We had an absolutely wonderful stay. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. There were plenty of servers at the pool and beach, so it was never long if you needed a drink or bottle of water. The food was very good, definately above average for an all-inclusive. The beach was spectacular; clean and large area for swimming/sunning, and there was never a problem finding a chair (and when we were there the resort was at capacity.) If you are considering staying directly north of Playacar Palace (many smaller hotels/condos along this area) I would think twice unless you don't mind a tiny overcrowded beach area. The location of resort is absolutly perfect, it is literally a two minute walk to 5th Avenue (shopping, restaurants & action.) We had a fun time walking up 5th Avenue and then back to resort along the beach, where there are plenty of places to stop for a drink along the way. The spa was beautiful, easy to make an appointment once you arrive and we had a good experience there. The resort is the perfect size, big enough to have everything you want, but not massive where you have to walk a lot to get anywhere. Although it's not as new and modern as some places we have stayed, we were soon able to overlook that because of the great service, beach/pool area, food, location & size of resort. There were so many great things to enjoy at this hotel. The beach is number one, clean soft sand and the water was amazing. The food at the hotel was good, especially the breakfast buffet. I'm not sure we can convince our kids to come back to this hotel next year but my husband and I loved it. Maybe we will make it a couples trip sometime. Playacar Palace is a very nice quiet place with a beautiful beach, where you can walk for miles. The food is good and fresh, loved all 3 restaurants. No problems with extra towels, beach and pool not too crowded. Staff expects tips, so be prepared to have dollar bills at hand for better service. However did not have to give tips at the spa. The hotel […] credits are tricky, you have to pay 11% taxes and service fees for all activities reserved for credits. For using all $1500 of our credits credits we ended up paying $180 in fees. For the $1500 we did trips to Chichen Itza for 3, Dolphin Discovery for 3, $300 spa, a Tequila gift and a spa facial cream gift. The hotel is 2 minutes away from the lovely Playa del Carmen, very entertaining little town. Overall we liked our stay here better than our Cancun stay in the Dreams hotel 4 years ago. Read more

This was the third trip to Playa in the past 10 years for my wife and I. It was our first stay at Playacar Palace. We chose it because it is smaller than most other all inclusive resorts. We read many reviews where this was a recurring positive theme. It is very easy to go from room to pool or beach due to the smaller scale of the resort. The pool side music list needs to be improved, a lot of techno which made no sense as there are not many 20 somethings staying there. The hotel was nice, the staff like the bartenders and waiters gave us exceptional service all throughout the entire week. We went on a tour to Chichen Itza, which I would not recommend to my worst enemy. We spent 3 hours each way on the bus, spent 2 hours at a terrible buffet restaurant/market and only spent 1.5 hours at Chichen Itza itself. We complained […] to the hotel staff and they said there was nothing they could do. We wanted our resort credits refunded and to not have to pay the tax.. we ended up with a complete waste of an entire day, wasting our credits, but finally a manager told us we didnt have to pay the tax. There were some other crappy things we had to sit through and deal with. I felt like we spent more time inside complaining or trying to sort something out. Playacar Palace is a great experience for everyone. The waiters/waitresses were very accommodating and prompt. The cleaning staff was very helpful, although we had to call to get washcloths one afternoon. The guest services set us up on three great tours of the area using the Resort Cash. Food was outstanding, especially at the Italian Restaurant.

Very nice place to stay. It is true, the food and service was outstanding. Staff was friendly and very helpful. The resort only has 200 rooms so you never had to wait for anything and no reservations or extra fees in the restaurants. Beach and pool chairs were always available and plenty of people to bring you whatever you needed. Tip: I would spend a few extra dollars and take a cab from the airport rather than arranged transportation. The service was excellent. The food was prepared so well and there was a large variety of healthy foods available each day. The only real problem was that they had over booked the hotel that week and my husband and I had to spend our entire 'babymoon' vacation on separate small beds.

The Playacar Palace is within walking distance of 5th Ave. and the ferry to Cozumel, which saved us time and money. We enjoy staying at the Palace chain because you have privileges at the other hotels. For instance, when in Cozumel, we ate at the Cozumel Palace and snorkeled there.

The food in the main buffet was good. I've had better, but I've also had much worse. It was really great when I ordered specifics at the grill though. The room service made food available at all times since the restaurant was closed during certain hours (noon to 12:30 at least). We loved the Playacar Palace. We stayed on the 5th floor and had an awesome view. I don't think I would do the conceirge level again. I actually thought we have rec'd better in room service in the past with a standard ocean view room. We only rec'd turn down service once during our week stay and we never rec'd a petit four which was suppose to be nightly. […] They have a great beach, a wonderful location next to the ferry and 5th ave. Playacar Palace is very nice and pretty well kept up. It's in an extremely great location and that's why we chose to stay there. Also, the $1500 resort credit was enticing, however, you are unable to really use much of the resort credits. All we were able to book was a couples massage, which was wonderful for $309, and was mostly paid for using the […] resort credit of $300 towards spa. Unable to book the couples dinner on the beach or upgrade our room using the resort credits. They claim they were at full capacity the entire time we were there, as other guests were told the same thing. We turned them down when asked if we wanted to tour their sister property for an additional $200 credit. After that it seemed there were no openings for anythitng else to be booked using the resort credits, so we quickly gave up. The food was good and the service by the staff was excellent. We sporadically received turndown service, which we didn't expect at all but it was nice when they did it. Overall, it was a nice stay, but we left not expecting to return again. There was a minor mix up. I had reserved a king size bed and it wasn't available. I dint want to use my resort cash to upgrade. We wanted to play golf and go to the spa with the $1500 credit. I am glad I kept to my plan. Those events were wonderful. The room had two double beds and that was the only negative. Beautiful view. Clean and comfortable

Nice small resort with great service, food and entertainment without all the thump thump at the pool. Water arobics, movie trivia at the pool and beach volleyball during the day. We were there the last week of June with our to kids aged 3 and 5. We paid about $450 CAN per night. I chose Playacar because it got some good reviews from families and has a good rank on trip Advisor. In the end I kept comparing it Azul Beach by Karisma, which we visited last year which is about the same price. PROs: - Really really clean. - Great […] beach, especially for the kids. There was a sand bar about 10-15 feet away which helped make the big waves less scary and the beach more interesting. - Not hard to find an umbrella or chair. - Unlimited rum, tequila, vodka, and whiskey in your room - Great size pool for younger kids and heated. CONS: - Staff was very polite, but they seemed a bit overworked. We did meet some genuinely nice staff people, well, maybe just three. They others were just doing their job, which is ok, but compared to Azul Beach, it can be much better. There was one waiter which we got twice in the Italian restaurant who was just trying too hard. - The kids club was very disappointing. Twice when we went there was no staff there. Maybe because there were not many kids. Again compared to Azul Beach. - Not many other families with young kids which is completely fine, but I guess I had different expectations. - We had no balcony. There are about 30 rooms without. We did ask to change, but was told that they were full and we'd have to check back everyday. The food was good but not great. It would be cool if they made fruit smoothies during the day. Read more

I chose this hotel based only on other reviews on Trip Advisory and Expedia and I am very happy I did. This hotel only has 200 rooms, is in the town of Playa del Carmen and is an all inclusive, they take care of everything. I did not want to stay at a mammoth of resort where I would get a room 6 blocks from the beach and 10 km from the town. Its location is awesome, you would never know you were in town unless you went for a walk to the pier, it is quiet and most of the clientele were quiet making it a very relaxing stay. You cannot hear the noise from town and no one bugs you on the beach. Our view from our room of the beach, ocean and the sunrise were amazing. The service was fantastic, from the top down. In fact David the GM was so helpful and accommodating it made the difference on our trip. My g/f had a digestion issue at some point, not from the hotel but we figure from the street food but when I told David he sent someone to the store for Gatorade and had room service make up a special meal for her and then checked on her throughout the rest of our stay. I must say the food was great for an all inclusive, the Italian restaurant was very upscale and delicious. The rooms were kept very clean. We plan on returning, why would I stay anywhere else? Mycket bra hotell mitt på stranden i Playa Del Carmen. Service på topp, rent och fräscht och nära till 5th avenue i PDC. Rummet var toppen. Finns inget att klaga på. Det enda önskemålet vi skulle kunna ha är att poolen var lite mer anpassad för simning (också). Hotellet rekommenderas varmt!

Vi ankom hotellet etter 25 timers reise, med 2 trøtte og slitne unger. Beklageligvis ble vi møtt av en flåsete fyr i resepsjonen, som åpnet med kommentaren Welcome to Hell. Han viste nok ikke at vi hadde en lang og slitsom reise bak oss da flesteparten av gjestene på hotellet er fra USA-Canada-Sør Amerika. Ved bassenget og på stranden blir man vartet opp, og kan bestille det meste av drikke og i tilleg et utvalg av enkle retter, og snacks. Det er ikke lenge mellom hver gang de passerer, og alltid blide og hyggelige selv etter en laaang arbeidsdag uten pauser. Tips de gjerne med noen USD i ny og ne, samt ved middagstid:) Det er også et hyggelige aktivitets team som drar i gang alt fra fysiske aktiviteter til gjettekonkurranser fra morgen til sent på kveld.
