"Great potential, but ....."
I got a mixed feeling; this is the second time there and this time is like they desperately need a infusion of capital ( money ) they are letting it going down. I heard that they just changed ownership or the owner ( spanish ) just get it back from a renter company ( Italian ). This Hotel got all the potential; super prime location, building is very […] good ( just a little more maintenance ), and definitely more staff. The three gourmet restaurant ( italian, chinese, mexican ) are superb !!!. On the other side the buffet .... 2 stars out of 5. They are cutting corners , like charge you for the safe box ( nobody charge for that anymore ); they used to have free kayaks, pedal boats, etc ... not anymore. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Not very many workers new English....however the resort was amazing. The food was probably the best part! We thought the beach was georgeous and loved how many pools there where because they were never crowdedGenuine Expedia guest review
For the price, this is a solid all-inclusive. The food was great, the service was great and the location is beautiful. Awesome snorkeling right off the beach, plus beautiful sandy swimming area. Close to area attractions, such as Yal Ku Lagoon and Tulum. Some minor inconsistencies, such as no kayaks or snorkeling equipment are available even though […] they are advertised on their website. Not perfect or high-end, but still very nice. I would return. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"get transport from airport to hotel ahead of time"
The hotel itself was incredible with in my opinion the prettiest beach in the area. The staff were wonderful, very attentive and friendly. The food and drinks were plentiful and delicious as well with the a la carte restaurants being a favorite for dinner and the sushi beach bar the lunch favorite. I wish we would have rented a car from the airport; […] the taxi drivers try to scam you. We did get a shuttle to playa del carmen for 300 pesos which was a great deal!! Just came back for a second time. They still have some kinks to work out, but what they lack they make up for in service!! It's a smaller property so if you are looking for big crazy resort fun, this is not for you! Food is okay, very good in the restaurants, and plentiful! Thae beach is excellent!! "Watch your feet for cockroaches!!"
The majority of the staff, bell boy, restaurant staff, etc. was wonderful. The front desk had no idea what they were doing and really put a bad taste in our mouth for what should have been a relaxing vacation. Our room was right next to the laundry room, so you heard metal wheels on the tile going up and down the hall early in the morning and late at […] night. There were cockroaches in our room day and night, when we threw them away new ones would pop up. We asked if an upgrade was an option and they said sure, but it took a day and half to make it work. First they gave us keys to a room already occupied, opps sorry, then they gave us 2 double beds when we had a king, etc. We wasted so much of our 4 days going back and forth, we were so frustrated by the time we left. We would never go back to this place!!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"The only review you will ever need."
If you are looking for a quiet, no frills vacation with a beautiful beach, nice pools, and good food, this is it. Since the resort did not have enough umbrellas and chairs, I had to be up by 6 am to claim mine for the day. Beach- was beautiful and groomed each morning by resort staff. The sand was as soft as sugar and the water, a turquoise blue. Lots […] of beautiful fish but bring your own snorkel. Pools- were clean, refreshing and lovely. The Spiderman pool hosted a swim up bar for children and one for adults. If you bring your own insulated mug, they will fill it up with the beverage of your choice, even alcoholic. Food- Four restaurants (Italian, Brazilian, Gourmet and Asian), a buffet, and a Sushi Bar for. Reservations are needed for any restaurant other than the buffet. I thought the food was great. There was a lot of variety and food was plentiful. The buffet was open morning, lunch and dinner. Some people complained that bacon was available every morning. Cleanliness- the staff kept the resort immaculate. The staff was friendly and worked their tails off but do not expect to be catered to, they do not have enough staff. Evening shows - I only attend one, a live Mexican dance show in the theater. The dancers were excellent and very professional. The theater had a wooden floor stage so the tapping of the dancers feet drowned out the music being danced to. The theater lacked acoustics which detracted from the performance. Rooms- were very clean but in need of repair. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Don't do it!"
We booked through expedia and did not get the room we paid for or expected. We booked a balcony room with a garden view and walked into a room with no balcony that had a dumpster view...literally three dumpsters right outside our window. We proceeded to the washroom and were greeted by two huge cockroaches. The toilet would not flush and there was no […] hot water to shower with. We demanded another room and the woman at the fromt desk agreed that we did not get the right room but was unable to move us because there was no available rooms at that time...manager no where to be found. Needless to say 2 days and 2 nights later we had a room change, but not without headache, disappointment and a waste of valuable vacation time. Rumor has it that this hotel will be closing after spring break...hence why management and the lobby personnel can care less about all the complaints. And let me tell you we were not the only guests complaining. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The condition of the Hotel itself was so so. The problem(s) were that they were supposed to have snorkel gear but never did even if you got there when they opened. The customer service was horrible - we were supposed to have drinks in our fridge (who did not work by the way) and never got them, even after calling the service desk every time their answer was in 30 minutes; and we never got anything delivered; food was ok, not great; rooms were horrible and needed desperately update - our shower was leaking and […] never got fixed after 3 times we call and got the same answer - in 30 minutes; we did not have pressure in the bathroom sink the first 2 days, but luckily after i filed a complaint with the concierge it did get fixed; i can write a lot more , but please take my advice and go to other resorts - it is worth spending the extra couple hundred bucks :) Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A decent hotel"
We spent a week in the middle of March 2012 and wanted to say that despite a few shortcomings, there are some great things about this hotel. Yes, the rooms look a bit dated but the cleanliness is impecable and the beds are extremely comfortable. As a plus, the sheets get changed every day. The beach is truly amazing - I have never seen clearer water. […] You can actually see some small fish swimming and, I hear, you can snorkel around it too. As a plus to me, the hotel is small so it has a cozy feeling about it. Some of the shortcomings are that staff even at the reception are not fluent in English and it just doesn't feel like there is strong management. Some small things could be better - like have more variety at the buffet (although the food itself was great and there were tons of healthy options), they could buy more swimming masks, etc. But, overall, this is a value hotel so don't expect lobster dinners but be realistic about where it stands on the price scale and thus the services you will get. "Everything OUTSIDE of our room was amazing."
Great value. But it is odd to see that faucets are opening in the wrong direction, no hot water because the pilot light was off - the plumber on duty came fast and reset it telling to wait 20 min to get hot water. Great news when you have a restaurant reservation in 15 min. Room service was coming between 3 and 5 p.m. when all civilized world is having […] a siesta... So we had to get up and leave to have our room cleaned or cancel until the next day. There is an ongoing drama between the condo people and the resort guests (condo buildings where we were staying are about half private, half resort operated. It's all about sharing the palapas and the chaises longues on the beach like we supposed to know the rules the locals are following. Remember to get up at 6-7 am to reserve yours, they VERY limited. Waiters are expecting you tips and if you don't, they remember you and make faces as they serve you. Maybe the staff should be reminded that we tipped them already. "Great Beach, Okay Food"
The location is fabulous. Our Ocean Front rooms was truly Ocean Front. The Beach is the best in the vicinity with soft white sand and great snorkeling literally steps from the shore. Water shoes are a must however, as there are some rocks and some very spikey sea urchins out further from shore. Beach chairs do really get snapped up before 6 AM, so plan […] on rising early to get a spot. Didn't see any kayaks, or where you could get snorkeling gear (brought our own). The biggest disappointment was the lack of communication from staff in regards to dinning options and the facilties in general. Many staff do not speak any English. Also, the alcoholic drinks did not seem to have much alcohol in them. Food was only okay, but we only expected okay from a fairly inexpensive all inclusive. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Be Live was grand"
Overall we enjoy the hotel. Grounds are very beautiful. We upgraded to the OceanView. I highly recommend this. At first my husband wanted to be on the ground level but we were placed on the third floor. After one day we were very happy with being up high and having a much more spectacular view. The AC was not the greatest in the room but being able […] to leave the door open and have the breeze from the ocean gave our room a comfortable feel. Checking in does need some work, they are not the most informative, or helpful, but the rest of the staff were friendly, pleasant, and willing to help. Tips is highly recommended it will get you a lot farther and thats what the people of Mexico live for not their low wages. The food in the specialty restaurants was very good, the buffet was average. We would stay here again and recommed it to family and friends. No it is not a 5 start hotel but for the money it was very nice. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"BeLive means believe! A great get away resort."
We had a wonderful relaxing time at BeLive (believe) Grand Mayan Resort. It is a hidden gem on the Mayan Riviera, away from all the busy life and fluff that one would find at the big and busy resorts. If you need to get away from it all, BeLive is a great place to go. The beach is less than 100 ft from the dining and activities centers, they have three […] large pools located near the resort rooms, and six restaurants to provide a variety of food styles. We enjoyed the Italian and Gourmet restaurants the best, plus the numerous bars around the grounds. It is not a Sandals or Secrets resort, but you will recognize that the people that go there are looking for a relaxing time at an affordable price! The staff was wonderful, outside of the main counter. If you wanted anything done, ask a bell-hop. The bell-hops were the "bankers", if you needed change, they were the go-to people.Akumal, a sleepy little community just south of the BeLive resort, is a great place to visit early in the morning, go snorkeling and see the turtles and fish, have breakfast and walk back along the shoreline to BeLive, about 3 km in distance. If you want loud, wild, night life, Playa Del Carmen has CoCo Bongo, just a 30km taxi ride from BeLive. . Did I mention that divers and snorklers come here from all over the world? A great diving reef to explore lies just off shore and stretches over ten kms. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Wonderful time at Be Live Riviera Maya 2012"
What a wonderful trip to the Riviera Maya. Be Live was a lovely resort, with really great staff. We were pleasantly surprised because we were'nt expecting much after reading all of the reviews. There were a few things that need improvement, as the hotel is aging, but the staff is always at work cleaning and maintaining the resort. Armondo, the hotel […] manager is amazing! He set up a lovely moonlit dinner for us on our last day. George the bartender is a blast...check him out on the rooftop bar after 11pm. The beach was beautiful...we snorkeled right off the beach and saw many colorful fish and reefs. I fell in love with the delicious fruit smoothies available in the pool bar. Try the Akumal smoothie. Yum! The food was good, especially in the gourmet restaurant. We ate the buffet for breakfast and lunch and made reservations for dinner each night in one of the five different restaurants. The reservations arent that hard to deal with. Just wait at 530pm each evening for a time either 630, 730 or 830. Beds were nice and soft. Grab your towel and chair as early as possible as it is true that they fill up quick and run out. We never saw anyone camping out on the sand, so people must ave found chairs. Tons of French Canadian and Argentinian people here...we were the minority as amercians, so that was interesting. Oh! Do bring your own insulated mug for drinks. Overall, we had a wonderful expeience and can't wait to go back! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Hotel reportedly has changed hands again. Signs of wear and tear but it looks to be on the up swing (might have been 5 stars in its glory days but consensus that this is 3 stars is more accurate). Great location for relaxing away from the spring break scene. Good jumping off to sights south of Cancun. You won't get this close to the water for the money […] - we got an upgrade right on the beach which made the vacation something special. The cafeteria food is ok (missed real butter and the breads and desserts are a bit thin but good fruits and sauces). The specialty restaurants are good - get in line early to reserve a spot for one of the two seatings. Hosted events if you like as well as on scene agents for setting up your excursions. Although all inclusive, plan on tipping - especially for transportation and guides on excursions - bring $1s or convert some currency to pesos for a better deal. No direct access to water sports here other than free snorkel equipment. Though there is a reef, you'll find better experiences just up the coast - Akumal is nearby and guaranteed to see the turtles. Watch your beach towels - $15 if you lose one and we had one missing after room service. Take the local buses - collectivos - short walk from the hotel and much cheaper than a cab, clean, run every 10-15 minutes, and stop all one the way from Tulum to Cancun - take a trip into Playa del Carmen. It's a short walk from the stop into the 5th Ave strip. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"We had an amazing time and the beach was beautiful!"
The staff was amazing (especially Martin and Oscar). Some tips: -Public transportation is the best way to get around since it is only $3 and has a far reach, such as Playa Del Carmen. You can pick it up at any avenue near the hotel (about a 5 min. walk). You just stand on the side of the street and the white van picks you up. I believe it runs 5am-1am. -There […] is a bellhop at the hotel named Oscar who speaks English flawlessly and is very helpful when it comes to finding out where/how to get around and get the best prices so find him if you need any help. He is great! -We wanted to go on a few tours and found that some of the best prices were offered at the WalMart in Playa Del Carmen. -The hotel is about 1-1.5 hours from the Cancun airport. If you want to save some money and your travel times allow, you can take a taxi into Playa Del Carmen and then take public transit to the hotel (they will actually drop you off right at the entrance to the hotel). -If you want to go to the Tulum ruins, you don't need to take an expensive tour since it's a public park and there is simply an entrance fee of approximately $7. There are several walking tours you can listen in on. -When you get to the hotel, ask for the restaurant schedule and activity schedule for the week since they don't automatically give it to you. -Get to the restaurants by 6pm to make reservations since they fill up fast. -Ask for double drinks so they are stronger and bring a coffee mug to keep them cold. the first room that we were given, had a broken lock on the back door and the air did not work. The second room had no working air either. The third room was not much better and we decided to give up and stay in that one. However, the water shut off in the middle of a shower and the water was out in the whole complex for several hours. Then the electricity […] went out and was in and out all day. The room was never cleaned until after 6pm. On to the food and drink, You could not order drinks or soda until after 10 am and half of the restaurants were always closed. In order to get into one, you had to go at 630pm when it opened and either be one of the first in line or eat at the second seating, if available, at 830. BTW, the food was horrible. We loved this resort! The van ride from the airport is about 90 minutes, but it was fun to sightsee along the way. Check in was fast and easy, no complaints there! The beach is absolutely stunning. We walked to Akumal and other resorts, Be Live had by far the prettiest beach, with lots of fun colorful fish for snorkeling. The beach was the best part […] of our trip, crystal clear water. This is not a "party" resort, it is very quiet and serene, which is what we were looking for, so perfect for us. Our expedia rep(Jaime) at the hotel was wonderful, helped us to book fishing trips and Xcaret. Our room was very cozy, air conditioning worked great, beds were really comfy. Our room was cleaned daily, the maids left us some fun towel decorations with fresh flowers everyday. Our minibar was stocked daily with soda and water also. Buffet is good, breakfast is great with made to order omelets. There is a snack menu that you can ask about with club sandwiches, burgers, etc. in case you get tired of the local fare. The ala carte restaurants were fun, food was really good there. The staff at this resort work so very hard to make sure it is clean and the guests are happy. We were very happy about our stay. "Three stars is a little to generous"
The pros: great sand and water, enough palapas. It didn't get cleaned quite enough. The main pool was okay - small but never crowded. The cons: The food was disgusting at both the buffet and restaurants. Only the breakfast was tolerable since there was an omelette station. The Asian and Mexican restaurants were terrible. The steak at the Mexican place […] seemed to have been boiled then fried. The drinks were so bad that we had to quit drinking by day 3 and we really just take these vacations for beaches and drinking. The liquor is cheap plus, they were definitely watering it down. Beer was served in 8 oz Dixie cups and was giving me headaches AS I was drinking it. The management failed miserably. We booked a room with a King size bed but got one with double bed. The only way to switch rooms was to check out at 11 and not get a new room until 3 pm, which we were willing to do without complaint. Once we got there a room was no longer available; one became available only after I was getting irate. If you don't make a scene you are stuck with double beds for your whole stay. Front desk doesn't even answer the phone. The fridge was not restocked, except for once after I went to the front desk 3 times. Other people were late because their room didn't have a clock (our first room didn't have one) and the front desk failed to call them. Bar-service is also great, especialy Victor - very frinedly bar-man who makes excellent drinks. Some comments to managment, they should realy expand veriaties of available alcohol, since last year (I stayed there a year ago) it whent down - there is only one type of tequila and definetly not the good quality. ""Good for the price and proximity to ruins, cernotes, and reef""
I have stayed in nicer resorts. The buildings are getting older. They could use upgrades soon with the doors, tile, etc. There were a few tiny ants that stayed in one location in our bathroom that found my tums tablets on the counter. I threw them away and it was fine after that. The staff was super nice and helpful. The hot water was hit or miss at […] times. I really enjoyed the "wild-life" around the resort. There were 3 peacocks, many geckos, and a few iguanas. If you don't like those things being around, don't stay here. The food was fine. It was a little confusing since the restaurants change the type of food being served depending on the night. The Mexican and gourmet Mexican was the best they had to offer, in my opinion. The best thing about this place would be it's proximity to the sea turtles, sting rays, squid, and pretty fish that you can see snorkeling about 10 minutes south at Akumal Beach Resort. That resort isn't as nice of a facility as Be Live, but it has better snorkeling do to the grass that grows. Just take a taxi there, walk in through the public access beach to snorkel on your own. You can also snorkel at Be Live, but there isn't as much to see. We did see some fish, a barracuda, and two squid. it is only 20 minutes north of the Mayan ruins in Tulum, which was really neat. One thing that disappointed us was that the website said they have sailing, but they don't anymore. The only thing they have is 6 set's of snorkeling gear and you have to wait your turn. My two young daughters and I arrived on a Tuesday in July, and a few hours later the power went out. The power was out from that […] Tuesday and was still out on the Friday afternoon when we eventually were transferred by the hotel to the Grand Oasis in Cancun. Everyone congregated in the lobby each evening since it was the only place with light, and as the days without power went on, food choices dwindled to the point that on the last day for lunch our only option was a burger or guacamole (not what I paid for). The sand, water and the beach were lovely and the only thing that kept us going. This trip was a disappointment. The resort we relocated to was nice, however, I had not intended to vacation in Cancun. Understandably, this was out of the control of the staff, however I did expect better service and some sort of compensation offered for this experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Great value, all inclusive! High quality buffet and options. Nightly shows were amazing. The staff overall were friendly and helpful. The beach was beautiful In the morning we'd go snorkel and the fish were right there.would recommend for families.stayed mid June 2013Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The location is great! You're near to do all the best activity and the beach is beautiful. The food is good but you will have to pay for good bear, good tequila and bigger restaurant (if your not at the Gran). Important thing to know about, the information you get on the website is confusing! Like most of the bars, restaurants and the beautiful swimming […] pool that you seen on the picture are reserved to the Gran Oasis, so if you don't have access to the Gran your not aloud to go. For me it didn't matter because I found the other bars much funnier and the other swimming pool as beautiful than the gran. That place is a mix of every type of people: family, couple, single and you can do party or relaxing, but this is really not a place to make big party every night! "Probably not coming back"
This was a good option money-wise. Overall our stay was good, but we had some bad experiences. We didn't enjoy the activities offered at the pool since they where too loud. The beach is awesome!! But they should have a system to do reservations for the chairs. By 7am all of the chairs where "taken" in the beach and pool areas. Towels where placed on […] them making them unavailable. We where up early every day and we still couldn't get chairs or find a shade. We usually enjoy cool pools, but this was extremely cold. Food was not great, it was OK. Calling the concierge to make a reservation for specialty restaurants was like flipping a coin and praying they would answer. If the concierge was not there they asked us to walk to the concierge of the hotel next door, the Grand Oasis, because they couldn't transfer the calls!! HILARIOUS!! So we only got one reservation (out of three nights) for a specialty restaurant and it was at the mexican place called El Sarape and it was fine. I repeat, you get what you pay for and it is an OK hotel. Overall staff was very rude, the guy at the Nori Sushi Bar at the pool was the worst. We wouldn't even finish ordering and he was already turning his back on us. AWFUL! We had a good time as a family, just avoid asking staff for help. Checking in and checking out was nightmare!! If you don't care that much about how people treat you while vacationing, this place is great for you. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
