It's like a run-down motel in the best part of the city. The room was damp and smelled weird when we walked in. We turned on the AC and opened the windows, which seemed to help. We kept the AC during our entire stay because of it. The bedding was basic, the towels were basic, the decor was super basic. The internet was good when it was on, but was not […] working about 1/3 of the time. The hotel staff were courteous except for the receptionists who insisted none of the places we wanted to get reservations for took reservations, even though we confirmed ahead of time that these places indeed took them. Grat location. Newly renovated and well-designed but smallish rooms, decent bathroom, good breakfast, and good cleaning service but horrible wifi, basically useless. Traveling on business I'd gladly pay an extra $30 a night for a decent connection or Ethernet. This is an older hotel, but if something was wrong, they worked to make it right. It is one small block from the beach. If you are lucky enough to have the right room on a high floor, you will be able to see the ocean from your room. My reservation included breakfast, but I didn't ever try it out. The rooms and lobby have high speed internet access […] (free with my reservation). The sheets and towels were not "high quality," but they were good enough and clean with daily service. My room had an LCD TV mounted on the wall, but I do not know if it is available in all the rooms. The room had air conditioning, a small fridge with a mini-bar, and room safe. They are eager to assist with your bags, get a cab, provide assistance with local tours, etc. They lock the front door to the hotel at night, but keep a close eye on it in case you need to get in. The neighborhood is very good with several popular bars and restaurants within walking distance including a VERY LATE NIGHT bar across the street (totally busy at 3 AM, but basically empty at 9 PM). The beach close to the hotel is one of the best locations within a few miles (I know a few locals that prefer this spot when they could go anywhere in Copacobana, Leme, Leblon, or Ipanema). For the price, it is a great fit for a safe place to say in Rio. Read more

Rio is a true World City. And, Ipanema is one of the most desired places in this city. The Ipanema Inn is a great launching pad for about anything you want to do in Rio. If you bring the right expectations, you'll be very happy. If you expect this to be a "destination" hotel, you will be disappointed. This is a safe hotel in a very cool neighborhood […] with serious, but not solicitous, staff. The rooms are basic and clean, but not luxurious, not a resort. You will find yourself about one block from the beach, steps from great bars, neighborhood restaurants and shopping. This hotel is definitely a great value. Okay, the Ipanema Inn is not the fancy twin of the other thousand dollar a night hotels in Rio's beach area. But Ipanema has its own style and it is relaxed low key service for a minimal price. Inn is located in perfect location of Ipanema Beach. Lobby is small but nice with a nice art shop. Breakfast was decent with a few choices. Room was very small and difficult to maneuver past bed to bath for two persons. Old outdated 12in TV hung from ceiling with terrible sound but room was clean. We spent 2 nights. Hotel was clean. Interior superior double had Two twin size beds. Tv tiny and mounted high on wall. Hotel staff friendly and tour options available at front desk. we stayed at ipanema for four nights.. the superior room was clean, but very small.. hotel staff w/ exception of two bellman and the night desk person who also speaks french was a bit aloof. location was GREAT. couldnt' ask for better spot if u like to walk on beach. was disappointed in the service change business.. thought i had paid service charge […] when i reserved and paid by amex. got to hotel and before we were even checked in - staff told us we had prepaid for room but would own service charge upon check out. that could only b paid in cash. when we checked out - we given a bill for $50 in service charge. that again - could only b paid in cash. when queried - the staff did admit it was "not required" - but quickly added - necessary to help out staff.. we left $40 - because we also wanted to leave our luggage til our taxi came.. but this extra - cash - charge really is inappropriate and hotels.com should address this. This hotel is conveniently located half a block from Ipanema beach. As a prime area, rooms are expensive. I stayed in two different rooms, neither or which was anything special given the price. There was no free Internet. The room facing the street got noisy at times. The included breakfast was basic. I checked the box next to "recommend the hotel […] to others," but grudgingly. When I return to Rio I will research other places given the value for the price. To get to the airport, check out the special airport bus for only 9 reiais [v. about 60+ for a taxi]. You can get it right at the beach near the hotel [heading east, the lane closer to the beach], but you have to look for it and flag it down or, as I learned, it will not stop! Traffic can be heavy at times, and security was thorough at the airport, so leave yourself enough time. Read more

Even though it said on my Hotels.com receipt that it included Tax & Service, the hotel expected me to pay a service charge/tip in cash when I checked-out. The hotel is on a really nice quiet street which is a short walk from the Ipanema Metro stop. The hotel is only 1 block from Ipanema Beach and several shops and restaurants (Delicio Tropical). The staff were helpful and polite; giving good local advice. I would definitely stay at this hotel again - it is tremendous value for the location. I have stayed in worse hotels in Copacabana that cost more and Ipanema is a more upmarket area. Read more

Really not a hotel that I'll recommend to colleagues. Rooms are too small so are the beds.Looks like a student dormitory. Breakfast was OK. Internet service isn't free. TV is too small and old model.

The hotel is not more than ok. The main drawback is noise coming from public transportation in the main street near by. Decoration is old and Lobby area is tiny, doesn't feel like a real hotel. Rooms are ok yet with old decore. The feedback is not positive due to the high rates.

8 floor hotel that seemed it may have been apartments in the past. The room was small but clean and functional - about 6 to a floor. Openable window above street 1 block from Ipanema beach.The window AC was a little noisy. The overhead shower was a nice touch.

A pleasant hotel ideally located in the heart of Ipanema, a half block from the beach and in walking distance of good restaurants and shopping. The property is clean and well-kept, the staff is courteous and helpful, and an extensive breakfast buffet is included in the room rate. Probably the best value in this lovely neighborhood.

I would say the hotel is average. It's a good deal for the location, but beware if you are a light sleeper. It is on a busy street, especially with foot traffic from the neighboring bars on weekends. Had a brilliant stay. Ipanema Inn is a really good 3-star hotel. Nothing too fancy, delivered exactly to the standards it advertises. It is clean, the room would be equivalent to a typical European size. Bathroom is a shower (which was really powerful - perfect for washing sand off from the beach !) I must say that the staff service and friendliness […] was particularly good. Knowledgeable, friendly and would go out of the way to help, definitely 4-5 star service. The location is excellent too. though not a seafront view it is less than a block away from Ipanema beach, with plenty of friendly bars and restaurants within a 5 minute walk. If I was really picky i had to work a little and the wi-fi was on occasion patchy, but I'd happily use the Ipanema Inn again. For Rio prices it's good value, great location & wonderful staff. Nice hotel near Ipanema. We had a good stay at the hotel - great location. Good breakfast included. Do not pay the 15% "cash only proposal tourist tax" to the persons in the reception. This is just money straight into the pockets for the employees in the reception - and they do not deserve this.

The staff was not very helpful, their English was poor and one of them even tried to hustle us with a taxi ride to Rio's bus station. Despite having booked and paid in advance with hotels.com we were told on arrival that there would be a further 10 percent service charge added to the room bill - only when forcefully challenged did the receptionist admit that this was voluntary. This soured the start of the stay. Otherwise this is a good value for its location.
