rooms quiet. There are rooms for wheelchair users. Nice bar for a glass in the evening, decent breakfast. Expensiv, but so are all hotels in Strasbourg.
"One night stay"

We were travelling from lake Garda via Milan and basle and stayed in this hotel one night. Only 100 yds to the railway station and good access to the tram system. Good size room clean and no noise at all. Very good choice of hot and cold food for breakfast. Hotel in need of refurbishment of entrance carpet. Would stay there again if in the area.

Our group had overnight stay. We were travelling from Italy to Paris by train so this was a stop over as it was very convenient for the station. The room we were allocated was comfortable, if rather cramped and had no outside window. Our window was an internal one which looked over the reception atrium. We usually sleep with windows open but found this wasn't an option so reluctantly used the air-conditioning which was surprisingly very quiet and we actually had a very good night's sleep. This hotel has a very nice breakfast room. We had a latish breakfast yet found there was still plenty of choice. The food was fresh, delicious and plentiful.
"good for city break"

Stayed 1 night excellent location ~ room clean if a little small the breakfast was first class would stay again, very near the old centre and ideal if travelling by train, the only problem was the hotel bar closed early with no drinks available,
"4 star price, 1 star experience"
04/14/14 DanmarkBruxelles Brussels
Second and last time staying in this so called 4 star hotel: both rooms were extremely small, and the current room additionally has no air condition (apparently it was decided to cut the heating and air condition, as April is neither hot nor cold...) with the result that the room is 30 degrees. The "solution" offered was that to leave the windows open but since they face the internal covered courtyard as well as the hotel corridor, this would mean enjoying the noise and smell of the bar/restaurant and all the phone calls of the reception, as well as having all guests passing by looking into the room. Secondly, the door has a 3 cm gap between the door frame, so anyone can actually peek inside. At the going rate, this is really quite a bizarre experience, and can only recommend that other hotels, even Mercures, are chosen, since this one is very badly in need of substantial renovation.
