"Derbyshire stopping point"
Excellent location just off Junction 28 of the M1. Ideal for visits to Chatsworth, Bolsover Castle and Hardwick Hall. Also close to Designer Outlet Centre for the clothes shopper! Staff were friendly and approachable. Room was clean, with good added facilities; iron, ironing board, hair dryer and trouser press. Fitness centre was a bonus. Free of charge, […] with gym, pool, jacuzzi and sauna. Again these were nice and clean. Evening meal was particularly good. On the negative side; Service in the bar could have been better. The buffet breakfast suffered a similar problem to other hotels with long a delay for hot food items to be replenished. Wanted to start a 'tab' but could only do so with a credit card and not a debit card. Having said all that, overall very good value for money, and would happily stay there again. Too hot in roomsGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Regular customer, so used to this hotel. All fine for business use; just tends to get busy on front desk in early evening, so external callers trying to phone in often find it difficult to get the hotel switchboard to answer. The hotel was OK. Staff were very proffesional. I found the bed to be much too soft and only a double (many hotels now have kingsize as a matter of course) and the room was very hot (freak good weather) but no air conditioning. Hotel felt a little 'tired'Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel for a short stay"
We really enjoyed our stay at the Detrbyshire hotel, the staff were very friendly and helpful, our room was clean and comfortable, the spa was an added extra as we were able to relax in the hotels pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub. The breakfast was excellent there was plenty to choose from.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Close to motorway & shopping centre"
Hotel very convenient for motorway and exploring Derbyshire. Bed so comfortable we overslept and missed breakfast, but it was Very quiet area. Would stay again if in the area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Our overnight stay was very comfortable and made even pleasanter by the warmth of the service we received. The night we were there there was a fairly large wedding but this in no way affected our comfort and enjoyment. The room was very modern, clean and well maintained; the beds were comfortable. The only criticism for a twin room there should be two […] bath and hand towels; a few biscuits in the room would be appreciated. But these are minor criticisms for the standard was generally high. The staff was uniformly welcoming. Very convenient to the motorway too. We stayed on to watch the Wimbledon final! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
very nice, the breakfast arrangements were not very good,we had to queue for 15 minutes to get a table.but every thing else was very good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Really comfortable bed bathroom and bedroom both clean. The breakfast was not very appealing the eggs were laying in fat and the coffee was cold. Leisure facilities were great although the pool was a little small to accomadate the ammount of people using it. On the whole not up to 4 star standard needs a little tweeking.Genuine Expedia guest review
Expectations were for a hotel near the location of an evening out and some lesuire facilities. Room, bathroom and lesuire facilities are showing their age but are spotlessly clean. Every member of staff we encountered was pleasant, appropriately informed and generally nice to deal with.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Took 40 minutes to check in with less than helpful staff, bed was so soft that it dipped in the middle and was not a good night's sleep. Spa was pretty nice, as was breakfast. Decor is a bit old and could do with a refurb.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to roads, sights etc"
We stayed for 3 nights and were very comfortable in this hotel. The buffet breakfast was great and I would think made for less waste of food. The bed was so comfortable (apart from the quilt being a little too warm) that we ordered new pillows from the same company when we returned home. We only had one evening meal at the hotel, as these were a little […] on the expensive side, but the meal we had was well worth the money and was very enjoyable. "Four star hotel which is correctly rated"
The location of the hotel is ideal, situated just off the motorway. The staff were very attentive and helpful. The leisure complex was good but the changing rooms would have benefited from a good clean, although to be fair, we only used it towards the end of the day. The breakfasts were very good and dinner was also very nice and good vfm. Wine was […] a bit over-priced starting from about £20 a bottle! All in all, we would be very happy to recommend the Derbyshire Hotel to anyone and will probably stay there again. The bedroom was hot which meant that we needed to open the window to control the temperature and being so close to the motorway meant that we could (just) hear the traffic (not loud enough to disturb sleep however - and I am a light sleeper!) "The best hotel staff"
Whoever is responisble for training the staff here deserves a pat on the back! The whole team were charming - every member I met, from cleaners to managment, had time to greet me and make me feel welcome. The hotel decor is a touch dated, but the things that matter to me, ans a female business traveller, were all great. They provided a comfy bed with […] quality linen, iron and board, a secure room with door chain, nice room service menu, and lovely pool and gym. "Comfort and Friendliness at The Derbyshire"
This was a comfortable hotel and the staff were freindly and helpful throughout. It was a bonus having the chance to accomodate my dogs - although the supplement of £30 was rather steep! The leisure facilities were great. The only negative was the VERY noisy radiator in our room that filled each morning at 4.45am.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"The Derbyshire Hotel - a thumbs up!"
I have to say that after booking the hotel and then reading the reviews - it was with some trepidation that we went along. The hotel from the outside looks a bit dark and foreboding (but hey it is winter!) however on walking through the front door the reception area was beautiful - clean and bright. We had a very spacious double room on the first floor, […] comfortable and clean with plenty of storage space and a fridge! The bathroom was spacious and very clean and if I was to say anything negative it would be that the furniture was a wee bit dated and the TV's picture was not brilliant - but hey if that's all then there is not much to complain about. The pool and spa area at night was lovely - very clean and romantically lit and we enjoyed a very relaxing couple of hours there. The staff we met were friendly and helpful and we had a lovely cooked buffet breakfast. Good distance from the Outlet Village - literally 5 mins in the car and across the road from a Beefeater pub. All in all a def. 4 out of 5 ! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"The Derbyshire Hotel"
The hotel is well positioned and close to the motorway. The staff are very friendly and helpful. However the hotel is let down by its condition. In our room there was a lot of mould on the windows. In the lounge/bar area the carpets are looking tired and it is plain to see where the carpets are joined, it is becoming threadbear. Also the prices in the […] bar and for food was we felt exessive for the standard. The worst Principal Hotel I ever experienced. The worst receptionist representing hotel ever experienced. If you want to be hustled for your credit card details while you eating your breakfast - welcome to Derbyshire Principal Hotel. Regardless that you provided all details to receptionist the night before- you are still chased like wild animal during […] your breakfast. When problem addressed to receptionist - the patronising and absent tonality of the voice and attitude of Alcatraz was hurled back to me. " That is not my problem Sir" - is the patronising and angry response of this Receptionist, who would probably get a successful carrier as Prison Guard but certainly not a front person representing very known Hotel Group. Room - it was not cleaned properly, towels contained hair from cleaners or whoever else. Bad was like a trampoline and cushions were neck braking. You would probably need to book therapy and serious massage after spending night in such a bad. Water was dripping like from Arizona's desert cactus - no pressure, taps broken. Shell I continue - I could overcome Tolstoy's War and Peace in volume of complaints towards this Hotel. The Hotel Manager was informed in details and is now fully aware that there is a massive problem with his Hotel Team. I stayed 4 days at Hotel and when I was leaving I noticed that Receptionists were smiling and greeting their visitors - That could be the new beginning of Derbyshire Hotel and I hope that my vigorous complaint would provide to other guest the treatment and service they paid for and expect to get. It is not difficult to smile and be pleasant - in service you do not have attitude and many people do forget that. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Breakfast good, family room far to hot= restless kids=no sleep!"
Stayed here as part of a party wedding booking Fri 25th/Sat 26th July.Hotel not to bad looking maybe a little dated and tired but still was clean.Room was just unbearable so hot even with a fan on an a window you could only open 5 inches. With children with us as a family room no sleep was gained by us which totally put a dampener on our family wedding trip away! Did tell reception of our plight didn't really seem bothered to be honest! Not the costumer care I'd expect! Mr M.Lane
"Stayed here twice recently - very pleased with everything"
07/27/14 LestaLady39 Quorn, United Kingdom
My friend and I have stayed twice on a groupon offer and have had a really enjoyable stay on both occasions. I guess it's all relative to what one has paid but on both occasions my friends and I have really enjoyed dinner and there is sufficient choice to suit most palates. Leisure facilities are an added bonus and early evening they're certainly not crowded. We've stayed in a twin on the 3rd floor and ground floor. Really comfortable beds, rooms are hot - but it is summer! And a fan left on soon sorts the temperature out. Both times, I've had a very comfortable nights sleep and have been surprised at how quiet the hotel was (and last night we did have a room on the M1 side and left the window open slightly!). Breakfast is also very good. Plenty of parking available and really easy access to motorway and road network. I really like this hotel, very convenient for the Peak District and for the designer outlet village too. All staff are very friendly and whilst check in was a bit slow recently - this really Is not an issue. I wouldn't get over-excited by the wine list or the free wine offered but it's good enough and I'm quite sure that I shall be back again in the next few months.

Solar gain on the 'motorway side' of the building, a window restricted to open only about 20cm, and a hot July day resulted in Bedroom 340 resembling an oven on arrival at 7pm. Thank goodness for the fan! I left the fan running from the moment I got to the room until I checked out. It was just about bearable, and I did manage to get to sleep. Room decor a little tired, no resemblance to website photos. I nearly phoned Reception to complain about the mixer tap for the shower not working, then realised the cold tap was disabled, and that all hot/cold adjustment was on one tap. Dinner menu was rather a bizarre selection, lots of spicy options that I suspect were 'ready-meal' rather than freshly prepared. And my leek/potato croquette accompanying the chicken was very odd, it resembled an old style crispy pancake in size and shape. Breakfast was actually quite good! Fresh fruit, cooked buffet, cereals. All the staff were very pleasant and friendly. Overall the hotel was really only just about okay, certainly not 4 star. It was convenient location for my business trip, I could dine conveniently without leaving the hotel, and I did get a decent night's sleep and got a good shower (eventually), but I will look for an alternative hotel for my next visit to this area.
"4 Star Hotel with 1 Star food!"
07/26/14 CowdenBelly Cowdenbeath, United Kingdom
We used the hotel as a stop off for the peak district and a visit to Chatsworth, entry which was paid for in the package. Generally clean but window ledges and window framework were dusty. Good rooms and comfortable bed let down by on air conditioning. This is probably the case with too many hotels in the UK but it just so happens we were staying during the latest heat wave and the heat in the room was oppressive. With rising temperatures I believe more hotels will have to consider fitting it to compete. Overall the service was good and I liked the hotel. I can't speak for the leisure facilities because we did not use them. This hotel caters for business users, conferences and weddings but the food does not match the standard of the hotel. It's like they don't have to put in the effort with the food. Which is surprising because they seem to crow about standards and quality at the reception desk where you will find a picture of a member of staff who has shown quality service. I would be very disappointed to find the chef's face there based on our experiences. One of the dishes which both me and my wife had very few of the elements correct as per the menu. The ham hock terrine was miserly in the first place, the pea shoots had been replaced by rocket, passed its best, the rye bread had been replaced by a thinly cut piece of toasted white bread. The tarragon Aioli was some very mediocre mayonnaise with some leaves through it which may or may not have been tarragon. Aioli should taste of garlic and it didn't. My wife's croquette which was part of her chicken dish was hard with a grey greenish filling which was tasteless. My potato rosti pale and not crisp so it was just a pile of shredded potato. We were here for 2 nights so the list goes on. The tomato soup was sour, nobody has obviously told the chef that adding just a minute amount of sugar to the mixture remedies that. I quite enjoyed my lamb tagine the second night but "Naz's Syhlet Sizzler" was a let down, the sauce that covered it completely over powered it, so I would not know if the breast had been marinated in spices and the rosti lightly spiced. My wife had "Toms award winning steak pie" obviously a bought in pie which is alright for bar food but not for a restaurant. I would expect this pie to be on the 2 meals for £8 list at a well known pub chain. The breakfast was OK on the whole and that is why the score for food is 2. When I mentioned the poor food to the receptionist I got the impression I wasn't the first to complain. Again superlatives about he chef on the menu don't seem deserved. Overall just not good enough on the food front, might stay here again on a B&B deal but would be eating elsewhere.
"Fantastic Wedding A day to truly remember"
07/24/14 AAK11 Derby, United Kingdom
The Derbyshire Hotel is definately the place to hold your wedding ! from the first appointment with wedding planner Tracy to the day of the wedding with Jonathon & Luke, all so helpful and reassuring nothing could have been more perfect, guests could not believe the service, fabulous food and stunning room set up, guest comments " it could not have been better if you were in a 5* hotel" The day went without any "hitches" and we can only thank the management and staff for providing a fabulous day to remember The rooms were great too lovely and clean and a nice touch was the petals and champagne and card from the staff on our return in the evening, cannot thank everyone at the Derbyshire Hotel enough, will be back for our first anniversary ! Thank you
"Comfortable hotel with gymn and pool"

Overall good value for money, just off m1 therefore easy access and close to Nottingham and derby. Food is a little expensive and room menu limited. Staff helpful and friendly. Small but functional gymn, large pool and spa.
"Avoid a hot day"
07/22/14 ImhoSussex Sussex
Can't say much about this hotel except to advise that your room must be on the ground floor if the weather is warm. If it has been a warm day the upper rooms are unbearable and have no air-con. It seems unbelievable that any modern building can be so bad. Strangely the bathroom tap delivered only cold or tepid water - could have been a faulty thermostat in the tap itself, so other rooms may be better. No lifts. Staff try hard but cannot overcome a faulty building.

Rooms and corridors very dark - and no air con or modern TV. Husband in wheelchair could just get around room OK, but only a double bed. Had a voucher for dinner(2 courses) and bottle of wine. Found out bottle of wine to be got from bar, but unable to take it into restaurant - a very odd thing. Staff recommended we drink wine in bar and take glasses through into restaurant. When offered a lovely cool sparkling French wine however, we couldn't help drinking in first as it was excellent and a lovely choice on such a hot evening. Food in restaurant sounded a bit dull, but waitress produced specials menu, and I chose chicken Caesar salad ( with anchovies) as a starter and salmon for a main course. My husband paid extra for a sirloin steak and we were both pleasantly surprised how good the food was. We had to pay extra for an Eton mess but we shared it between us - delicious. Leisure facilities down stairs - disappointing as pool was too full when I tried to go there. Also no real access for wheelchair patrons as changing rooms behind desk had steps down to pool. Problem with bath as had no idea how to get cold water as only hot tap seemed to be working and water was very hot. When asked staff they were very helpful and had turned taps for us when we returned from dinner and cold water was available. A shame that there was no signs as to how to operate these odd taps.
"Rooms Too Hot - shame as the staff were great"
07/19/14 James H London, United Kingdom
I was due to stay here on a summer day (we'd booked a few rooms as part of a big group). It was warm outside but nothing too excessive. When we got into the room it was sweltering. We could tell right away we wouldn't be able to sleep. We tried opening the window but that did very little - my room had an aircon unit (for reception I assume!) directly outside so the noise would have kept me up anyway. We went to complain and got nowhere as the hotel was full. The staff were extremely understanding (perhaps they are used to this) and helped us find somewhere else to stay and gave a full refund. I can't fault them at all. However, regardless of how nice the staff were, rooms like this shouldn't be made available. If I worked here, it would only be long enough to find a new job.

I got married at the Derbyshire in May 2013, it was 16 months in planning and our wedding planner Sharon, was amazing, patient and inspirational. Our host on the day, Johnathon, was like a magician, everytime we thought something needed doing he appeared out of nowhere to tell us it was already sorted. The price was exceptional for the service which was outstanding, the quality of the food still has our guest talking about it a year on, tasty and plentiful. we have since recommended and attended 2 further weddings at Principle Hayley hotels in Derbyshire and both brides have said the same. Our ceremony was in the smaller room with 80 guests and in the evening we were in the large back suite with 180 guests, the gardens have made for wonderful photos, I would highly recommend this hotel, the rooms are comfy and clean we had no complaints from the 60 guest that stayed and all rooms were discounted for the wedding. We used the hotels own DJ 'Jonny' who really made it a night to remember.
