We stayed here quit by accident when our travel plans changed on us. The hotel is what you would expect in a small french town off the beaten path. It... is a small tourist hotel with friendly service. It is showing it age, but then again, but not run down by any means. If you are accustomed to Hiltons and Hyatt, then perhaps you need to head to a larger town. But if you do, you will miss out on an authentic little french town with lots of charm and history. This hotel completes the experience. It feels like it belongs. and dated although the room was spacious and mattress was firm. Shuttered window overlooked parking lot creating a gloomy ambiance which was amplified by the cold, rainy weather and NO HEAT. We stayed one night at the Hotel de France on our way home form two weeks in the Dordogne. We arrived around noon so that we could see the Valentre Bridge and walk the river around the old city. Hotel was clean and comfortable Staff helpful ,but could be improved by tea/coffee facilities in rooms. Breakfast very good and staff efficient. Impossible to use shower in bath without soaking floor and desparately requires grab handle for safety. Overall very pleasant.
