The Little Inn by the Bay is a cute and unique hotel! It was in a great location... literally one block from the beach and was well within walking distance to the beach, boardwalk, shopping and restaurants. They even allow you to use a free beach cruiser when you check in which was awesome for cruising the boardwalk! The hotel was clean and the bed […] was surprisingly comfortable. this hotel is in a beautiful area and surrounded by loads of stuff to do. If you are not looking for much in a hotel except a place to lay your head, this is perfect. However the front desk is a joke. They never answer the phone and speak very broken english. The room we was given looks nothing like the picture they have posted on the website.

Stayed only 1 night, but hotel was very clean and was in a good area. Small hotel, only two stories and I didn't see an elevator. There was an ice machine available and a liquor store across the parking lot. Easy walk to pier with lots of restaurants and bars nearby. Front desk person was nice. They have bikes and other things you can rent FOR FREE. The rooms were quite modern and clean. The surrounding area was full of dining, bars and a 5 minute walk to the beach. I mean for the price you can't beat it. Now the reason I gave "comfort of your room" a 3 was not because of the furniture (although the bed was a little […] firm for my liking but thats personal and theres nothing wrong with the bed) it was because there is a very small window in the bathroom that does not lock properly. Even when the window is locked it can still be opened with minimal force. The only person who could possibly get through the opening is like a 5 year old but i still didn't like it especially being on the ground floor. Keep in mind I never complained about it and I stayed in that room for 2 nights so it didn't bother me enough to leave but still was always on my mind and was worth mentioning. Read more

We had a birthday party on one of the boats in Newport, and decided we didn't want to drive back to Long Beach after partying for 4 hours. Lovely little hotel for what we wanted. Lots of area to walk, and sight to see. Miss having a swiming pool, but wouldn't have had time for one anyway!

On the web site it says we get a breakfast...that was the only downfall...no breakfast... but you get fre bikes, and 2 minutes from the beach. My daughter and I wanted to quiet place to stay while we explored the area. This place was convenient and relatively quiet. The carpet needed cleaning, but everything else was very clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. When we needed a charger for a phone, they gave us 2 addreses to try. First night there our air conditioning did not work resulting in a very uncomfortable night. They did move us to a new room which was much nicer and up to good standards.

When we checked in we were given a room that, when we opened the door, smelled musty and like it was a smoking room. Returning to the front desk we were given a much better, and cleaner, room, though this one had a bottle cap and wrapper under the edge of a chair. We thanked the front desk clerk again for allowing the change. The hotel is adjacent to […] a liquor store and we saw empty bottles in the shrubs. There is a tatoo parlor and rowdy bar just beyond the liquor store. Coupons in the hotel lobby for a free drink at Sharky's in Newport, (up to $7 value between 9 pm and 11 pm) were honored at that establishment outside the "time rules" and were appreciated. This is a good place to stay based on convenience of walking the beach, to the restaurants and stores of Newport, and even down to Balboa. Again, we commend the hotel clerk for changing our room. It's close to the beach.. What more do you want. The others talking about traffic noise I never noticed and I'm a light sleeper. There was a couple random drunks stumbling about and being loud. Can't beat this place for price and location.

Close to everything in Newport Beach which was nice. They do have bikes you can use for free. A big downfall is the hotel is only one block from a rowdy bar and both nights we were awoken multiple times by loud drink people yelling as they walked by the hotel. I was really tired the next day. This in itself is enough to make me not want to go back.

Looking at the outside/premises of the building, one would not expect to find a room as nice inside as we did. Very clean room with what looked like new bedding (styles and quality), new carpet, a newly tiled shower and bathroom, and a nice flat screen TV. The room could have used more mirrors though as the bathroom one is small and hard to have 2 […] people getting ready in front of. Plenty of outlets for hairdryer (they have one in the room) or cell phone charger. The air-conditioning worked well and the double paned windows made it hard to realize that the hotel was situated on a main road. Excellent location with several nearby restaurants and bars and easy walking to the beach. They do charge a deposit, which I found interesting because I paid for the hotel up front, but I got it all back in the end. They are probably used to people who party staying there, because of the location. Overall, excellent, and we would stay there again. Read more

While my husband and I were pleased with our room's decor and cleanliness, as well as the convenient location (we were within walking distance of everything we wanted to do), we were not pleased with the service. The website promises a continental breakfast (complete with cereal, pastries, juice, and a newspaper, but all we were offered was coffee. […] Luckily there is a McDonald's, a Subway, and a donut shot across the street. The shampoo container in our room was empty, the lotion container was half empty, and the towels were very linty. The tv in the room was a mounted flat screen but the picture was not set up for a flat screen tv so despite the screen's size, the actual picture was very small and had a big black square all the way around it. Despite the fact that there were several empty rooms during the weekend that we stayed, they were unwilling to grant us a late check-out. Our room was located on the ground floor and was extremely noisy. If you're looking for a quiet retreat, then do not stay here. It is too close to local bars and thus there is a lot of lvery boisterous ate night foot traffic walking by. Read more

The bed was extremely comfortable and the room had recently been renovated. My wife and I are in our mid thirties and spent one night here as a short get away. We chose it for its location near the restaurants and bars. It is a short five minute walk to the Newport pier. The only thing negative I'll say here is that the motel attracts college kids and […] noise is an issue. We had a group of kids next door to us who came back around 2AM and continued the party until who knows when. We slept through it, but it should be understood that this is a comfortable and convenient place to crash, and if you are looking for a romantic retreat or a place to bring kids you may want to look elsewhere. My girlfriend and I stayed there for 2 nights, so I got to meet three different staffs and all were friendly and very helpful. Even thought the hotel is between two main streets, the traffic noises weren’t that bad in my opinion. The location was awesome…I can’t say enough about it. Subway, donut shop, liquor store and McDonalds where right there. Free […] bike cruisers were very handy. Got one and rode around the beach which is only 2 to 3 blocks. The only experience I did not like was the one cleaning person. The check out is at 11AM, but the cleaning person knock on our door at 9:30AM and tried to open it to see if the room was empty already. Should not check (unless for sure they know) knock until 11AM. If your looking for a quiet place, this is not the spot. Wedged between the main street in and out of the Balboa Peninsula, there is a lot of street noise. However, the location is great! The room itself was pretty dumpy. Not a big deal for dudes, but prissy girls beware! The staff was very nice and there is a liquor store 50 feet away, which is nice […] if your into that sort of thing. They also offer beach cruisers for guest to use at no charge, so that saves you some dough right there. The bikes were in good condition. Overall, it;s an "OK" place. The room was very noisy, had a very musty smell and the room was not cleaned during the day. I left my room at midday and returned at 8 in the evening and the room was untouched with wet towels and unmade bed!!
