Still small enough to explore on foot, Playa del Carmen has a relaxed, yet cosmopolitan feel, with a variety of hotels, shops, and restaurants ranging from causal to upscale. European-style sunbathing is common on beaches. Playa is a popular jumping-off point for day trips to Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Tulum, and other peninsula attractions, and a passenger ferry makes frequent runs to Cozumel.see all hotels in Playa del Carmen
"Beautiful beaches, nice hotel and good food"
Staff and Hotel are nice. They need to take care of towels. Beds are small not enough for two people.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent locally flavored hotel"
Fantastic place to stay that retains some of the local Mexican flavor with very sweet, personable customer service. One night when our four year old daughter developed a painful ear ache an employee walked with us to a nearby all night pharmacy at 2:30am to get children's ibuprofen. On another instance, I asked our breakfast waiter where I could find […] a natural coconut (the hotel kept the onsite palm trees trimmed so none would fall on patrons). He was unsure but said he would find out. The next morning a tree ripened coconut sat in my daughter's chair with a face painted on it and her name printed above. Really too many instances of very sweet personal attention to be able to mention. Staying at this hotel was a really great experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Very nice beachfront hotel"
Overall, a very nice place to stay. The beach was great. Located next to the Cozumel ferry. All you can eat food was very tasty. Lots of fruits & veggies with excellent Mexican cooked food. Could use a few more hot vegetarian dishes (pretty meat heavy). Very nice Italian restaurant on the premesis. Only real complaint about the place is that the linens […] sometimes had stains on them. While I believe they were clean, they need to retire them if they get stained. Be aware the this is a family place, thus the entertainment is geared more toward families than couples. Also, a few general cautions about Mexico - never pay full price for gifts in the little stores - they expect to haggle & you should probably be paying less than half of the sticker price. Also, be very cautious about buying day trips or time shares at the airport - we got scammed but were able to get our money back Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent Family Week"
Our family of 6 adults had an excellent week at the Playacar Palace. We had no problems, the food was very good in the buffets, excellent in the specialty restaurants and overall service was excellent. The hotel credits were very useful, especially to upgrade to overpriced premium wines for dinner. House wines were very disappointing.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent honeymoon or couples getaway"
An absolutely fantastic honeymoon destination. Just got back from 6 nights stay in early June. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable in every situation. Dining at the Italian, the Asian, and the buffet were all great, no complaints. Lots of variety compared to other all-inclusives we've stayed. Its really nice having the town and […] the ferry for Cozumel right there at the resort so you can get out and see a bit more. I highly recommend snorkeling at the Cozumel Palace for a day trip. Using our credits on the spa was also a very rewarding experience. Our only criticism is the overuse of cheesy American music, especially during the day trying to get people active around the pool. We just want to relax, not hear outdated pop music pumping. A few more umbrellas out on the beach would also go a long ways. It was at times a bit competitive finding shade. All in all, highly recommended. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Look no further"
We had our wedding at Playacar last month. What a delightful place, and we are so glad we choose Playacar. Our guests had a fantastic time, the service was impeccable (Alma took great care of us with drinks in the little bar/club - she is awesome, and you have to see Victor, entertainer extraordinaire, and we cannot leave our Siskia [aka Dutch Girl] […] our concierge. she represents Playacar so well - what a class act). The wedding was so much fun. The food was great. We went over to the Cozumel Palace a few times to snorkel and have lunch. This is a must! Love that place too. We really like the Palace resorts, and our group was so thrilled that we are all going back next year. I cannot say enough great things about this resort, the people, the service, the rooms. wow. The hotel staff was polite and professional and friendly. The hotel, itself, is centrally located to the town. We loved the $1500 resort credit. You can get shuttles to other resorts and use their "all-inclusive" amenities.Genuine Expedia guest review
"It's OK. Best attribute is location"
It is a small property with limited food and activity options. We were not harrased about using points/signing up with their club until we asked about excursions. As with any vacation hotel, chairs by pool & beach are booked (towels on them) at 6 or 7 am. One main restaurant for breakfast, lunch & dinner, which by day 3 we were dreading to go back. […] We went to Explor to get our 2 teenage boys off the property. They were getting increasingly bored by day 3. Explor was a nice break and everyone enjoyed it. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

My wife and I had a great time! The food was good, the location was great. What puts this hotel over the top is how the staff goes the extra mile in accommodating your needs and requests. This is a great place to stay we will be back.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great for a Couple Looking for Relaxation"
Though quieter and smaller than many of the other resorts we've visited in the area, the food and service were both great. We enjoyed the easy access to Playa del Carmen, where restaurants, shops and bars abound. My husband and I went alone this time, and found the low-key atmosphere perfect. Given our week-long stay, we received $1500 in resort credits, […] and I used $300 (the maximum) for a wonderful spa experience. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Friendly Service, Perfect Location!"
We had an absolutely wonderful stay. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. There were plenty of servers at the pool and beach, so it was never long if you needed a drink or bottle of water. The food was very good, definately above average for an all-inclusive. The waitstaff was friendly and fun, several activities going on during […] day/evening that kept things entertaining. The beach was spectacular; clean and large area for swimming/sunning, and there was never a problem finding a chair (and when we were there the resort was at capacity.) If you are considering staying directly north of Playacar Palace (many smaller hotels/condos along this area) I would think twice unless you don't mind a tiny overcrowded beach area. The location of resort is absolutly perfect, it is literally a two minute walk to 5th Avenue (shopping, restaurants & action.) We had a fun time walking up 5th Avenue and then back to resort along the beach, where there are plenty of places to stop for a drink along the way. The spa was beautiful, easy to make an appointment once you arrive and we had a good experience there. The resort is the perfect size, big enough to have everything you want, but not massive where you have to walk a lot to get anywhere. Although it's not as new and modern as some places we have stayed, we were soon able to overlook that because of the great service, beach/pool area, food, location & size of resort. We will stay here again for sure! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel but our kids were bored"
There were so many great things to enjoy at this hotel. The beach is number one, clean soft sand and the water was amazing. The food at the hotel was good, especially the breakfast buffet. It was nice to sit outside and eat. The La Terraza restaurant had good food however the wait time for the main dish took longer than expected. It would be nice if […] there were more restaurant choices at this hotel. We brought our 10 and 13 yr olds and they seemed bored with the hotel. The pool was small and there weren't much activities for them other than ping pong and bingo by the pool. It would be nice if the kids club could accommodate older children or if there were a teen club. I'm not sure we can convince our kids to come back to this hotel next year but my husband and I loved it. Maybe we will make it a couples trip sometime. We loved the big balconies and the rooms were big also! Room service was also quick and yummy, although the pizza tasted below average so we ordered Dominoes. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel on Riviera Maya"
Playacar Palace is a very nice quiet place with a beautiful beach, where you can walk for miles. The food is good and fresh, loved all 3 restaurants. No problems with extra towels, beach and pool not too crowded. Staff expects tips, so be prepared to have dollar bills at hand for better service. However did not have to give tips at the spa. The hotel […] credits are tricky, you have to pay 11% taxes and service fees for all activities reserved for credits. For using all $1500 of our credits credits we ended up paying $180 in fees. For the $1500 we did trips to Chichen Itza for 3, Dolphin Discovery for 3, $300 spa, a Tequila gift and a spa facial cream gift. The hotel is 2 minutes away from the lovely Playa del Carmen, very entertaining little town. Overall we liked our stay here better than our Cancun stay in the Dreams hotel 4 years ago. "Great smaller resort."
This was the third trip to Playa in the past 10 years for my wife and I. It was our first stay at Playacar Palace. We chose it because it is smaller than most other all inclusive resorts. We read many reviews where this was a recurring positive theme. It is very easy to go from room to pool or beach due to the smaller scale of the resort. The pool side […] recliners need to be upgraded they are uncomfortable. The pool side music list needs to be improved, a lot of techno which made no sense as there are not many 20 somethings staying there. Despite these negatives I would return and am planning on staying at other Palace resorts. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice all-inclusive close to busy town"
Great food and drink. We had a "resort view" room but could see the ocean with a nice balcony. Our room was great but they seem to have a lot of not so great rooms too - looking into the neighboring condos, right on the beach with no privacy and smokers nearby. So check the selection. "Great all-inclusive NewYear's week!"
We (two couples in their 60s) chose Playacar Palace for a combination of its high rating as an all inclusive (including above average food), its being walking distance into town, and its price value. it met our expectations, with a few unecpected pluses and a couple of minuses. The pluses: EXCELLENT service thanks to very friendly staff always going […] out of their way to remember your favorite drink The minuses: noisy air conditioner outside balcony of first room, aging door locks that would not open with acard key that had to be replaced. "Resort credits are a total rip-off"
The hotel was nice, the staff like the bartenders and waiters gave us exceptional service all throughout the entire week. We went on a tour to Chichen Itza, which I would not recommend to my worst enemy. We spent 3 hours each way on the bus, spent 2 hours at a terrible buffet restaurant/market and only spent 1.5 hours at Chichen Itza itself. We complained […] to the hotel staff and they said there was nothing they could do. We wanted our resort credits refunded and to not have to pay the tax.. we ended up with a complete waste of an entire day, wasting our credits, but finally a manager told us we didnt have to pay the tax. There were some other crappy things we had to sit through and deal with. I felt like we spent more time inside complaining or trying to sort something out. Even though the hotel and most of the staff were great, I wouldnt recommend it to anybody. Choose somewhere else or Cancun. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Very nice place to stay. It is true, the food and service was outstanding. Staff was friendly and very helpful. The resort only has 200 rooms so you never had to wait for anything and no reservations or extra fees in the restaurants. Beach and pool chairs were always available and plenty of people to bring you whatever you needed. It was very close […] to shopping and a short, safe walk to plenty of night life if that is what you are looking for. I was glad we chose this resort. "Best service ever!"
The service was excellent. The food was prepared so well and there was a large variety of healthy foods available each day. The Playacar Palace is within walking distance of 5th Ave. and the ferry to Cozumel, which saved us time and money. "Exceptional service, great location, mediocre food, great deal"
We went to Playacar Palace for our honeymoon. We had the honeymoon suite, and I can't imagine a more luxurious room in the hotel. It was spacious, two rooms, with a terrific view from the large balcony. I thought the bed was a little hard, but it was tolerable. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. There isn't a single thing we needed that we […] didn't get from them. I can't say enough about how wonderful they all were, without exception. The location is unbeatable, on a beautiful beach, right next to the ferry to Cozumel and in the heart of tourist shopping. The food is the only reason I don't give the hotel a perfect score. It was mediocre, and lacking in flavor. We ended up searching for restaurants later in our stay and found some good ones right near the hotel. But in all, we loved our stay and would definitely consider returning! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"nice but little bit too sterile"
I loved this hotel, the people were extremely friendly. If I searched for something to be dissatisfied about I would only say that I was promised a king size bed and we were given 2 queens.(that was all that was left with the partial ocean view) Most nights my husband and I slept separate for comfort reasons.Other than that, service was awesome, and […] food pretty good.I like a little bit more excitement than what this location offered to me.After the wedding, for which we were required to stay here in order to attend, we moved to other end of 5th ave to stay at Grand Porto Real which was slightly less quality but was much more fun location! This was the most amazing place I've stayed. I felt as though I was a VIP (which I was not) from the moment I stepped onto the grounds. I don't think I ever saw a single employee without a smile on their face or willing to help. I'd never had a stay with an all inclusive package and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The staff worked hard to keep the place […] looking beautiful throughout the week. Staff also did a great job to make sure that guests were enjoying themselves by getting us involved in certain games and other activities. The rooms were in great condition and very comfortable. I appreciated the room service and other amenities that were included with our room. My only complaint about the rooms were that the balconies were a little small in some of the rooms. I rarely spent time on ours though because the pool and beach were so close. The food in the Italian restaurant was fantastic. I never ate in the Oriental restaurant. The food in the main buffet was good. I've had better, but I've also had much worse. It was really great when I ordered specifics at the grill though. The room service made food available at all times since the restaurant was closed during certain hours (noon to 12:30 at least). We took advantage of the Spa, golf, Tulum, and swimming with dolphin adventures and enjoyed all them. Great service everywhere we spent time. I highly recommend this location. "Great location and beautiful beach"
Playacar Palace is very nice and pretty well kept up. It's in an extremely great location and that's why we chose to stay there. Also, the $1500 resort credit was enticing, however, you are unable to really use much of the resort credits. All we were able to book was a couples massage, which was wonderful for $309, and was mostly paid for using the […] resort credit of $300 towards spa. Unable to book the couples dinner on the beach or upgrade our room using the resort credits. They claim they were at full capacity the entire time we were there, as other guests were told the same thing. We turned them down when asked if we wanted to tour their sister property for an additional $200 credit. After that it seemed there were no openings for anythitng else to be booked using the resort credits, so we quickly gave up. The food was good and the service by the staff was excellent. We sporadically received turndown service, which we didn't expect at all but it was nice when they did it. Overall, it was a nice stay, but we left not expecting to return again.
