Snorkeling and diving are popular in the small resort town of Akumal, and at Kantenah beach to the north, where the coastline runs parallel to a protected coral reef. In the summer months, sea turtles crawl onto the white-sand beaches by moonlight to lay their eggs. Yal-Ku Lagoon, once a trading route for the ancient Maya, is a bird watcher’s paradise, and can be explored by foot or kayak.see all hotels in Akumal

"Bad Hotel on Beautiful Beach"
The Oasis resorts will need some major changes otherwise it will run out of business. Located on one of the most beautiful beach of Akumal, however the hotel is understaff. Rooms are badly smelled. Only snack and 1 restaurant are open for lunch (no lunch buffet). The whole resorts have 2 cappucino machine, 1 in the italian hotel which open at 12:30 […] noon, 1 self served, both are broken during our stay. No Free Wifi even in the lobby area. "My summer vacation"
Oasis Tulum All Inclusive is very dishonest. When we booked a week vacation with them this summer, we saw beautiful photos from their Bar, lobby, and restaurants. However, those photos were not from the Oasis Tulum All Inclusive, but from the Grand Oasis Tulum, which is another all-inclusive hotel next door probably from the same owner/corporation. […] Besides that, not everything is all inclusive as they claimed there is because there is a limitation of food. For example, we only could have four bottles of water per day in our room and on top of that, the service is poor. In addition to that, they claimed that they have a night club, which is really a theater full of chairs with plain music, and a big screen. Since there was nothing else to do at night, we went there a few nights, but who ever came to the club would leave at the same time because it was so boring. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good value, nothing fancy"
We have stayed at several hotels in the mayan riviera. The Oasis Tulum is smaller than most and not at all fancy but overall a good value. The food is about average for an all inclusive resort. The beach is it's best feature. Nice floury sand, lots of space and a pretty good snorkeling reef right off the beach. There are some close coral/rock areas […] for kids or those who don't want to swim out farther and a large more lively reef about 200 yards off shore. Hardly anyone bothers to go out there so the coral it is not too trampled and you pretty much have the whole area to yourself. However, they do offer free snorkeling tours out there 3 times a day if you prefer to go in a group. There is a smallish pool right on the beach which is nice if you like to go back and forth often between the beach/pool and also a larger pool inland that has a swim up sushi bar. Both the pools and ocean water were very warm--probably 90 degrees! If you want a more luxury experience, you can upgrade to the neighboring Grand (either entirely or by the day) but the pool areas don't seem as kid friendly (we have a 5 year old). We visited during the summer and although the room AC was fine, the inside dining areas weren't really cooled at all and the outside areas didn't get much of a breeze. This is one area where the Grand was much better. Their outside eating areas had a better view and were positioned to get ocean breezes. The shows were pretty decent--theater was shared with the Grand. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Perfect vacation spot"
We had an amazing time at the Oasis Tulum. The location is private, clean, and so beautiful. You really feel like you're in paradise. The sounds of ocean and exotic birds were so relaxing. We didn't want to leave. The food was great. We ate at Arrecifes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There's a wide variety of food and it was very fresh. We also […] ate at Sarape which serves authentic Mexican food and had a live Mariachi band. The band was great. The staff is kind, friendly, and fun. They were always ready to assist and in certain cases went above and beyond the call. We were amazed at how hard the staff worked to keep the hotel and surrounding grounds clean. Thank you Angel, Oscar, and Juan from the front desk. Thank you Angel from Oasis Plus. Thank you Emmanuel from Arrecifes. Thank you Miguel and Angeles from the beach bar. You all are amazing hard working people. We went on the Mayan Adventure tour and which was excellent. Our guide Demitri aka Demi was great. He has a way of making a bunch of strangers feel comfortable with each other and just have a good time. Demi is knowledgeable, fun, and so kind. If you can ask for Demi, you'll laugh all day. He really took care of our group and checked on our members several times through the tour. The location was beautiful and filled with amazing sights. Bring a camera that can take under water pictures, you don't want to miss the wonders under the sea. Thank you Charlie from Olympus for recommending this tour. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Five Star Week"
We just spent a week at Oasis Tulum (not the Grand side) for a family "girl's holiday." It was incredible! No hassles or lack of amenities at all (and I came prepared for them). Lovely big oceanfront rooms. The only thing I would have wished for was a rug at the door for brushing off sand. Service staff were friendly & accommodating, and the activities […] staff (notably Hector, Pepe, and Domina the dance instructor) were delightful. The beach and reef are everything they say and more. May have been a slow week but never once did we have trouble finding a place to lay at the beach or pools--and we didn't once get there before 10 AM to stake our claim :-). Just sitting on the beach, watching the sea, was restful and rejuvenating. Bartenders Carlos, Ricardo, and Reynaldo were charming. Would have been nice had the pool bars stayed "officially" open past 5 PM, but a sense of humor, charm, and tipping U.S. $1 or so per drink (and please do tip, staff work hard) went a long way (Gracias, Ricardo!). Quality and generosity of drinks and food was great. Buffet had many choices available for all meals and the food was tasty with a yummy assortment of pastries, breads, and fresh fruits at all meals. Sushi bar at the activity pool was great--I recommend the octopus ceviche and vegetarian roll (cone). Dos Lunas (Italian) was magnificent. Serape (Mexican) had a marvelous ambiance. I was not terribly impressed by the Brazilian, but others were. Don't miss the fire show on the beach! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Amazing Staff & Service with A BEAUTIFUL BEACH!"
I was greeted with a smile, catered to, and was kept satisfied by an amazing staff, amazing food, and a quiet comfortable bed. We met friends forever, including members of the staff, and would definitely return to Oasis Grande. This resort was large but quaint and offered plenty to do, a wide variety of delicious foods, an incredible spa where I indulged […] in the Chocolate Massage! Plus- had secret quiet spots where you can get away from everything or everybody. I cannot say enough about the staff! Our experience was just short of amazing. Aside from being shorted the benefits of the full resort, we managed to go snorkeling on the beach wherein pools of different types of fish approach you when you feed them oatmeal, drank all day and night (be sure to order a caipirinha), spent most of the day tanning on the beach, traveled to the Tulum Ruins, […] which are just 20 mins away, traveled to Playa Del Carmen which is about 30 mins away, attended the nightly shows, which I should mention could be IMPROVED by hiring an MC, and gazed at the stars at night. It was an amazing resort, although slightly misleading. From the reservation, you're led to believe that you have access to the entire resort, but it's actually broken up into 3 sections, in which you only have access to yours. Regardless though, your portion of the resort is sufficient enough to have an amazing time. The staff is super friendly, the food is great, the pool is beautiful and the beach is amazing. Nice hotel to stay at. The food was very good. Beautiful amenities. Old pipes: the toilet would not flush, the shower was leaking. They took care of it, but still we had to change the room. "Could have been awesome..."
On check in, the hotel was overbooked and they had to move us to a sister property for 2 days. They did compensate us for this, but it was still a pain. After returning to our room 2 days later, the power went out for about 3 hours in the evening, naturally right as the wife was drying her hair for dinner. On the plus side, the property was beautiful […] and well kept, the staff very friendly and attentive, and the all-inclusive buffet and drinks were good, above average for this type of vacation, but certainly not great. After the above mentioned problems the first few days, the rest of our stay was great, and exceeded our expectations. I would probably go back, hoping that our first few days were an aberation, unless other travellers report similar problems. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This was our 2nd stay here purely because of the beautiful stretch of beach that it is on. We arrived for our stay and were told they didn't have a room for us. They offered to move us to their hotel in Cancun and upgrade, etc. We were furious since we have no desire to go to Cancun and specifically go to Akumal as we have done for years. After repeatedly […] telling them we had no interest in going to Cancun, they told us to call Expedia and have them deal with finding us another place. After waiting in the lobby for 2 hours they suddenly had a room. I have no idea if Expedia said something to them or what. The 2nd person we dealt with was was more helpful than the first. The staff here is full of nice people, but this hotel has a reputation of doing this and it is unacceptable. I don't know why they are so mismanaged. This was our last stay here. We have only been to Riu, Palace, and Iberostar resorts before so we were going into thid vacation knowing we would be disappointed. The property and hotel itself is beautiful. Our only complaints were our room smelled like a sewer, and the air conditioning did not work. The room was not stocked with drinks and room service is extra money. However, […] the room was very clean. Also, the staff were so nice and hardworking but they were completely understaffed. We felt so bad for all of the bartenders and waitresses/waiters, alot of times it was 1 waiter to 20 guests. The food was very good for being a 3 star resort. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
It was an awful experience. The main problem that owners do not say truth about this hotel. We were in this hotel seven years ago with our friends. It was small, cozy, and very nice hotel. We went there again this January 2013. When we arrived - we figured out that new owners changed everything and do not clearly tell you on their web (or on Expedia […] web site as well) that it is actually 2 hotels now. You book the room in the hotel with many restaurants, amenities but when you arrive you know that you can use less then half of restaurants and amenities. To use all of those you have to pay a significant upgrade fee (IF it is available) and you become a Grand Oasis Hotel guest (vs. just Oasis Hotel). For regular guests - the choice of drinks are awful. You can not drink that stuff strait and even in cocktails you feel the taste of cheap spirit. We stayed in Mexico many-many times in a different hotels - I never could imagine that even cheap hotel in Mexico may have such awful tequila. Once in the buffet I got a piece of spoiled butter. Thanks G-d I noticed that the butter is black and did not eat it. It was ALWAYS a shortage of chaise-lounges. For 3-4 days there were no towels - their laundry was broken. Food is so-so. SO, GRAND Oasis - is probably a 3 star hotel. If you are in regular OASIS - it is a 2-star hotel at most. Don't spoil your vacation there Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Different Strokes for Different Folks"
The Hoity toity and snobs will not like this resort. If however you are middle class and enjoy a reasonably priced fun resort then the Oasis could be for you. My wife and I had a very pleasurable week at the Oasis Tulum. We met many very nice down to earth guests and made some good friends. The staff was friendly and helpful and the building part of […] the resort was maintained quite well. On a negative side the beach was in dire need of trash pick up. We actually picked up some of the flotsam and jetsom, a job that one of their staff should have done twice a day. We saw a staff member clean the beach by burying a plastic lid in the sand. When you visit paradise you don't want to see "Big Slurpy" cups and arm rests from automobiles on the beach. The food was very average but I can live with that since the resort price was so low. I never went hungry and my thirst was always quenched. Their bartenders were efficient and very friendly. Although we had no problem we met MANY people who were told the resort was overbooked and were offered transfers to a sister resort in Cancun. When these people protested the resort some how found them rooms. Although the staff was great the mangement left alot to be desired. The social staff worked very hard to entertain guest and get them involved without being pushy. I definitely would go to this resort again. "Exceeded our expectations!"
After reading some of the reviews, I was nervous about booking at the Oasis Tulum, but the hotel, staff and food exceeded our expectations! We booked a garden room and were given an upgrade to an ocean view room without even asking. The room was a little outdated, but very large, clean and comfortable. We even had a full sized kitchen which we did not […] need since we booked the all-inclusive. The food was very good with lots of variety, although there are only 2 restaurants besides the buffet, so I could see that it would get a little boring if staying longer than 1 week. We only had lunch at the resort once because we rented a car for the week and spent quite a bit of time in the mornings and early afternoons sight-seeing and visiting different towns along the coast, which I highly recommend! The staff was exceptional...always smiling and saying hello, and ready to help with anything that was asked of them. My only two complaints are that the bars kept running out of red wine in the evenings, however, most of the time we were able to find some at one of the restaurants, and there was very little entertainment in the evenings after dinner. They had some small shows which started late (9:30 and we were always exhausted from our busy day), and the disco, which we went to once, only had 4 other people in it. We went into Playa del Carmen when we wanted some nightlife. Other than that, I would recommend this hotel and we would definitely return! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Please read - realistic pros and cons"
The resort was nice overall. The concierge was helpful, but the front desk was useless. We had a few issues at check-in, and they were not apologetic or helpful resolving issues. The buffet breakfast was delicious, lunch and dinner were mediocre. The two restaurants' food was very good. There were only one or two waiters in each restaurant, so the […] service was very slow. We were there for about two hours each night. The snack bars have delicious food. The pools and beach were very clean. Get your pool chairs early because people start saving them the night before. There are enough pools that there's something for everyone. The activities at excellent. Many fish right off the beach. Drinks were decent. Not all the bartenders are familiar with drinks that aren't on the menu, but they do have a good selection. Some bartenders were very slow to acknowledge you if you didn't tip them, which is not required. Maid service was good, but they often didn't clean our room until the mid-afternoon. The showers are not very hot. The hair dryer would kill the power at times. The water pressure was very iffy. There are movies every night. There are shows in the theatre and on the beach. We loved the quiz show that started before the main show. If you win the quiz game, you get wine. All 3 couples had fun. Some issues, but if you don't expect much from the customer service or buffet. Don't expect anything to be quickly resolved. Just enjoy the guacamole and pool. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Not a good experience"
A group of eight booked this hotel due to the extensive renovations promised by Oasis Hotels and the promise of a free upgrade to the Grand Tulum. The renovations are minimal at best and the upgrade never happened. As a result we only spent one night here before moving to the Oasis Viva in Cancun. We wanted to enjoy the snorkeling and beach at Akumal, […] but could not tolerate the poor conditions of the "resort" nor the lies told. We have no complaints regarding the Viva as that proved an adequate substitute. If you book the Grand I'd say you could enjoy a stay for a few days, but do NOT book the Tulum. Where do I begin...at check in not one person at that front desk would deal with a single customer through to the end. They would start waiting on you then move to another person before finishing with you. Could only give us one room key as there weren't enough. FINALLY get a key to a room only to find when we get to our room and swipe the key there […] is ANOTHER persons things in the room, so they gave us another room only to have yet another couple in it. Finally get us a room and we walked in and said we booked a king bed (well apparently their KING is two doubles pushed together) Had a patio with no loungers on it. Front desk told us our beach towels would be in our rooms, but they weren't. Went to pool after getting settled and there were NO chairs or loungers around pool. CONCRETE!!!! Next day went to get a shower and the water was ice cold. Let it run for a good twenty minutes and it was STILL COLD. Decided right then and there that we were leaving. Again as we were checking out not one person at the front desk worked with us personally it what a mixture of people. As we were leaving met another family that booked 3 rooms only for them to arrive and they had no rooms for them!! Needless to say they were leaving to. This was supposed to be our Honeymoon! "Cute resort with a lot of potential"
We were terrified by the reviews leading up to our vacation at Oasis Tulum and were pleasantly surprised overall. The beach is amazing and there is excellent snorkeling right outside. The hotel in general (both the grand Tulum and the Oasis Tulum) are very nice except for a few minor issues. Examples include leaky faucets, beach towels running out early […] and average food. However, we knew that the nightly rate we were paying was not going to get us the very best that Mexican luxury resorts have to offer and simply can not complain about these things the way some of the reviews have done. Our room (in Oasis Tulum) was very nice. It was clean, service was great and our room and beds were made daily. The staff generally were very friendly and helpful. We would strongly recommend carrying your own snorkeling gear and visiting neighboring beaches such as Playa Del Carmel and Tulum. The newer part of the resort is very chic and has a lot of potential, but it seems recently finished and a few finishing touches (such as hot water in small pools and jaccuzis) were not yet up and running. Overall a great vacation without any sewage smell or any of the other hellish stories mentioned in previous reviews, at least for us. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Ups & Downs"
Our room was on the second floor, and housekeeper kept our room in great condition. He made towel animals for us every day, fixed the curtains, and added two bottles of water for us as well. Only one other room was given water from our group of 9 (4 rooms), and they do not stock it with beer and soda, as listed on their website. If you would like to […] use the safe, it's $4 a night. MAJOR down side - a couple had their room broken into TWICE. The first time the thief stole both iphone chargers and the girl's iphone. The second night one charger was returned, but the thief also left something else... in their toilet. They were on the first floor, so be careful. Another couple did not have their room cleaned for three days straight. The bar & restaurant choices are not as extensive as they make it out to be online, most require you to be upgraded to Grand. The buffet was the only option for breakfast, the dinner options were only the buffet, an Italian place, and a Mexican place. We were all please with the lunch choices, so mostly skipped breakfast and held out for those. As for the bars, there were two swim-ups connected to the main pool, a sports bar, and one near the beach. The beach was nice, but once you go in the water, expect rocks. Infinity pool is for upgraded use only. Entertainment staff was great – especially Fredy and David. The best bartender was Fernando, who seemed to be a very hard worker. This hotel is under new management and under new name - Oasis Tulum (old names: Grand Oasis, BeLive). New management is working very hard to fix all different issues this hotel had in the past. I can't say enough about the beach!!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Watch your feet for cockroaches!!"
The majority of the staff, bell boy, restaurant staff, etc. was wonderful. The front desk had no idea what they were doing and really put a bad taste in our mouth for what should have been a relaxing vacation. Our room was right next to the laundry room, so you heard metal wheels on the tile going up and down the hall early in the morning and late at […] night. There were cockroaches in our room day and night, when we threw them away new ones would pop up. We asked if an upgrade was an option and they said sure, but it took a day and half to make it work. First they gave us keys to a room already occupied, opps sorry, then they gave us 2 double beds when we had a king, etc. We wasted so much of our 4 days going back and forth, we were so frustrated by the time we left. We would never go back to this place!!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"The only review you will ever need."
If you are looking for a quiet, no frills vacation with a beautiful beach, nice pools, and good food, this is it. Since the resort did not have enough umbrellas and chairs, I had to be up by 6 am to claim mine for the day. Beach- was beautiful and groomed each morning by resort staff. The sand was as soft as sugar and the water, a turquoise blue. Lots […] of beautiful fish but bring your own snorkel. Pools- were clean, refreshing and lovely. The Spiderman pool hosted a swim up bar for children and one for adults. If you bring your own insulated mug, they will fill it up with the beverage of your choice, even alcoholic. Food- Four restaurants (Italian, Brazilian, Gourmet and Asian), a buffet, and a Sushi Bar for. Reservations are needed for any restaurant other than the buffet. I thought the food was great. There was a lot of variety and food was plentiful. The buffet was open morning, lunch and dinner. Some people complained that bacon was available every morning. Cleanliness- the staff kept the resort immaculate. The staff was friendly and worked their tails off but do not expect to be catered to, they do not have enough staff. Evening shows - I only attend one, a live Mexican dance show in the theater. The dancers were excellent and very professional. The theater had a wooden floor stage so the tapping of the dancers feet drowned out the music being danced to. The theater lacked acoustics which detracted from the performance. Rooms- were very clean but in need of repair. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
