"Dirty, poorly-maintained hotel in great location"
After booking this hotel, I looked at reviews on several websites and discovered that the hotel has a reputation for being dirty. This was absolutely true during my stay. The carpet in the hallways was stained and smelled, one of the two elevators is broken and has been for some time, and in my room, there were a number of issues. Both the chair and […] the throw on the bed had stains, there were numerous hairs on the comforter, and the bathroom had a sagging ceiling, chips out of the door, stains in the tile, and hair stuck to the walls. Throughout the room there were scrapes and scuffs on the walls. The heater in the room was incredibly loud and woke us up every time it turned on (every 30 minutes or so). Also, the hallway that leads from the garage into the main hotel was dirty and did not inspire confidence or a sense of welcome. Overall, it felt like an environment in which hotel staff just didn't care about keeping a clean, professional environment. The staff that I spoke to on check-in and check-out were polite and friendly, and the provided breakfast was perfectly adequate. However, I would certainly not stay in this hotel again, nor recommend it to friends. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A great location, satisfactory hotel"
Some mentioned a strange smell in the hotel, which I noticed on our first day, but either it went away or I got used to it. The hotel was clean, the wifi worked, there was enough parking, and there were plenty of options for breakfast. The location was ideal for my business trip, just minutes from all the places I had to visit. No bells and whistles, […] but staff were friendly and I would stay here again. Not good. Couldn't control the room temperature to get comfortable. The thermostat appeared to be set at 76 degrees and I couldn't get it down to 68 or 70. Not comfortable at all.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
TV remote didn't work. Lock on door was broken. Drunk girls pounding on door at 3am. I called down to complain and front desk person just said they were drunk. He didnt bother to send security. Bed was comfortable but heat was hard to regulate so it was really hot all night. Breakfast was good.Genuine Expedia guest review
Decent for the price, location good for walking and to near the hospital. Bed was hard as a rock....Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"problem not solved"
While checking in was pleasant and the room itself seemed up to date, there was a horrific smell in the room. It smelled like sewage. I called the front desk and promptly someone was sent. When we opened the door, the staff member walked in without any kind of greeting and without permission simply starting spraying something all over the room, including […] over our clothes. Before leaving, the staff member offered to leave the spray bottle in case the smell came back. Now we could barely breathe with all the scents that were overwhelming and bothersome to allergies. We weren't quite sure how to respond. It wasn't a pleasant experience. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Convenient to Central West End"
Room was ok. Bathroom very small; narrow shower; condition marginal.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room and the hallways were really dirty. There appeared to be only 2 staff members working. I didn't see one housekeeper.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel is a great location in the central west end! you can walk to Forest Park daily. The shops and bars in the surrounding area are awesome. The price was great. The hotel: they need to vacuum the floor in the hallways. Bed Was comfy. Did not like the bathroom with the shower that was for ADA standards- when we do not need that at all. Horrible […] lighting in the bathroom. Plus scuff marks all on the walls. So... the hip bright colours of the paint are cool, but consider going back to the fall colours or something more warm. We had to ask daily for more towels and face clothes. No idea as there were 2 of staying in the room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Most horrible hotel ever"
Dirty and stinking carpet inside the room and corridor , Tiles missing in the shower area and brown water leaks from toilet to the shower area.. when we complained about this, staff was not concerned about this at all... Please don't ruin your trip.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Place was decent however they only had one staff member, Tamika who could not provide us with any bathroom tissue!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"No temp control, no space, and stinks"
Whenever I have a bad experience at a hotel, it makes me rethink using that chain ever again; this is one of those situations. When we arrived, we were thrown with the decor (bright orange walls one example) & tiny room, but thought we could make it work. If those were the only problems, sure. The hotel is fairly old, but we didn't expect to be unable […] to change the room temperature. The entire hotel temp is controlled by one unit & we were on the third floor. It was 20 degrees outside, 85 in our room. We turned on the air conditioning, nothing came out except heat. We called downstairs & said the air wasn't working. They told us there was no air conditioning, turn it off and wait. The hallway was burning up (since heat rises & we were on the third floor, we were baking) so we couldn't open the door to cool it off. We had to open the drapes so cool air from the windows could cool off the room..hours later. They did at least give us a fan. The bathroom had a mildew smell, no vanity to speak of & the shower was extremely cramped. Wi-fi was non-existent. The bed creaked. My wife & I couldn't walk about the room at the same time it was so cramped. People stomping in the halls, laughing & partying at 3 AM. Worst hotel stay I've ever had. I hate giving a review this bad, but the only good thing to say about it is the downtown location. Within walking area of some good restaurants. If I were the owner of this hotel, I'd bulldoze it & start over. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel was a nice place overall. It was in convenient proximity to Sweetie Pies Upper Crust restaurant. This was the main reason I stayed overnite in St Louis. Please make sure to stop for a Fantastic Soul meal there. The only downside of this hotel was the bathroom. The shower stall was very narrow. The shower curtain was not waterproof & was too […] short & the water flowed out onto the floor. The toilet was too close to the sink vanity so you had to lean/turn sideways in order to be more comfortable. This was rather uncomfortable while on the toilet. It was an extremely long maze like walk from the elevator to the room. The carpeting in the public hallways was extremely stained & dirty. Otherwise overall a nice place to stay. "Good location, hotel could use a update"
The location was great but the hotel it's self is in need of a major overhaul. Everything could use a coat of paint. Also, you can only have heating or cooling depending on what the building has on.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Disappointed & Disgusted"
Upon check in we arrived at our room to find it had not been cleaned at all since the previous night. It was disgusting! When we called down to the front desk to request another room we were placed on hold. While on hold we noted the heat in the room was stuck at a boiling 82 degrees with no way to turn down the thermostat. After three or four minutes […] of waiting on hold we decided to check out and go somewhere else. While offering nothing in return for our inconvenience the desk clerk was kind enough not to charge us for the room. Very disappointing to say the least. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

We enjoyed out stay. The carpets were very dirty through out the hotel. Our room was clean and we really like the hard floors instead of carpet in the rooms. The breakfast was very good but too small of a room. Guest were having to stand to eat their breakfast. We will keep this hotel in mind when we are back in the area. "Good location, poor condition of hotel."
Got to the hotel at 3:30 and had to wait 30 minutes for our rooms to be ready along with about 15 other people. Hotel wasn't very clean at all. Location is good if you aren't planning to spend much time at the hotel. Service was OK but didn't go above to help when needed. Hotel is obviously older and in need of some major renovations.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Loved the location but that's where it ended. The room wasn't ready when we arrived and wasn't clean when we got to it. We had an event to go to so we requested that they clean it while we were gone. When we returned it was exactly as we left it. It also had to be one of the nosiest hotels we have ever stayed in.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The bathroom was dirty and stunk like mildew. A small cockroach crawled across the bed in the morning one day. I was checked out for some reason between the first and second night. I was charged a "no show" fee (which was removed later) for some reason. The room was not serviced after the first night. The ac went out the second night and the room was […] close to 90 degrees for about 2 hours. On the bright side, the staff was super friendly and apologetic about the issues. I still will not plan to stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Luxury, No...Comfort, Yes."
If you're looking for tremendous luxury, you're probably not reading reviews of a Comfort Inn. This place was comfortable enough, priced appropriately enough, and very conveniently located in a great neighborhood. Lots of great restaurants and night spots are within walking distance. We found the staff outstanding (all very friendly and helpful) and […] the facilities in decent shape. The bed was pretty comfortable, and everything was clean. We had some trouble with the temp in the room and the heat/air conditioning was a bit slow to respond (but we got there eventually). We had no problem with noise. There was no soap in our bathroom, but we had brought our own so we didn't mind. The shower in our bathroom was very small (narrow); I could see an overweight guest getting stuck in there! Parking could be a problem here; we got back to the hotel just before 2 a.m. on a Saturday night and got the very last parking space available in either the outdoor lot or tight parking garage (and getting into that last spot in the garage was quite an adventure). Mostly because of the great staff and perfect location, we'll definitely consider staying here again when we return to St. Louis. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Room wasn't ready in time for check in. 2 hours late. Room was too hot would not cool down. No bath towels only one hand towel and two wash cloths. No espn or any sports channels. No refrigerator or microwave. Too pricey!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The location of this hotel is terrific. Just a couple of blocks from Forest Park and around the corner from the West End trendy shops and restuarants. The hotel has been remodelled as far as decor and includes "hardwood looking" floors in the guest rooms (brilliant idea, much easier to keep clean!). The beds are comfy. Someone, however, was NOT thinking […] when they chose flat paint on the guest room walls including the bathroom walls. I assume since flat paint is more difficult to clean marks off of, they chose to touch up the paint in scuffed areas. Regrettably the paint didn't match and therefore left obvious patches everywhere which made the room look shabby. That is a shame since the room was actually well decorated. The most frustrating thing we encountered was the thermostat. The room was set at 83 degrees when we arrived! It was obviously hot in the room. Before we left for dinner we set the thermostat to 70, turned it to COOL and set the fan on automatic. When we returned 3 hours later, it was STILL 83 degrees and the vent was blowing warm air. I called the front desk and was told that the entire hotel was set to "heat" since it was late October and even if we set our room thermostat to cool, it would still only push warm air. Their advice was to turn the thermostat off altogether. Why have thermostats in the rooms if they can't be controlled by the guest? Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

The check in was enjoyable. The lady at the counter was nice and friendly. Waling to my room the hallway carpet was dirty and filthy. In my room my toilet handle was close to the wall. "Good place to stay"
I really liked the location of the hotel. It is in a safe walkable neighborhood & was close to local eateries as well as a Metro stop. The staff was all very nice. The housekeeper went out of her way to let us in our room when we got back to our room after the checkout time. The desk gal even reactivated a key to get us in. They were accommodating to […] our late check out. The breakfast was well stocked and had a lot of choices Our only issues were that we asked for a roll away when we arrived and had to ask twice more (waiting until late night) before they delivered it. The hallway carpets really need to be shampooed. Otherwise the hotel is updated and very clean. I will stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Clean room, but I could not stand in the shower without touching the wall or curtain. Also, towels outside of the bathroom for no apparent reason (there was room under the vanity). Didn't like the fake hardwood floors, either. Not comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"What you'd expect"
This hotel is pricey considering the quality and comfort it offers. The advantage, and price, probably comes from its proximity to the terrific west end eateries - within walking distance. Otherwise, it is so-so - slamming doors, television noise from adjacent rooms, not enough towels, decent but typical breakfast. Parking can be difficult, although […] there is an underground parking garage, getting from there into the hotel requires stairs. It wouldn't be my first choice next time - for the price, there are more comfortable hotels nearby. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Should have listened to the bad reviews -"
Should have listened to the bad reviews - VERY ACCURATE. If you like living in filth, this hotel is for you. I have never stayed in hotel so dirty. My shoes stuck to the floor, the walls had some kind of film on them, I took a washcloth and wiped just to see if it would come off, and there was a clean swipe of color where I had wiped. When I did take […] off my shoes and walk around a bit, my white socks were BLACK. The bed was pretty good, and the room was quiet, but I was very disappointed with the cleanliness. The hotel staff were cleaning spots off a very dirty hall carpet and elevator floor. Also, just a side note, when I was first assigned a room, we hauled everything up there and it wasn't even cleaned !!!! They assigned us another one, but we had to haul everything downstairs, wait in line while the hotel staff chatted about their weekend, and finally get assigned another room (the dirty one). "Definitely not a three-star location"
Checked in, walked to my room & couldn’t get in. Back downstairs to have keys reprogrammed. Tried it a second time, to no avail. During the back and forth, I could help notice the huge stains in the hallway carpeting. Looked like massive oil spills everywhere. Finally the clerk assigned me a different room, tried that room and by the sound of the […] load scream, it was already occupied by a terrified woman with a great set of lungs… Trekked once again downstairs with all my belongings and two daughters. Clerk (only one on duty was a bit busy this time. On the phone and from all the apologizing, I concluded he was on the phone with what seemed to be the horrified woman I just spooked. Finally, this time the clerk got it right… a room I can actually enter, that’s unoccupied. First thing we noticed was the foul odor in the room, luckily I always travel with scented candles… We were out all day and when we returned after dinner, the room hadn’t been touched by housekeeping. We were assigned another room. Same scenario the very next day…back mid-day and no housekeeping. Called front desk, who was assured by the supervisor that our room would be next on list to be cleaned…HA! Time for dinner and no housekeeping visit, so prior to stepping out I reminded the front desk and was assured it would be taken care of…HA!!! Another room change…ERRRRRRR Had I not prepaid for a three night stay, I would’ve made an about-face and stayed elsewhere. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"at the heart of west-end"
very friendly staff, clean hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The best part of this hotel is location and price. The Central West End boasts plenty of eateries, shops, and attractions that St. Louis is known for and the Comfort Inn is right in the mix of it all. Many attractions are within walking distance, and the rest (downtown, Tower Grove park, etcetera) require only a small cab fare. The cost of the hotel […] is perfect if you are traveling on a budget, as it beats almost every hotel in the vicinity. The downside is that the number of workers are small and the maintenance is lackluster. The amenities of a once posh independent boutique hotel are evident but upkeep is a problem as there are scuff marks, toilet paper holders missing, and scratches/stains on the carpets and halls leading to the rooms. The rooms are also on the small side, but certainly adequate/comfortable when compared to other hotel rooms in different cities. Some bathrooms only have a shower stall and that can be quite limiting if you have special needs, so that is something one should be aware of. Overall, the comfort and convenience were adequate to excellent and the (limited) staff was very friendly. I would recommend this hotel to anyone on a budget. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This is a very basic hotel. It's key attraction is it's location, being fairly close to the Washington University campus. The rooms are standard and mercifully truly smoke-free. With flat paint on the walls, they look very scuffed. The bathrooms are a very tight squeeze and for anyone of size, difficult to navigate. The morning complimentary breakfast […] is passable. The gym is sorely in need of maintenance and equipment. The staff however were exceptionally pleasant and helpful. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Another guest tried to get into my room at 5:45 a.m. He had a key so he tried to open my latched door, woke me up and scared me to death. "Great location contrary to price-Would stay again"
My experience.. Initial room was small and uncomfortable even by budget hotel standards. The bed was also broken. However, after a visit to the front desk and notifying Kristy, without hesitation, she accommodated us with a new room. Everything thereafter was trouble free and pleasant. All staff were very courteous and just plain nice. Best continental […] breakfast I've ever had at any hotel. The most surprising and pleasant part of the trip however was the proximity of the hotel to desirable areas. Within a single block there were plenty of indoor/outdoor bars, cafes, and restaurants ranging from casual to fine dining. Great environment for all adult ages. Another huge benefit were how close the St. Louis Zoo, Art, and History Museums were to the hotel. All within about a 10 minute drive or a 30 minute walk. Not many cabs driving around so find a taxi service's number and call ahead. I did so for St. Louis Cab Co. and could not have been any happier with the outstanding service from Ethel. Overall a great experience for a budget hotel and St. Louis as a whole. I would definitely stay again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
