Deer Lodge - Lake Louise

The lodge was comfortable. Older and less amenities that I thought it might have. It didnt bother me, but I am sure some would be surprised to find a room without t.v. The scenery makes up for that though as my room had a view of the glaciers above the lake. Food and drinks were very good as well.

An incredibly comfy bed, fluffy down bedding, pillows of every size and weight, an extra throw blanket. The room in the new wing was spacious, and complimentary internet. Hot tub on the rooftop was cool, but so was the water. Maintenance was actively working on it though.

I booked this hotel after driving by it many times on previous vacations. I thought it would be like a regular hotel with small room, some furniture, a TV, fairly modern bathroom and a view. Stayed this lodge at August. Even it was summer season, temperature was a bit low. I wanted to warm up my room, but it was central heating system. I have to wrap up my body with blanket. We like historic hotel and this was a fine example of one from the turn of the twentyth century. The rooms are small, clean and very functional. The restaurant is one of the best in the Lake Louise area. The staff is friendly and work hard, but the wear and tear on the building shows.

We stayed in Tower Room 200; we kept the windows open until early morning with a nice cooling breeze in the room all night long. The room windows opened to a fast stream across the street which we listened to at night. The bed was very comfortable; the room was small but nice. The second and third stories do not have an elevator so you must carry bags […] upstairs but the restaurants downstairs make up for any moving in inconvenience. The hotel is a short walk from the Chateau ( 2-3 equivalent blocks) which is also great. We would gladly stay there again. Bring books since there is no TV, but staying here makes it a real vacation. Conveniently located not too far from the lake. The internal layout is confusing. No TV in the room. The positives: easy walk to Lake Louise, shower pressure was great, good free wifi. The negatives: The hotel is old, dark and out of date. Our room view was of a stone wall, and it was a very small room without TV and just a tiny table and bathroom. The sink had 2 (unmatched) faucets with no drain stopper making it difficult to use. Parking was tight […] with some 'no parking' areas around. Many areas of disrepair were seen such as sagging paint. During our stay they had a scheduled power outage for a day, and there were wet paint signs around. Floors are uneven and with the dim lighting you need to be careful. The lobby is unimpressive.The facility needs an extensive 'make-over'. We can't comment on the spa or restaurant. I would not return. It was convenient due to closeness to Lake Louise. However, the room was cold. Return air vents in the room had cold air coming out and could not be closed. I had to request heat and the desk said they would have someone turn the boiler on later.Also, bedspread, I wasn't confident of its cleanliness. The next night, I ordered a hamburger. There was only one other table in use when we arrived at 4:30. Other patrons came in after and were served food before us. My hamburger arrived more than 30 min. later.. It was overdone. when I removed the onions, it was evident the burger was not only overdone and dry, it was also burned. I mentioned it to the waitress, who had no comment. Later, she made an error in the bill in your favor which we brought to her attention.So, all in all, I was not too happy. Also, why not either have hot water for coffee or tea in the room as they had at Lake McDonald lodge. 7 a.m. to 11 a.m should be extended particularly after coming in from a cold day. The hotel is old and quaint with old fashioned but nice common areas. However, our web site reservation said we had a room with a view which the hotel clerk said the hotel would not honor. When we went to the room he assigned us, someone else had just been booked into it. Back at the checkin desk a different clerk did not even look at our reservation […] but put us in a ground floor room at the end of a first floor hall. It overlooked the parking lot, but had a beautiful mountain in the background. The room was about half the size of normal hotel rooms and very stark with double bed, small table and two hard chairs. The confortrr did not cover the bed and was smaller than the duvet, so we got cold at night and had a very fitful sleep. Also the exit door by our room slammed loudly many times disturbing us more. Hotel is quite old although nice and the infrastructure is rather basic, but it is well located very close to the Ski Louise hill with free shuttle. If all you are going to do is ski and sleep, which is what I did, then I don't think you can find anything better for the price.

The Deer Lodge was a nice experience in many ways and disappointing in a few. First off it was rustic, warm,and very appealing as a ski lodge and I was impressed with its many features. Our room was very hot and there was no way to adjust the heat. The person that serviced the room when we spoke to them about it simply responded with "yes we have trouble […] with a couple of rooms that way just open the window".That however invited a new problem children were outside our window building forts in the parkling lot and were very noisy and using foul language (the open window now created a worse dilemma). This was after nine o colck at night and continued for over an hour .They also ran up and down the halls as late as two in the morning and woke us up several times. It appears no one was supervising their adventures (parents) and hotel staff were quite indifferent to making sure all guests have their needs met.....quiet enjoyment..... not just the rambunctious children. Would I stay there again.... yes...but I felt the room rate should have been adjusted for all the inconvenience.We made the hotel aware of our distrations and concerns. There were no discounts forthcoming. I am bvery easy going as is my wife....other people may not return when they feel the hotel does not validate that someone's comfort was compromised by a lack of diligence in making a room function properly, and controlling noise levels after ten at night. The hotel is an old one but a good one. It has the character you would expect for being located in the Rockies. It looks and feels like a lodge, post and beam structure with alot of old hunting and hiking memorabilia. Great place for the price. We walked up to the Lake Louise for sunrise on the mountains. Despite a couple of flaws, Deer Lodge has old school charm that will appeal to the traveler who is looking for more than the standard "cookie cutter" experience. Surrounded by trees and just off the lake, it blends elegantly with the natural environment in way that its gaudy neighbor will probably never appreciate. Despite a somewhat worn exterior (not […] sure how old this place is, but I'm guessing 75 years or more), the interior is well appointed with spacious rooms, a redone bath (in our case at least), real woodwork, real wooden doors with real keys, real balconies with real doors that open and allow entry of fresh air. A spacious, airy room downstairs has numerous tables for games, reading, or computing, and adjoins a lovely sitting room that always has a roaring fire (gas, but in a real, gigantic fireplace). There is also a deck with tables. The overall affect is a cross between a hunting lodge and a country estate, in either case hearkening to the early 1900s. The restaurant is one of the best in the area, with fare that is good but not quite great. Although a little pricey, I would recommend giving it a try, especially if you are tired of the mediocre hotel fare and fast food (homemade ice cream is delicious!). The service is upbeat and efficient and never stuffy or obsequious, although we did have one terrible experience, which I believe was specific to a certain individual and not thematic. Location was perfect- so close to the start of hiking trails all over the Lake Louise Area. The food was excellent. Accomodations were nice and clean. The only drawback is that there is no elevator so you have to walk up flights of stairs. We would stay here again!
