I was there on business and I was literally in the hotel for about 2 hrs total! My mom and daughter were there much more than I was...but the room was clean and beds pretty comfy! We were in the new side and it was very nice!

After viewing all the other reviews, I selected this hotel. What a pleasant surprise. Restaurant for dinner is pricey but worth it. The breakfast (by voucher) is way above what you would normally see on a breakfast buffet.Will definitely stay at Best Western Plus again. White Spot Restaurant across the street is upscale and food is wonderful.

This Edmonton hotel is in the hip Old Strathcona district, steps from dozens of shops, cafés, restaurants, theatres, and clubs. The University of Alberta is 1.5 km (0.9 mi) from the hotel. The Art Gallery of Alberta and

Great! We parked out front and the varscona took care of everything including parking the car. Very clean and comfortable. I think roomservice was expensive. We wanted a bedtime Snack but ended up just going without. The party seemed to be going on outside girls shouting and carrying on but I was tired and fell asleep on very good bed and didn't wake […] until morning. I would go back. Read more

Very nice stay overall (2 nites), but only found 1 bathrobe in the room and on the second day there was long black hairs in the bathroom and desk area.

The Varscona's location is great -- close to theatres, restaurants, nightclubs and an eclectic array of interesting shops. But, it can be noisy and the neighbourhood has its share of disreputable characters. The staff was courteous and prompt -- the valet parking was free and on time every time. "The varscona hotel, walking distance to services"
The best part about staying at the Varscona was the helpful staff, they were great and arranged our rooms so that they were to our needs. The parking was convenient and close to the hotel but taking the alley exit was not a good idea at night, I would recommend coming out the front where there is a main street and more people. The rooms were excellent, […] the elevator was a bit slow and there was only one. From the upper floors there didn't seem to be any stairs which were close by. The location was great for restaurants and stores and for edmonton it was fairly central in location. We would stay there again. Read more

We were again very pleased with the Varscona. We have stayed there a few times and it has been consistently very good. The neighbourhood is a bit noisy but the location is really great. Very nice continental breakfast and so popular that perhaps they need a larger room.

"Great Weekend Getaway"
My wife and I used our week end at the Varscona as our Christmas Present to each other. We were joined by our Best man and his wife for a week end of visiting and just leisurely strolls along Whyte Avenue taking in the people and sights and of course the aromas from the nearby Farmers Market just a short walk away from the hotel. If you cant find what […] you are looking for in the area of the hotel, then your just not looking. We like the location, the staff and of course the very clean and comfortable rooms. We stayed here for 4 nights in August. The room was a pleasant surprise. The positives: nice room; lovely bathroom; very nice toiletries (spa-like); little fridge; in-room snacks (need to pay for these); valet parking (free!); complimentary breakfast; free wireless internet; coffee shop downstairs; within the old strathcona shopping district (quirky, […] novel shops). The negatives (minor): the room was quite cold; no view from the room; parking on the road in front of the hotel is limited; cleaning of the rooms happens early (needed to tell them to come back later); breakfast finishes early-ish (9 am) This was a very nice hotel for the price. "Varscona, Edmonton - close to all the action"
Very friendly staff, most accomodating! Although older, it was clean and comfortable. Best feature is that it sits in the heart of Old Strathcona - this is where you want to be for some excellent eats, drinks and shopping!!! Oh, and down the street is a most charming old-world movie theatre (Princess Theatre). I'd stay there again.
A clean, quiet hotel in a very nice neighborhood. Middle price range is justified by the overall quality. Convenient to but not in the downtown and readily accessible from the airport.. In the Old Strathcona district with many interesting shops, restaurants and other amenities nearby. Recommended.

I love staying at the Varscona on Whyte. The shopping and restaurants surrounding are great. It is close to the business function that I am there for and the room is amazing. Even the great robe and bar/snack service is better than average. The price is right. Will stay here again

Convenient & reasonable. Booked on line & thought I was booking direct instead of redirected to a booking agency. We qualified for government/seniors/hospital appointment discount but was told because we didn't book direct with the hotel the invoice was already processed.

I love staying at the Varscona when I get the chance. It is in the perfect location for a night out, and happens to be attached to the city's best Irish pub, as well as a lovely restaurant. The rooms have original art for the enjoyment of guests, and the bedding is high quality. Service is consistently excellent, and the wine and cheese in evenings […] and continental breakfasts make the stay even better. We stay at Varscona Hotel 4 to 5 times a year. It is convenient and a great location. The staff are always helpful and friendly. The rooms are very clean. There is a bar located adjacent to the hotel but we have never heard any noise from the bar. We would recommend this hotel to anyone.

"Comfortable and Nice Location"
Stayed a couple of nights on business. Room was very comfortable, bathroom clean and bright, king size bed very comfortable. Rates for the snacks and drinks in the courtesy bar were reasonable. Comp continental breakfast was bare bones but sufficed. Location wasn't downtown, but made up for it in it's proximity to Whyte Avenue nightlife, if you're into […] that. Had a complimentary wine tasting every night which was a bonus. Had a coffee shop in the lobby which was handy. Staff were friendly and efficient. I stayed at the Varscona while moving my daughter into residence at U of A. The breakfast in the morning was wonderful and wine and cheese in the evening was casual classy. It's location on Whyte Avenue allowed me to sample some unique bars and restaurants while being able to walk home. We were there the end of Aug 2011 . It was a very enjoyable stay. The rooms were clean and well maintained the staff were friendly and very helpful. It was in a convenient location and I would recommend this hotel to others.

The room was nice and clean. The front desk staff and housekeeping staff were friendly and efficient. The continental breakfast was good and the hospitality room was neat and tidy.After the bars closed along Whyte Avenue at 2:30 am we could hear a lot of hooting and hollering outside.

After a bit of a hassle checking into the hotel, we had a very good stay here. The room, breakfast and wine tasting were very nice. The location is great with lots of places to eat nearby. No noise at all which was amazing considering it was the fringe festival. I would definitely stay here again.

My wife and I had the pleasure in staying in this hotel for the past week while we attended the Fringe shows. The hotel and it's staff were very helpful and caring. All staff from housekeeping to management were very friendly and the room was very clean and spacious and quiet for a good night sleep after a hard day of Fringing. The room was well appointed.
