"A Consistently Good Choice"
This was not my first stay at the Kras and will not be my last. As someone who values their time and comfort, I would not consider staying anywhere else. The staff was exceptional in accommodating my various requests and who can forget that breakfast?? The location is tops and the pricing is fair.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I picked this hotel primarily for its location near the water front and the city bus tour start point. Both were a short walk away from hotel. Other pluses include the the staff and breakfast. The only detractors I would say that the doors a little thin and you can hearvthe traffic passing by. Overall I would recommend the Commodore.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very nice, walking distance from waterfront"
Very nice hotel, great staff and tour desk. The location is great and within walking distance of the waterfront.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel for a weekend escape!"

""On the Waterfront" Classic"
Economical, yet not short on charm. The breakfasts were well done, and it was nice to be able to sit outside to enjoy the fresh air. The location at the Waterfront is convenient, making most of the nearby attractions quite walkable. To a person, the hotel staff were friendly and efficient. Overall, a good value and location.Genuine Expedia guest review
"OK, nothing special"
The hotel is fine. Clean, good shower, OK beds. I can't give it more than a rating of OK because it is nothing special. My issues: --It is not a nonsmoking hotel and we had neighbors that smoked on their balcony and it came into our room. Breakfast, with lovely outdoor seating was marred by the numerous smokers. -- The rooms are small (for American […] standards, on par with European rooms.) --The hotel staff took two days to fix a broken light bulb. --The breakfast was horrible. The food was just not good, nor was the coffee --The place is not very soundproof. We heard every conversation of groups walking down the hall and I could hear the TV next door. The location is handy for the waterfront, but nothing else. If you stay here, plan to get a cab to do anything in City Bowl. There is no good way to walk..and that is not the hotel's fault, that is true for all waterfront hotels. We did have a lovely view out our 4th floor window. It was fine, I just would not race back. Very comfortable hotel. The staff are very friendly and willing to help. The Travel Desk is outstanding. Breakfast buffets is very large and varied. The location is great. Rooms near the courtyard can be bit loud if you're on a lower floor.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel and very well located"
I very pleasant because I didn't use car any day of my stay all things is very near and easy to walk, eat and shop.Genuine Expedia guest review
it could be more cheaper for what it is, the only good thing about this hotel is that it is 5 minutes from v&a.Genuine Expedia guest review
great location, good views of table mountain, a little dated in decor, bed was a little hard but a good value hotelGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Needs updating and renovation"
While in a lovely setting this, old hotel needs a total renovation. It must have beeen great in its day, but now all needs to be redone. The service is excellent and the premises are very clean. The breakfast buffet is adequate;however, dinner was just mediocre. The location is within walking distance of the waterfront and you might ask for a room that […] faces the waterfront and Table Mountain...awesome! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The rooms are very old style and require some renevation to compete with more modern hotels in the area.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Does what it says on the tin"
Good 4* hotels. Rooms are smallish, but good service and definitely clean! Retro feel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Waterfront location"
The Commodore is in a great location. Only minutes from the V & A, aquarium, craft markets. I had a lovely afternoon at the spa as well. The staff were very helpful in arranging transport and reservations.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"One of the best."
The Commodore Hotel felt like home. All the staff were so friendly and helpful and full of smiles and warm hellos. The hotel itself is one of the best where I have ever stayed. Old world charm with all the current amenities and conveniences. And the location couldn't be better with wonderful views of Table Mtn and the wharf and only a few minutes walk […] from the mall. I just wish you weren't so far away. It was a rare treat. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great Location + Old World Charm"
This hotel has a great location next to the downtown waterfront of Cape Town. It has an old world charm that is pleasantly nostalgic. Rooms are comfortable and clean. It would be preferred if hotel maintenance wouldn't paint at 8 am however, then turn the fan on to have it dry quicker and not pay attention as to where the fumes are going ie: right into […] the room where I gave up early on sleep and checked out kind of whoozy... I would easily go back here however, just not near any construction zones. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Good Hotel at a Very Convenient Location with Good Food"
This hotel is at a great location and has a fairly good restaurant. The strengths include free internet, large safe in the room, refrigerators in rooms, great breakfast buffet, good cold beer at the lounge, and concierge staff that are ready to call cabs and arrange trips. I cannot think of any weaknesses other than (possibly) the fact that, for security […] reasons, in order to close the door from outside (as in going out), one has to shut it closed, which can be noisy in the middle of the night (that did not bother us, but I do not know of other guests). For some travelers it might also be of some interest that our room did not have a flat-screen TV (perhaps there are some available in other rooms). Cape Town has so much to offer, there is so much to do outside, that we did not watch any TV during the entire 9-day stay, so this was not a problem for us. The reliability and availability of the internet more than made up for the TV being a little dated. I strongly recommend this hotel to an average traveler for whom convenient location, safety, reasonable comfort, and value are of importance. Thank you for reading my opinion. We were in Capetown for 5 nights, and choosed The Commodore Hotel because of his location and price. Although the hotels located in the Waterfront region are very expensive, The Commodore had a reasonable price. It is a very good 4 star hotel. The room was spacious and nice, the breakfast was good and the location was perfect!! The staff could be more […] helpful, but we didn´t have any problem with that. I strongly recommend this hotel, specially for its location. If you are going to Capetown, specially in holiday, the Waterfront is the place to stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The staff was very helpful. They offered us a free dinner to cover any inconveniences we encountered and it was very good. Our room was beautiful!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The Commodore V&A Waterfront provides convenient access to waterfront attractions and restaurants. We stayed in the Balmoral Castle Suite with balcony views of both Table Mountain and the harbor. The accomodations were clean and comfortable. Our one dinner in the hotel restaurant was very good. The proximity to the harbor also was convenient because […] we arrived by cruise ship. "Good But Not Great!"
Commodore hotel advertisement present a view that I did not really have although I tried two different room locations. The view may be better on the top two floors but believe it or not those floors are for people who smoke. It is a 6 story hotel and we stayed on the 4th floor. We had a balcony which was small and without furniture. We saw a little […] of the waterfront but mostly the top of another building from our room. The area we were in was the waterfront. That I believe is the main draw of the hotel. It is a nice shopping and eating area and is safe to be in any time of day or night. Otherwise there was nothing special about the hotel. By American standards breakfast was great. By African hotel standards however it was mediocre. Only on the 3rd day did I realize that one could ask for items such as large glasses or waffles that were not laid out in the buffet style eating area. It is a decent hotel in a nice location and when on sale it might be less expensive than other hotels in the vicinity. I had a better time in a mere 3 star hotel "the Ritz" in the past in terms of food and service. However the furnishings at the Commodore are superior and the location is much nicer. It is also closer to downtown Cape Town where I did a lot of sight seeing. I don't think I will stay there when I return for the next jazz festival but there is nothing wrong with this hotel. "The Commodore Hotel, Cape Town -- only 1 criticism"
We thoroughly enjoyed the Commodore -- Nice room, great location, friendly staff, excellent breakfast. The only criticism I have is that the cost of the shuttle from the airport to the hotel was exhorbitant! Next time I'd find another way to get there!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"great location and staff"
The Commodore is very close to the V & A Waterfront and the Cape Town Stadium. We were in town for an event at the stadium and could not have picked a better location. The breakfast was delicious and the bar service was very good. The gentleman at the client relations desk kindly escorted me to the excess luggage store so that I could ship items to […] the US. "Very Convenient hotel"
They shoud designate floors as nonsmoking or smoking vs every other room or so. Beds could be softer and they could change sheets more often. After 7 nights, we still had the same sheets. "Enjoyed the stay"
The hotel is what we expected from a four star rated hotel. I was impressed how an iron and ironing board arrived within minutes of being requested. Staff were friendly and helpful. The only down side was that our room on the sixth floor was subject to night-long machine noise (probably from the airconditioning machinery) when we had the windows open. "Good quality hotel, close to V&A Waterfront"
Very nice hotel located just a short walk from the shops and restaurants at the V&A waterfront. The room was comfortable and well equipped, with free WIFI access. hotel was great location in terms of access to the waterfront and in safe area. i was at the hotel as a single traveller for two nights and thus was fine for this purpose. i wouldn't want to stay at the hotel for longer as rooms were pretty basic and not the type of hotel I would want to hang out at - this was fine for me as i was out on tours during […] the day so was sufficient - but if i was in cape town for longer, i'd find another place to say. Excellent hotel with well trained, professional staff who made the stay both pleasurable and enjoyable. Location is perfect - just 2 mins walk to V&A. "1st time in V&A Waterfront."
The location, comfort & beakfast were superb and the staff excellent. When I return to this part of the world, this will be my choice of hotel. Thank you.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel experience overall was good. It is very conviently located for accessing the V&A waterfront which is great. Reasonably priced and all of the staff were happy and helpful. The one thing we were disappointed with was the quality of the cleaning of our room each day. "Lovely Stay at The Commodore"
The Commodore is in a great position we found it an easy walk to the Waterfront via the Parking Lot stairs , we didnt walk back at night so cant comment how safe that way is but during the day it was a quick access to the market hall. When i did our booking there was an option for a "suite" room which i took but on booking in we found it was a standard […] room , upon checking with reception they said we had only booked a standard suite which is a normal room, i thought this incorrect as my understanding of a " suite" is different to a standard room, but the management did agree to change our room and moved us to a lovely room with an amazing view of Table Mountain when it was visiable that is. We enjoyed our stay at the Commodore, the staff were very attentive and friendly, the meal in the dinning room for dinner was 5 star and we would really recommend staying at the Commodore Hotel Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great way to see Cape Town"
The great thing about the Commodore is that it is withing easy walking distance (10 mins max) of the V&A Waterfront with its myriad shops and restaurants but it is much less expensive than those hotels actually on the Waterfront. It is also close to the Red Bus Tour terminus which is a great way to see cape Town (and very good value).Genuine Expedia guest review
"suitable for couples or business not family."
Very pleasing hotel and staff - couldn't do enough for you. when we asked or requested for anything it was dealt with efficiently ! Would return again and could recommend as a pleasant hotel but not luxurious!!!Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel is a bit tired and could do with upgrade. AC unit very noisy in room as its the old style unit. Staff were nice but cleaning of room wasn't consistent. Great location as its only a 2 minute walk to the waterfront.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The service was exceptional and breakfast was great. however, the exhauast fan in the bathroom and the air conditioning unit were too noisy and the exhaust fan was non stop!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Adequate base to explore Cape Town"
Staff very helpful. Evening meals unimaginative for class of hotel. Breakfast somewhat disappointing. Situated in prime spot. Could do with modernization of decor.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel is very clean, good service, 3 minutes walking to waterfront. Good breakfast, food at the bar is not so good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect location for city touring & V&A Waterfront"
Great location - At the airport get the MyCiti bus to CityExchange, change & take MyCiti bus to Granger Bay stop. Hotel is only 5 minutes walk away. The V&A Waterfront is just across from the hotel - again about 5 minutes & the first building you encounter is the Information centre, so perfect for advice. The Red & Blue city tour (recommended) starts […] a further 8 minutes or less from there. Hotel staff are very polite and friendly, though at breakfast it can be difficult at times to get them to pour coffee or tea, as they're so busy, but that's not a real criticism! Free wifi in both bedrooms and all public areas and reasonably good, too. As a gay male couple in our early 50s, we were made very welcome, without any fuss. Refreshing change compared to some countries. Concierge and hotel staff are available 24 hours a day in the lobby if there are any problems and can order taxis for you, etc. Rooms were well presented, clean and comfy, with fresh towels etc if required. My only criticism of the widescreen TV in the bedroom would be that it was analogue only and limited to the number of channels that could be received - we stuck to Sky News, as the only other "interesting" channel was CNN. No BBC News 24 for example, or a satellite choice of UK channels, as you can expect in Europe, but then again this is South Africa. All in all, we commented more than once that we thought we had chosen the right hotel for our week's stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"one block to V&A Waterfront"
First room we were shown was small, no balcony (as our reservation called for) and no view. Talked to reception - very helpful - and we were given a lovely room with balcony and fantastic view of Table Mountain. There were a few minor issues such as the door to our balcony was really hard to open and then didn't close well and our bags were not moved […] from the old room even when we called down to the desk to remind them. Also, don't eat at the hotel. The food was not very good and there are fantastic restaurants on the waterfront. Having said that, the room was very comfortable, the location fantastic and we would definitely stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
