Location.
Located along the banks of the Chicago River in the Central Business district and the theater district of Chicago, Ill., stands the Hotel Monaco Chicago. The hotel is 3 blocks from the eclectic shops of the Magnificent Mile. 3 blocks from the 14-story hotel are the Wrigley Building and Tribune Tower. Millennium Park is 4 blocks away.
Hotel Features.
Originally a hat factory built in 1912, the Hotel Monaco Chicago opens to an atrium-style lobby sanctuary, complete with French Deco furniture, marbled floors, antique rugs and seating areas in front of a fireplace. Chefs at the on-site South Water Kitchen restaurant prepare American dishes with Mediterranean flare in a casual, family-friendly atmosphere. The hotel features a hosted evening wine reception with tarot card and palm readers, handwriting analysis, chair massages and old-fashioned board games. The business center offers 2 computers with wired Internet access (surcharge). Wireless Internet access is available in public areas (surcharge). Cardiovascular and strength training equipment is provided in the hotel's fitness area, while discounted access to a full-service health club nearby is also offered. The hotel participates in Kimpton's EarthCare program and has adopted standard environmentally friendly products and practices with high-impact and benefit to the environment.
Guestrooms.
The 192 contemporary guestrooms of the Hotel Monaco Chicago are washed in red and gold, and off-set by sunburst-shaped mirrors and meditation window seats. Well-lit mahogany Ruhlmann desks and armoires are showcased in each room. Standard amenities include cable television, CD players, and complimentary wireless Internet access. Bathrooms feature dimming lights, granite countertops, bathrobes and complimentary L'Occitane designer toiletries. Private guestroom workouts with treadmills are available for a fee.

South Water Kitchen - Warm colors and intimate lighting create a welcoming atmosphere in this restaurant, which serves regional American comfort food with a contemporary touch. Menu items include crab cakes, Yankee Beef Pot Roast, and Grilled Iowa Pork Chops. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; children's menu available.
Hotel Monaco's 24-hour exercise room has free weights, two treadmills, a stationary bike, and an elliptical machine. Guests also receive discount access to a health club four blocks away. The hotel's “Om Away from Home” program includes the in-room Yoga Channel and a variety of yoga accessories for complimentary guestroom use.
Lake Michigan is four blocks away, with a 20-mile lakefront path for walking, running, biking, or skating. Bicycles and in-line skates are available for rental at several beachfront locations. One mile away, Oak Street Beach is popular for sunbathing and swimming during summer months, when lifeguards are on duty. Five miles from the hotel, the Sydney R. Marovitz golf course offers a challenging and scenic nine-hole course along Lake Michigan.

"Nice Boutique Hotel"
Good location conveinient to all lines. Hotel staff was friendly. One complaint is that the first night they did turndown service and then the next two nights they did not provide turn down service even though I requested it. The only thing the front desk person could say was sorry that did not get done. Gym was decent, not large but had a couple of […] treadmills and elipticals, and a small weight room. the employee there is so nice and remember me. however, the hotel is pretty old even thought they re-design. it is a pretty good hotel but you would feel old when you live it.
"Much Better than a "Big Box" Hotel"
Great place to stay south of the Chicago River. Small size makes it more personal. The bartender took special care of us. (Two friends catching up after not seeing each other for years.) He became part of the family.
"Upscale"
Lavish hotel in the heart of downtown Chicago. You get what you pay for. Definitely not a budget hotel. But worth the $ for a special, pampered stay where u can walk anywhere downtown.

There were six of us who flew in from other states to have a long Easter holiday weekend. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We ate several times in the restaurant and the food was great each time. We enjoyed the evening happy hour. Overall, our experience was very nice and I would definitely recommend this hotel.

I stayed for 5 days on a business trip, so coming back to a hosted wine hour at the end of a long day was great. The staff was very helpful and friendly - it's clearly a well-run place. "Late Sunday Night Arrival"
I arrived at the Hotel Monaco Chicago around 11 PM and was pleased with the boutique feel and decor. The room was clean, nicely decorated and very comfortable. My only word of caution is that although I was told there was 24 hr room service, I called several times and no one answered the phone. I'm so disapointed our 24 hour Room Service, although a limited menu, wasn't able to be reached when you called, as that's a service we're so proud to offer. I'm glad you didn't go hungry, for sure, but please never hesitate to let the Front Desk know when you need anything, they can most certainly reach anyone they need to by radio and assure you a good late night meal. We especially appreciated Ryan's help in finding bicycles to rent, and tours to take. The early morning concierge was helpful also. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact the hotel does provide us with free toiletries if we have forgotten things. A nice touch.
Kimpton's Forgot It, We Got It program provides a number of items to help guests enjoy their stay and not stress about forgetting something. Ryan will appreciate that you appreciated the bike rental information. Although the view from my room was the building right next to me which is kinda scary during the night, the overall quality of the hotel was pretty nice. And the staffs were fairly friendly.
We do have have multiple options for views, including the famous window seats, so please ask when booking so we can help. I hope you were able to join us for complimentary morning coffee or our daily 5-6pm wine hour.

The hotel Monaco is in a great location. It is very close to all necessary bus stops and train stations. It was very easy to get around. There is a great little bar right across the street as well and the food is wonderful. The staff here was OUTSTANDING. The manager was incredibly friendly and helpful. From the outside, the hotel's appearance looked questionable, However once you step through the doors you 'll be pleasantly surprised. It was very straight forward. Not a ton of frills but for the price and location, it was an EXTREMELY good call.

"Hotel Monaco on the Chicago River"
My stay was brief, but relaxing. The room was to my exact specifications, though the down comforter was a bit weathered, none the less I enjoyed myself. Oh, and I must not forget the South Water Kitchen restaurant. My meal for dinner was absolutely amazing.
South Water Kitchen has fabulous flat breads with a midwestern flair, a very popular order of Buffalo Short Ribs, and amazing deserts like Chef Roger's mom's German Chocolate Cake recipe. Our apologies for the down comforter that wasn't so comfy- we will address. Thanks for sharing and we're glad South Water Kitchen was fantastic for you.

Service was upbeat and friendly upon check-in. Our room was big, 2 queens for 3 girls, and best, fresh carpet. The adjacent restaurant had good service and good food. Can't beat the location, easy access to the L, theatres, State St and Michigan Ave shopping.
We also have amazing suites that have a full size jetted tub and a separate living room area with a comfortable pull out couch. It's perfect for a girls getaway!

The room was small and would be cramped if there was more than two people sharing the room, but the room was clean and nicely decorated in rich and vibrant colors. We do offer suites that have a pull out couch and a separate sleeping room. We can also place a comfortable rollaway in the suite for a fee. Always check with our concierges for wonderful restaurant recommendations! Chicago is well know for the many different restaurants.

Will definitely use again.
The location sure is perfect. We love to accomodate guests that have multiple rooms by making sure they adjoin, just be sure to always give a good notice (a couple days is great) so we can prepare that for you. Those window seats sure are great!

"Great hoteL in okay location"
A few spots nearby like a drugstore and 2 restaurant bars. No bar in the hotel. However, the room and staff were wonderful. Hard pillows though! They hurt my ear. But, I'd stay here again.
Come back and check out South Water Kitchen and their tavern. They have a very cozy bar with a couple fabulous mixologists. They have some cool local libations they love to mix up for our guests.

Kimpton does a nice job with all of their properties including this one. The room was a good size, had a fair view, decent bathroom and good bed. There was nothing wrong with the stay, it just wasn't one that knocked my socks off. This is good feedback and we certainly do want to impress and delight our guests. We are bringing to wine hour some appetizers from South Water Kitchen every night that will complement our current wine offering and seasonaly we do try to do something special like Hot Toddys or Arnold Palmers. I was very pleased on my recent business travel to the Hotel Monaco. It was close to all the sites, area restaurants and entertainment and to my office. I was impressed with the beautiful clean room and friendly staff in all areas of the hotel. I will definitely stay there on my next trip to Chicago - business or pleasure!

"Nice hotel, good price"
The room was clean and very nice. The hotel staff was very helpful in accommodating all my requests. The only drawback was that my room on the 6th floor had a view of parking garage structure. I liked complementary tea and wine service. Overall, I am happy with my stay and definitely will recommend it to everyone.

I stayed at the Kimpton while attending a conference. It was an easy walk to the conference site at the Intercontinental (other side of the river) as well as to shopping and restaurants (both sides). I am sure that I got more luxury and service for dollar than those at the big hotel! Great job!
The hotel is located in the middle of everything. It is just one block from Michigan Avenue shops, and 3 blocks from Millenium park where you can go ice skating in the winter!

"Kids favorite hotel EVER!"
Ask for a room with a river view and window seat. We loved lounging and watching the world pass by. They offer coffee in the morning along with a hot chocolate bar with all of the fixings: marshmallows, chocolate chips, whip cream and bacon! Staff was consistently friendly and upbeat. Kids can't wait to go back.
When staying with kids, make sure to ask for the Kimpton Kids welcome amenity!
