"Conveniently located, but tiny room!"
01/25/15 katandko London
The Ibis Cologne Centrum hotel is conveniently located a couple of minutes walk from Barbarossaplatz tram stop. You can get from Dom to this tram stop in 4 stops and buy a reduced price tram ticket for trips 4 stops or less. You have to cross a couple of busy main roads to get to the hotel, but it's really easy to get to. The hotel is stylish and we really like the Ibis style. The furniture is funky and colourful, and the checking in process was quick. We found our room easily, but when we opened the door we were surprised how tiny the room was. It was an odd shape and there wasn't much around the large bed. There was a tiny suitcase storage area, a slight desk, a TV, a chair, and a really small bathroom. The bathroom would have felt bigger if they hadn't put in such a large sink - this is what took up most of the room. The shower was fairly spacious too which was nice, but the actual floor space was small and slightly claustrophobic. I'm not used to sitting on the toilet and being able to touch 3 walls so easily! The room didn't come with luxuries, but the bed was comfortable, the pillows and duvets were great and we didn't hear any noise from the outside. However we did hear some noise from the corridor and were woken with a knock on the door before 8am by the cleaner. We didn't appreciate this as we were only staying for one night and check out wasn't for a few hours. Checking out was irritating because there were a small group taking a long time to check in. One receptionist was 'busy' tending an empty bar and ignoring the queue forming. Then 2 other guests just walked to the front of the reception, ignoring the queue and the second receptionist came over and checked them out. We were annoyed that he hadn't come over to ask us if we needed help and had clearly been waiting about 15 minutes at the reception area. He didn't even tell the other guests there was a queue, or apologise to us for waiting. As you can imagine, this left a bit of a sour taste for the service we received. We would stay here again though. We thought the 24 hours of free wifi was good and the room was comfortable, despite the small size.
"Good location, poor breakfast"

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights for work, the room is small and the bathroom very small but clean, the location of the hotel is good with a tram stop 3 mins walk away, the staff are friendly and helpful, there is free wifi in the room and reception area. The breakfast was pretty poor with not much selection.

"Superb location for travelling, markets and sights"

We stayed here the week before Christmas as we were attending a musical theatre performance. We took the opportunity to visit 6 Christmas markets in Cologne. The hotel was exactly what we needed. We could enter from the station without even going outside! The corridor outside our room overlooked the station platform but the room was not noisy at all. We had an excellent breakfast with a wide range of hot and cold items. The restaurant overlooked the cathedral. Staff were very helpful and friendly and we were able to have coffee in the foyer after our long day around the city. There were lots of restaurants nearby and the river was just a few minutes away. 2 of the main markets were also a few minutes away and we spent a great evening enjoying the food and drink and music and generally soaking up the wonderful atmosphere. This hotel was good value, clean, comfortable and with helpful staff we would certainly return.
"great location, good value"

Pros: This hotel is very close to a tram stop (about 100 yrds) and so its quick and easy to get to central Cologne and the main station. Less than 10 mins (four stops) on the tram or a 15 minute walk (partly along the river if you like). The immediate area was also lively with bars and restaurants close by, although the hotel itself was nice and quiet. Cons: The first room we were allocated hadn't been cleaned, but we were quickly given a different room by reception. The corridor smelled of stale smoke and in the morning I could smell fresh cigarette smoke coming from close by, despite the fact that it was supposed to be non-smoking.
"Good choice for a short stay"

We (4) spent one night in the middle of December visiting the Christmas markets. Due to the fact that Cologne is an expensive place the price level of this hotel is also a bit high compare with other similar hotels in less frequented places. However, with an Accorhotels card the price was acceptable. It was a big positive that the garage was only for 10 euros a night. Even if the tram stop is near we walked to the centre =/- 15-20 minutes. The breakfast was correct, and according to the Ibis standard. Even close to the end of the breakfast time there were pancake on the table. As a negative, as I forgot to ask a quiet rooms, one of our rooms was at the end of the corridor next to some electric/ventilation room so, sometimes was some noise. But, it was not so strong that we would ask another room. Yes, the rooms and particularly the bathrooms are small, but for "normal size" persons it should be enough. However, should you have some extra weight, you should rather check whether there are larger facilities available. The beds are ok, the wifi ok, the staff was always helpful. This is why we use several times Ibis during our journeys. Should we come back to Cologne, this will be our accomodation.
"Catastrofic Receptionist . The 10 minute garantee is not worth a penny"

I lost my ID Card and could not find it. So I phoned the hotel and asked Mr. Andreas Kahl to look in my room. He phoned back after 10 minutes to tell me that he found my Lufthansa FTL Card but not my ID. So I asked him to look again and suddenly it was found. I took a taxi from the airport to collect it so that I could travel.. When I arrived at the hotel I asked the dark haired lady receptionist .to give me my ID Card . She said I have not got it . I said to her Mr. Kahl called me and told me he found it . She said to me there is no Mr. Kahl and started shouting at me . So I shouted back. Suddenly the blonde receptionist looked in a drawer and had it in the hand and gave it to me. An unqualified employee who spoiled the stay. My letter to the hotel was never answered
"Not quite in the Centrum"

This ibis hotel is located in the university district to the west of the city. It is a pretty good location especially if you are looking for the sort of stuff which you can find around universities. The staff was pretty ignorant and when we were there the place was filled with a British student group, which was running amok through the place. Bar was nice and the bartender was cheerful.
"Nice budget hotel"
12/16/14 bataviaguy2014 Zutphen, The Netherlands
Plus points : The room is clean and comfortable. Good service. German and English speaking staffs. They provided a free WiFi, also in the hotelroom. This hotel has its own parking garage and the rate is EUR 10 per day, which is cheap. Location of the hotel is just 10 minutes walking distance from Rudolfplaatz. Minus points: The room and the bathroom are too small for two persons. There are no safety box, water heater, coffee or tea in the room. We had standard quality breakfast and it is not even included (we paid EUR 10 per person). Furthermore, the room rates in the first week of December (when we stayed) was pretty high due to the 1st opening weekend of Christmas Market in Cologne. We paid total amount of EUR 140 and for a budget hotel like this, it was away too expensive.
