I returned to stay at the Campanile because it is affordable and offers easy access to the Metro. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was luxurious for the price. The staff were friendly and very accomodating in answering my questions.

Right across train station and bus stop. Staff was 50/50 depending on who was at the front desk. Most of them were rude one even yelled at my mother in front of other guest to get off the elevator. This is not a good hotel for a family. They do not have triple rooms, instead there's a pull out from under the bed that lays against the ground and then you can not get out of of bed without stepping on each other. We complained and they just said, " sorry..." The carpets were absolutely filthy, stains and dirt. The hotel is located right at the Metro stop so that was very convient. I had required a three person room, which included one queen size bed, and a cot that slide under the queen bed. Hotel Campanile is disgusting. No AC, the carpet is dirty, the hallways and rooms are stinky. It was very uncomfortable, easy accessible by metro and bus but the surrounding neighborhood is not safe. Peolple urinate in every corner near the McDonald.

They take the "Camp" in Campanile seriously. The rooms are very small. We had 2 rooms with 4 people in each. When we first walked into the room I didn't see the fourth bed - it's a trundle under one of the other beds. There is a restaurant in the building but we didn't use it since there was a McDonalds and grocery store right next door. Literally step out the hotel door turn to your right and you are at McDonalds which is also an entrance to a shopping center with a grocery, other eateries and stores. The hotel is located at the Gallieni Metro stop (this is also a bus stop for several lines). Once you exit the Metro you will be under an overpass with stairs on the left side go up the stairs and you are at the hotel. The rooms are bigger by Paris standards and nice for the price. The hotel is right on the metro so getting into see the sights is easy. I can understand why reviews are so divided - a case can be made for rating it or slating it. First, the good. It's close to a metro station - directly above one (Gallieni). The nearest entrance to the Metro to the hotel's front door is perhaps 20 feet away. It occupies the upper floors of a shopping centre, so you have a supermarket and various chain […] stores right on your doorstep too. Although quite a few reviews criticise the staff, I found the four or five I dealt with uniformly helpful. Now, the bad. The area it's in is a total dump. Think London's Elephant & Castle but more dilapidated and with even more discarded garbage. A raised highway surrounds the hotel on both sides - you're staying in the central reservation of a motorway. Perhaps because of this, the hotel windows don't open. In my room, damp had got into the glazing which meant that you couldn't actually see out - absolutely no view and very little natural light. While my room was comfortable it looked like it hadn't been decorated in years - scuff marks on the walls, stains on the lampshades, dirty carpet. I don't massively mind slumming it - but if you've got any class you may well hate this place! Perhaps to sum up - if it's cheap at your time of booking, you're just looking for somewhere easy to get to and from, and you don't expect to spend much time in the room then you may find it ok. If none of those apply, it won't. And if you book it for your honeymoon, better expect a prompt divorce! Read more

Clean and extremely close to metro station but was last stop on line 3 so not close to any attractions or city centre. Didn't feel safe in neighbourhood so quickly made our way from metro to hotel each evening. I arrived at the hotel at what appeared to be a busy time as I stood in reception for a while before someone served me, however when they did all went well and they spoke reasonably good English, which is great as my French is terrible! They explained the hotel policies and advised of the extra cost for breakfast and local taxes on hotel rooms, this […] had already been highlighted on the Expedia website at the time of booking. The room was fairly small and overlooked the local superstore neon sign! The walls had a textured finish and were painted in a mushroom colour, this gave the room a sort of gloomy feel, however it was spotlessly clean and overall well maintained. I tried the TV, there was a full selection of French channels! In this day and age of Satellites I would expect at least an English news channel. I didn't bother with the TV again, but in fairness I didn't go to Paris to watch TV! This might seem a odd point, but the room had only one rubbish bin, which was in the bathroom, I preferred it by the desk, and moved it there, however every day Housekeeping put it back in the bathroom! I don't need it in the bathroom, most rubbish is from discarding empty drinks containers or stuff I have finished reading! The free WiFi was temperamental, it worked most of the time but did keep dropping out. The buffet breakfast had a selection of cereals, cold meats and cheese, fruit and dairy, there was no hot food, which I was expecting at 9€. Read more

Great hotel, clean and room size is allright, we had a 3 bed room, it was a 2 bed room with a pull out bed, the 3rd person dropped out so pleanty of room for us 2 but still would have been ok for 3. The staff were friendly and all spoke english which was great, we were on floor 5 and the hallways can stink sometimes but the room was clean and stench […] free. One down side is that the window does not open and can get very stuffy inside, we stayed in oct/nov so the weather wasnt hot but would have been perfect if the iwndow openend! The location of this hotel is just brilliant, metro is literally right outside the hotel so very handy and easy to get to all the sights from there. There is a shopping mall right next to the hotel and a mcdonalds next door too whicn is open till late, comes in handy when you just cant be bothered to go venture for a resturant. The neighbourhood is not to bad, we didn't explore the area apart from what was directly around the hotel, we found the people to be very friendly and helpful, there were a few homeless people around but they were polite and again friendly and helpful. In 10 conscecutive weeks of travel in 20 European countries this is the worst we have encountered. Tiny rooms too smal for 2 people, paint missing from walls, spider webs hanging from ceiling, dirty carpets, sporadic and weak WIFI, windows do not open and the air-condition DOES NOT work. The rooms are a complete sweat-box...no ventilation and 27.5 C […] at 10 pm. Staff tried to enter our room, unnanounced, twice while were were present to spray for sewer smell. 10 meters outside the front door beggars and transients are at you immediately. How about corn freshly roasted from a shopping cart? A staff member told my wife not to go out alone. When we complained about the temperature of the room, and other things, the desk clerk said: "You should have left..why didn't you?" They told us a few times a technician was coming "tomorrow" to look try to get the air-conditioning system. There is no reason to ever stay at this hotel. I have photos if anyone wants to see them. The price for 24 hours of parking in the secured hotel private parking area which is in a multi storey car park was pretty good. we parked for 3 days and 30 Euros! perfect for paris. park up and take the subway. To find the car park you have to loop around the hotel, with it on your left, there are 3 entrances to the multi storey car park. take the one that says Galieni Campanile in the middle going up the ramp not down the ramp. and of this middle ramp stay on the right side and you will see a large garage door that says Hotel Campanile parking. otherwise the shopping centre is 30 euros per day. On the down side:- Small rooms that are only just big enough for the bed. Tired decor, windows that are dirty and fixed in the closed position, "air con" that isn't man enough to keep the room just right for the warmer blooded person. Sticky table that hadn't been cleaned since last occupant, towels that used to be white but are that old are now off […] white/grey. At breakfast time i couldn't get a decent cup of tea, and the one time i tried the bar at 10:00pm, it was closed. On the up side:- Very close to the metro, (it's outside the front door) Food was good and plentiful, staff were cheerful, and most spoke English. Very helpful at check out time with regards to holding baggage until pick up time. All in all, you get what you pay for. And this was a low cost budget holiday for the me, my wife and 3 kids.
