Room was not spacious, but comfortable. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was good and 5th floor lounge was also comfortable. Very close to main train station and Hop on Hop off bus. We would definitely stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wonderful hotel and staff!!!"
I would highly recommend the Hotel Columbia to anyone traveling to Rome. The staff was very accommodating. Spoke English. "These ladies deserve a raise!"
Although this hotel isn't in the historic district, the location worked perfectly for us as it's still central to all of the sights as well as two blocks from the train station for daytrips/airport. There were also numerous good and reasonably priced restaurants in the immediate area - after walking all day every day, we didn't want a hike to dinner. […] The highlight of this hotel however are the outstanding employees, particularly the wonderful two blonde German ladies at the front desk (didn't get their names!)and the blonde Italian lady at breakfast - all couldn't be nicer or more helpful, which is what we needed on our eight night first trip to Rome. You could probably pay less for a nicer/larger room, but my piece of mind needed to know there was someone available for guidance and I more than received it - thank you. The roof terrace was great! "Close to Termini But Quiet"
Although this hotel was only about a five minute walk from Termini Station, and located in a busy neighborhood, we found it to be surprisingly quiet at night. The general condition of the hotel and the room was above what you would expect for the price point. Friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast buffet. "Convenient location, wonderful staff, comfortable"
Just returned from a weeks stay in Rome at the Columbia Hotel. The hotel staff is tops in my book. Their friendliness and assistance made the trip and time around Rome easy. The hotel is in a very convenient location to the heart of the city and allows walking to most all Rome sites. Very close to train station and metro as well. The outside rooftop […] breakfast is fabulous! Staff went beyond my wildest dreams to make our visit wonderful. Our room was perfect! Worth asking for a room away from the street side of the hotel to ease in street noise. Our room had a small balcony! Great restaurants right by the hotel and others just short walks away. The staff made our stay comfortable- from reception to breakfast at dining. They recommended good restaurants in the neighborhood. This hotel provided everything we were looking for as an overnight stop-over near the train station. The desk clerk also gave us useful tips for the evening we had available to walk around Rome.Genuine Expedia guest review
Stayed for a week in February. Close to Termini. Breakfast is good (but the same every day). Very clean. Room was relatively large (European hotels have super small rooms!) "Wonderful small hotel with great staff and locatio"
On recent first time trip to Rome my husband & I stayed 3 nights (based on reviews by others). Very glad we did. If we could rank the Hotel Columbia higher than 5, we would! The desk staff to a person were helpful, knowlegeable, and in a word, delightful . .. darling rooms with the most beautiful breakfast room imaginable: rooftop tables, inside and outdoors, with great views! We will definitely recommend it to our friends and will stay there again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Cozy & close to transportation"
The room was very small, but comfortable. Just make sure that when you leave your room and you give the front desk your key and someone is still in the room, TELL THEM someone is still in the room!!! In Rome, the lights automatically turn out when you leave your hotel !!! The breakfast is very satisfying: pastries, rolls, boiled eggs, yogurt, cheese, […] lunch meat, fruit, cereal, juice and coffee. They are close to the Termini Station and Metro. "A great staff made it a great visit to Rome"
You have to look beyond the exterior for the value of this hotel. Like many hotels in the tourist areas of Italy, they have limited space but make the best of it with a very pleasant helpful staff and strategic use of resources. Although close to Rome Termini (which we walked from in the rain), there is no continuous sidewalk convenient to roller suitcases; […] still with 2 suitcases each and a carry on, it was not impossible to walk the 3-4 blocks. The breakfast provided was well above average and a great start to every day. We were able to easily walk to many of the tourist sites (Forum, Colliseum, Pantheon, Trevi fountain , but also take the nearby subway to further destinations (Vatican, Villa Borghese). Also, I must commend the staff who were so helpful when I realized after relocating to Firenze that I had left our passports in the safe in our room. A quick trip on the "fast train" to pick up my contents which the staff had ready and waiting for me, inventoried and signed by two staff members who retrieved the contents, allowed this gaff of mine to be a minimal disruption. I can't remember the names of the two ladies who were so greatly helpful, but I will be eternally grateful Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient to Termini train station."
We booked this overpriced hotel through Expedia based on convenience to the Termini train station. We were returning to Rome, having stayed in Tuscany for a week, to catch a flight out the next morning and needed a place to stay near the train station. The guy at the front desk got testy when we would not let him keep our passports openly stacked with […] others. Instead, we gave him copies. He did not like that but accepted them. We never let ANYONE keep our passports and certainly not where anyone could walk by and grab them. Our room was hot, the AC only blew air, and was too noisy (on a busy city street) to open the window. The mattress was very hard as well, so we did not sleep well. Unlike other hotels, you could not take your own wine up to the terrace to watch the sunset but had to buy theirs instead. We were not told until after the fact that guests must buy the hotel's wine and beer. We would have been ok with that but there was no one there to sell it to us! We would not return to this hotel nor recommend it since there are many hotels near the train station from which to choose. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Very clean and close to train station. A bit of a walk from most of the sites we wanted to see- the biggest negative. Hotel staff was nice and we got upgraded to a queen bed.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location - convenient to everywhere!"
Outstanding! Verena at the front desk in the afternoon/evening was the most helpful even though she is relatively new to the hotel staff. Love the location. While an older hotel, the rooms were well appointed, plenty of space and very clean. The hotel has an outside terrace on the 5th floor that is nice for sitting with a drink at the end of the day […] or eating breakfast in the morning. Everything was very good. Only improvement I would recommend is upgrading the internet access system. Had intermittent disconnects but not a show stopper. Great location as we walk across Rome to all the sites you would want to see. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good value for the money"
Great location, very friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast (no thrills but good variety and you can't beat the price tag!). Hotel staff was very accomodating and actually talk to each other! The only issue I had with the hotel is the bed as the mattress was very firm. So if you don't like firm mattresses, you may not be comfortable. "Good location, clean, comfortable, helpful staff"
Room was small but adequate. Everything about the hotel is dated; however, spotlessly clean. AC worked well, breakfast was very good. "Don't stay here"
I'll start with the good. 1. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. 2. The location is very close to Termini station so it's very convenient. Now for the bad. I've stayed in my fair share of old hotels but the walls in this one were something special. You could hear everytime anyone on the floor used the bathroom. I'm not just talking about […] the muffled sound of a flush through the wall. I'm talking about it sounding as if they are in the room with you. This of course meant that every neighbor's conversation was clear as a bell too. A good night's sleep was simply not possible as we didn't have ear plugs. The price was not in line with the quality of the hotel at all. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Star Hotel down the street. It was cheaper and far better. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Easy to find and walk to from train station. Friendly and helpful staff. Helped us with our tours while in Rome. Excellent room, plenty of space. Luscious linens!! and pillows. Room stayed cool even though it was unseasonably HOT. Breakfast was lovely each morning on their 5th floor terrace. We cannot speak highly enough of the service and assistance […] from the staff. There are also many restaurants within walking distance. And a pharmacy. The location was close enough for us to walk to Trevi fountain, Colosseum, and other beautiful sites. "Overall, a lovely old hotel"
Nice lobby and terrace (for the free breakfast). Very disappointed with the two little twin beds and the ragged, dirty bedspreads. "Comfortable with a Great Breakfast"
The breakfast was the best of all 3 weeks I spent in Italy. The staff is very nice. The rooms were small, but it is pretty typical for Rome and the other amenities made up for it. The ladies who serve coffee during breakfast are so kind and accommodating!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Don't be put off by street (google) views of this hotel. Inside, you'll find clean, modern tastefully decorated rooms and a cool elevator. The street on which it's located is very quiet considering how close it is to the Rome Termini. We were a group of seven with three rooms and two different check-out dates. This was all sorted out with aplomb by […] Samir and his service was reflected by all other staff we dealt with. The weather was unseasonably cool during our visit so we didn't test the a/c, but it's modern and should be fully up to the task. We paid about $215 for our 3rd floor room with an outlook onto a patio. A nice touch is the choice of pillows. On the 5th floor is a small lounge with a patio where breakfast is served. The variety and quality of the breakfast far exceeded our expectations. Negatives? The shower enclosure was a bit small and like any small hotel, a loutish neighbor could be annoying, though we had no problems. All in all, and excellent value and highly recommended. "Wonderful memories of Rome"
We totally enjoyed our trip to Rome, and we were especially pleased with the Hotel Columbia and its wonderful and efficient staff, very accommodating. And they have pleasant smiles and a nice greeting when they see you. The free breakfast buffet was a great way to start our mornings. I am a ‘foodie’ by nature and aside from seeing all the beautiful […] history and art that is Rome, the food was a natural draw. And if your stay allows you a few days at the Columbia, the friendly staff get to know your preferences for coffee, decafe, tea, etc. The buffet selection was decent enough, and it kept my hunger at bay for a good number of hours. There are enough selections, but no fresh fruit; although they have a fruit cocktail. I do not eat pork, but for those that do, I think they offer Prosciutto. And the eggs are hard boiled. Breakfast is served upstairs on the 5th floor. And on nice day the terrace doors are open and it’s extremely lovely to sit outside and eat your breakfast amidst pretty surroundings. The hotel room was clean and we found the bed, mattress, and pillows decent. I think the one thing to remember is that at home, we get to choose our own furniture and bedding selections. When we travel, and especially outside of our own country, it is tough enough to find accommodations that can practically match what we have at home. Overall, for our stay in Rome, we liked the Hotel Columbia very much. Plus, it was also a short walk to the train station. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location, great place"
First, the hotel staff upgraded us to a larger room. Concierge Anke, when realizing we would be in Rome for only a short time, assessed our priorities and mapped out a route that would maximise our visit. She added some sites that we would have been sorry to miss. Breakfasts at the hotel were delightful. The breakfast staff (we didn't get her name) […] set our table, provided coffee service at the table, and replenished coffee when needed. "a hotel with heart"
We had a room on the 2nd floor. You could hear water running behind the bathroom wall. I suppose they know about this because they have thick terry cloth shower curtains. With the shower curtains closed and the bathroom door closed, the noise was not a problem. The room was clean and made up every day. The staff was amazing. It was our birthdays so […] the management sent up a bottle of Riesling on the house! The front desk person also recommended the best place for pizza and pasta in the less touristy area of trastavere. The Wi-Fi didn't work for one day but they called multiple people in to try to fix it. It was working the next morning. Our safe wasn't working but they offered to let us use a manual safe and fixed the electronic one in the room the next day. "a wonderful place to stay"
The staff was courteous and helpful. They called taxis, arranged my internet connection, provided an exceptionally pleasant breakfast in really pleasant surroundings and kept my room in spotless condition. My room was large (with two beds) with a high ceiling (and a very pretty chandelier!). The windows overlooked some Roman rooftops and could be opened. The […] bathroom had a large tub and as well as a bidet which even an American could figure out how to use! Another small, but very handy feature was the pull out clothes line which could easily be retracted when not in use. Plenty of clean towels every day added to a guest's comfort. "Great location, great experience"
7-10 minute easy walk from Termini train station. We were allowed to check in early. Nice room, first floor all the way in the back. Very nice rooftop where you have breakfast. Expect revolving front desk clerks, all were nice and helpful. This leads to a bit of what I consider a potential security issue. You ask for your key by room number and no one […] asks your name. "Good hotel for people in transit through Rome"
The hotel staff was very helpful and their breakfast terrace was very nice. The hotel's proximity to Rome's Termini station is a plus for visitors who need to travel out of Rome, although it is a bit far from the traditional tourist stops in the city. The rooms are very spacious (by Italian standards). Visitors should keep in mind that city taxes must […] be paid in cash upon departure. Not having the tax money in cash can result in unnecessary complications as you get ready to catch a train or a cab. In fairness, I believe this applies to every hotel in Rome.
