"Best bedding ever"
The bed was so comfy, bedding was soft, pillows were amazing! Gym was nice, not amazing but adequate. Food was shocking! The hand cut chips were nice but the chicken was on the verge of being off, one night I had the most expensive sandwich, in stale bread which took about an hour to prepare... 3 times i sent it back, it was just awful... they are short […] staffed in the mornings and at the bar where one poor guy has to do everything! The taps were hanging off the wall and the aluminium windows were damp and smelly... other than that I have stayed in much worse! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfec location near the motorway"
We arrived at about 7.15 and were told that we we couldn't eat in the dining room until 9.15, despite there appearing to be a lot of available tables. We were a bit annoyed about this but in fact had a nice bar meal instead which was quite tasty and came up quickly. While eating we realised that we had been charged for the room again on arrival, despite […] having already paid Expedia in full in advance. The hotel were quick to correct this when pointed out, but they shouldn't have had to rely on us noticing this. We had a nice room with a fairly comfortable bed, with a good bathroom with a bath and shower over and plenty of room for everything. The room was really cold when we arrived and it took us a little while to work out how to get the heating going. We then ended up with the room too hot and despite constantly turning the thermostat down, we never got it cool enough again so were hot all night. There was a notice in the room telling us the times when we might have a short or a long wait for breakfast. We had a bit of a wait. The dining room is clearly too small and there clearly aren't enough staff, as similarly to the evening before, there were tables ready that weren't being used and a lot of people waiting for breakfast. The staff were working really hard and were charming, but couldn't cope. When we eventually ate, the breakfast was very good, with plenty of choice. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice room, shame about the restaurant"
Room was fine, comfortable and clean. Stay here often but usually eat over the road at Premier Inn. Decided to have Sunday meal in restaurant. Completely disorganised - lost booking made three days earlier; rubbish service - once seated ignored us (took orders from 2 tables next to us who came in after us; then served them bread rolls and still ignored […] us!!!), didn't ask if we wanted to order any drinks; made all customers queue at till to get bill and pay - embarrassing other diners (standing over them)...and then on check out they tried to make us pay a second time (reception said they had not record from the restaurant of the payment made the previous night). Total fiasco...and the food was very ordinary but they charge London prices. Don't be fools - go over the road to eat. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Derbyshire stopping point"
Excellent location just off Junction 28 of the M1. Ideal for visits to Chatsworth, Bolsover Castle and Hardwick Hall. Also close to Designer Outlet Centre for the clothes shopper! Staff were friendly and approachable. Room was clean, with good added facilities; iron, ironing board, hair dryer and trouser press. Fitness centre was a bonus. Free of charge, […] with gym, pool, jacuzzi and sauna. Again these were nice and clean. Evening meal was particularly good. On the negative side; Service in the bar could have been better. The buffet breakfast suffered a similar problem to other hotels with long a delay for hot food items to be replenished. Wanted to start a 'tab' but could only do so with a credit card and not a debit card. Having said all that, overall very good value for money, and would happily stay there again. Regular customer, so used to this hotel. All fine for business use; just tends to get busy on front desk in early evening, so external callers trying to phone in often find it difficult to get the hotel switchboard to answer. The hotel was OK. Staff were very proffesional. I found the bed to be much too soft and only a double (many hotels now have kingsize as a matter of course) and the room was very hot (freak good weather) but no air conditioning. Hotel felt a little 'tired'Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel for a short stay"
We really enjoyed our stay at the Detrbyshire hotel, the staff were very friendly and helpful, our room was clean and comfortable, the spa was an added extra as we were able to relax in the hotels pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub. The breakfast was excellent there was plenty to choose from.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Close to motorway & shopping centre"
Hotel very convenient for motorway and exploring Derbyshire. Bed so comfortable we overslept and missed breakfast, but it was Very quiet area. Would stay again if in the area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Our overnight stay was very comfortable and made even pleasanter by the warmth of the service we received. The night we were there there was a fairly large wedding but this in no way affected our comfort and enjoyment. The room was very modern, clean and well maintained; the beds were comfortable. The only criticism for a twin room there should be two […] bath and hand towels; a few biscuits in the room would be appreciated. But these are minor criticisms for the standard was generally high. The staff was uniformly welcoming. Very convenient to the motorway too. We stayed on to watch the Wimbledon final! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
very nice, the breakfast arrangements were not very good,we had to queue for 15 minutes to get a table.but every thing else was very good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Really comfortable bed bathroom and bedroom both clean. The breakfast was not very appealing the eggs were laying in fat and the coffee was cold. Leisure facilities were great although the pool was a little small to accomadate the ammount of people using it. On the whole not up to 4 star standard needs a little tweeking.Genuine Expedia guest review
Expectations were for a hotel near the location of an evening out and some lesuire facilities. Room, bathroom and lesuire facilities are showing their age but are spotlessly clean. Every member of staff we encountered was pleasant, appropriately informed and generally nice to deal with.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Took 40 minutes to check in with less than helpful staff, bed was so soft that it dipped in the middle and was not a good night's sleep. Spa was pretty nice, as was breakfast. Decor is a bit old and could do with a refurb.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to roads, sights etc"
We stayed for 3 nights and were very comfortable in this hotel. The buffet breakfast was great and I would think made for less waste of food. The bed was so comfortable (apart from the quilt being a little too warm) that we ordered new pillows from the same company when we returned home. We only had one evening meal at the hotel, as these were a little […] on the expensive side, but the meal we had was well worth the money and was very enjoyable. "Four star hotel which is correctly rated"
The location of the hotel is ideal, situated just off the motorway. The staff were very attentive and helpful. The leisure complex was good but the changing rooms would have benefited from a good clean, although to be fair, we only used it towards the end of the day. The breakfasts were very good and dinner was also very nice and good vfm. Wine was […] a bit over-priced starting from about £20 a bottle! All in all, we would be very happy to recommend the Derbyshire Hotel to anyone and will probably stay there again. The bedroom was hot which meant that we needed to open the window to control the temperature and being so close to the motorway meant that we could (just) hear the traffic (not loud enough to disturb sleep however - and I am a light sleeper!) "The best hotel staff"
Whoever is responisble for training the staff here deserves a pat on the back! The whole team were charming - every member I met, from cleaners to managment, had time to greet me and make me feel welcome. The hotel decor is a touch dated, but the things that matter to me, ans a female business traveller, were all great. They provided a comfy bed with […] quality linen, iron and board, a secure room with door chain, nice room service menu, and lovely pool and gym. "Comfort and Friendliness at The Derbyshire"
This was a comfortable hotel and the staff were freindly and helpful throughout. It was a bonus having the chance to accomodate my dogs - although the supplement of £30 was rather steep! The leisure facilities were great. The only negative was the VERY noisy radiator in our room that filled each morning at 4.45am.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"The Derbyshire Hotel - a thumbs up!"
I have to say that after booking the hotel and then reading the reviews - it was with some trepidation that we went along. The hotel from the outside looks a bit dark and foreboding (but hey it is winter!) however on walking through the front door the reception area was beautiful - clean and bright. We had a very spacious double room on the first floor, […] comfortable and clean with plenty of storage space and a fridge! The bathroom was spacious and very clean and if I was to say anything negative it would be that the furniture was a wee bit dated and the TV's picture was not brilliant - but hey if that's all then there is not much to complain about. The pool and spa area at night was lovely - very clean and romantically lit and we enjoyed a very relaxing couple of hours there. The staff we met were friendly and helpful and we had a lovely cooked buffet breakfast. Good distance from the Outlet Village - literally 5 mins in the car and across the road from a Beefeater pub. All in all a def. 4 out of 5 ! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"The Derbyshire Hotel"
The hotel is well positioned and close to the motorway. The staff are very friendly and helpful. However the hotel is let down by its condition. In our room there was a lot of mould on the windows. In the lounge/bar area the carpets are looking tired and it is plain to see where the carpets are joined, it is becoming threadbear. The worst Principal Hotel I ever experienced. The worst receptionist representing hotel ever experienced. If you want to be hustled for your credit card details while you eating your breakfast - welcome to Derbyshire Principal Hotel. Regardless that you provided all details to receptionist the night before- you are still chased like wild animal during […] your breakfast. When problem addressed to receptionist - the patronising and absent tonality of the voice and attitude of Alcatraz was hurled back to me. " That is not my problem Sir" - is the patronising and angry response of this Receptionist, who would probably get a successful carrier as Prison Guard but certainly not a front person representing very known Hotel Group. Room - it was not cleaned properly, towels contained hair from cleaners or whoever else. Bad was like a trampoline and cushions were neck braking. You would probably need to book therapy and serious massage after spending night in such a bad. Water was dripping like from Arizona's desert cactus - no pressure, taps broken. Shell I continue - I could overcome Tolstoy's War and Peace in volume of complaints towards this Hotel. The Hotel Manager was informed in details and is now fully aware that there is a massive problem with his Hotel Team. I stayed 4 days at Hotel and when I was leaving I noticed that Receptionists were smiling and greeting their visitors - That could be the new beginning of Derbyshire Hotel and I hope that my vigorous complaint would provide to other guest the treatment and service they paid for and expect to get. It is not difficult to smile and be pleasant - in service you do not have attitude and many people do forget that. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Had a meeting at this hotel today. Friendly staff who were happy to sort wifi codes out. Food very nice, even if a little expensive just for a sandwich! However, it did come with a small amount of crisps and salad. Plenty of parking and clean amenities. Very convenient for M1/A38 location.

Use this hotel for a conference and really I found it just average. We used the hotel next door for food and drink as it was a lot less expensive. I wanted a bottle of water at bedtime and had to buy one from the bar at £3.75. We used the beefeater next door for food and drink as did many of the other patrons

"Not for people with disabilitys"
09/23/14 stanmalkin Nottingham, United Kingdom
Stayed hear for my stepsons wedding. I'm disabled and in a wheelchair when we booked asked for a disable room "We don,t have any came the reply" which suprised me for a hotel of this size..We asked to be put in a room close to the room the reception would be taking place. Well are room was miles away through two big fire doors, disable toilets were out of action, hand dryers in mens and ladies toilets not working and no paper towels. Reporting this to reception and asking what the hotels disable policy was the reply was a manager will contact you. That was two weeks ago. Still waiting. DISABLE PERSONS BEWARE.
"A lovely short break"

My wife and I stayed here for two nights, Thursday night and Friday night, with a Travelzoo deal. Our room was at the far end of one of the wings, quite a walk to reception, the bar and the restaurant. We looked upon it as an opportunity for some much needed exercise. Our room was large, well furnished, quiet, and with a very comfortable king size bed. I was astonished to see a large power hungry vacuum tube television – I thought all hotels had long since thrown these in the bin! However, we weren’t here to watch tv so it didn’t matter. Most importantly we had good nights’ sleep and there was plenty of storage for our clothes etc. The breakfast choice and quality was very good, with a range of cooked and cold options. It was good to see meat and cheese included in the cold buffet, in addition to the cereals, a selection of fruits, and a nice bowl of yoghurt. The dinner on both nights was also very good, with a good selection on the menu, and everything we chose was lovely. Although our meals were included as part of the deal, I thought that the prices were very reasonable for the quality and variety offered. Drinks were a little pricey though, but that’s the way it is with hotels. Finally, the staff, the people who really make or break a place. Everybody we met was cheerful, friendly and welcoming, wherever they were: reception, the bar, the restaurant, and around the hotel. A credit to the business. The hotel is convenient for visiting the sights of Derbyshire or visiting the MacArthur Glen shopping centre the other side of the main road. Overall then, thoroughly recommended, especially if you can get a deal or someone else to pay your bills, otherwise it’s rather expensive.
"Not bad, missing a spark"
09/22/14 Ben K
Came here with my girlfriend for an anniversary. Great deal through TravelZoo. Staff were faultless; really polite and informative receptionist, friendly cleaners and attentive waiting and bar team. As per a lot of reviews I agree that it's very out dated, i.e. TV in rooms and general decor. Evening in the restaurant was great, really good food and a bottle of the NZ Sauvignon. The deal however came with a bottle of wine but we were disheartened that it couldn't be consumed with dinner and it was a very basic (cheap) bottle and there was no option to pay the difference and upgrade. Excellent breakfast followed by a few hours at the pool/spa which was great (showers need some attention). Overall an enjoyable stay, but due to location (M1!!) and lack of spark, probably wouldn't consider retuning.

Although potential for being a good Hotel, needs some upgrading and attention to detail. Bed was awful, old, when asked for change of mattress, only covered with extra thin top mattress. Crippled my back and leg, and after 2 wks and complaints was finally changed. Stayed on business for one month, still suffering one month later, worst in 9 yrs of travelling away! Staff are depressing, need to smile more, especially in Bar and Restaurant, and learn better customer Skills I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, and there group management are just as poor as there Hotel Staff.

I stayed the hotel Saturday night after traveling up from Devon to visit my family. My initial thoughts was very good, the whole reception area looked lovely and the man who greeted us was very nice! I can't remember his name sadly, if i did he would get a special mention. We wasn't too far away from reception which was a bonus and after exploring the grounds the actual hotel is like a maze. The room was very clean but as i read before i decided to stay here it could do with upgrading as the TV's are ancient. We visited the local designer outlet which was brilliant so many shops to go through. After a long hard day shopping we decided to head down to the leisure club around 5pm to be greeted by another young man who was very rude and seemed like he had a chip on his shoulder with us, his attitude was horrendous. We had to ask the questions as it wasn't explained where i had to go to enter the pool area and made me feel quite uncomfortable as he didn't seem interested in speaking to us, anyway on the way out the young girl who was there was very nice and greeted us with a proper manner. The Spa area was lovely, clean and most importantly relaxing. We didn't eat in the restaurant that night as had plans to visit the family, we did however eat in the morning at a buffet style lunch which was great, I've never tasted a breakfast that good in a few years with so many options to choose from with it being so busy the chefs deserve a pat on the back. Apart from what I've mentioned everything was great and I'd definitely recommended this place to my friends who live in the Leicester area!
"Didn't live up to my expectations"
09/14/14 Mel W Worcester, England, United Kingdom
Good points first. Staff friendly and helpful, convenient to the motorway and the breakfast good and plentiful. However the photographs of the rooms must have had soft focus on max! The whole hotel is looking a little tired and jaded and in need of a refurbishment. Worn carpet and gaffer tape holding things down is not good. The duvet was sparse in places and lumpy in others. Towel exchange meant only getting back one when you put two to be washed. We had a meal in the restaurant which was over priced for what it was and arrived with unseemly haste. I have waited longer for food to be cooked in Mac Donalds which is a worry. I expected more for my money :(
