The Ibis Gent Centrum Opera is OK value, but only OK. If I had it to do over, I might choose an independent hotel which includes breakfast. They wanted 14 euros for the buffet, which is absurd. We stayed at this hotel because it is close to the Ghent Opera, but it is also quite close to the historic center. It is about a 12 minute tram ride from the main train station; the tram stop is right outside the hotel. Small, but clean rooms with a 24 hour bar that serves snacks and sandwiches at all hours.

The Ibis Centrum Opera is located quite close to the historic old town - the main tourism, eatery, and bar district. Reaching the old town from the hotel is easy by both foot and transit. It is a 10 minute walk, or a 4 minute tram ride, with the stop directly outside the hotel. Considering the proximity, paying much more for a hotel directly in the […] old town seems unnecessary. The hotel itself is quite modern inside, with a 24/7 bar and snack/light meal menu. The rooms are very well kept, clean, and fresh, not to mention comfortable. The rooms are on the small side, but one must keep in mind that this is a downtown hotel, so don't expect a penthouse suite. Nevertheless, there is plenty of room for 2 people. Don't worry about other reviews which say that the room and washroom are incredibly small, there's still wiggle room! Staff members ranged from very cheerfull, to rather distant. It all depended on who was on duty, but they will still help you with any questions you may have. The price per night, given that this is an Ibis hotel is on the more expensive side, but most accommodations in Gent are traditionally more expensive than elsewhere. All in all, no major problems or complaints about the Ibis Centrum Opera, and I would definitely recommend it to friends and family. Read more

Good value, and only just outside the main central area. Rooms (and bathrooms) are very compact, but adequate for a short stay. Breakfast is pricy(€14), so go opposite to the delicious Bakery (Mon-Fri), or along to far end of Savaanstraat to an artisan bakery at weekends. Worth the walk. Right on a tram stop (so very easy to/from the station on Line […] 1, or into town - €1.20 each trip), and external sound insulation was very good, more noise comes from corridor and other room doors opening/closing unfortunately. PS Get the fantastic Museum Pass at €20 including 3 days trams/buses, as each museum is €4-€6 - so you get your money back very quickly. Read more

Good location and easy to find by car with own parking. 10 minute stroll to main old town but enough bars and eating places on the doorstep. Main tram stop at door. Really good reception, dining and bar area. Room more than OK for a short stay but has the tiniest bathrooms on the planet. Anyone over 6'3" or 20 stone will really struggle!!

Located conveniently right in front of a stop of the tramway line that takes you from and to St. Pieter's station to the center of Ghent. The room was very clean and modern but small amenities like combs, toothbrushes, shower cap,, etc were missing, so TYOTT - take your own toothbrush and toothpaste. The buffet breakfast offers a wide variety of breads, whole wheat and white, buns and Danish as well as great salami, ham, sausages, eggs, camembert and Gouda cheese, coffee, teas and juices, fresh fruits, cereal, bran, cornflakes, yoghurt, etc. If you are someone who just has a cup of coffee and one slice of toast in the morning, then the price of 14 Euro for breakfast will seem high, but if you are someone who likes a breakfast that sticks to the ribs, this will more than satisfy you, and in my opinion, good value for money. Furthermore, there are no coffeeshops or cafés near the hotel where you can have breakfast and down in the city center, that is a 10 minute walk away, shops open at 10:00 am or later so the hotel breakfast is very convenient. Ask for a room that away from the main road because late night revelers can be very noisy on Fridays and Saturdays. Read more

I have stayed in other hotels in Ghent. I would recommend this one for the following reasons: The room rate is very reasonable, The staff are friendly, It's clean, It's located in the centre of town and it is easy walking distance to most of the the sites of interest, restaurants and the shops. The rooms are small and the bathrooms are tiny (very cleverly […] designed) but, more than adequate for my needs. I had a very peaceful sleep every night I stayed there. A very quiet room - even the air con and plumbing only murmured quietly. I didn't sample the breakfast buffet, as the cost of 14 euros a day was prohibitive. There are plenty of great cafes nearby though - including a Mcdonalds! if that's your bag? Bring your own kettle as there are no coffee/tea making facilities in the rooms. Read more

The location was perfect, about 1 minute away from the opera house and easy to get to from the train station (just take Tram 1 to Justitiepalais, and the hotel is right there).
