"close to sights/shopping"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
We loved it - great location, staff and breakfast. Lovely, large second floor room.
"Nice Place"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
The Hotel was clean and comfortable. Wi-Fi was free in the lobby. It was a short walk from where the airport bus dropped us off and shopping/restaurants. Most of the tourist spots are a bit farther, but still very walkable.
"Good Value"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
The Ardmore is a clean, modern hotel that has power showers and staff that are friendly. The food served is well prepared and affordable. For the money it can't be beat, but if you want nice pillows, soft towels& cozy bedding then you should spend the extra money to get them. Those of us who prefer value over the little "extras" would love this hotel. The 15 minute bus ride into downtown wasn't bad unless you JUST missed the bus and have to wait another twenty minutes to get on. It is a great location for a first night into Dublin or your last because it is only 15 minutes to the airport!

"Close enough to everything, far enough for quiet"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 3, 2012
Very pleasant. We stayed directly in temple bar 3 nights before and wanted one night of quiet before we left. Receptionist was extremely helpful and even mailed a postcard for me so I wouldn't have to walk. Would stay again.

"Good Convenient Friendly"
The only qualm I had was the unavailability of free internet in room or lobby. Need to fix this issue.
"Great hotel but..."
Liked the hotel, however, the beds were terrible soft. Never thought beds could be so soft; Had to put my on the floor. Otherwise the hotel was nice.
"Wonderful location"
On the whole, we enjoyed our stay at the O'Callaghan Alexander very much. It was convenient to the city center and we walked almost everywhere. It was close to pubs, coffee shops, museums, parks etc. I have a few complaints. My first is that the mattress was too soft. However, my main complaint is that they charge a high price for a wi fi connection. […] Most hotels today provide this free as do most coffee shops. We did go to an excellent nearby coffee shop for the connection but would have liked to be able to use the internet in our hotel room without a high charge. Read more
"Decent Hotel, Good Price"
Stayed for 3 nights and thought that the hotel provided a clean comfortable room at a reasonable price. It is close to Trinity college and within walking distance (2-3 miles) of almost all the "tourist" sites in Dublin. The only downside was a fairly expensive breakfast that was just average. Overall though, if you have reasonable expectations this […] hotel will be be just perfect. Read more
"O'callagham Alexander, dublin"
Hotel in need of repair and upkeep, a/c unit not working causing room to be very warm, and if you opened the window you were then subject to both the noise and the smoke from the pub next door. Cold and non- caring staff.

"wish they had wifi in the lobby"
the hotel was very clean and we appreciated the complimentary newspaper available in the lobby. we were awakened on time and a cab arrived several minutes early, a plus. the staff were efficient, but don't expect warmth.
"Good location for most attractions"
It is a good hotel but not a real bargain. There is nothing really wrong with the hotel, just nothing especially memorable to make it stand out. Weekend rates are over inflated for the value delivered. It is a clean comfortable place to stay, Very close to national museums, Trinity College, Grafton street, St. Stephens Greene, etc...

"GREAT PLACE !!!!!!"
Front desk staff was great Need to find a place that serve vegan dishes and the young man at the desk was very kind to place a call and find a place for us I had problem with the inter-net service call the front desk at mid-night The staff did'nt stop until the problem was resolve, plus they credited my account LOVE the place and the service
"Challenge to find, but WORTH IT!!"
It was a bit confusing to find as there are three? hotels with almost the exact same name in that area. But it was worth finding it ! When issues came up such as a building alarm going off at 2am, a broken window latch and so forth, management was very quick to address the problems and do thier best to solve them for the good of the client. It is a […] beautiful hotel at a very good price! The front desk staff was friendly as they come. The location to shopping and the sights is next to perfect. Read more
"O'Callaghan Alexander Hotel - Dublin"
As you would expect from a 4 star hotel the O'Callaghan Alexander was very clean and tidy. The decor was also very nice. Our hotel room had a good view of Dublin and the bed was a great size and very comfortable. Lots of amenities in the room, trouser press, iron, hairdryer etc but some of the furniture was a little rough around the edges. Staff were […] polite but not overly friendly. Didn't try the food or drink at the hotel as it was a little pricey - with a four euro charge on room service on top of the price of the product you wanted. The hotel was close to most tourist locations - Trinity College, Grafton Street, O'Connell street is also only a short walk away. Surrounding area was busy during the day with a good little pub just across the road from the hotel. Overall a good hotel. Read more
At this hotel I experienced a lovely, clean, very comfortable room, a very helpful and friendly staff, and a great location! My wake up call was on time so I could enjoy a delicious breakfast, and catch my hotel ordeded taxi that got me to my ferry at just the right time. Highly reccommended!
"A very decent place to stay"
My son and I stayed at the O'Callaghan Alexander for six nights in May to 2010. The hotel is very decent. The staff was courteous and helpful at all times. Just off the lobby are a bar and restaurant. They serve a buffet style Irish breakfast every day starting at 7:00 and food off the menu the rest of the day. The neighborhood is generally quiet […] except for a very popular pub (The Ginger Man) very near the front door. It is well located if you want to be near Trinity College, Merrion Square and/or St.Stephen's Green. This area appears to be the heart of modern Dublin and many buses run through it at the west end of Trinity Campus (the hotel is east of campus). Pearse Street train station is a short walk away and Heuston station can be reached fairly quickly via bus. Internet was around 12 Euros per night. They offered us 8 Euros since we were staying so many days. Wireless was problematic, but worked about half the time. We downloaded a little wireless survey tool on my son's MacBook Pro and it appears to me the problem is due to overlapping WAPs on the same channel. a wireless no-no. They have wired connections in the room, but that wouldn't help me with my iPad...fortunately I had 3G as well, but international 3G is VERY expensive. Hot water is dangerously hot. I think you could cook eggs with it...literally...be careful. The hot water faucet gets too hot to touch at the base. Overall, I would definitely stay there again under similar circumstances. "Great hotel for money!"
I wasnt expecting much of the Alexander because it was part of a package deal and only for a night, but it definitely exceeded my expectations. Staff were extra friendly and room was perfect. The lobby is nothing fancy and we didnt eat in restaurant, but otherwise great deal for low price. Location is right by the train station, coach bus station, and […] less than 5 minutes walking to main areas with shops with restaurants and pubs. Read more
"Expected more"
In general seem to be really nice hotel with spacious room and good breakfast. However, the air conditioning was really noisy (had to turn it off), TV system is a bit annoying and location could have been a bit closer to the city centre.
"Great area and close to every cultural venue."
The bathrooms need improvement. However, the main drawback for me was the lack of business center. You had to go accross to the Davenport and hope that no one was using the one computer they had. The O'Callaghan Stephen's Green was superior in every way.

"Great hotel"
Great hotel, great location.
"Hard and soft King Bed"
One side of the bed was super soft and the other half was very firm.
"Great room for the money"
Comfortable beds and very nicely decorated. The location is a bit far from most things.
"Ordinary hotel"
3 Star.

"A good hotel"
This was my first trip to Ireland, so I booked this hotel based on my own research. LOCATION: I give the location of this hotel 5 out of 5 stars. The only time my fiance and I had to take a cab was to get to Heuston Train Station (and if we hadn't had our luggage with us, we probably would've walked there, too). We were EASILY able to walk EVERYWHERE […] from this hotel, AND it was in a very nice, quiet neighborhood. It is also just one block from where the airport bus drops off. CLEANLINESS: I am VERY finicky when it comes to hotel rooms, so I'd give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars. For what we were paying, I thought it could've been a bit nicer, however, that might just be because I didn't realize Dublin is so expensive. STAFF/HOSPITALITY: The hotel staff was super nice and very helpful. They made us reservations for a day tour and helped us plan our trip/itinerary to Kilkenny. I would give the staff a 4.5 out of 5 stars. In conclusion, I give this hotel a 4 out of 5 and would stay there again. Read more
"great location great price"
great, clean hotel. the restaurant has surprisingly good food. my only gripe is the staff. the housekeeping staff constantly entered my room despite the do not disturb sign.
"Very good hotel!"
Coming off the airplane and exhausted early in the morning from an overnight flight, we were able to check in early and go immediately to our hotel room which was quiet, comfortable and clean! The bed especially was very comfortable! The location by Merrion Square was excellent and centrally located so we could walk to many sites of interest. The staff […] was courteous and helpful, but not overly friendly. There was also a very nice lobby bar in the hotel! On the down side, the breakfast was very expensive and not included with the price of the room. I would recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Dublin and would stay there again on a return visit. "Excellent Hotel!"
We stayed at the Alexander after returning from a weeks holiday abroad. We checked in well before check-in time but were dealt with in a friendly and courteous manner by the receptionist and given our room immediately. The room was comfortable and spotlessly clean. We had a lovely breakfast on both mornings and the hotel kept our bags while I attended […] a meeting. Breakfast was extra but well worth the money as it kept us going for most of the day. I would definitely recommend this hotel highly. There is a bar next door also with a really friendly barman! Very convenient to shopping areas, Galleries, Museums and Trinity College. And Taxi rank right outside the door! 5 Stars! Read more
"O'Callaghan Alexander in Ireland - nice hotel"
It is not far away from City Center. The transportation is also very convenient. In addition, It is clean and the service provided by the hotel is excellent. I will choose Alexander again for my next trip to Ireland.
"Nice and friendly stay"
Very nice hotel with helpful staff. Mattresses a bit to soft for me. Close to town center and main attractions. There is a pub next to the hotel-Ginger Man. Go there for a drink. Good place.
"O'Callaghan Alexander"
Hotel very convenient to Grafton Street and only a short stroll from some traditional pubs in Merrion Row like Doheny & Nesbitts & Toner's. Would use again when staying in town.
"O'Callaghan Hotels in Dublin"
We were transfered to the O'Callaghan Davenport Hotel (over the road) as the Alexander was not opening for Christmas. We have stayed in both hotels. Everything about our stay was perfect, welcoming friendly staff, clean and smart hotel, good service at breakfast and in bar. We will be back again soon!
"Good apart from aging/water damaged bathroom"
This hotel in the main exceeded my expectations. The only, but important issue being the "wood" in the bathroom had peeled away and looked pretty horrible around the door and bath. I have to say I would stay again and would hope that this was a one off...the staff were great, very friendly.

"Alexander Hotel Merrion Square Dublin"
We had a great time, great location, lovely pub and restaurant next door, hotel had homely feel, very comfortable rooms and bed-bar and food was excellent. All in all couldnt be more positive and will be back.
"Great hotel!"
Nice price, at 1min of Trinity College & Merrion Square. It could be even nicer if it would be some other places (restaurants, pubs) around it, but of course that's not hotel's fault! Really nice, i would repeat.
"O´Callaghan Alexander"
Expensive breakfast, but there is a Subland-and a Café Sol-shop nearby. No free internet-access.
"The O'Callaghan Alexander, for the right price."
Great location, can walk to everyhting from bars, restaurants, Trinity College, shopping, museums, even the Guinness tour was only an easy 40 min walk (a great & safe way to see more of the city). I had to call staff to see how much a cab would be from airport (30 min ride, 25euros), and they saved me cash by suggesting to take the shuttle bus for 12 […] euros which dropped us off around the corner at merrion square, easy to find hotel from there. Hotel nice and clean, staff good.......morning breakfast was okay.....better local food within walking distance everywhere. In regards to the room, it sounds petty, but considering the immaculate condition of the rest of the room (updated, modern, clean), I wish the hotel chain would hire someone to scrape the icky moldy silicone caulking off the shower/tub and redo it. It makes the whole bathroom stinky. I wouldnt bathe there, only shower. If I had paid full price I would have asked to be switched to a different room or get a deal. But considering the great deal I got online, it was tolerable. And it might have just been my room, who knows. Overall great, safe location if you like exploring on foot! Read more
"Nice hotel, good neighborhood"
This hotel was clean and modern, and quite comfortable. Only a 10 minute walk from Grafton Street shops and 15 minutes to Temple Bar pubs. Nothing special in terms of design or luxury and the fitness centre was lacking in key equipment. However, if you're used to mid-range North American hotels, you won't be disappointed.
"Alexander Hotel at Merrion square"
Not the most central hotel, but definitely not off the beaten track. Very good service and hospitality, clean and quite surroundings (top floor). Had some difficulties with WiFi connections and the actual up/down speed capability is somewhat low compared to what was expected. Can recommend the hotel in general.
