The staff was pretty friendly and seemed helpful- not that we really took advantage of the services. Overall a 4 out of 5!

This is actually my first review ever online but I had to be able to give back to a Hotel that contributed to an excellent Chicago Experience. I originally found this hotel through hotels.com doing my usual online compare/contrast. Later after booking the hotel based on the reviews, I found it again in a Fodors book that we purchased. We took advantage of all the amenities mentioned in the book. (We even requested a goldfish for the room). The Staff up front at the desk were incredibly friendly, the concierge was friendly and helpful, and the maid did a wonderful job each of the 4 days we stayed cleaning the room (often laying down a small towel and organizing our bath supplies). We were continually impressed with how close this hotel was to everything. We hit every major attraction and shopping spot that we could find in four days and all was within walking or train stop distance (the hotel is also only a block away from the train from Midway). We will stay here again!!! Great hotel!!

Very friendly/extremely helpful staff. There was initial confusion with my reservation being lost, but they took immediate initiative to resolve the problem. The location is perfect. Very disappointed in our stay in Chicago Monoco. We have stayed many times elsewhere, primarily in washington DC and are accustomed to great customer service, beverages like water or soda at the wine bar, coffee and papers in the morning, help with bags. Not only did the Chicago monoco do none of these things, the staff was not helpful, either. Requests were not honored and the staff did not seem happy to be there. YOu got the feeling you were "bothering" people if you asked a question. No bellman, the doorman did not open the door or help with bags. Even though we were traveling with a child, I had to request a fish when they did not bring it. Really baffling.. as we love the Monoco in Washington.

My husband and I made a last minute decision to go to Chicago for the Labor Day weekend and was lucky enough to find this great hotel. Everything was wonderful from check-in to check-out. The rooms are beautifully decorated, as well as the bathroom. On Saturday night, I called to schedule an in-room massage for the next morning and it was taken care of immediately. The massage therapist was one of the best I've ever had and I get a massage every other week. The price was also reasonable. From now on when I visit Chicago, I plan to stay at this hotel.

I'm a Chicago native back in town for a family trip. The location of this hotel can't be beat. It's right next to the River dividing the North and South ends of Michigan Ave. The North offers excellent shopping, Navy Pier and the waterfront, while the South has the Museums and Millenium Park. We were within walking distance to most downtown attractions and restaurants. The hotel itself is nice, on the smaller side with a whimsical, boutique feel. The cookies at the front desk and daily evening wine reception were a nice touch. Our room was nice and felt bigger with the high ceilings. The view was awful as we directly faced a parking structure. The beds were a little hard. Otherwise, it was nice. It's also attached to a great restaurant, the Southwater Kitchen which features some awesome comfort foods.

The Hotel Monaco is an excellent hotel for business or pleasure while in Chicago. It is conveniently located very close to the Chicago Theater (a 2 minute walk), and featured excellent customer service, large rooms, and great attention to detail. Kimpton properties are an eclectic lot, but I patronize them whenever possible. The Monaco has many amenities, and even lets you reserve a goldfish for your room, which was a whimsical touch that my wife and I took advantage of. The concierge we dealt with, Sylvia, was absolutely superior. She was exceptionally knowledgeable, and gave us many key tips that made our stay even better than it already was. The Monaco is a great hotel with very nice rooms, great service, and a friendly staff. If there is anything on the negative side to mention it's that it is somewhat pricey, but I am looking for a good value more than the absolute lowest price. The Monaco delivers an excellent value, fully justifying a premium price. I recommend it highly.

The staff at Hotel Monaco were excellent; friendly and helpful. My arrival in Chicago was 8:15a. My intent was to leave my bag in storage at the hotel and check in later however because there was a room available with at river view I was immediately checked in which allowed me to hang my close before going to my first meeting. That was fantastic. The room decor is interesting if not clever. Seems like the HM services business travels until one really looks at the rooms. For example when I saw the tiger and zebra print bathrobes along with some tiger print boxers I wondered if I had been given a honeymoon suite. I did give me a chuckle because at first I thought a guest had left their tacky smoking jacket in the closet. The big round mirror at the foot of the bed was an obvious. Overall the accommodations were fine and I had a funny story to tell throughout the day.
