Hotel was old and bed was not comfortable. Heater would not adjust so room was very hot. Could hear the people next door talking, walls were not very insulated. It is in a good location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Cute Old Style Roadside America"
From the first moments, I knew I was in for a treat. Very charming place, looks right out of the 1960s golden age of travel and yet was up-to-date with what we expect from today's hotels. Breakfast was full and either in the Hopi Dining room or the cafe, decorated with super-kitsch native statues and plenty of vintage fixtures. I recommend this to anyone […] who does not want their time in Taos taken up by cookie-cutter hotels and boring chains but wants to see something special. As with any historic structures, there may be signs of age here and there. Again, if you want a plastic boring hotel with everything new but from Home Depot, stay somewhere else. If you want to chat with interesting people, have friendly staff, and take the bottomless coffee looking at Kachina paintings, stay here. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
No daily room cleaning. Hotel staff sleeping on couch. Breakfast began late. It appears to have been a good hotel years ago.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel is looking very old and needs a lot of work. Thermostat doesn't work right. When we arrived the room temperature was 60 degrees. I set the thermostat at 70. We came back 4 hours later and the room temperature was 62. I had to call the front office and they told me I had to set the thermostat all the way up to 90 to get any heat. very dated decor. lounge was closed for unstated reason. hot breakfast was late and limited each day. no coffee in room. heat failed on 2nd night with room temp at 55 degrees. do ya think we'll be back? nope!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"loved the receptionist, but....."
Wouldnt stay there again.receptionist was the best thing about our stay. She was bright, and friendly and very welcoming. rooms were decent size, and adequately clean, but smelled of cleanser and are dark and dreary. I stayed there with my two sons, and for us tv was important at night because we wanted to watch the Olympics, but the tv which had maybe […] 5 viable stations and was made circa 1990 had no sound on NBC which of course was airing the Olympics. If you are in Taos to ski and enjoy some good food and drink in town and just want to crash at the end of the night then this may be a good spot for you because the location is just a couple of blocks from the Plaza and some good eats, but if you want a nice room with wifi, and other nice amenities I would not reccomend Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice but old hotel"
This is a nice hotel with old world character, it is well located near plaza, walking distance in good weather. The hotel is getting long in the tooth and could use major remodel. It's need of remodel is major reason for my lower score. It is clean and the staff were nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Was alright for a quick stay."
The hotel is in need of outside lighting. The whole grounds was very dimly lit. The sky was brighter that the middle of the courtyard. Areas of the grounds need to be de-iced. Room was perfect for a place to stay real quick. Bar was closed inside of hotel. Not just closed...but shut down till futher notice. If you need a place to stay and arent afraid […] of the dark...its perfect. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This place is really neat. The staff are all very welcoming n friendly. Rooms n beds were in great condition even though the lodge is old. It was also a fantastic money-wise. We were very satisfied with it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great place to stay for the price"
Got a room here last minute at a really great price. The room was outdated but very clean and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom door would jam up a bit but not a deal breaker.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I should have requested my money back after the 1st night. When checking in clerk told us room we were checked into had an odor.. So we go check it out and it smelled like moth balls, which wasn’t to horrible, but after being in the room for the night it got worse and was mixed with another weird smell I couldn’t identify, also the towels smelled like […] dirt. So in the morning I requested another room. A different clerk gave me keys to another room. I went to move our stuff and that room was worse than the 1st one. Beds were a mess, beer bottles overflowing in the trash cans and the smell of smoke. Went back to front desk and clerk said it was weird cause no one was checked into that room, but apparenlty they have break-ins is what she said. So here we go to a 3rd room.. was better than the 1st two, but rooms are very outdated, furnature is worn out with holes, carpet old and dirty, walls are paper thin. Would not stay here again! With the price they charge they should update their rooms. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Option to consider"
The staff goes out of the way to make you feel comfortable. The rooms are large enough but not too well updated, (i.e.: worn out carpets) and despite the heating being really good, the appliances were kind of battered and did not look neat (panels detached, rusty), but they did not make noises and that was a good thing. There are lots of native american […] details in the furniture that gives it a very nice atmosphere. It has its appeal, no doubt. I arrived in a extremely cold night and there was no coffee maker or heating device to make a cup of tea, that was a downer. May be it is much better for a Spring-Summer stay? Or that could be included and would solve the problem. The hotel is huge and designed in pavilions. You can park your car right in front of your room. But since I arrived late in the evening in plain winter and there was little light I had to go around until I figured out where my room was (they explained it to me by showing me a map of the buildings but it really got confusing because I could not see the numbers indicating which rooms were in the pavilions). Breakfast is simple but healthy: good choices to choose from. The location is perfect for downtown Taos square and easy to get to the different places near the area, like Angel fire or Taos Mountain. "Needs some updating"
Room was satisfactory considering we were staying in room but out exploring. Room worked for sleeping and a shower. Desperate need of updating as decor was from the 50's. Other hotels in area may be older but at least updated and for similar price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean and good breakfast"
We stayed here two nights during a three day ski trip at Taos and found that it was a great budget option for travelers. Yes, the bathroom needs updating but it, like the rest of the room was very clean. The carpets and bedding looked rather new and the beds were very comfortable. The hot tub area was clean and hot. The breakfast was one of the best […] free hotel breakfasts I've had as they cooked omelets to order. We would definitely stay here again. Also, the lobby and coffee shop areas are beautiful step back in time. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"It works for a quick ski trip"
I've stayed here before a few years ago, and it seems that they have upgraded the bedding. The lady who checked us in was friendly, the rest I tried to coax a smile out of them, but they all seemed less than amused. I had to go to the lobby to use the wireless b/c both my phone signal and wifi signal in the room were very sketchy and I could hardly […] make calls or do email. The breakfast buffet (they used to have cook to order???) wasn't too good (scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy.. no meat)... so we opted to have breakfast at Michaels kitchen just a block down the road the next day. This hotel is in a decent location, and has potential, but the people need to realize that us tourist are a big part of Taos, and by just smiling and greeting the guests, makes a decent stay into a good stay... "A few problems"
Not ready for check in at 5 :00 pm , in need of "a sheet " to get a room. Heating vent exposed, lighting didn't work properly, badly in need of a renovation . Nice art work , and a traditional look helped keep it above a zeroGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Place to Stay in Taos"
Kachina Lodge was a wonderful place to stay for a family ski trip to Taos Ski Valley. It was within walking distance to the Plaza which made it very convenient for prospecting dinner options. The price was very reasonable and even included a cook-to-order breakfast. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There aren't many good options of places to […] stay in Taos, so I would recommend this very highly for you and your family. A warning in winter, the patio area near the pool gets VERY slick with a coating of snow. It is advisable to walk around the side of the building to access the main part of the lodge from the buildings in the back. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good enough for a single man"
I come to Taos for skiing, and this is a good hotel to have a place to sleep. May not be a place for a romantic getaway. The bathroom needs remodeling.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Outdated and average"
Bathroom very outdated. Looks like people live in some of the rooms i.e. Xmas lights up and patio furniture. It's more of a motel then a hotel. Room door access from parking lot not through lobby. People were nice and room was only 60 bucks so got what I paid for I guess.Genuine Expedia guest review
Staff was nice and helpful but place seems on its way downhill. No tissues in bathroom and they said they no longer supplied them. Heaters barely worked.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Needs inexpensive upgrades"
We chose because of rate & location. Upon check in we were greeted by a very friendly & helpful lady. We arrived early & asked to drop off our luggage & she made it happen. 2 women were cleaning the room & seemed nice. However we wish they would've turned on the heat for they new we'd be returning. The hotel has an old heating system & takes a LONG time. Our […] room was so cold we had to sit in our car while waiting for our room to warm. The room (115) was clean & very large. Old TV & NO COFFEE MAKER ! On a bitterly cold morning a cup of coffee is a nice thing to have without walking to the lobby. This seems like a very inexpensive item to offer the guests. The breakfast buffet was great. Good variety & a very nice hostess. Bottom line this is a Motel, not a hotel in my opinion. Without a coffee maker & no microwave to make our our own we will not make it an "automatic" stay when we return to Taos but it will be on our list. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Our stay at Kachina Lodge Resort Hotel"
My wife and I were in town for a couple days, had nver been to Taos before.? The hotel staff was great, the waitress at the morning breakfast/coffee shop, Angel, went out-of-her way to make everyone's day start on the best note possible. She helped us plan of itinerary, and she hit all of the right places to see.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"The desk clerk"
I was kind of upset with the clerk who checked me in. I am 70 years old and she put me on the 2nd floor without asking me. I said that would not do, and she changed me to the first floor. I think she could have been a bit more thoughtful about an older person.Genuine Expedia guest review
This was a really good deal for the price. The hotel is within walking distance of the plaza. The free breakfast, which we ordered from the menu, was great and the wait staff awesome.Genuine Expedia guest review
The tub drained extremely slowly. Most of the ice machines in the establishment were not in operation due to repairs needed. The cleaning girl came and knocked on my door three times one morning, each time forgetting that she had already knocked on my door. Poor service one day at the free breakfast.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Time warp in Taos.."
Kachina Lodge was like ..stepping back in time. The condition of the complex was a bit run down (like an old cruise ship that has seen better days) but you could see that at one time it was 'quite the place'. (probably in the 60's) The bar / lounge was not open during my visit, the coffee shop offered a free breakfast, however, there was only one server […] and they were out of items each morning but it was adequate. (great eggs!) The hotel offered a great location to the Taos Pueblo, walking 'downtown' and for being central. A real highlight was the (free) native dancing in the circle. Great show, great cultural experience for everyone and a good reminder of what part of the country that you are in. I loved it..! My room was dated (cracks in the bathroom tile) and could have felt cleaner (perhaps it was the dated furnishings?) but it served the purpose and I stayed 2 nights to enjoy Taos a bit longer. All in all it was a great visit to Taos. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not well managed"
The bed was comfortable, but the hotel needs sprucing up. We were scheduled for four nights, and the room wasn't cleaned or trash emptied until we complained after three nights. We left after three nights, so it actually ended up costing more than it should have done.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Going downhill. No longer Best Western"
We used to come to Kachina for years. But it has really gone downhill. Now it is no longer a Best Western and I can see why they don't want their name associated with it. The best thing is the location within walking distance to the Plaza. Everything else does not deserve a good rating. The rooms are dated and not very clean. There was black long hair […] in the bathroom and mold in the pealing grout. The shower handle barely turned and were 50 years old. There was a trashbag sitting in the hall all nights and lights were burnt out. The breakfast waitress was annoyingly loud and rude. Dinner in the Hopi used to be good but now the menu is one sheet and the chicken fettucini was so salty my husband didn't eat it. Overall it has gone downhill in all areas. "Years ago beautiful"
This property needs major repair and TLC. We noticed that it no longer is a Best Western Hotel and for good reason. With a lot of monetary investment, this would be a premium destination in TAos, NM. The setting ,architecture , and history say TAOS!! !!! Our room was spacious. The bathtub was peeling several layers of painted texture. The worst I have […] ever seen. Black mildew was evident in joints on the walls of the tub surround. Evidence of crumbs on the floor at the table and chairs area Carpet not cleaned well. Attention to detail was highly lacking for the cost of $90 plus tax for this property and room. Our room number was 105. The full breakfast that was included, was ok. Presentation was poor. Buffet. Nothing on the buffet line looked well. Pans, etc. need replaced or scrubed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
