"Great mother and daughter or couples weekend break"
Very good value for money - nice spa and friendly staff. Well situated for sightseeing, walking and shopping.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Close to local amenities and relatives to visit."
Comfortable, clean, with welcoming, helpful staff and good meals. Large car park, and excellent location for touring Derbyshire Dales.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Small, uncomfortable beds in a hot hotel!"
Too hot in roomsGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Regular customer, so used to this hotel. All fine for business use; just tends to get busy on front desk in early evening, so external callers trying to phone in often find it difficult to get the hotel switchboard to answer. You have to listen to menu options several times (over many minutes) until a real person answers. This is a regular occurren […] ce. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was OK. Staff were very proffesional. I found the bed to be much too soft and only a double (many hotels now have kingsize as a matter of course) and the room was very hot (freak good weather) but no air conditioning. Hotel felt a little 'tired'Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel for a short stay"
We really enjoyed our stay at the Detrbyshire hotel, the staff were very friendly and helpful, our room was clean and comfortable, the spa was an added extra as we were able to relax in the hotels pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub. The breakfast was excellent there was plenty to choose from.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Close to motorway & shopping centre"
Hotel very convenient for motorway and exploring Derbyshire. Bed so comfortable we overslept and missed breakfast, but it was Very quiet area. Would stay again if in the area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Our overnight stay was very comfortable and made even pleasanter by the warmth of the service we received. The night we were there there was a fairly large wedding but this in no way affected our comfort and enjoyment. The room was very modern, clean and well maintained; the beds were comfortable. The only criticism for a twin room there should be two […] bath and hand towels; a few biscuits in the room would be appreciated. But these are minor criticisms for the standard was generally high. The staff was uniformly welcoming. Very convenient to the motorway too. We stayed on to watch the Wimbledon final! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
very nice, the breakfast arrangements were not very good,we had to queue for 15 minutes to get a table.but every thing else was very good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Really comfortable bed bathroom and bedroom both clean. The breakfast was not very appealing the eggs were laying in fat and the coffee was cold. Leisure facilities were great although the pool was a little small to accomadate the ammount of people using it. On the whole not up to 4 star standard needs a little tweeking.Genuine Expedia guest review
Expectations were for a hotel near the location of an evening out and some lesuire facilities. Room, bathroom and lesuire facilities are showing their age but are spotlessly clean. Every member of staff we encountered was pleasant, appropriately informed and generally nice to deal with.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Took 40 minutes to check in with less than helpful staff, bed was so soft that it dipped in the middle and was not a good night's sleep. Spa was pretty nice, as was breakfast. Decor is a bit old and could do with a refurb.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to roads, sights etc"
We stayed for 3 nights and were very comfortable in this hotel. The buffet breakfast was great and I would think made for less waste of food. The bed was so comfortable (apart from the quilt being a little too warm) that we ordered new pillows from the same company when we returned home. We only had one evening meal at the hotel, as these were a little […] on the expensive side, but the meal we had was well worth the money and was very enjoyable. Shopping and sight-seeing were very convenient. Countryside beautiful. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Four star hotel which is correctly rated"
The location of the hotel is ideal, situated just off the motorway. The staff were very attentive and helpful. The leisure complex was good but the changing rooms would have benefited from a good clean, although to be fair, we only used it towards the end of the day. The breakfasts were very good and dinner was also very nice and good vfm. Wine was […] a bit over-priced starting from about £20 a bottle! All in all, we would be very happy to recommend the Derbyshire Hotel to anyone and will probably stay there again. The bedroom was hot which meant that we needed to open the window to control the temperature and being so close to the motorway meant that we could (just) hear the traffic (not loud enough to disturb sleep however - and I am a light sleeper!) "The best hotel staff"
Whoever is responisble for training the staff here deserves a pat on the back! The whole team were charming - every member I met, from cleaners to managment, had time to greet me and make me feel welcome. The hotel decor is a touch dated, but the things that matter to me, ans a female business traveller, were all great. They provided a comfy bed with […] quality linen, iron and board, a secure room with door chain, nice room service menu, and lovely pool and gym. "Comfort and Friendliness at The Derbyshire"
This was a comfortable hotel and the staff were freindly and helpful throughout. It was a bonus having the chance to accomodate my dogs - although the supplement of £30 was rather steep! The leisure facilities were great. The only negative was the VERY noisy radiator in our room that filled each morning at 4.45am.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Room service menu"
The room service menu selection was very light, I assume they wanted you to eat in the restaurant. Everything else was fine. The staff very friendly and next time I may even try out the gym.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"The Derbyshire Hotel - a thumbs up!"
I have to say that after booking the hotel and then reading the reviews - it was with some trepidation that we went along. The hotel from the outside looks a bit dark and foreboding (but hey it is winter!) however on walking through the front door the reception area was beautiful - clean and bright. We had a very spacious double room on the first floor, […] comfortable and clean with plenty of storage space and a fridge! The bathroom was spacious and very clean and if I was to say anything negative it would be that the furniture was a wee bit dated and the TV's picture was not brilliant - but hey if that's all then there is not much to complain about. The pool and spa area at night was lovely - very clean and romantically lit and we enjoyed a very relaxing couple of hours there. The staff we met were friendly and helpful and we had a lovely cooked buffet breakfast. Good distance from the Outlet Village - literally 5 mins in the car and across the road from a Beefeater pub. All in all a def. 4 out of 5 ! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"The Derbyshire Hotel"
The hotel is well positioned and close to the motorway. The staff are very friendly and helpful. However the hotel is let down by its condition. In our room there was a lot of mould on the windows. In the lounge/bar area the carpets are looking tired and it is plain to see where the carpets are joined, it is becoming threadbear. Also the prices in the […] bar and for food was we felt exessive for the standard. My favourite thing about this hotel is that I found the bed to be soooo comfortable that I slept like a baby! We didn't use the bar or leisure facilities so can't comment on them. In my opinion this hotel is worth the 4 stars. The hotel's location is great for the outlet shopping complex and close enough for a drive into the Peak District. The worst Principal Hotel I ever experienced. The worst receptionist representing hotel ever experienced. If you want to be hustled for your credit card details while you eating your breakfast - welcome to Derbyshire Principal Hotel. Regardless that you provided all details to receptionist the night before- you are still chased like wild animal during […] your breakfast. When problem addressed to receptionist - the patronising and absent tonality of the voice and attitude of Alcatraz was hurled back to me. " That is not my problem Sir" - is the patronising and angry response of this Receptionist, who would probably get a successful carrier as Prison Guard but certainly not a front person representing very known Hotel Group. Room - it was not cleaned properly, towels contained hair from cleaners or whoever else. Bad was like a trampoline and cushions were neck braking. You would probably need to book therapy and serious massage after spending night in such a bad. Water was dripping like from Arizona's desert cactus - no pressure, taps broken. Shell I continue - I could overcome Tolstoy's War and Peace in volume of complaints towards this Hotel. The Hotel Manager was informed in details and is now fully aware that there is a massive problem with his Hotel Team. I stayed 4 days at Hotel and when I was leaving I noticed that Receptionists were smiling and greeting their visitors - That could be the new beginning of Derbyshire Hotel and I hope that my vigorous complaint would provide to other guest the treatment and service they paid for and expect to get. It is not difficult to smile and be pleasant - in service you do not have attitude and many people do forget that. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

I stayed couple of nights at the Hotel with my wife and it was fantastic. The room was clean and spacious. The staff was very friendly. We were not charged for breakfast even though it was not included in our room rate. Definitely will stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Better than the PI next door! "
Large carpark, pleasant reception staff. So far much more pleasurable than PI. Room was clean and presentable but the old cathode TV was disappointing. I didn't stay for dinner but the breakfast was good. Check out was swift and overall a good stay bar for the TV. Will book again.

My partner and I stayed here on June 28th during a visit to nearby Matlock Bath. Although we were originally disappointed to find the hotel was 13miles away from Matlock (and right by the motorway), instead of the 6 miles quoted online, we were very impressed with the hotel itself. On arrival the staff were helpful and pleasant and the room was neat and tidy. After originally intending to pop to Matlock to a pub for dinner, we decided to dine in the hotel restaurant and were very impressed. The menu was varied, the food was lovely and the service was great. We could not believe the high standard and quality of the restaurant. I would certainly recommend this hotel to others and if we ever go to the area again, we would be happy to stay at The Derbyshire Hotel.
"Good hotel but nothing special"
07/08/14 SleepyNeil Skawina, Poland
Large room but furniture outdated, comfortable bed and given the location near main roads surprisingly quiet. The only two real downsides was the fact that the restaurant for breakfast is really too small to cope and the food for conference participants was nothing special.
"Ok for the price"

Stayed this weekend for two nights and paid £130. The price was discounted I think as the leisure facilities are out of action! I think what we paid was fair as in my opinion it is no better than a premiere inn, in fact I've stayed at better premiere inns! There is one NXT door as it happens!! The hotel has the feel of needing a little tlc! Although nothing to really complain about I would have been very disappointed if I had paid the normal room rate!!
"relaxing, comfortable stay, great breakfast and spa"
07/05/14 jujuhall northampton
My husband and I have visited The Derbyshire on 7 occasions. Each visit has been great. We always feel comfortable in this hotel and lots to see in surrounding areas a good base. Rooms are a bit dated but always clean. Bar area is nice to sit relax and have a nightcap. Spa is good, steam room is great , pool a good size. Breakfast is fantastic, so much variety and topped up regular, staff very helpful and friendly. Only downside this visit was children in the swimming pool , took over most of the pool and we did not go in until after 7.15pm we were only in pool 5 mins got out .Should really be a cut off time for children.

I joined friends for a Groupon Spa day at the Derbyshire recently. I thought the idea of groupon was to encourage good feedback and recommendations, somethimg I would not do for this spa day experience. On arrival we were told we could not book additional treatments as they were full, ( we telephoned two weeks prior to book extra treatments and were told to just book on the day!). The swimming pool was available to use but the whirlpool jacuzzi was broken due to a boiler breaking down! Lunch was provided - we were supposed to eat in a relaxation room but were told that as there were 5 of us there would not be enough room! The room had 5 seats. Instead we were told not to worry we will put you privately in a conference room. This room was set out for business meetings with flip charts and note pads. Hardly a relaxing experience on a spa day to be reminded of work! They had only preperaed 4 lunches so one of our party had to wait 20 mimutes for her lunch. No refreshments were offered. We had to ask for a jug of water. Back to the pool after lunch and treatments for a lie down. ( the treatments werer lovely). On departure we experienced freezing cold showers as the boiler of course was broken. The staff were very polite throughout the day however the point of the spa being to relax was taken away by lack of working facilities and a corporate lunch. I wouldnt be recommending a spa day here to anyone. I believe the spa was to be refurbished the following week however as a paying customer I would still expect the same adequate facilities that I would hope would be provided after the refurb.
"Nice weekend break"

We stayed there on Friday and Saturday evening in June and thought it was pleasant and good value. We checked in on the afternoon and the receptionist was very efficient and polite. The room and bathroom was clean and the shower worked well. I noted someone's comments re old fashioned TV which was very true and was somewhat surprised they had not been updated. We did not use the restaurant so cannot comment but used the Brewers Fayre across the road which was very good (see separate review). The beds were comfortable and our room was quiet even though there was a wedding party. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice and the cooked food was hot. I used the gym which was relatively small but all of the equipment worked well and the air conditioning worked well. There is not much around the hotel but it is convenient for the popular Derbyshire tourist spots We would certainly use it again and parking is not an issue
"Pleasant but dated"
The brochure pictures probably raised my expectations of the hotel so I'm a little disappointed. The staff are very friendly & helpful, it is very clean with decent facilities in the gym & pool. The room is clean & reasonable size. So why am I dissapointed? Some might think some of my comments petty but still here they are. The TV is an old cathode ray bulbous monstrosity with poor snowy picture, only 5 channels & no TV guide. A wet towel which I had used 4 times & left on the floor for the laundry had been folded up & put on the bath side, toilet roll not replaced. I'm staying on the lower level near the spa & it's hot, the corridors are a bit gloomy too, it needs sprucing up. I noticed other comments on TripAdvisor about ample parking my experience is different the last 2 nights it's been packed with cars abandoned everywhere & parked on double yellow lines. I would still return just a little disappointed, I feel slightly guilty using there free WiFi to write & post this
"Nice weekend stay"

We only had night at this hotel. Its actual location is near housing, but it is near to some beautiful countryside so is a good base. The room we had was spacious (for a couple and a young child), clean and well-equipped. The hotel facilities such as the pool were good, too. We had a stay which included an evening meal as well as a breakfast. The buffet breakfast was very good with lots to choose from and you didn't feel rushed. The evening meal was all right. I'm glad we had it included in our deal as the restaurant was quite pricey. The food was really nice, but the portions were Cordon Bleu size. However, I would have to recommend the sticky toffee pudding with brandy snap and butterscotch sauce as one of the most delicious desserts I have ever eaten! The staff were friendly and helpful.

We recently returned from a stay at the hotel on a travelzoo deal and were very impressed. The staff couldn't be more helpful and very friendly and the food was excellent. Really enjoyable stay. Thank you.
