"Need major renovation - Staff very friendly"
The Hotel needs a major update. Rooms and bathrooms are very old and very old looking. It is a shame as the hotel building has a lot of potential. Wifi was terrible, took me an hour to get my emails and you can only have one device connected at a time. I still do not understand why it is so difficult to provide your guests with good wifi these days. You can walk to the train station which is very convenient and the area is very safe. The windows are probably not noise cancelling and you can hear the street noises. The hotel staff was super nice and very helpful which is what saved my stay.

Great location! Great service with great front desk - Verena, Daniel & Anke and also in the breakfast/bar! Thank you for remembering us from our stay two years ago! While an older hotel it is well maintained, great rooftop outdoor lounge. Internet is not very good but overall a 9 out of 10! Will stay again next time we are in Rome.

It's close to the train station but walking from there to the hotel we felt a little uncomfortable. The employees are very nice and internet is average at best. We could only use one device at a time which was crummy. We loved a nearby restaurant called "Alesio's" and it was SO good.

"Charming, small hotel in Rome"
Hotel Columbia is a small (45 rooms) hotel located between Termini Station and St Maria Maggore church, near many restaurants. While not a luxury hotel, it was a very charming experience. It runs more like a B& B. 4 stories of rooms, the 5th story is the breakfast/ conversation room. A rooftop terrace was a pleasant surprise. We had breakfast daily as well as an afternoon glass of wine. The rooms are very clean and extremely spacious. The bathroom tub was a little dated. The best part of the entire experience was the hotel staff. I have never had such wonderful service from the check in/ front desk to the chamber maid to the wonderful ladies putting together breakfast and evening wine. The downside: WiFi service had several interruptions each time we used it and the aforementioned tub. Overall throughly enjoyed our stay.

"A nice comfortable stay at Hotel Columbia"
The hotel is excellent but the bathrooms could use a refresh, especially the shower. It has a bidet if you need to freshen up too..... Breakfast which is included is nice but overall very sweet, which was fine for me but my wife prefers savory. Would return again but might try a different area if I was in Rome again. Very convenient to Termini

I would highly recommend the Hotel Columbia to anyone traveling to Rome. The staff was very accommodating. Spoke English. Gave perfect directions to the Metro & Termini station and other areas we asked about. Great recommendations for restaurants in the area. Allessio was our favorite. Rooftop breakfast was an added bonus every morning. Rooms were great and clean. Don't hesitate in booking this hotel. Wonderful!!!!

What a great find! The Hotel Columbia is a true gem in a great location with a wonderful staff. The room was gorgeous and comfortable (we were upgraded) and the rooftop bar and breakfast area was outstanding. The staff went out of its was to be accommodating even walking us out the door and pointing us to restaurants and attractions. For the cost it absolutely cannot be beat. Even its keys are beautifully presented, attached to fabric tassels.

"These ladies deserve a raise!"
Although this hotel isn't in the historic district, the location worked perfectly for us as it's still central to all of the sights as well as two blocks from the train station for daytrips/airport. There were also numerous good and reasonably priced restaurants in the immediate area - after walking all day every day, we didn't want a hike to dinner. The highlight of this hotel however are the outstanding employees, particularly the wonderful two blonde German ladies at the front desk (didn't get their names!)and the blonde Italian lady at breakfast - all couldn't be nicer or more helpful, which is what we needed on our eight night first trip to Rome. You could probably pay less for a nicer/larger room, but my piece of mind needed to know there was someone available for guidance and I more than received it - thank you. The roof terrace was great!

"Close to Termini But Quiet"
Although this hotel was only about a five minute walk from Termini Station, and located in a busy neighborhood, we found it to be surprisingly quiet at night. The general condition of the hotel and the room was above what you would expect for the price point. Friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast buffet. You can roll out of bed and you'd almost be at the doorstep of the National Museum of Rome/Baths of Diocletian.

"Convenient location, wonderful staff, comfortable"
Just returned from a weeks stay in Rome at the Columbia Hotel. The hotel staff is tops in my book. Their friendliness and assistance made the trip and time around Rome easy. The hotel is in a very convenient location to the heart of the city and allows walking to most all Rome sites. Very close to train station and metro as well. The outside rooftop breakfast is fabulous! Staff went beyond my wildest dreams to make our visit wonderful. Our room was perfect! Worth asking for a room away from the street side of the hotel to ease in street noise. Our room had a small balcony! Great restaurants right by the hotel and others just short walks away. Will definitely come to the Columbia Hotel again!

"Wonderful small hotel with great staff and locatio"
On recent first time trip to Rome my husband & I stayed 3 nights (based on reviews by others). Very glad we did. Front desk staff gracious, room spotless with glass chandelier sparkling over the bed, patio closed but inside seating was equally pretty with buffet enough to last all day! "Cozy & close to transportation"
The room was very small, but comfortable. Just make sure that when you leave your room and you give the front desk your key and someone is still in the room, TELL THEM someone is still in the room!!! In Rome, the lights automatically turn out when you leave your hotel !!! The breakfast is very satisfying: pastries, rolls, boiled eggs, yogurt, cheese, lunch meat, fruit, cereal, juice and coffee. They are close to the Termini Station and Metro. The Red Hop On/Hop Off Bus is great for tour of the city and to determine your own walking itinerary.

"A great staff made it a great visit to Rome"
You have to look beyond the exterior for the value of this hotel. Like many hotels in the tourist areas of Italy, they have limited space but make the best of it with a very pleasant helpful staff and strategic use of resources. Although close to Rome Termini (which we walked from in the rain), there is no continuous sidewalk convenient to roller suitcases; still with 2 suitcases each and a carry on, it was not impossible to walk the 3-4 blocks. The breakfast provided was well above average and a great start to every day. We were able to easily walk to many of the tourist sites (Forum, Colliseum, Pantheon, Trevi fountain , but also take the nearby subway to further destinations (Vatican, Villa Borghese). Also, I must commend the staff who were so helpful when I realized after relocating to Firenze that I had left our passports in the safe in our room. A quick trip on the "fast train" to pick up my contents which the staff had ready and waiting for me, inventoried and signed by two staff members who retrieved the contents, allowed this gaff of mine to be a minimal disruption. I can't remember the names of the two ladies who were so greatly helpful, but I will be eternally grateful

"Convenient to Termini train station."
We booked this overpriced hotel through Expedia based on convenience to the Termini train station. We were returning to Rome, having stayed in Tuscany for a week, to catch a flight out the next morning and needed a place to stay near the train station. The guy at the front desk got testy when we would not let him keep our passports openly stacked with others. Instead, we gave him copies. He did not like that but accepted them. We never let ANYONE keep our passports and certainly not where anyone could walk by and grab them. Our room was hot, the AC only blew air, and was too noisy (on a busy city street) to open the window. The mattress was very hard as well, so we did not sleep well. Unlike other hotels, you could not take your own wine up to the terrace to watch the sunset but had to buy theirs instead. We were not told until after the fact that guests must buy the hotel's wine and beer. We would have been ok with that but there was no one there to sell it to us! We would not return to this hotel nor recommend it since there are many hotels near the train station from which to choose.

"Great location - convenient to everywhere!"
Outstanding! Verena at the front desk in the afternoon/evening was the most helpful even though she is relatively new to the hotel staff. Love the location. While an older hotel, the rooms were well appointed, plenty of space and very clean. The hotel has an outside terrace on the 5th floor that is nice for sitting with a drink at the end of the day or eating breakfast in the morning. Everything was very good. Only improvement I would recommend is upgrading the internet access system. Had intermittent disconnects but not a show stopper. Great location as we walk across Rome to all the sites you would want to see.

"Good value for the money"
Great location, very friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast (no thrills but good variety and you can't beat the price tag!). Hotel staff was very accomodating and actually talk to each other! The only issue I had with the hotel is the bed as the mattress was very firm. So if you don't like firm mattresses, you may not be comfortable. "Don't stay here"
I'll start with the good. 1. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. 2. The location is very close to Termini station so it's very convenient. Now for the bad. I've stayed in my fair share of old hotels but the walls in this one were something special. You could hear everytime anyone on the floor used the bathroom. I'm not just talking about the muffled sound of a flush through the wall. I'm talking about it sounding as if they are in the room with you. This of course meant that every neighbor's conversation was clear as a bell too. A good night's sleep was simply not possible as we didn't have ear plugs. The price was not in line with the quality of the hotel at all. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Star Hotel down the street. It was cheaper and far better.

There are also many restaurants within walking distance. And a pharmacy. The location was close enough for us to walk to Trevi fountain, Colosseum, and other beautiful sites.
