"Best bedding ever"
The bed was so comfy, bedding was soft, pillows were amazing! Gym was nice, not amazing but adequate. Food was shocking! The hand cut chips were nice but the chicken was on the verge of being off, one night I had the most expensive sandwich, in stale bread which took about an hour to prepare... 3 times i sent it back, it was just awful... they are short […] staffed in the mornings and at the bar where one poor guy has to do everything! The taps were hanging off the wall and the aluminium windows were damp and smelly... other than that I have stayed in much worse! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfec location near the motorway"
We arrived at about 7.15 and were told that we we couldn't eat in the dining room until 9.15, despite there appearing to be a lot of available tables. We were a bit annoyed about this but in fact had a nice bar meal instead which was quite tasty and came up quickly. While eating we realised that we had been charged for the room again on arrival, despite […] having already paid Expedia in full in advance. The hotel were quick to correct this when pointed out, but they shouldn't have had to rely on us noticing this. We had a nice room with a fairly comfortable bed, with a good bathroom with a bath and shower over and plenty of room for everything. The room was really cold when we arrived and it took us a little while to work out how to get the heating going. We then ended up with the room too hot and despite constantly turning the thermostat down, we never got it cool enough again so were hot all night. There was a notice in the room telling us the times when we might have a short or a long wait for breakfast. We had a bit of a wait. The dining room is clearly too small and there clearly aren't enough staff, as similarly to the evening before, there were tables ready that weren't being used and a lot of people waiting for breakfast. The staff were working really hard and were charming, but couldn't cope. When we eventually ate, the breakfast was very good, with plenty of choice. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice room, shame about the restaurant"
Room was fine, comfortable and clean. Stay here often but usually eat over the road at Premier Inn. Decided to have Sunday meal in restaurant. Completely disorganised - lost booking made three days earlier; rubbish service - once seated ignored us (took orders from 2 tables next to us who came in after us; then served them bread rolls and still ignored […] us!!!), didn't ask if we wanted to order any drinks; made all customers queue at till to get bill and pay - embarrassing other diners (standing over them)...and then on check out they tried to make us pay a second time (reception said they had not record from the restaurant of the payment made the previous night). Total fiasco...and the food was very ordinary but they charge London prices. Don't be fools - go over the road to eat. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Derbyshire stopping point"
Excellent location just off Junction 28 of the M1. Ideal for visits to Chatsworth, Bolsover Castle and Hardwick Hall. Also close to Designer Outlet Centre for the clothes shopper! Staff were friendly and approachable. Room was clean, with good added facilities; iron, ironing board, hair dryer and trouser press. Fitness centre was a bonus. Free of charge, […] with gym, pool, jacuzzi and sauna. Again these were nice and clean. Evening meal was particularly good. On the negative side; Service in the bar could have been better. The buffet breakfast suffered a similar problem to other hotels with long a delay for hot food items to be replenished. Wanted to start a 'tab' but could only do so with a credit card and not a debit card. Having said all that, overall very good value for money, and would happily stay there again. Regular customer, so used to this hotel. All fine for business use; just tends to get busy on front desk in early evening, so external callers trying to phone in often find it difficult to get the hotel switchboard to answer. The hotel was OK. Staff were very proffesional. I found the bed to be much too soft and only a double (many hotels now have kingsize as a matter of course) and the room was very hot (freak good weather) but no air conditioning. Hotel felt a little 'tired'Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel for a short stay"
We really enjoyed our stay at the Detrbyshire hotel, the staff were very friendly and helpful, our room was clean and comfortable, the spa was an added extra as we were able to relax in the hotels pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub. The breakfast was excellent there was plenty to choose from.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Close to motorway & shopping centre"
Hotel very convenient for motorway and exploring Derbyshire. Bed so comfortable we overslept and missed breakfast, but it was Very quiet area. Would stay again if in the area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Our overnight stay was very comfortable and made even pleasanter by the warmth of the service we received. The night we were there there was a fairly large wedding but this in no way affected our comfort and enjoyment. The room was very modern, clean and well maintained; the beds were comfortable. The only criticism for a twin room there should be two […] bath and hand towels; a few biscuits in the room would be appreciated. But these are minor criticisms for the standard was generally high. The staff was uniformly welcoming. Very convenient to the motorway too. We stayed on to watch the Wimbledon final! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Really comfortable bed bathroom and bedroom both clean. The breakfast was not very appealing the eggs were laying in fat and the coffee was cold. Leisure facilities were great although the pool was a little small to accomadate the ammount of people using it. On the whole not up to 4 star standard needs a little tweeking.Genuine Expedia guest review
Expectations were for a hotel near the location of an evening out and some lesuire facilities. Room, bathroom and lesuire facilities are showing their age but are spotlessly clean. Every member of staff we encountered was pleasant, appropriately informed and generally nice to deal with.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Took 40 minutes to check in with less than helpful staff, bed was so soft that it dipped in the middle and was not a good night's sleep. Spa was pretty nice, as was breakfast. Decor is a bit old and could do with a refurb.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to roads, sights etc"
We stayed for 3 nights and were very comfortable in this hotel. The buffet breakfast was great and I would think made for less waste of food. The bed was so comfortable (apart from the quilt being a little too warm) that we ordered new pillows from the same company when we returned home. We only had one evening meal at the hotel, as these were a little […] on the expensive side, but the meal we had was well worth the money and was very enjoyable. "Four star hotel which is correctly rated"
The location of the hotel is ideal, situated just off the motorway. The staff were very attentive and helpful. The leisure complex was good but the changing rooms would have benefited from a good clean, although to be fair, we only used it towards the end of the day. The breakfasts were very good and dinner was also very nice and good vfm. Wine was […] a bit over-priced starting from about £20 a bottle! All in all, we would be very happy to recommend the Derbyshire Hotel to anyone and will probably stay there again. The bedroom was hot which meant that we needed to open the window to control the temperature and being so close to the motorway meant that we could (just) hear the traffic (not loud enough to disturb sleep however - and I am a light sleeper!) "The best hotel staff"
Whoever is responisble for training the staff here deserves a pat on the back! The whole team were charming - every member I met, from cleaners to managment, had time to greet me and make me feel welcome. The hotel decor is a touch dated, but the things that matter to me, ans a female business traveller, were all great. "Comfort and Friendliness at The Derbyshire"
This was a comfortable hotel and the staff were freindly and helpful throughout. It was a bonus having the chance to accomodate my dogs - although the supplement of £30 was rather steep! "The Derbyshire Hotel - a thumbs up!"
I have to say that after booking the hotel and then reading the reviews - it was with some trepidation that we went along. The hotel from the outside looks a bit dark and foreboding (but hey it is winter!) however on walking through the front door the reception area was beautiful - clean and bright. We had a very spacious double room on the first floor, […] comfortable and clean with plenty of storage space and a fridge! The bathroom was spacious and very clean and if I was to say anything negative it would be that the furniture was a wee bit dated and the TV's picture was not brilliant - but hey if that's all then there is not much to complain about. The pool and spa area at night was lovely - very clean and romantically lit and we enjoyed a very relaxing couple of hours there. The staff we met were friendly and helpful and we had a lovely cooked buffet breakfast. Good distance from the Outlet Village - literally 5 mins in the car and across the road from a Beefeater pub. "The Derbyshire Hotel"
The hotel is well positioned and close to the motorway. The staff are very friendly and helpful. However the hotel is let down by its condition. In our room there was a lot of mould on the windows. The worst Principal Hotel I ever experienced. The worst receptionist representing hotel ever experienced. If you want to be hustled for your credit card details while you eating your breakfast - welcome to Derbyshire Principal Hotel. Regardless that you provided all details to receptionist the night before- you are still chased like wild animal during […] your breakfast. When problem addressed to receptionist - the patronising and absent tonality of the voice and attitude of Alcatraz was hurled back to me. " That is not my problem Sir" - is the patronising and angry response of this Receptionist, who would probably get a successful carrier as Prison Guard but certainly not a front person representing very known Hotel Group. Room - it was not cleaned properly, towels contained hair from cleaners or whoever else. Bad was like a trampoline and cushions were neck braking. You would probably need to book therapy and serious massage after spending night in such a bad. Water was dripping like from Arizona's desert cactus - no pressure, taps broken. Shell I continue - I could overcome Tolstoy's War and Peace in volume of complaints towards this Hotel. The Hotel Manager was informed in details and is now fully aware that there is a massive problem with his Hotel Team. I stayed 4 days at Hotel and when I was leaving I noticed that Receptionists were smiling and greeting their visitors - That could be the new beginning of Derbyshire Hotel and I hope that my vigorous complaint would provide to other guest the treatment and service they paid for and expect to get. It is not difficult to smile and be pleasant - in service you do not have attitude and many people do forget that. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The hotel is ideally situated just off the M1 and very easy to find. There is ample car parking even when there is a function taking place. Check in was very quick and I was directed to my room 265 in no time. The room is very spacious and well equipt with trouser press, ironing board and tea making facilities. Room and bathroom were nice and clean, lovely comfy double bed. I used the gym and spa on both days, the gym is only small but all the equpment was in good working order and plentyful. The pool, sauna and steam room were like new a lovely surprise after a long journey. Next to the recepion area there is a good selection of brouchures with things to do out and about. The food in the hotel is a bit on the expensive side, I had a 12" pizza £12.50 and a pint of Boddingtons £4.30 on day one and fish & chips £14 on day two both in the bar. I didn't experience any traffic noise from Motorway but that could just be the position of the room I was allocated. WIFI was very good as was the tv reception but there are only 6 channells to watch. The breakfast is excellant but go early as it does get busy at the later times. All in all a very enjoyable stay and I will use the hotel again without wasting time looking at other alternatives.

We used The Derbyshire Hotel as a base for a Peak District Bank Holiday getaway and weren't disappointed. We booked online direct with the hotel and received a discount and breakfast included for a room only price. Our room was supposed to be a twin but we emailed a request for a double and this was honoured. It was rather warm in the room (there was a fan) and the TV was an old, deep one but everything else was at a good standard. Access to the leisure facilities was included although we didn't make the most of these. Breakfast was impressive although I wouldn't have wanted to pay the £10 per person that was charged when not includdd in the room rate. The hotel is well-placed next to the M1, a dangerously close distance from the East Midlands Designer Outlet and brilliant for reaching Matlock, Nottingham and Sherwood Forest with plenty of parking. Overall very impressed.

Check in was quick, however the receptionist did not mention the leisure facilities or the free WiFi codes. Hallway carpet was very worn with holes. The allocated room was dusty with a very memorable nasty smell and the window was not closing When I call reception the other receptionist immediately told me the hotel was fully booked and would call me back if it was possible to move rooms. At this point the nearby premier inn was looking very inviting. Luckily the second receptionist was despatched and she was very very good ( Faye). An alternative room was found without the smell, but the windows were still not lockable/close properly When the key card was changed the first receptionist again made a point of telling me the hotel was fully booked. I could not log onto WiFi during the entire stay. TV did not work and the remote control was labelled as Radisson Edwardian. Evening meal was not very good and the only item I could recomend was my collegues burger. The tiramisu was inedible. I would have complained but after it had sat on the table for 30 minutes we were still having problems getting anyones attendtion, when someone did come to the table we asked for the bill. When we left the restaurant was empty (9.30pm). It was similarly difficult to get anyones attention to ask about breakfast options I did inform checkout that the hairdryer in my room was broken and that all of my collegues had issues with the water for showers. Faye had arranged for my room rate to be reduced to reflect my poor experience.

Booked this hotel after seeing a good deal advertised on Travelzoo, but have come away with mixed emotions First impressions weren't good as it was almost impossible to contact the hotel by phone to confirm our booking. I sent an email but never received a reply, and after trying again by phone I eventually got the booking confirmed. The room we were allocated on arrival was a good size, with a king size bed and large bathroom but the evening meal which came as part of the package was disappointing, as was the price of the drinks which we had with our meal. Breakfast was self-service and a big improvement but part of this was cold, though I realise it must be difficult catering for a large amount of people over a 3 hour period Location is just off the M1 but poorly signposted, but there is only a little traffic noise in the hotel, and its a good base for exploring Derbyshire. I thought the price we paid was good value, and I would recommend the hotel to friends, but there are the areas of improvement I have mentioned As a footnote, I realised I left my phone charger in the room when I got home. I contacted the hotel reception (with difficulty) and I was told someone would phone me once they had got it, so it could be collected at a later date. I'm still waiting for the phone call...

Came here for a couple of days break after getting married. The room they first allocated us was apparently a superior room but with scum on the toilets and pubic hair as an added extra was a put off. The white window marking was also an awful view. They did however move us to a standard room with no arguments and nothing but apology. The room we were then put in was lovely and clean. We were much happier. There was especially a lovely lovely housekeeping member of staff called Deb who was an amazing person with a beautiful personality. She was more than helpful to anything we needed and very accommodating. People like her should have more recognition and we would like to thank her especially for the wedding card and gift she ran off to get us as soon as she heard we were newly weds. We also rang up the hotel to make sure she was noted for the work she does. The food in the restaurant was also very nice however sadly the breakfast let it down. It was cold and not up to the standard of meals we experienced in the evenings.

The chap on reception is a very plesant and personable chap, was easy to chat away to and checked us in without fuss or bother. A quick swipe of the credit card allowed drinks etc to be booked to the room as well as express checkout the following morning. The pool and spa bath were a welcome relaxation after a long day in the car on site visits.....too ralxing really, we were 50 minutes late for our table, however the hotel was not fully booked, neither was the restaurant anywhere near half capacity, so we had no idea why we were so thoroughly told off by the maitre d' ...... nor why we were ignored for the next 10 minutes. One worrying thing we noticed was that once tables were cleared, cutlery, crockery and glassware remaining on the table that hadn't apparently been used was left on the table for the next diners, ALL tableware should be removed and washed between diners regardless, that was the table can also be wiped over thoroughly. However our waitress Julie/ Jane? (sorry I can't remember your name) is an asset to your team. She was friendly, efficient and anticipated our needs, (in our opinion, she ought to be promoted to front of house) Our evening meal was good, served hot and it was ice to recieve a meal from a chef who isn't afraid to use chilli when a dish is advertised as containing it! Breakfast was buffet style, and although I only had boiled eggs, everything seemed to be kept well topped up. Staff throughout the hotel from cleaning staff to the leisure suite staff were all friendly, plenty of "good mornings" the room was clean and tidy but could do with a revamp. Given it's a Principal Hayley hotel & they also own the St Davids hotel in Cardiff Bay, decorationwise they are a world apart. Although close to the motorway, and my being used to my housew in the countryside where there's no passing traffic, road noise wasn't an issue. Plenty of parking available (with decent sized spaces) on site as well
"Business hotel that could be so much more."

First of all - this review is based on two stays in close proximity (within a two week period) staying for a total of nine nights. The good stuff first! Both times a warm welcome was extended by the reception staff, a young lady (Faye I believe) was the member of staff I spoke to most and who checked me in, she was lovely! Warm, kind and most importantly efficient without trying to push you on as fast as humanly possible. I was asked if i wanted to pay for the duration of the trip there and then to enable express checkout, (whereby you just pop your key in the little wallet you get and walk out). The location is just off the motorway and right by the east midlands outlet centre, which although not why i was there was quite handy when i realised i had forgotten my jumper! Parking is plentiful and you feel safe at the hotel. The hotel has has a bar, restaurant, swimming pool and gym, I only used the restaurant for breakfast which i will get to soon..... Free wi-fi is also throughout and although I had problems with it the first visit, the second time I had no issues whatsoever. The rooms are clean and usable, however they are rather dated, the TV is a very old CRT, channel choice is limited and i found that half the time it wasn't displaying the full picture. In the end I resorted to just using my macbook with iPlayer and catch up because I was getting so fed up with it! It amused me that the hotel has notices everywhere about being environmentally friendly and yet they have power hungry tele's in the rooms... They really need to sort this - not everyone wants to finish work and go sit in the bar, especially when your on your own. The shower on the first stay was interesting, the water was so hot, i had to run the tap to be able to stand it, this did seem a one time thing so (luckily)! Again on the first stay the shower head and power was pathetic, the head also leaked like a sieve so wasn't great, the second stay (a week later) had a much more powerful shower but it was still old and could do with being ripped out. I was in a lower floor the second stay so i can only assume the showers are drop fed. The bed was comfy and i did sleep well, there were the standard tea, UHT milk and a kettle to make drinks if you saw fit. The breakfast had a good selection but on a couple of instances i found that some of the cooked items weren't particularly warm - they were cooked and tasted good just where a little colder than they probably should be, I never saw anyone check the temperature (admittedly i wasn't keeping an eye out!. The most noticeable thing is there isn't a huge amount of consistency, the bathrooms all have different shower types (all old), some seem to have A/C with a controller in (old again) whereas others don't. It will be interesting to see if on my next visit (in a weeks time) i have another different visit and my room is massively different again. All together, the staff are lovely (I even had to help one of the maids who got herself in a right pickle with her trolley being stuck) and make you feel welcome. The location is good for business people and travellers, but the rooms are dated and need better toys (newer tv's better signal) but it does serve its purpose as a business hotel. It seemed to have a high throughput of customers but i only saw a couple for more than one day. It isn't the best hotel i have stayed in, but it isn't the worse, and assuming you don't pay anywhere near there advertised prices it is worth a stay (business). Bring on the next visit in 9 nights time!

We stayed one night bed and breakast. The rooms are on the small side but have everything you need, trouser press, hair dryer, tea and coffee facilities, iron, tv.The spa pool and gym are well equiped. The breakfast is self service and caters for every diet.i would give the breakfast 10 out of 10 the staff are all very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. As a smoker there is no seating just a little shelter but its a dirty habit anyway. On the downside the sat nav could not pick the hotel up as it is just off the motorway, so it is best to use a map or you will be going up the m1 6 times like we did.

My husband and i have just returned home from our 2 day stay at the Derbyshire Hotel, Normanton, and it was great! The staff were very helpful and friendly, lovely, nothing was too much trouble! Our room was comfortable, clean and well equipped. The leisure facilities on offer were great, but unfortunately we didnt have time to use them although we had taken our swimwear!! We had booked the offer with tickets for Chatsworth and it was fantastic! The meals were much better than i had expected after reading the last review for this hotel! The choice was good and each meal we had was exceptional. I have to say, the sticky toffee pudding was the best i have ever had!! Breakfast was lovely, plenty of choice and again the staff were lovely. We will definitely be returning to this hotel. Thank you to the manager and all the staff for making our weekend fab!!
