Let me be clear, I'm neither a picky person nor a snob. But this place was a joke. Only stayed there for one night. The service was fine. Very friendly and helpful front desk. But the place is one and a half steps removed from being a flop house. Found suspicions hairs in my bed. The bathroom was a mess. The chord kept falling out of the phone. There […] was a mess of cheap extension cords for the nightstand that is a total fire hazard. For the price I expected just a little more. Never going to stay there again. Read more
"Not thrilled"
Good Points: Valet service was quick, location was good, priced right for SF. Bad Points: Room was 10' x 10', old and run down, loud music until midnight, the breakfast was a joke. They say, "You get what you pay for". We did.
"A good deal, all in all"
It is an older hotel and shows its age a bit, but the room was cleean and quiet and close to Union Square and other attractions.
"good location for shopping"
very inexpensive and close to shopping
"Is not the luxurious hotel but for the price"
The hotel its pretty old is next to an hostel it's super noisy a outside the rooms are quite small buuuut for the price and location it's marvelous it's 2 blocks away from everything the market the square the metro! Man it's the second time we stay here and it worth it if you're not peeky at all we went a bunch of friends and love it But next time I […] want try some lux Read more

"old but clean"
It is an older building that is a little worn around the edges but mostly well maintained. Small room, large enough bathroom with lots of quick hot water. Large closet as well. They came to fix the signal on our TV twice but it still never worked after fixing. After gently suggesting, They were kind enough to refund our $19 dollar per night parking […] fee for the lack of the TV usage. The hotel is close to friends of ours and Japantown and I would stay again. Lots of homeless and colorful people in the neighborhood. Hilton is a block down the same street. Read more
"great location, disappointing condition"
hotel was in bad condition, not clean, and the person at the front desk was unprofessional.
"Centrally Located"
I was looking for a place near Moscone center and Super8 by far offered the best combination of good rate and great location. The breakfast room is very small and get very busy. The Hotel is 5 mins walk from Union Square and there are loads of places to eat and shop. The room is cleaned everyday but its all a bit of a squeeze and the towels disdnt seemed […] to be properly washed. Read more
"Rough Neigbourhood"
It has been awhile since I was in SF and I stayed around the corner at the MarkTwain last time. Not a very appealing area - many homeless and destitte people. I felt safe enough but being a 260 lb 6'2" biker helps! Staff were friendly and helpful but parking was 2 blocks away. Breakfast was minimalist but good for my diet! Laundry worked and provided […] free soap! Bar across the street was great and internet worked fine! Read more

"number of beds"
I had asked for two beds in a room and was told that I could have a bed plus a pull out couch. I was given a double bed. I was staying with a friend but hadn't planned for us to be in the same bed---two twin beds or the pull out couch would have worked fine. The first room I was given was very small and had just one bed. When I showed the man at the […] desk my reservation he upgraded us to a suite. I had understood that one of us could sleep on the couch in the suite. They gave me extra pillows and blankets, but I still couldn't sleep on the couch because I am tall and it was only about 4 feet long. I ended up sharing the bed with my friend, which turned out OK, but certainly wasn't what I had asked for. Read more
"Not too bad for a Super 8!"
We attended a conference in the Moscone Center. This location was very convenient. For the price - it was great. A friend stayed down the street in a $100+ hotel that was updated, but definitely not worth the extra $$. Yes... "you get what you pay for" but the room was clean (older), the breakfast was fine, the bathroom was clean and spacious. This […] place was just fine if you are on a budget. Read more
"Super 8 Union Square"
This hotel is just a few blocks from the center of Union Square, convenient to restaurants, shopping, the MUNI/BART station, the Trolley, car rental companies and much more. The hotel room was tiny, but clean and the staff was very nice and accomodating. The hotel also provides a valet service for cheaper than any of the parking garages overnight and […] it was convenient to everything! They also provide a basic breakfast that was fresh daily. You get what you pay for, but if you're like me and didn't spend much time there, you don't mind the cramped quarters since its clean! Read more

"Average Hotel"
The hotel is average and you get for what you paid for. The location is great as it's near to the shopping center and other form of transportation. The only negative thing I see is the elevator is old and the heating system need some upgrade. Overall the room was clean.
"Super 8 SF: It's not swank, but it will do"
It's not a luxury place, but it was convenient, clean enough and quite affordable. It is on the border of Union Square (tourist side) and the tenderloin (scary seedy side) and it's best that you ask the attendant downstairs which way is which. A hotel a block away was 4X more expensive, so this place is a relative bargain. I stayed for a week there […] for a conference, and I found it alright. There were some questions about overall cleanliness in terms of perhaps some lack of effort by the cleaning staff, but they changed towels when required and the sheets when I asked. There's a simple breakfast of cereals/minibagels/wholefruit available each morning that was fine, and the location is convenient to public transportation as well as the SF locations of a few car rental companies. On my last day there I was able to walk a block to rent a car, drive it to San Jose and then return it at the Airport. I'd stay here again. Read more

"Cheap, convenient, clean"
Probably the best deal in town. During an overbooked conference week where most hotels had jacked up prices, this Super 8 had rock bottom room rates I couldn't argue with. There's a convenient drugstore downstairs to get all your toiletries etc. I dig it.
"unless you come here only for shopping"
location is perfect. it is right in the downtown of SF. close to shopping center. service is also ok. but the room condition was bad. weird smell in the room, broken window, not quite clean, and the only TV in the room did not work at all. unless you come here only for shopping, or you will not appreciate your stay here
"Great price and location..."
This is an older hotel, so if a little worn look bothers you or if you're fussy about things that don't really matter, skip it. However if you'd rather use your money for good meals or other SF delights and want a basic, clean, quiet (street noise doesn't count-you are downtown!), room with a good bed, good bathroom and excellent staff, then this is […] a great place for you. The location is fantastic, close to SF great mass transit, a short walk to the BART for easy transportation to the airport, etc. Keep in mind the great price and you will have a great stay. Read more
"Super 8 -- SUPERB HOTEL !"
The Super 8 Union Square, San Francisco, is an excellent choice for a stay, either short term or extended, in San Francisco. The hotel is ideally and centrally located, within only a few minutes walking distance to Union Square, SOMA, the Asian Art Museum, various Starbucks coffee shops, Barne's and Noble Booksellers, and much more ! The “age old adage” […] which holds true for prime real estate acquisitions; I.e., “location, location, and location”, also holds true for this hotel: If you are coming to San Francisco and need a hotel to also serve as an ideally centralized base of operations for all of your Bay area excursions , the location of this Super 8 is perfect: BART, tram stops, buses, and cable cars are all within a short walking distance from the hotel. Another huge plus for this hotel is the staff: Kumar and “A.J.”, the front desk managers, are very experienced, knowledgeable of the area, and readily available to accommodate any request. We requested a change from one of the inner rooms to a room with a city and streetside view, and, though the immediate availability of our requested room might otherwise have presented a problem due to the hotel being fully booked, nonetheless, Kumar and “A.J.”, after doing some “juggling” and re-arranging, made it happen ! Now, that's what is known as FIRST CLASS SERVICE ! Finally, the rates are unbelievable -- with other hotels in the area charging two to three times the rate(s) that this Super 8 hotel charges, without having the benefit of both a superb location and first class service from the front desk managers that this hotel has -- our advice is simple: If you see a room advertised as “available” at the Super 8 Union Square San Francisco, GRAB IT FAST ! And, consider yourself lucky, once you have booked your stay. Read more

"Great Location"
Its small and kind of a dive but its clean, cheap and has a great location. Its only a five minute walk to get on a cable car. Our room was next to the street so it was a little loud, but its a busy place and your right down town. Staff was very nice and helpful. If i wanted a cheap room and was in the area again. I would stay there again.
"Not bad for price"
Small old hotel, the bathroom was about the same size as the bedroom. All the furniture was new though. I stayed on the 4th floor on a Friday night, no problems with street noise. Free internet was decently fast. Minimal breakfast. But overall for the price and location it is a great value.

"Good hotel for the $ near the Union Square area"
The Super 8 hotel was a good value for the price. The room was a bit small, but clean. The carpet could use replacement, but otherwise, quite a nice room, with an updated, modern bathroom. Just one minor nit...the bathroom window was big and frosted so light could come through but you couldn't see through it, but wondering if you can see shadows at […] night from the outside. Breakfast (6th floor) was free and decent. Small bagels, OJ, some pre-packaged pastries, fruit, coffee and tea. Since breakfast starts at 7AM, probably best not to have a room near there, because it can be noisy. The hotel is right next to the Hilton, generally a busy area, even at night. A number of homeless people on the streets everywhere in this area, but never felt unsafe. Overall, a good hotel, in a borderline area, and a good value. Read more
"San Fran on a budget"
If you want something a step up from a hostel, this hotel is a value proposition. Just half a block from a major hotel, the street crowd gets a little sketchy but reflects the reality of SF...just keep to the east at night. If you are not used to big cities, maybe you should stay closer to the tourist areas. The breakfast is good enough (other than […] the very weak coffee, which you can make in your room). The street sounds happen, so ask for an interior room. As with any city, you have to do your homework on price...I could have easily paid 1/3 more for my room but had checked multiple sites. Bottom line: at the right price I'll stay here again. Read more
"cheap hotel with perks"
the room had a fridge, blazing fast free wifi, a coffee maker, and is in a very convenient location.
"Received nice Tourist info from reception"
Very close to tourist attractions such as Cable car Powell station. Very helpful personnel in the reception.

"location is good"
good location, clean rooms,, free breafast, small rooms, old tvs but we were not in the rooms except to sleep and get cleaned up to go out again, If you are not looking for something fancy then it is fine.
"LAST MINUTE DEAL!!"
We decided on short notice to go to The City for Thxgvg weekend figuring we could catch the Black Friday sales. This place was our first deal! I travel alot for work, so I have stayed at the nicer hotels. I was a little scared, after reading some of the previous reviews, of what I might walk into, but the staff was super friendly, accomadating (as we […] had multiple rooms and wanted to be near each other), the rooms were clean (although small), they had continental breakfast, and the location is 2 blocks from Union Square. We had no problem with the valet parking, which we were told would take 20 mins from retrival request, but never took more than 10 mins. Anyone who visits San Francisco often knows its just better to use public transportion in the city.... use the car for areas out of the city. We would definately stay here again for our 'on a budget' trips. Read more
good price in SF downtown. But I have to say that they have to be renovated asap!!!

"Amazing bargain"
This hotel is not the Ritz, but it is extremely good value for the money, a short walk from Union Square. It did get noisy outside on weekend nights.
"great location, good service, ok room"
The hotel is old, but clean, it's not the Hilton, but I'd stay again. The location can't be beat.
Personnel very helpful. Unfortunately, I injured my right hand when I grabbed the rail when climbing the stairs. I was a bit impatient waiting for the elevator. I grabbed the rail and hit my ring finger on the bracket that hold the rail to the wall. A bad guest would blame the hotel, but I do not blame the hotel, it was my mistake. JPThomassen

"Not exactly what I expected"
The gentlemen at the front did his best, and he was very good!!! HOWEVER, the room was not ready by check in and had to wait about an hour, the room did not look clean, it was organized but I didnt get the feeling it was clean. NO parking, it was on a Valet Service of which they charged $19 bucks!!! My car did not get parked for 2 hours, I was aprehensive […] of getting a ticket! The location was good, I was staying there for the Nike Womens Marathon, and location was great! Overall, it is simply a place to stay the night and thats it! But I'll be making reservations elsewhere, should I get picked again to run Nikes Women Marathon. Read more
"Super 8 near Union Square, San Francisco"
Excellent value for the price. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room is very well equipped (we like having a coffee maker) and totally clean. The location is excellent (e.g. Foley's Irish Pub just down the street).
"The Super 8 in San Francisco close to Union Square"
Rooms are a bit battered and small, but that is charisteristic of San Francisco Hotels. Continental breakfast was included and the staff did a good job backfilling. The staff was friendly but not overly so. I recommand this hotel to everyone who does not want to spend too much money and does not spend too much time in the hotel. The prices for valid […] parking are relativly low for San Francisco (19 $ per day while I stayed). Read more
The block where the hotel was situated seemed rather seedy, but a couple blocks further down, it was very nice. The hotel was old, but clean and comfortable. It was near where we wanted to be and it was reasonably priced. The TV control was very hard to figure out, but hotel personnel were quick to help out.
"super 8 san francisco"
the location is great but the room are really tiny, especially if you are 4 people in the same room, there is no space to move around or for the suitcases. Good for the price.
