This Chateau/Hotel was just beautiful. The grounds were well maintained and the chateau was beautifully restored to it's original elegance. It was well located to the vineyards for wine tasting as well as the city of St. Emillion.The staff was cheerful, knowledgeable, and accommodating. We booked a deluxe room for 3 nights in mid October. The hotel heating/cooling system is apparently an either or - either you can have AC or heat, but not both. We arrived the day after they had switched from AC to heat. However, the first room they gave us, after unpacking, we found the heating system was not working. As temperatures get to the low […] 50's at night, this was not acceptable. We had to re-pack and move to another room in an out-building - some 5 minutes walk from the main bulding. Whoever built the Chateau originally would be very sad if he saw what has happened to it. The magnificent Chateau has been dummed down on with newly constructed additions that are out of sync with the feel and quality of the original.The hotel is a typical example of an absentee owner who is focused on the bottom line rather than quality and undoubtedly […] this hotel will need sizeable investment in its infrastructure and maintenance. There are sprinkler systems on the grounds which have not worked in a very long time resulting in a parched landscape rather than the park setting it deserves. Deferred maintenance is evident. The hotel recently changed the a/c system in a way that the individual guests can no longer control the temperature, but it is the hotel which determines what is comfortable. We were there during a heat wave and the entire a/c system broke down. The good news is that location is excellent, the original chateau is still beautiful, and unless you are there during the hot season, you should be ok with the temperture settings. One towel per person which you must also use at the pool is a ridicolous standard for a luxury hotel. The rooms in the new addition are functional and adequate and still compare favorably to many other hotels in the area. The staff of the hotel are trying to do a good job but they are indeed handicapped by realities they can't overcome. A great opportunity has been missed by opting for average when great would have been within reach. Read more

Both of the people at the reception office were very rude to both me & my wife. They had a real snobbish air. To top checkin off, we only had two small bags, and when the bellman offered to take them we said we were OK, and he developed a horrid attitude and began complaining in French. Our room was ok & the bathroom was very nice. We ate lunch at the […] restaurant and the staff there was very nice to us. However, each and every time I had to deal with the front desk, they were terrible. They never even showed us the grounds or explained where anything was, such as the pool. I would suggest visiting for lunch/dinner and taking pics if you're into that sort of thing, but I would never stay there again. It is WAY overpriced and the antiamerican sentiment oozes from the front desk. On our trip we stayed at about 10 different hotels ranging from 2 to 4 star and this was by far our least favorite and, unfortunately, most expensive. Read more

Hotel is located in the midst of expansive vineyards. Countryside is beautiful, the hotel itself is delightful. We had dinner on the restaurant terrace as the sun went down. The food was delicious and our bottle of Chateaux Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac 2007 was the perfect accompaniment. We were sorry we couldn't stay longer.

Bel hotel dans un chateau plein de charme, le personnel de la réception etait très accueillant à chaque fois. Nous y avons séjourné 2 nuits en chambre Deluxe, dans une annexe du chateau "la maison du bien être". Nous avions une chambre au 1er étage, très spacieuse, propreté impeccable. Très grand lit et très bonne literie. Belle et grande SDB, douche […] italienne et baignoire. Décoration soignée. Notre chambre avait vue sur le vignoble (demandé à la réservation en appelant le chateau en direct). Tres belle vue au 1er etage. Par commodité nous avons diné le premier soir au chateau. Nous avons mangé en exterieur, sur la terrasse très agréable. Le service etait très bien, present juste ce qu'il faut. D'un point de vue tarif, un peu cher toutefois pour une qualité identique à des restaurants dans St Emilion (50 euros environ pour le menu terroir par personne sans le vin). Mais le cadre est là ! A proximité de St Emilion mais pour aller sur St emilion en centre ville je recommande un véhicule (voiture ou velo). Nous y retournerons avec plaisir ! Read more

世界遺産、サンテミリオンの街からは車で約5分。 シャトーの周りもブドウ畑に囲まれ、ボルドーに来たことを実感できるすばらしい環境のホテルです。 レストランも併設されており、これはかなりなレベルのレストラン。 ホテル前の駐車場にはポルシェ、メルセデス等、超高級車がずらり。 ちょうどブドウ収穫の数週間前の訪問で、どの木もたわわに実ったブドウの房でいっぱい。 朝、窓から眺めたブドウ畑の風景は一生忘れられません。

The castle itself is very beautiful, but unfortunately you will not see much of it unless you actually get a room in the castle. Most guests have their rooms in the paviljons (1990's) which have been built around it, almost totaly covering it from 3 sides. Mind you, there is nothing wrong with the paviljons or the rooms, or with the spa or the pool […] area (except maybe that it makes you think a bit of a gated community in florida), but it would have been so much better if the castle had been allowed to stay a castle. Chateau Grand Barrail ligger vackert placerat mitt bland vinrankorna strax utanför Saint Emillion. Slottet har nyligen renoverats och erbjuder allt en kräsen och inbiten vinälskare kan vilja uppnå med en tur till ett av Frankrikes mest kända vinområden. Det är inte billigt , men med tanke på vad som erbjuds, motsvarar priserna upplevelsen. Rummet vi […] fick var väl disponerat, hade en underbar utsikt över slottets egna vinodlingar och adekvat utrustat. Hotellet har en fin spaanläggning med gym (inte så väl utrustat) och bastu samt hamam, En stor utomhuspool finns också vilket verkligen uppskattades eftersom temperaturen under vår vistelse stundtals rörde sig upp mot 30 grader. Restaurangen ligger i det ursprungliga slottet och är en fröjd för ögat, likaså maten. Vi åt middag en kväll på terassen som blickar ut mot trädgården och upplevelsen var magisk - franska köket at its best! Servicen under middagen var utmärkt, och vi kommer sent att glömma denna kulinariska höjdpunkt på vår resa. Saint Emillion ligger ca 5-6 km bort och dit tar man sig bäst med bil, men om man tänker njuta vinet där, bör man helst ta taxi eller helt enkelt cykla. Cyklar finns att hyra på hotellet och landskapet kring slottet är flackt vilket gör det enkelt att bara trampa på. Alltså på det hela taget en mycket positiv upplevelse av hotellet. Dock bör man överväga om man skall äta frukost på hotellet eller inte. Frukostbuffén kostar ca 24 euro/person - i högsta laget även om den är omfattande och helt perfekt, men med tanke på att man kan få en enklare men helt tillräcklig frukost inne i Saint Emillion för två personer motsvarande mindre än halva slottsfrukosten så är nog detta att rekommendera. I staden finns mängder av pittoreska caféer och restauranger, så det är bara att välja. Ytterligare en sak att tänka på är att vinet i synnerhet på slottet men också på Saint Emillions restauranger och barer, är dyrt, även bara ett glas, trots att vi här befinner oss mitt i vinets Mecka. Nous sommes allés à l'hôtel Grand Barrail pour une nuit lors d'un week-end à Saint Emilion. Nous avons été très satisfaits de l'accueil, de la propreté ainsi que de la disponibilité du personnel de l'hôtel. De plus, l'hôtel est entouré d'un étang ainsi que de vignes à perte de vue, il est donc très calme et silencieux. Les deux seuls points négatifs […] sont la situation géographique (10 minutes de Saint Emilion sur la départementale) et le prix du petit déjeuner (40 euros par personne) qui n'est pas compris dans le prix de la chambre. Je recommande donc cet hôtel pour un week-end romantique mais conseille d'aller prendre le petit déjeuner à Saint Emilion (comme nous l'avons fait) où le repas sera moins cher et plus varié.
