I stayed here while on business. The hotel and room met my expectations. The ocean view exceeded my expectations. The hotel is right on the ocean and is worth the drive outside of the city to stay. I will stay again for personal reasons to get away and be able to have such a nice view and relaxing stay.

Got a "partial ocean view" room, which did have a sliver of visibility to the breakers, but you had to look around the glaring white sign which was lit up brightly at night. Not worth the extra money for the partial view, in my opinion. The restaurant had a spectacular view of the beach and breakers (which is why our room didn't). The food and service were only okay, but the price was quite high, especially when I had the mistaken impression that a continental breakfast was included.

We had never stayed in Pacifica before. Iit's a really nice little town away from the hustling pace of San Francisco and yet close enough to easily spend the day in town. The Best Western Lighthouse is literally about 100 yds from the beach and we could see and hear the waves crash from our balcony. We will definitely go back there. Nice BIG, clean rooms....with a small tv.

All in all, not a bad hotel. Location is very convenient for travel into San Francisco, and is located right on the shore. I reserved a room with no view, but wound up with a cove view, which was a pleasant surprise. The only unpleasant surprise was a leaking ceiling (at least it wasn't over the bed)and it only lasted for about 15-20 minutes before stopping. Staff was courteous, the restaraunt has an excellent view of the ocean and food was good.

We obtained our reservation through hotels.com and they did not have a room in the category which we reserved. The hotel upgraded us to a suite and took incredible care of us the entire stay. We had a great ocean view from our room. It was quiet and clean and more than satisfactory. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone headed to this area. It is a nice easy drive to San Francisco. The people in the area are very friendly and helpful. I wish we could have stayed longer.

We've stayed here just about once a year going back about 4 years. We had the best room yet (but paid more too) and were happy with the room size, comfort & view. However, the service level has definitely dropped - check in & check out were tedious (long lines & only one clerk). Auto checkout from the room didn't work. The on-site restaurant (Ristorante Portofino) has excellent food, but also had service issues. We'll probably give them one more try next year...

The outside of the hotel is not that great, but the inside seems to have been redone lately. We had a huge room that was very comfortable. We had a nice view of the ocean and surrounding hiking trails. The staff was very helpful. Another plus is that it was very quiet -- no doors slamming! It is about a 20 minute drive to downtown San Francisco. The hotel restaurant was very tasty and has an incredible view of the sea. All in all, a nice hotel, and I would stay there again.

When traveling in from out of state, booking a hotel on the beach can lead a person to a certain assumption. Not what I expected...this part of CA was cold and breezy. Locals may know this, but I will from now on double check weather before I make vacation plans for "beach front" property. Through no fault of hotel, it was my experience a cold and often gloomy, due to fog, area. Hotel was fine, nothing exceptional, although I enjoyed the free internet access and computer available to patrons of hotels...was able to search for attractions and places to go further inland where 10 degrees+ warmer. The sound of the ocean outside the window was quite appealing and my favorite aspect of hotel.

This place is right on the beach and the inside of the rooms are newly remodeled and very nice BUT... Partial ocean view means you have to lean as far as you can over the balcony to see the beach and isnt worth the extra money. Further more the rooms have no climate control (AC) and it was in the 90's the day I was there. Even though the inside of the rooms is nice, you wouldnt know it by looking at the outside, it looks dirty and run down with the screens on the widows and sliding glass doors coming off. Also like the whole town shuts down at 9:00 so get out early

We really enjoyed our stay at the Monterey Hotel! We're "into" older hotels with character, and this one fit the bill. Although our room was small in square footage, the king-sized bed was comfortable, the bath was spacious, and the continental breakfast was yummy. And the price was right for this mid-town hotel. We would stay again. Only drawback was that the elevator was not working, so we had to use the stairs to our second floor room....no big deal.

I recommend this to only those who enjoy going to sleep with the sounds of the ocean rather than the sounds of horns and yelling you tend to find in the city!

Hotel looks a little worn on the outside, but we had a very nice, clean, large room with a mini fridge you can actually use, and a fireplace. The staff was very courteous and let us check in early. Considering prices in the Bay Area, it's a good deal for the location.

The Portofino resturaunt is a must visit for couples. Get there early to get a table that faces the wall of windows over-looking the ocean. If I ever make it to Pacifica again, this will be my first choice for a hotel.
